I never leave bad reviews but feel compelled to. Myself and two friends turned up after a gig at battersea arts centre and we did ask if they could accommodate us since we had no booking. We were given a table (since the restaurant was only half full). We sat there and decided we wanted snacks and a light meal. As we started to order mainly starters, the elderly waiter told us we were wasting his time as there is a minimum £10 per head charge. If he had let us complete our order then he would have realised that it would have exceeded that amount but he told us to leave. If anything, had the bill come to less than that amount (highly unlikely) then we could have been warned that we’d be charged £10 per head but be served regardless. We would have understood and were willing to pay. We felt a little insulted and left. It doesn’t look like they want any business since they’d rather have empty tables and make no money than charge the minimum per person. After looking at some other reviews, I am glad we didn’t eat there; from ants on plates, stains on chairs that waiters are unwilling to clean, verbally abusing their patrons and screws found in takeaways this place should be shut down.. Silver linings hey?

It was the worst Indian restaurant that I have ever been in. The order came up incorrect on several items the Bombay potato made from chips. Narm bread coconut when plain ordered soggy and not cooked inside. At the end of the night felt a severe stumach upset left me being sick at home. I paid the bill in full felt too ill to argue. Would never go there again and as put me of Indian food in the short term.

Came in here on a Friday night quite late, just as they were about to close. Could have easily said it was too late and turned us away but they were friendly and welcoming! Very much appreciated them staying open for us. Food was brilliant - mixed started and lamb rogan josh. Fresh taste and also the lamb was very tender, higher quality than a usual curry house meat. Reasonably priced too. Would recommend.

Had a great evening in Clapham Junction bars but hadn’t eaten so a friend recommended this place. My wife and I arrived at 10pm and we were greeted by a friendly welcoming waiter. The service was relaxed and very professional throughout the meal. We ordered chicken tikka bhuna, lamb rogan josh, onion bhajis, peshwari naan and a plain naan. The two currys were full of flavour and the lamb and chicken was the most tender I’ve had in a curry for years. The naan breads were incredibly fresh too. After the meal we were given scented towels and quartered oranges as a palette cleanser. Once we’d paid the bill we were then given a baileys type shot and an after eight mint....really nice small touches that make a difference. Overall I would highly recommend this restaurant for its relaxed and friendly environment and it’s truly delicious food. Top marks!!!!

Dropped in here for a late, impromptu dinner after meeting some friends for a few drinks after work. Decor and setting modern and nice. Service fine. Good average and portions a little small given the prices were standard Indian restaurant prices (I.e. not specially cheap): my curry which looked and tasted exactly the same as my friend's who had ordered something different, must have had 3, Max 4, small bits of chicken floating around in all the sauce, onion and tomato

My friends and I went here to get some food to go after we saw the sign 10% discount for take away. We have been nicely welcomed from the staff and sat down while we were choosing what to get. After we ordered, the waiter came with the bill and we found out there was no discount ) we asked to pay separately ) We ve been told discount was applicable only for +10£ after he TOOK my friend’s the card and being very rude “ I’m telling you now about the discount”. He was about to take the payment but my friend asked him again. He was extremely rude so my friend decided to cancel the order. The waiter literally told us off, telling us get out of there after I was just wondering if I was able to get mine as I was very hungry. I’ve never seen anybody treating customers this way, so rude and unwelcoming with us only because the sign they got is wrong and not clear. We decide how to spend our money but we’ve never been so disrespectful as this gentleman. I wish I could have said something about the food.

I hadn't been here for years, but remembered it as good as I was passing, so decided to give it a shot. So glad I did - they didn't have my favourite, butter chicken, on the menu, but the chicken Korma satisfied my sweet tooth, as did the peshwari naan. Seeing egg fried rice on the menu, I ordered it out of curiosity.. it turned out to be egg fried pilau rice, which is a bit odd! Still, all delicious, and I was stuffed. A nice touch- with your bill, everyone gets an After Eight and a segmented orange, and the adults a little glass of Bailey's! Delighted to see they're as good as I remember.

I was out for a couple of beers with someone who is not a great fan of Chinese and I am not a great fan of "upmarket" Indian restaurants. For me "upmarket" means make a Chicken Madras and then say it was discovered by your roving chef in the foothills of the Himalayas and similar things happen to rice dishes (oh yeah and then double the price). So we looked for a good simple Indian (Bangladeshi) restaurant on Google and up popped the Panahar. It was very quiet for a Tuesday night but the food was excellent. It was nice to have a decent no frills curry and I can't recommend it too highly.

This was a reunion evening - three mates who have barely seen each other for six years. We were looking for a curry house that did great food, somewhere where we could catch up without having to shout to be heard (either over loud muzac or lively diners), and where the food and service would complement the evening rather than distract. The Panahar scores highly on all counts. The food was very good. I can especially recommend the chicken chat puree starter, the chicken dhansak and mushroom pilau. The soufflet presentation of the puree was very impressive, the dhansak was rich and sweet and slightly sharp, and the pilau had proper chunks of mushroom. It was all very tasty. The service was excellent. We were served with good grace, very good humour, speed and politeness. Requests for additions - including for additional fiery lime and chillie pickles were dealt with without any fuss, in fact quite the opposite; there was a clear desire to add excellent service - attentive yet simultaneously unobtrusive. All of this properly added to our evening. We needed a calm space, within which we would be the centre of attention so that we could take time to re-cement our friendship. And great food, tasty, and promptly served. And for such an evening it turns out that the Panahar was just perfect.

