Panda house chinese and thai restaurant and takeaway in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

We enjoyed a fabulous takeaway at home with friends. The portions are substantia, so we had inadvertantly over-ordered. But we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank goodness! - as we've been searching for good chinese cooking for some time, from exeter to plymouth, and this is head & shoulders above the others. We ordered a variety, including Duck with pancakes, singapore vermicelli, sweet and sour pork and king prawn, sambal chicken , chicken chow mein and a few sides. Everything was spot on and though many dishes were fried; they were not "heavy" or greasy. (only minor glitch were the pancake rolls were a little too thin.) Overall, a really first-class meal was enjoyed by all. The web site is a little cumbersome but you can order more/less spicy; or no pork/meat or whatever, so tailor-made to your taste. We only wish they would offer this quality of food in a warm cosy and welcoming restaurant; but it appeared to be as bleak as when we last ate in. A shame as the kitchen is evidently good.

Went here with my 2 boys for our evening meal. Had take away here before but never eaten inside. Food was delicious as always. Good portion sizes, friendly staff. Definitely go back again. Slightly more than what you would pay to have it as a take away but definitely worth the money.

Having heard the place was a bit cold and quiet, I was on the fence whether to go…but so glad we did!! It was a tiny bit chilli (it’s a basement type place so understandable) so I wore a jumper! Simples :-) The food was ACE and so reasonably priced. Everything was super clean and the staff were so attentive. We are 100% going back and so glad we found this gem! I hope more people use the eat in restaurant as it would give it a great buzz…we were really satisfied with our evening there, despite being almost the only ones there :-). The take away service was non-stop, so we felt glad people are using the place at least! Fab!

I rated this takeaway as the best in lanson once. But no longer. Spent £23 like normal, and didn't even get a free bag of prawn crackers this time, seems to be always a hit and miss whether you get a bag or you don't. The food was so Bland and tasteless , I ordered the house special fried rice and the hot and spicy version for extra money, but it was so plain as was the chicken chow mein hot and spicy version extra money again very Bland and tasteless. Had delivery as soon as they open so they couldn't have said they were ran off their feet. Won't be ordering from this rubbish again, I'd rather cook myself. cook the food properly and give people what they've ordered and want

For the 2nd time the driver cant find me This time i explained exactly where i am and they didn't tell the driver so not his fault . He phoned and delivered it nicely. But last time this happened the food was cold by the time i went out to find the driver. I explained this when ordering and they didn't tell the driver.

Had a lovely Chinese takeaway, great choices and prices are fairly reasonable for a Chinese takeaway. Decent portion sizes! The wait can be a bit long if you don't order in advance but it's worth it, mostly cash only but there are ways to pay with a card if you don't do cash. The seats in the bar area are plenty and you can get a drink while you wait!

Myself wife and 2 children visited the panda house to try there eat all you can buffet. The buffet is £24.95 each for adults. My children would never eat that amount of food all they want is some rice and noodles so my wife and I wanted the buffet and I asked if the children could just order off the normal menu. We were told they can't do that we would all have to have the buffet which would of cost £100 plus drinks. We decided to leave and go for a curry I can't believe they would rather loose paying customers than be flexible no wonder we were the only ones in the restaurant. I am a regular takeaway customer and have visited the restaurant before on many occasions. Unfortunately now I will not be using ever again for takeaways out of principel.

Nice friendly welcome, great food, very reasonably priced food and drink, great service, a little quiet but it was early evening. Not been for a while but will be coming back soon.

Delivery, Food arrived ahead of stated time, driver polite and courteous, food was gorgeous from the starters to the main dishes, many thx Panda Hse.

We had reserved a table for 5 for a Friday evening, but had to cancel due to a family health emergency. In the event our cancellation was received without fuss and our revised delivery order was readily taken onboard. Arriving at our North Petherwin home in good time, the meal for 4 dishes were beautifully prepared, generous in proportion, and great value for money. A big thank you to Panda House.

