Been going to the Palace for years. Although it’s changed hands and “John” and his team no longer have it - the food is still fabulous. Traditional Indian cuisine - service is great, friendly and efficient team. Clean and a great atmosphere.

Not sure what has happened. This was our favourite Indian in St Helens. We went Christmas Eve as a family. The restaurant was full to busting and as we sat down we could see lots of people complaining. After almost 2 hours, we had only had popadoms and a drink, the staff were running around trying to keep up with everything and receiving numerous complaints. We left as our children had plans to go out. Really sad to see, not sure if it is under new management as didn’t recognise any of the staff. Can’t comment on the food as didn’t get to eat. I felt sorry for the staff waiting tables and am sure the poor kitchen staff were under the same pressure, due to the restaurant being over booked.

Came down from London and friend recommended this place for dinner. Family friendly place and staff were helpful andattentive. Food was delicious and the spice levels were just right for us. Would recommend the meat thaali as you get a mixture of different dishes to try. Will defo come again on our next visit.

It was a pleasure to be at the Palace for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with our 360 photobooth. Staff were friendly and provided great customer service to myself and by the looks of it to a floor full of happy customers. I enjoyed my spicy garlic chilli chicken with garlic nan bread. I will definitely bring my family down next time I’m in the area!

Just randomly called in one evening and ordered prawn purée for starters, lamb tikka masala & tandoori mixed grill for mains. All served in good time, hot and everything was delicious, service was great too. 100% recommend and will definitely be back…

Well, I got a delivery from the Palace restaurant. Don't know where to start. Now, just so people know, we have been many times in the past and was more than acceptable. Over the last year or so, especially sitting in, the drinks are expensive, and food is below average. The food was greasy and pasty taste. We decided to get a takeaway tonight. Now, my main meal is to include an omelette to complement the dish. The meal didn't come with any omelette or sides we ordered. The meal was covered in grease/oil and was disgusting. I know some deliveries are luke warm, this being the case, most times you can live with it. The dish was disgusting, and my description with the grease made it worse. I contacted the restaurant, having been a good customer for years, and all they could start to offer is, NEXT TIME YOU ORDER. Well, stop there, that after this order will never happen. The food now being served here is poor and much better places around. They were told that. As you can see in the picture, the oily grease on the plate. All in the bin now. Order at your peril.

Great place, very accommodating, wouldn’t go anywhere else! Food is always lovely, never had a bad meal and go here regularly. Give it a try! 👌

We ordered a takeaway for 5 tonight for our Mother’s Day celebration, unfortunately it came with loads of items missing (and none of the four rice we’d ordered). We phoned multiple times to ask if some could be dropped off but there was no answer. So it was a really crappy meal (who wants to just eat a curry on its own).

Visited this restaurant for the first time, to celebrate our 50th Anniversary, and have to say that the food was absolutely fantastic, with good size portions, the service was also excellent, and reasonably priced. Would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Indian food.

Yesterday Aug 17th we booked a table for 14 at the palace for a birthday celebration for early evening On arrival the staff were fantastic both friendly and welcoming, we were shown to our table which was all laid up and waiting, we were then...

Just had a fantastic meal ..but a certain member of your staff is so arrogant .we wont be coming back .. he snatched the tip n walked off . Not a thanks or smile off him . What a shame as it’s a lovely place...

The fish and kebab starters were great. Special korai main was slightly underwelming and lacked flavour, but the prawn curry was great. Sides of pashwari naan was lovely and service was good

Visit here at least once a month as a family catch up meal, and every visit spot on said by all family members, plenty of food for prices, service always attentive, no complaints from us…..

Had a really nice meal at the Palace. We haven't been for a while and was very impressed with the food and service. Good vegetarian choices.

We had a take away, we ordered a mixed grill, mushroom bhaji and chicken tikka. Upon opening the mixed grill we were in shock. It came in a small plastic carton, few pieces of tikka, lamb tikka, a tiny chicken leg and a tiny sheek...

