Hassan Express in St. Helens

This is the absolute best Indian takeaway in St Helens, by far... We normally order king prawn tikka starter's, with a king prawn puree, not the cheapest but bloody good. Followed by a mix shashlik kebab between the two of us.. Truly amazing food ! Thanks guys ,keep it up...

Fed a family of 4 for 35 quid with delivery. The lamb madras is the best in St Helens.

Fast reliable delivery service. Food arrived piping hot 15 minutes earlier than estimated time. Portion sizes were huge and food was delicious. The guy who took my order was courteous and polite and the delivery driver was charming. Well done to all concerned

Order from here all the time the food is always spot on. I usually order a chicken madras and ask it to come not to hot or spicy as I like the flavours but cant handle the spice like I used to. And and always come great quality brilliant rice etc...

Ordered from here last night. Food was good but unfortunately there was a chicken bone in my meal. This could have got stuck in my throat. This has put me off returning again.

Order from here a lot tonight I had an issue with a small meal not turning up rang the takeaway explained what was missing passed the phone to someone else read the order out and apparently that meal wasn’t mentioned on ordering and I wasn’t charged although I told them when ordering to repeat the order back to me and that order was there when he repeated it but when rang up after delivery apparently I didn’t ask for it and got the phone put down on me after saying you haven’t been charged bye the way I was spoken to was a disgrace will never be going back here for that reason possibly one of there best customers also other than that food is ok

I loved this place and been coming a long time . recently , perhaps the food is too prepared - ( some meals taste tge ssme!). The hotness in the meals aren't consistent. The meals served have had an ' erratic' hotness to them .. They need to work out how much ' heat' each meal has and stick with it. The main and most important aspect of this review , is the disappointing viewing of the kitchen. The sight of the 'wet' and 'dry ' cloths left me speechless. The colour of the aprons - well ..... I don't think they've been cleaned in months! . I saw the person in the prep room at the back where the chicken was prepped , touching the brown bags where the naan bread was wrapped without washing his hands.... Their personal hygiene is not managed well too as I could smell one person over curry ! it's sad and very worrying that I've seen this. I can't entertain this place again until I see some reassurance of their cleaning routine in the window plus, staff EH certificates on preparing food. It's an investment that would ensure a successful future. sorry guys , go back to your orig menu/ practices when you first opened.

A decent takeaway, meal deals are good value but risen in price quite a bit recently. Diya on East lancs windle island and sherekhan restraunt do takeaway which for me puts hassan in 3rd place but definitely worth a visit

Lovely food have been a few times and will go again

This is the best Indian takeaway. We use it often, love the open kitchen. The food never fails to disappoint, generous portions and lovely staff. Excellent prices.

We have ordered from Hassan Express before and it was decent value. However this time I ordered a vegetarian curry and it was really bland. The poppadoms, naan breads and onion bhaji were nice. I genuinely think that this takeaway cannot cook vegetarian curry. It was tasteless. It was a birriani and should've had an omelette but it never. Never again for veggie curry

Telephone order. Ready in 20 minutes. So I turned up to collect. Took a seat as not ready, be a few minutes. 20 minutes later food appears and as I go to pay, its way more than expected. Something had been lost in translation but there where SIX mixed tandoori starters instead of one.Ok these things happen so I wait while its put right. When I get home, I unpack to find that the other part of the order , Tandoori Mixed Grill -to quote the menu " Tandoori specialities are marinated in sauces with delicate herbs & exotic mix of spices before being cooked in the tandoor. All tandoori dishes are garnished with strips of capsicum & onions. Served with a sauce of your choice"" does not have the Balti Sauce I chose or any other sauce for that matter.Now come on, its a Weds night, I was the only person in there the whole time. The phone rang just twice.It's a 15 minute drive away so not going to drive all the way back to seek my sauce. Need to up your game . Pity really because the food it's self was excellent .