I didn't like all the dishes. The duck in plum sauce was tasteless. But the TomYam soup and dumplings were absolutely delicious! 👍

There was nothing really wrong with the food here, it just wasn't for me. I ordered online for delivery and it was really fast delivery. I've ordered from Panda House twice now and and the style of food is not my type. I gave it a second try in case the first order was just my "bad ordering". All of the meat comes in a light batter and covered in incredibly sweet sauces. I ordered duck last night and it came battered. For me, as duck is greasy anyway and the skin needs to be crispy, coating it in batter is a mistake. The insanely sweet sauces are too much for me as well. I ordered spicy dishes and the sweetness took over the chili resulting in no spiciness at all. The noodles were well cooked, not soggy at all and the best part of what I ordered. Having tried twice now I will not be ordering from here again. As I said, this is down to my personal tastes. Looking at the 4.4 star reviews, there are a lot of people who enjoyed Panda House, just not for me. Edit after owner response: Thank you for taking the time to respond. Perhaps I'll give you another go and pop in and have a chat this time. Good luck for the future! Hope to see you trading for many years to come.

Great Spot, Good Food, Portions Bit To Small To Share But The Hot&Sour Soup One Of The Greatest Ever Tasted!!

Booked on line the day before for 8 people at 6.30, for a family farewell party. Arrived at 6.30 to an empty restaurant and no record of the booking at all. Menus were brought but, sitting at a round table in an empty restaurant with no atmosphere at all, we all decided to cut our losses and went to the White Horse instead, which was great! We won't be going again.

Lovely take away meal , best we've had in the west country for a while.

The restaurant is a cold, uninviting, stark cellar. Brightly lit, unlaid tables giving the feeling of despair. Friday night at 7.30pm it had one table of 3 and a table of 8/10. They couldn't find our booking so we stood in the middle of the restaurant whilst 3 young girls ran around like headless chickens. The big table eventually got their food but the order was wrong. Panic. We sat at a blank table and waited, waited and waited. Our menus were brought and whoosh she was gone. Eventually a waitress asked us if we were ready to order, well YES !!!!! we wouldn't mind a drink since we've been here 1/2 hr. Drinks and first course arrived 8.15pm, yummy. Finished and sat.. dirty plates taken away, we waited and waited and waited. I waved my glass and smiled at the waitress who was yacking in the bar. She came over and noticed our cold empty plates. "No food ?" Well NO.. Whoosh and cluck she was gone......we got the giggles. Eventually our food came out at gone 9pm, ate it. Sat with dirty plates until 10pm, my friend went and got the Bill. It was steep. She asked for a discount as we had been there since 7.30pm and she said it was past 10pm and they were Closed and the Manager had gone home. My friend stuck it out and eventually we got 10% back. This is the 2nd time this "restaurant" has changed hands as a Chinese restaurant and its dire. We live locally and out of the 4 Chinese we have in Town this is the only sit-down. It should be bustling and busy. Its horrid. Never again.

This is one of the best Chinese meals I have had for many years outside of London! Lovely food and great staff can’t wait to go again. No where comes close to it in Launceston. I used to like the Golden bowl for take away before it closed which was very good. The other one close by only had a score of 1 on the health and clean ratings so I would not go near it!!!

First time we have visited this place and I have to say the food is amazing, flavoursome and nice size portions.

Really bad quality, bottom of the barrel food. Chicken chow mein was watery and inedible and filled with bamboo. Meat used was cheapo water filled chicken from Iceland that you quite literally wouldn’t feed to your dog. Just really gross. Anyone giving this place more than one star has never had an actual proper Chinese from an inner city Chinese house. Threw the whole thing away. Also they don’t offer complimentary prawn crackers.

