Palmers Fish and Chips in South Somerset

My wife and I eat in Palmers fish restaurant (the lager one) yesterday evening. The chips were best ever, the way I like them: quite crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. The batter on the cod wa just right. Not to thick, not too thin; nice and crisp. I also had a very generous portion of mushy peas. The service was prompt and the several waiters and waitresses very friendly and attentive. The restaurant was light and airy and meticulously clean. We had such a pleasant evening I felt I had to comment. Due to the pandemic we have not ventured out much in the last three years so it was a pleasant surprise. (On other occasions we have eaten at Palmers smaller restaurant in Yeovil where we had an excellent meal too.)

Twice recently we have bought take away fish and chips here. We had to wait a while after ordering our meals. Both times the portion size was small. Fish batter was under cooked and the chips were all very small and crispy. We could not eat very much of the meals!!! A lot of food ended up in the food waste bin. Meals were also very over priced for what you get. A waste of food and money. Will not be going their again.

As soon as we walked in the lady was rude, after eating we were charged £5 for a portion of chips that said £1.60 on the menu. When we questioned the lady she said what we ordered wasn’t actually on the menu yet and she had in fact undercharged us, even if that’s true she should’ve asked if we wanted what was actually on the menu that we asked for or this new much more expensive portion of chips.

A Covid 19 treat ! We went last night didn’t do click and collect just walked in , very safe and very organised , quick service and above all the food was as good as ever Thank you Palmers we loved it Mike and Paula. Yetminster

The fish and chips at Palmers is really good quality, we've never been disappointed an will continue to go there. However, their large portion is equivalent to a regular at other chippies (Martock village) and they don't have many veggie options for those like my husband, who love the chips, but don't eat the fish!

Palmers always used to be the place to go for fish and chips but it's now a shadow of its former self. Fish and chips from Palmers used to really good but now they're no different (and in some cases quite a bit worse) that you can get in any chip shop in the area.

People know Palmers in their out of town location (Bunford lane) but this is the town branch, with eat in facilities and take away. We had very good, freshly cooked take away fish and chips, not greasy and lovely crisp batter, did not have to wait too long and service was polite and efficient. Would definitely use this place again.