I love this place It's well established and does its thing not like the towncentre ones that are so expensive. You can afford a good quality meal from here the staff are lovely. please never change x

Nice food. Don't like the pickled chilli in the curry I had (garlic chilli balti) and cardapons in rice cut too small so had a hard time fishing them out. Otherwise a very nice curry

I really wanted to rate this establishment 0.5 but this wasn't permitted. We ordered 2 portions of onion bahjis, when we opened the containers we were horrified! 2x4 black, burnt balls of charcoal, dripping dirty fat! Straight in the Bin!!! Chicken pasanda - orange coloured glug, no almonds or even almond flavour! Yuk!! Chicken balti, lacked flavour and taste. Pilau rice - a cold, congealed mess. Chicken - poor quality! AVOID AT ALL COSTS, A COMPLETE DISASTER!!

We called for a meal for 5 of us - 2 adults, and three kids, and it didn’t disappoint! We got the set meal ‘c’ for two - that’s two tandoori mixed grills with popadum’s, rice, naan’s, balti sauce and salad. We also got a couple of Tikka masalla’s - very good. Piping hot, really fresh and very good value for money! We’ll be back again soon!

Been coming here on and off for years and it is still by far the best Indian around!!

Had our first meal from Hassan's last night didn't use the free delivery as they said there was atleast 1hr wait we had a set meal which was excellent would have given 5 stars if delivery was not as long as they said will definitely be using them again. Helpings where really generous using the leftovers for my tea tonight.

Butter chicken smothered with coconut milk, poppadoms tasted of stale oil. Overall a bad experience.

Ordered my take away at 6.30 to allow 1hr for cooking and delivery, was told 7.45 which I thought was fair enough, no food at 8pm, still no food at 8.30, rang them and it sounded like they hadn't made my food or has forgotten, said it would be 5 mins, 25 mins later food turns up, cold! Delivery driver great, and apologies, can't fault him. Only good thing was rang to complain and they knocked 6.50 off the bill.

Not good waited 1.30hrs for food it was freezing cold my special kebab was probably the worst I’ve ever had, wife prawn dish was disgusting, I did get food from here on a regular basis but after that never again it all went in the bin

Just tried to order from Hassan, been doing this for years. Tonight they added an extra £5 or £6 onto the total.when questioned they said it was for delivery. On the website it states free delivery over £10, the order was £12. Then when questioned he wouldn’t say why they were charging for delivery and why the website was wrong. Didn’t really want to know. Very poor attitude. Have they just started making prices up because of COVID? I appreciate most things are getting blamed on that but we have used this take away throughout and not had an issue! Won’t be rushing back. Other takeaways doing similar deals.......

Can't go wrong with the Mix Shashlik Kebab. It's not *quite* as big as others I've had, but it's also not advertised as being for 2 people, and is a bit cheaper at just £6.50! It can be a bit difficult to eat as designed, i.e. as a wrap, so I'd certainly recommend taking it home and plating up with a knife and fork, as it can be a bit unwieldy and dripping with grease and sauce, but in a good way! I'd highly recommend going here, and I'll be going back myself in the future to try a bit more of the menu!

Absolutely fantastic take a way, 5 Star food. We personally like the king prawn appetizer & a mixed Shashlik Kebab ( 1 is good for 2 people) all freshly cooked and a clean place 👌👌👌👌

Fast service friendly staff good quality food defo recommend

We have used this takeaway twice and was happy with the first meal. The last meal we had my prawn dansak was very watery and tasteless. The nan bread was hard and very dry. Not happy at all. Will think twice before ordering again.

After being a regular customer for years i have been let down badly tonight they said the wait time would be a hour , after two hours i phoned then they said may be another hour not using them again.