First visit in a long time due to the pandemic. Food was lovely as usual but the service was terrible. We had to ask for everything, even to place our food order. Not once was we ask did we need anything. We ordered a 2nd lot of drinks and they didn't arrive so we asked for them to be cancelled because we had finished. The staff member said our order wasn't even there. Even though we gave it to the lad who was bringing food out. Service was very disappointing, usually its brilliant. Food was lovely.

Nice enough food but hardly any staff and only one seemed to know what he was doing!waited to order a long time and waited for the bill even longer,not once did any waiter smile .....poor customer service but could not fault the food ....much better options are bar bursi and Diya in St. Helens ......won’t be returning.

Arrived on Wednesday for the last night before lockdown was enforced, obviously we expected it to be busy, had booked before hand using their website for 7pm. We’re greeted by 5 other groups of families waiting, plus a restaurant fully seated, after speaking to the other families they had all rang up and booked for 7pm also. We waited 20 minutes for a waiter to come over to even speak to us about what was going on, even after asking can we speak to them they had said “1 minute” and just didn’t come back.30 minutes past, we asked to order drinks, again, rude answer and not received.Finally seated 50 minutes after we had booked for (the drinks we had ordered hadn’t even come yet) we were sat on a table made for 8, when there was 2 of us, bear in mind a family of 6 were crammed next to us in a booth for 4, we offered to swap but they didn’t want to due to COVID. The starter plate and cutlery was literally thrown on the table to us, the drinks arrived over an hour having turned up to the place.They didn’t take our food order for another 30 minutes, even when the food came the plates were stone cold and not even heated up at all. Food was good quality and nice but service ruined it.To top it off, the family next to us were done with their meals, so the waiter put their dirty plates on the end of our table whilst he sorted the trolley out. Disgusting.Then at 9.30 we got our bill, at 9:55 he finally came over to take payment, then told us “you need to leave or else we get fined after 10pm” RUDE. It was my first experience here and I will not be returning, they had no excuse, they knew it would be busy being the last night before lockdown however making us wait this long for drinks and food is shocking, especially after booking. Multiple families had to leave due to having young children and couldn’t wait any longer.

Food is always good, granted it won't blow your mind but you don't pay blow your mind prices here. Staff are always attentive and nice and the owner is chatty and super opinionated and, in my eyes, one of the best St Helens characters there is.Great to see this restaurant persevering through this mess that Boris and his cronies have created.As for the food...spot on every time. Like it a bit more spicy then let them know and they will up the spice. The butter chicken with added heat is amazing. As for the Peshwari naan...best in the world...no, seriously.

I have been using the palace for years and have always been a fan, but tonight that all changed due to the rude and obnoxious way I was treated! I booked a reservation for 7:30 and turned up ready to enjoy a meal. The older guy in the Palace - I think he’s the manager, greeted me by ushering me back into the waiting area telling me to wait as there is a queue. I explained I had a reservation and had called in advance. He told me I’d have to wait. I said okay, thinking he was going to finish clearing the table he was already clearing ready for me. A waiter came past and said “oh yes, he has a reservation”. To which the older guy replied “that’s tough, reservations don’t mean anything! We don’t hold tables for people in case they don’t turn up!!!”. Er, excuse me Palace... that’s the whole point of a reservation - to hold a table for a given time so that it’s ready, or nearly ready, for when you arrive! The old man then ushered me rudely over to the waiting area and said that the other people waiting here will have to be seated first as they arrived first. Er, no Palace!! That’s not gonna happen. I will take my business elsewhere....I’ve actually seen them do this before, where people have booked but the Palace management are too greedy and want to fill their tables with walk-ins and make loyal customers wait. That’s never effected me before so I’ve never really thought too much of it. With the rude and disrespectful way I was treated tonight, I will take my curry nights to another place that values its customers and not just a quick buck from walk-ins!!! If you like disrespectful and rude treatment, then the Palace is the choice for you.

Long wait for you waterAfter the refurb myself and 2 friends though we would visit. Food was lovely, however the restaurant was very short staffed. Only 1 member of staff on the restaurant floor, waited 3/4 hr for a jug of water and 3 glasses

Been here a few times, service is very friendly. The curry sauce is divine, the chicken is off the bone, can't believe the prices are as cheap as the bog standard Indian takeaways around town. I detest the kind of sugary curries you get from other places, the taste in this place is rich and has just the right spicy kick without being too hot for my timid palate. Told my wife and my dad it was my favourite curry - it is now theirs too, they raved about it.