Everything was unbelievably sweet

Decided to have a Chinese meal rather than the planned pub grub and this Chinese restaurant was the only one listed for Launceston and it had excellent reviews. Saturday night and around 8.30pm and the basement restaurant only had a couple of tables in use. The service was prompt and the quality and quantity of food was excellent. The hostess asked how we’d enjoyed the food and which dishes we’d enjoyed the most. She took on a couple of suggestions we made (some vegetables with the Cantonese sweet & sour pork) but the dishes were very good as they were served. Definitely a place to visit again when we are visiting family in the area again

Best Chinese around and nice to be able to eat in not just takeaway

This is my first time in coming here with a group of friends, the food was absolutely fantastic and the service was exemplary! I would definitely recommend this place if you just would like to grab a quick takeaway or sit in at the restaurant either way you will not be disappointed!

We took a chance based on the good reviews as our usual takeaway in Tavistock had let us down a couple of times. Thankfully we live in Chillaton so getting to Launceston just as easy. We ordered Crab & Sweetcorn Soup, Satay Tofu and Kung Po King Prawns: all were delicious. The sauces are so fresh and the prawns cooked perfectly. It also travelled well as a 15min drive home. This is honestly the best Chinese food I have ever tasted.

Nice restaurant, not very warm, and they only take cash, so be prepared. There seemed to be very few staff, one of whom was polite but maybe new and a bit vague. We had to ask for our order to be taken, but once it was, the food came quickly and was hot and tasty. The menu is extensive and includes Thai dishes, but all dishes are over £10 each and depending on what you order, some are way bigger than others. Overall, it was nice and I may try it again.

Recently moved to Launceston area and decided to try a local take away on spur of the moment - Panda House has an easy to use and navigate website, card payment online (or cash on collection). Food was tasty and reasonably priced. Will be ordering again soon.

On a whim my wife and I had a takeaway from the Panda House one weekday evening. Not expecting a great meal I ordered a banquet for two on the basis there would be enough to eat even if some dishes weren’t great. As it turned out, the food was about as good a Chinese takeaway as we have ever had. My wife rates the pancake rolls as eight out of ten. They looked a tad greasy to me but full of meat and veg and tasted delicious. Sweet and sour pork was tender and tasty and the pinnacle was the beef in black bean sauce. It was lean, perfectly cooked and in a gorgeously rich sauce. The fried rice had tender prawns and little bits of meat and veg. It tasted much better than it looked (a bit dark). When I collected our meal the restaurant was almost empty and felt cold and impersonal. This being the quality of food they turn out, that surprises me. It’s now our go to Chinese restaurant.

The food in here is absolutely delicious. The mango chicken is absolutely mouthwatering. Everything we ordered was extremely tasty, great portion sizes and the staff are very friendly. If you are looking for any takeaway or restaurant, just go here. I know I will be.

My partner and mother in law just picked up take away from here and it is just plain awful and completely inedible 🤮 not to mention the (what this place passes for) “Crispy chilli beef” was not even cooked through. I’m sorry but I’d be fuming with what we have been given even if we were paid to eat it. Don’t know if management has changed, as we chose the place based on the reviews, but I can’t imagine serving this to anyone.

On a miserable Sunday evening in May, we didn’t have high expectations of this restaurant , however we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food . Ambiance is as many post covid restaurants, a little basic . I would recommend this restaurant and more particularly the quality of the food which was both delicious and authentic. The staff were also knowledgeable of the menu.

