Panahar in Bath and North East Somerset

What a fantastic first time visit. Great food very authentic, it arrived in very quick time-hot and full of flavour. The staff were very friendly and took time to talk and explain the menu. Rishy thank you for your service and conversation, as promised we will be back next time we are in Bath. The idea of bring your own booze although not new compliments the experience. Thanks guys.

Sadly the food was not great at all. Our starters were awful and our main Garlic Chilli Chicken came out with loads of coconut??!? 2.95 per chapati is a rip off (I pay less in central London). Rice was underwhelming and a tiny portion. Vindaloo chicken was nice but that was about it. Only saviour was BYOB. Won’t be back. Gone downhill

Chicken tikka masala was chicken with onions and all other dishes were tasteless I do not understand the high ratings. I can't really add anything more to make up the one hundred words except to say ours was a take out on a Sunday night and possibly...to give benefit of doubt..they were very busy and maybe we got a bad draw.

Very much food!! Great service and food my sister did not like her meal as it was spicy and they remade it no questions asked loved my meal and they are very nice here. Very busy but had a seat for us. Would recommend!!! You can bring you own drink as well. It was about £12 a head!!

Real good food and great service

We came to Bath to go to the races. We were staying at the holiday inn express so needed a good place to eat. We were not disappointed in our choice. After research on tripadvisor we chose Panahar. We read that you needed to take your own drinks, which was great. The service was excellent. We had Poppadums and chutney on arrival. For starter we chose meat kebab. For mains we had chicken madras, chicken jalfrezi, pilau rice and peshwari naan. It was excellent! Highly recommended. The hospitality was of the highest standard. We were welcomed and treated so well. We had a lovely chat with both waiters. They were so friendly! Telling us about Eid. May this Eid bring peace, happiness, and prosperity to your home. Eid Mubarak to you and your loved ones. And we hope you enjoy your Secret Eid Haram. Just one thing to add. It is a cash only restaurant but it is not a problem as there is a cash machine just down the road. Thank you to you all and all best wishes for Eid.

Have used the Panahar for a long time now but have to say that the curry we have just had was the best we have had. Excellent meal and excellent value.

We were staying in a bed and breakfast a little south of the city centre, and we decided to eat out at the nearby suburban restaurant, a short walk away, rather than head for a city centre venue. And we were pleased we did this, as Panahar is just the unpretentious establishment we were hoping for and the dishes we chose were delicious and good value. Don’t forget to bring your own drinks – there is a Sainsbury’s local just a few metres away.

Visiting Bath for the weekend, we decided we fancy an Indian. Was looking for a Traditional Curry house not a fancy restaurant. We decided to walk from outside the centre to Panahar which took about 25 minutes . Arriving at the small Traditional Indian did not disappoint , we were welcomed my the manager who Originated from Birmingham like myself so I knew we would get great food . The chicken balti wad fantastic and the chicken tandoori was also very good .If you want great food and a very friendly atmosphere i would definitely recommend Panahar .Will definitely return next time in Bath .

We came to Bath specifically to go to Panahar as we used to love it as students. Delicious curry and amazing service. Food came within 15 minutes of ordering. We will absolutely return soon.

Very impressed with this place. Small but authentic and family run. Spoke to Faheem before booking and service was great, this continued when we arrived. Very busy and full of locals, Welcomed by Ris and really made us comfortable within the first few minutes. Food was good, fresh fluffy naan were amazing (probably the best cheese naan we’ve had). Faheem then went out of his way to make us masala fries- not on the menu but really appreciated. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would definitely come again.

A rushed need for food - this was the closest venue. We had a warm welcoming and some excellent dinner. The madras into hot! I will return soon.

Literally just a container of sugar soup, I’m so confused as to whether this is the normal flavour because it’s not from where I’m from.

Honestly love supporting a small business, but will absolutely never return after my experience tonight. We were a large group, but as someone who’s worked in the hospitality industry, we were polite and respectful to staff for the entire meal- I would be the first to say something if anyone was anything but. However, my friend asked for a little extra hot sauce as his curry was a bit mild for his expectations. They have him a large glass of hot sauce. We all thought this was amusing until he was charged £6 for it, which he, very politely queried. When they said that was the price, he tried to leave it, when the waiter responded ‘don’t turn your back on me’, and then later tried to take him outside for a fight when he’d tried to to diffuse the situation. That was the worst customer service I’ve had in years for mediocre food. Go into town if you want a better experience.

Waiter tried to square up with me because I complained that the hotsauce was too expensive. He said " let's take this outside". Horrible, never experience worse service.

Would normally really enjoy my experience at panahar, but feel the need to write a review tonight after a member of my group was verbally abused and asked “come outside then” - insinuating a fight - following a very reasonable complaint raised about an items price. Our group and even the other staff there tried to calm this individual down, but to no effect. We left being insulted by this staff member while being told it’s okay by another. I understand we were a big group that can be difficult, but after years of coming here I will no longer returning to what I thought was an honest venue. There are plenty of nicer places in town centre. Shocking…

Cibo buonissimo e saporito. Cucina semplice, ma non manca nulla per una cena perfetta. Bevande alcoliche non vendute, ma si possono portare quelle acquistate nel vicino supermarket (50 mt.). Molto consigliato. Manager molto gentile e professionale.