We've been visitors here for years, the food is fabulous and the service is exceptional. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is always served promptly. The food is reasonably priced and the ambience is warm and authentic.

Because we are not able to go in to our favorite Indian Restaurant, we had to try the take away option. Well we were not disappointed, the standard is just as good. After pointlessly queuing for an hour at the local supermarket just to get in...and then with all the ludicrous segregation and regulations inside that the government has forced us all to do...I really, really didn't feel like cooking that evening....so it is fortunate that the Palace was open (like a beacon of hope). The owner greeted me and times are really hard (which is why I ordered way more extras than we could eat....although I somehow managed them...followed by a long snooze haha). Food was delicious...the curries are always tasty and the peshwari naan is still the best in the world that I've tasted...no idea what they use but it is just awesome (so much so that I now order two of them each time...and then spend a week on the treadmill working them off haha).In these preposterous times, it was a welcome comfort meal and also nice for a bit of human interaction with a lovely guy.

Missing our weekly curry at the palace so decided to get a takeaway for the first time since lockdown and was not disappointment. The food was 10/10 and was as good as sitting in. Well done to John, Mark & staff for keeping standards so high, we won’t miss out again until we’re allowed to come and dine in!

I went here for a Christmas meal with a few work colleagues just before Christmas. It is the second time I have been to this restaurant and I can say how excellent the food was and was very impressed. Staff were very friendly and service was great. We didn't wait long for our food. I can't wait to go again. The Palace is by far the best Indian in St Helens.

Been visiting this restaurant for over 20yrs the only thing that has changed is some of the staff ..... have tried many other restaurants but the food has never tasted the same as the palace. Always given that little extra treat added to what you have ordered and the menu tweaked , nothing is never to much .Keep doing what your doing John and the guys Would recommend this restaurant for family/ couples for early dining walk ins otherwise make sure you book as gets very busy Enjoy your meal .

Regularly visit, and always the same warm welcome. Friendly, polite staff are very attentive. Excellent service, delicious food and comfortable seating. Excellent value for money and never had a bad meal! Just wish they would serve latte or cappuccino coffee to finish the meal. Recommend to anyone!

Went for a meal here last night and was so impressed! From the friendly and courteous greeting that we received on arrival, to the incredible selection on the menu. This place did not disappoint in any way! The quality of the food was superb , really nicely presented and full of great tastes and flavours. The staff were lovely and attentive and on hand straight away if we needed another drink or to pay the bill at the end. It was an excellent , excellent evening. Will definitely recommend and will return again soon!

The Palace just gets better every time we go. The standard is always high and the food is spot on. Gets busy at weekend so we tend to go mid week when its a bit quieter. Love the place.

Nice curry house located in the town centre on Duke street. Attentive and polite waiters. The curries ,special rice and naan breads were delicious, Eating good food in an ambient atmosphere. Will certainly visit again.

Gorgeous food speedy service. Asked the waiter about the Palace special, he just listed the meats in it! Waiter didn't crack a smile all night, I was tempted to draw a smiley face on the bill. Still left a tip and the lovely guy who said thank you for coming and saw us out was delightful.

Been here many times over the years and put up with the poor service as food was ok but having waited two hours and still no sign of our main courses tonight, my patience ran out and we left without receiving it.

Simply stunning, food, staff and the building all stunning, this is the best Indian Restaurant I have ever been to and I have been to many many restaurants, my family loved it and I will certainly be visiting again.

The best garlic naan in the west. Everytime I’m back in the uk I come here for a vegetarian Thali. Great value for money. Service usually good too.

Went to the Palace with my wife of 45 yearts, for our Anniversay and had one of the best meals ever. The service was fantastic and all the staff are great. Dont botter going abroad get in the Palace you wont regret it. Keep up the good work John, Mark and all the staff.

I visited The Palace on a Saturday evening along with two friends. We were initially lined up to experience the new pizza place in St Helens, but wanted a really good filling meal and the only place in St Helens that you can honestly get that is this place.