Standard range of non-authentic dishes that have "graced" the UK's high streets for decades. Most dishes come served in bucket loads of heavy gravy. The spices completely lack subtlety and depth. The prawns and chicken are plainly low quality. The breads are OK, I suppose.Anyone who says this food is authentic just hasn't had the real thing, nor anything close. As bad a curry as I have had.

Four of us went to this restaurant at about 9pm this evening. We sat down and looked at the menu. 15 minutes passed and we had been offered no drinks or popadoms. We asked the waiter 3 times if we could order drinks no he appeared to acknowledge us but then carried on serving others. Eventually we were given popadoms with no dips and no drinks order taken!! Again we asked to order drinks and he said there were none left of what we wanted (ginger beers) and he went away again! Still no drinks!!! After about 25 mins of being in the restaurant with no drinks and dry popadoms we got up and left. The waiter nor the barman batted an eyelid. I seriously don't think they even noticed we had left. This is possibly the most horrendous service I have ever experienced. I will never go back and shall make sure none of my friends do either. Shocking.

Drinks were OK, even if the cider was out of a can.My main course, Chicken Madras, was hugely disappointing. Not only was it very mild but it was barely at eating temperature. To be fair, the others in my party enjoyed their food. I would give it another chance but they would seriously have to up their game.

A regular at Panahar for years, I don't think I've ever been disappointed here. My girlfriend and I popped in on A Friday night at 7pm, having booked at 6pm and the restaurant was buzzing as usual. I had a lamb shank which was beautifully soft and tender in a nice and creamy sauce. The lamb was excellently cooked, and to me was perfect although some might find it too rare for their liking. My girlfriend had a korma and said it was as good as usual. We also had Bombay potatoes, a naan bread and four onion bhaji's. The meal was accompanied by a perfectly pleasant bottle of Pinot grigio. The service was excellent, prompt and friendly. My only criticism is that after years of success and 'wear and tare' - I'd say that the restaurant is starting to show it's age ever so slightly in one or two areas, such as the toilets and the exterior of the building.

Visited the restaurant as it is close to work and having checked recent reviews it sounded great. Ordered drinks whilst I waited for my wife and noticed that nearby customers were complaining quietly about ants on the plate that the dips for the popadoms were brought on…. I didnt hear an apology from the waiter but he did bring a new plate for the customers who continued to eat. I sat there and finished my drink and decided that I wasnt risking it…yeah I know it was ants and it can happen but nah not for me…….the drink - a pint of flat coke was also expensive. So cannot comment on the food - I will let others review.Sorry Panahar.

Service slow and laboured, food can only be described as average at best. However, when I returned the bill that did not include the booked 30% off and had in bold letters SERVICE NOT INCLUDED it returned much later with service NOW INCLUDED and only £6 less than the original bill of £45, that doesnt look like 30% off to me. When questioned I was told that they ALWAYS include service for those booking through TT (not what the offer says), when asked to take off service (if it could be called that) they actually refused and when I said I will be writing a less than favourable review told to "go ahead and do it". Hmm, POOR SERVICE, SO SO FOOD, NOT HONOURING THEIR OFFER, BAD ATTITUDE and now RUDENESS, I will be taking this up with TT, AVOID!

After an average meal at Panahar last night, the dishonest staff tried to rip us off. It was quite late and I think they assumed we were drunk and wouldn't notice. Our bill was £44, we asked him to split it between our two cards. My friend paid first, when he gave the card machine to me I noticed that the amount was £25 - not half of £44. I was looking for an Indian restaurant close to Clapham Junction for a group booking. Restaurants close to major railway stations can often be lacking, and so I was pleasantly surprised that the Panahar's ambience and food were fine - nothing amazing, but not bad. What let them down, however, was the poor quality of service. Even though the only other people in the restaurant was one couple, it took an age to take the order. One waiter even walked away in the midst of my friend ordering her drink! So on balance, I wouldn't recommend the restaurant unless they seriously improve the customer service but if you are stuck for location and really want Indian food then it's okay.

We went to this restaurant very late in the evening after our train was delayed into clapham junction (it was the only place open) and unfortunately we had the most horrific experience. We left the restaurant after a nice meal but I instantly realised that I had left my iphone4 on the table - we went straight back within minutes - the lights were off and they had locked up but the owner let us in to look! The phone was gone. We looked in our bags but it was not there! We rang it knowing that it was on loud and nothing. One of the staff had gone upstairs so the owner called him but he said he hadn't seen it! This went on for an hour, the staff denied seeing it but we were the only customers in the restaurant so we knew it had to be somewhere - we called the police as one of the staff seemed very guilty. After lots of denying from the staff the phone mirackersly turned up on the floor of the toilets! Although the owner apologised for his dishonest staff be VERY wary of this place!!!!!

"I recently ordered from here and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The packaging was secure and eco-friendly, keeping the food warm and fresh upon arrival. I tried the Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Rogan Josh, Garlic Naan, and Vegetable Biryani. The Chicken Tikka Masala was rich and creamy, with perfectly tender chicken pieces that absorbed the flavorful tomato-based sauce. The Lamb Rogan Josh had a deep, aromatic flavor with succulent lamb that fell apart effortlessly. The Garlic Naan was soft, with just the right amount of char and garlic flavor, perfect for scooping up the sauces. The Vegetable Biryani was a fragrant blend of spices, with each grain of rice separate and full of flavor, offering a great balance of vegetables. What stood out the most was the authenticity of the flavors and the quality of the ingredients. It's clear that great care goes into preparing each dish, making it a standout choice for Indian takeaway. Whether you're a fan of spicy curries or milder dishes has something to offer everyone. I highly recommend it for anyone craving delicious, authentic Indian cuisine at home.