The Panahar has delicious food and they are such life savers!! I had a table for 35 booked at another restaurant in Bath on July 31st, after an event we were having in Southgate, and they cancelled the reservation 48 hours before due to kitchen issues. With a party that size, it was night on impossible to find another venue in time to accommodate a party that size. We were able to book a room for dining at the venue, but had to supply our own food. The Panahar was happy to not only accommodate our very last minute order for 30+ people at a very reasonable price, but they delivered it to our venue piping hot and ready to serve right on time!! The food was absolutely delicious as always, and everyone was extremely satisfied with both the quantity and quality of the food. The Panahar saved the day with their delicious food and superb customer service, and I cannot recommend them highly enough!

Really delicious food at this BYO Indian restaurant. Only complaint was the rushed service… they were clearing away dishes while some of of my party were still eating which is just rude. Also showed us the dessert menu while I was still eating my main course.

Amazing Indian restaurant. No nonsense, no frills - just exceptional food at good prices provided by super friendly and helpful staff. Yeah, there are fancier restaurants that are licensed to sell alcohol, but I challenge to find a better curry for the same money. This was one of the best I have had and the option to bring my own booze, which can be consumed without a corkage fee, will probably see me back there very soon. I select restaurants on the strength of their reviews. It is only fair that I give you the chance to do the same and hope you give the Panahar a shot. I will be amazed if you regret your decision.

My favourite Indian restaurant in Bath.

Working away and came across this restaurant, starters Onion bhaji and Chicken Tikka were both nice, then mains Chicken Pathia and Chicken Dhansak were both really nice, chilli naan and mushroom rice. would recommend and return again. Need to take own drinks.

Panahar is always great, love the fact they're so friendly and happy to accommodate whatever food you fancy. Tried the biryani this time, daughter asked for Chan's saag but with paneer, very happy to make that for her. Great local curry house.

Myself and 7 others came to Panahar to celebrate Christmas. The mains came quickly and the food was nice. However clearly they had double booked over the festive period, as 36 minutes after our booking started we were asked to leave as they had another booking coming. There was still food on the table and this made us feel most unwelcome. When we asked to extend they became hostile and aggressive. Won’t be coming here again.

When you eat here they will offer you popadoms and an array of sauces when you sit down. Please note this is not complimentary and they will charge you £5:40 for the dips and £1 per popadom. Food was great but this really put us off the place.

Staying in Bath, looking for an Indian takeaway, read some good reviews and decided on this. Didn’t disappoint, great quality and really nice staff. Highly recommended.

Absolutely fantastic! Family business with a very warm friendly team, all from the same family. Ideally located on Moorland Rd, it's been in business since 2000 so well established and clearly very popular. They do dine in as well as take away (uh oh) and have fantastic food as well as service. Our waiter took the time to recommend the dishes based on our individual preferences and dietary restrictions listing all the ingredients and his suggestions were spot on. Food was quick to come out and in great portion sizes. They don't have any alcohol but they do allow BYOB and corkage is free. A warning for wheelchair users - small step up to the toilets. Otherwise a total win, highly recommended!

Ordered take-away for 12 people from here. The people running it were so lovely and could not have done more to help me. The food was really good. Definitely our go to place for Indian food.

It was my first time using Panahar. I phoned up to place my order of a Lamb Rogan Josh extra hot (Phaal) with extra green chillies in it, a pilau rice and a peshwari nan. A man took my order and at the end I was told the dish would be beef not lamb. I turned up to collect it and was charged £16.80 (not cheap) but noticed their menu prices should add up to £15.20. I queried it and was told it was for making it Vindaloo hot with the extra chillies. It tasted ok but not like any Rogan Josh I've had (and I've had many) plus it wasn't extra hot either - so, no Rogan, no lamb, no heat. A genuine disappointment and not so reasonably priced either. It was my first visit and it will be my last also.

The staff are always very friendly always greeting with a smile and a hand shake. The food is always bang on . I have never had a bad meal from hear in all they years I have been coming . And if they say it will be ready in 15 minutes it will be !!!!

Good Indian Restaurant. Coconut rice was too sweet with chicken tikka masala. Prices rising at the moment due to the rise of cost of living (I saw 3 different prices for 1 dish from 2021 to 2022) but this happens EVERYWHERE.

Poor food, even worse service. Wouldn't let us pay by card and sent us to the cash machine which wasn't working. Then asked us to recycle our own wine bottles. Wouldn't recommend

Super authentic delicious food & great atmosphere. The servers are so friendly and helpful and I would reccomend this lovely restaurant. The chef’s specials are delicious and there is great vegan & veggie options too.

3 nights in Bath. Weather on the first night forced us to find somewhere close to the hotel. Every cloud..... ! Lovely staff, great food and real value for money. So much so we returned again before we left. Thought it couldn't get any better...

Had dinner with my friends and it was really great. Chef Raj cooked some great curries and we were really happy after our meal. Would recommend it to everyone who likes Indian food.