Oh Dear! Each reincarnation of this place seems worse than its predecessor. We liked the food quality of the eccentric Red Lantern, the prices of the Red Panda; but nothing about this, (except the pleasant waitress). We appreciate it is set in an underground, windowless cellar; however no effort has been made to make the place welcoming. No tables are covered, the white walls are stark and only highlight the darkness of the otherwise attractive rubble walls. (why do people always think white is best for dark places? - a softer, richer more complementary coloured wall would highlight, rather than fight with the rubble columns). It all felt like an underfunded school hall. they could easily dim the lights a little, adding a more cosy feel; and maybe play a little light chinese? background music, to temper the stark atmosphere - if only to drown out the sound of chattering teeth! But the main thing would be turn the heating on! It was freezing in there. The service , whilst very friendly and pleasant was slow. Perhaps the kitchen was overloaded with takeaways? After a while, our plates arrived, tepid but better than cold we thought. However the food didn't follow soon after, so indeed the plates had joined everything else in being cold by the time food finally materialised. It wasn't worth the wait (nor the hypothermia! ) - devoid of any freshness; it was impossible to detect any of the spices or barely the main ingedients. everything arrived (luke warm of course) and covered in sweet sauces. It was hard to detect the chicken or prawn. The crispy chill prawn dish, was devoid of both crispiness and chilli! And as the red "sauce" began to congeal it became rather unpleasant. At the outset, we were concerned at the initial look of the website, which looks like a hastily prepared scammer's one; then we saw the entrance still had the old "cash only'sign on the door, when they now take cards. All signs of sloppiness and inattention to detail. (or not caring). The whole feel is of a temporary "pop-op" place, that's simply bashing out some spare stock before moving on. Sadly an awful experience.

We went in last night for a takeaway firstly the food was amazing but the girl behind the counter was very abrupt threw our change on the counter no please or thank you was going to go for a sit down meal soon but not if this is the service

We are staying in devon for a week. We travelled to this Chinese from our lodge. When we arrived outside it does look like just takeaway but when you get downstairs it's lovely inside. I'm surprised more people don't eat in there as its spotlessly clean and so much spaces. Food was very fast to come to us. Staff were friendly and the food was probably the best Chinese we have ever had! Only thing they could do with is hot burners to place the plates on to keep them warm as they went cold quickly

Great food, good prices, good selection and the first time we ate there they guessed exactly the number of fortune cookies we needed without our input. Very good place and I would recommend it to anyone who is seeking good Chinese food.

Very impressed. Takeaway was busy so they phoned and communicated which is brilliant. Food arrived really warm, tasted amazing. Portion sizes brilliant as well. Anyone wandering which Chinese to go for in Launcestone definitely choose Panda House, can't fault it at all.

Fresh and delicious food served in this hidden gem. Looks like takeaway only from outside, but the restaurant is downstairs. It was practically empty on a Friday night, which is such a shame. The staff are lovely, and every course came out piping hot and fresh. We had Tom yum & Crab and sweet corn soup. Delicious. Followed by crispy duck, which was excellent, prawn dumplings my favourite. Mains were Honeyed crispy king prawn with rice, and Singapore vermicelli, which were both delicious and fresh. Not often we eat out and find every course is spot on. Well done. We’ll be seeing you again very soon.

Food was tasty but not very hot

Quirky cellar restaurant, whose historic setting is atmospheric and interesting. Friendly serving staff and lovely food. Great variety on the menu, which gives you the choice of Chinese and Thai dishes. Also a nice drop of Italian lager on draught.

Lovely meal in the quirky downstairs restaurant. The only small downside was the draft beer did not taste great. Portions sizes were good. Chilli chips were tasty and the bean curd curry was good. Would visit again. Reasonably priced. Bill approx £50 for two, which include starters mains and a drink.

Food very good. Staff polite friendly and attentive. Decor of the restaurant good do with an overhaul. If I'm in the area again, I'd certainly come back.

Amazing Chinese takeaway tonight! The chicken balls and pancake rolls are the best I've ever had in my life! No exaggeration! The pork chow mein had big pieces of pork and lots of them, best Chinese ever, won't go anywhere else. :)

Firstly makesure you are aware of restaurant is down stairs, thought ideal night out as visiting area, nice lady at desk, however lady serving english not good and try explaining food allergy, ended up 2 people being sick in toilets.. Expensive for poor quality mains

Thanks to all the staff we had a fab evening 03.10.20. Very very good Covid screening felt very safe. Service absolutely brilliant. Food good but too much ended up bringing some home but glad to have a decent restaurant in town at last. Hats of to you guys you have got it just right. Staff where awesome....the food is definitely not, think the Red Thia curry came from a can, we all had a prawn cocktail starter which they must of just reused the satay container as it tasted like a mix of the two! Even the Draght larger was soo murky and awful! Pity!