The Palace is a great Indian restaurant. Always has great service and chefs, the dishes are delicious. If you don’t mind a bit of spice, get the Chicken Tikka Rangeela. It’s the best Indian dish I’ve had anywhere. Full of flavour with a little kick.

I have visited this restaurant for a long time now and think the food is great and staff are friendly. Place could do with redecorating but the place is good for a family meal and prices are good. The mix starter is fabulous.

Visted the Palace mid week for a meal with my wife and the food just gets better. John and all the staff are great there is nothing they won,t do for you, best curry house in the northwest.

Went here last night with 16 friends and family, arrived on time the restaurant , was rammed we had to stand in the street and doorway for over 10 mins before we were even acknowledged. Seated at our table we then had to wait over half an hour for our drinks order to be taken , we finally ate our main course 2 hours after we arrived , many of us couldn’t be bothered although to be honest the food wasn’t bad . Very understaffed no one knew what they were doing , some of the waiters couldn’t identify the meals and were stirring them with spoons to see if it was lamb or chicken ! Overall it was a shambles and we will not be returning

No help from waiter unhelpful smelt like he hadn’t bathed in 18 weeks sat and waited for 2 hours and 30 minutes I would not reccomend anyone to come her bad service bad food bad hygiene (very bad hygiene) no one should have to put up with such a waste of a restraunt

Went to the Palace with my wife and daughter who was home from London and the meal was fantastic as always. The staff are great, I cannot think of a better night out, think thats why we go so often. Keep it up John and Mark.

Had a lovely meal for my other half’s birthday, absolutely delicious! All the staff very friendly & can’t do enough for you. Nothing is too much trouble! Will definitely be visiting again for our next birthday meal :-)) Reasonably prices too

I've gone veggie and dairy free in recent years, but I'm also a massive wimp with spices. I always had kormas, but this was something I've not had in a long time. My friend recommended that I bring a cream alternative to cool down a curry such as a balti that I usually get.

Went for dinner on the 19-01 at 7pm waited 20 mins to be seated and ordered drinks while we waited in the seating area.

We booked a table for new years eve, as we have eaten here for many times over the last 8 years with family and friends. I booked a table in person 1 month prior to the visit for 7pm and was promised by the Manager that we would not have to wait as we booked. On the evening I spoke to the same Manager who told us to wait despite the booked table (along with several other groups who had seemingly also booked). People were also turning up without bookings and got tables before those who had booked but nobody seemed bothered. He took a drinks order to try and appease all the people waiting, but the orders came out incorrect several times to much frustration of the customers waiting. Half the drinks never came out and despite asking 3 times (Manager twice and waitress) only got them 45 minutes later having now asked a 3rd person who had initially given them to the wrong people. It appears they do not ask for your name or have visible table numbers when the staff are all clearly confused with this system. When we eventually got seated we had no menus in the table, and despite asking twice it still took 15 more minutes to get some. When our food came out we had now been here 2 hours. We had been very patient, polite but as we had a 6 year old with us (wanted to eat and leave). We were driving, so not loud, roudy, drunk, (1 drink only) yet felt we had been ignored and treated appallingly badly as a family. Again, had to ask for the bill twice until I went to the bar and asked in person as had been forgotten about. To add insult to a disappointing evening, we had been charged for the drinks that had never turned up (as initially waited 45 minutes). Bill amended but no appology for bill, wait, mix ups, didnt seem to care if we left unhappy. Seemed to be all about getting people through the door and money in the tills. I understand its a business, but will not be returning again (after 8 years). Need to stop cutting corners, employ more staff, train them properly, improve your service and look after good repeat customers. Food is lovely but outbof principle cannot and will not come back. Such a shame.

Expect poppadoms you haven't ordered and a very long wait for your food with no apologies.Food was ok but we were passed being hungry when it eventually arrived.

I simply love this place...it delivers excellent food every time. The staff are fantastic and they seem genuinely interested in their customers. The food is delightful and the menu quite extensive, but if you ask nicely they will tailor a specific dish to your tastes (a little extra spice...no problem...a little less...a few extra onions...no problem...etc). All at a reasonable price too.

Since moving to England from Australia I was lucky enough to have my first Indian experience in England here!!! Amazing food and even better service. Can’t wait to eat here again 😄😄😄😄

Was out with my lovely wife for a date night. The food was great, beer good, staff excellent ,all in all a super night out and will be doing it again soon.

Definitely deteriorated since I last went. Food below average, service rushed & place needs refurbishment. I won’t be going again, much better food at the millon just higher up the same street.

My husband and I stopped off to stay over night in St Helens for a business meeting next day in Liverpool. We both are great lovers of Indian cuisine and are always looking for something different and exciting and we found it here! There was a good few people already eating when we arrived at 7ish, always a good sign! We had a lovely warm welcome, the interior was traditional laid out well very clean and comfortable. Service was excellent from start to finish, menu was extensive and the curries we ordered were exceptional in taste and portion size. Having side orders 2 shandies and a large red wine the bill was £38! We live in the South of England and our bill down there for the same would have been over £60.

The best curry in St Helens. As a St Helens born and bred girl, now living in Brisbane, I always miss a curry at The Palace and never miss a chance to go when I come home for a visit! Highly recommend!!!

We have visited here quite a few times now & drive nearly 6 miles from where we live. It's my son's favourite Indian restaurant! The food is so tasty & every meal we've had doesn't disappoint. They get the flavours just right & if you like butter chicken, it's the 'best' we've ever had. The king prawn puree is spiced to perfection, lovely balti & garlic naan bread. The owner always makes you feel welcome & the staff are excellent. We have never had to wait long for food even when it's busy. Lots of regulars coming back due to the service they provide.

Best Indian in St Helens. Great food and staff. Booking advisable at weekends. Get the Jalfezi - to die for.

After visiting The Palace many times and always enjoying the food and having good service, New Year's Eve was a nightmare. We phoned to book a table, turned up for the allocated time and then waited almost an hour to be seated. When we were finally seated, the waiter simply pointed to our table and sent us off to sit down. We then ordered our drinks, the wine was brought promptly to the table but we then waited another 25 minutes for our glasses to be brought to the table, despite asking for them a further 3 times. Whilst eating our meals, the music became very loud and several customers had to ask for it to be turned down. The food was lovely, as always but the service left a lot to be desired!

Had a great night after Brunos Rodizio had almost ruined it. Thank you for your staffs hospitality and for great food as ever.

Me and my wife visited this establishment twice over the Christmas period and on both occasions found the food to be excellent. The staff were a little to eager to get us to order but were pleasent and efficient and the waiting time for the food was acceptable. Overall a fine curry house worth visiting

Having visited the palace a number of times over the years because the food is very nice we won't be returning again!. Staff was rude we arrived at 11.40pm (states it's open until 1am on Saturday night) just myself and partner so not a large group!....we was rushed from the minute we got in there. We was asked 4 times in under 10 minutes what we wanted to order even though they still hadn't brought out our drinks order....the 4th time the waiter just stood over us...until we asked him to let us look at the menu without being pressured to hurry. I had to remind him we still haven't had our drinks yet. When the food arrived it was nice but with a special vindaloo I expect more prawns than one mini prawn. They shouldn't let people in if there going to hurry and pressure you in the time of there opening hours!!. Hoovering up is not very good in a restaurant when customers are eating either. We won't be returning due to rude staff the place has gone down hill....we was rushed out the door literally they said they ordered us a taxi which never came....just poor service in every way possible.

This restaurant not only has excellent food But the Staff always make you very welcome. Any menu can be altered to your own choice

Hi - I visited the restaurant as 'a last minute thing' about 3 weeks ago. I initially rang them first and they said just feel free to call in, which we did. My partner, who believe or not, had never tried Indian cuisine was feeling quite daring. So we ordered, the service was really good. Some restaurants rush your courses but they didn't and we had time to digest and enjoy the meal in a very relaxing atmosphere. The inside décor could do with a spruce up only because it's showing its age but don't let this detract from a fabulous meal at a reasonable price. This place certainly won my Partner, and I, over and we will be returning ...frequently. I have no hesitation recommending the restaurant and I would like to commend the management and staff for an excellent meal with great service. Thank you.