Disgusting food, i saw a rat run into the kitchen, almost made me throw up my food, would never go here again

Poorly crafted poppadoms they were very stale and served with dry rice, the mango chutney was also bland and had no taste, and it felt like i was eating cardboard from my plate, would not order here again

The curry was extremely dry and seemed microwaved, the rice was also very hard and wasn't cooked properly, would not go here again

The curry was too bitter and dry, rice undercooked and owner rudely refused a refund

So you order, go pick up, and the meal hasn't even been cooked. I've been here only (since the curry failures) for chicken tikka kebabs. Now that's taken a bow. Phone up asking why there's naff all chicken in my meal. Told they would give me extra next time. How likely are they to remember this conversation, god only knows. Hygiene standard in the kitchen leaves a lot to be desired.

Best place for miles. Order from here regularly. Restaurant quality food delivered to your door. Never late. Always piping hot. Tried lots on the menu and every meal, every time, is consistently brilliant.

First time ordering from here and it won’t be the last. Had the set meal menu for four people and everything was delicious and fresh . Too much food to finish so it’s Indian for leftovers tomorrow then.

Great food & service! Speciality curries like the North India Garlic is one of the best, if not the best curry ive ever tasted, the kebabs are also delightful especially the mixed Shaslik which leads me onto their service. Me and a mate rang up last night at 10:40 when they were getting ready to close and they delivered us 2 Shaslik kebabs with 30 minutes and they were freshly made and delicious. Person who answered the phone tried to charge me extra then what was stated on the menu. When I questioned this he said he wasn't bothered. Very poor attitudes from the person won't order from here again.

Was a regular customer until when you phone up the same person keeps charging extra. Complete idiot...long term customer lost and my friends won't be ordering also will be advising others.

Ordered food at 7.30 pm was told it would be 45 mins. Still waiting at 9pm! Phoned to be told that they had been to the wrong house in which case they could have rung me??? Always order from here but won’t be doing it again as this is happening a lot.

Possibly one of the best Indian cuisine restaurants about, the only reason I have removed one star is the lack of vegetarian items on the menu.

Dirty place. They will try anything to get extra money out of you. Food is basic, nothing worth waiting for. Service is about as polite as superman hitting batman while the joker watches on. Complete was of time. But hey you might be lucky and get a descent meal off these so called chefs. More like a girl scouts cooking class

My daughter and I decided to order a meal from this take away. I decided to order a dish called balti saagwala chicken tikka. It clearly states on the menu that this dish includes any rice or nan bread from the menu. When my daughter phoned she was informed we were using an old menu (untrue) and we had to pay an extra 80p. She decided to take the menu with her and when she got there she attempted to show it and explain to the server that the nan bread was free. He would not listen to her, completely dismissed her and said the manager does the pricing and he knows what he is doing. When she returned she told me how much she had been charged. I checked the prices and realised that she had been overcharged by £2 which was the price of the garlic and keema nan that was supposed to be included with the cost of the curry. She rang the takeaway and was not given an apology or anything. In fact the person she spoke to could only be described as rude and arrogant. He just said mistakes happen and she could come and het her £2 or have it knocked off her next take away. Disgusting customer service! We won't be returning again. The starter was cold and dried up and the chicken was of a very poor quality. There are far better takeaways in this town. Spend your money elsewhere!

Lovely food, fast service with local delivery available, gets busy for delivery at peak times. Parking can be tight as it is a residential street, the menu is extensive, open kitchen, small amendments can be made such as less onion etc, really lovely find and we keep going back.

Newish to the area and fancied a curry. Delivered on time, if not early. Driver was pleasant and chatty. Food was piping hot and tasted FANTASTIC! Will definitely be using again. I would give 6 stars if I could 👌👌👌

Always been great food but try the North Indian garlic dish and ask for the Meal Deal, 2 starters, 2 main courses, rice, Nan & side order all for £12, I've always asked for the meal deal every visit for the last several years...

the food here is excellent, the price is perfect, and the pickup collection anddeluver have never let us diwn. we always use hassan now over any other indian within 10 miles!

A decent Indian and never had a problem in the years I've used them. Always ready for collection when they say it will be and the food is always nice and you get loads when you order a meal deal for 2, theres usually enough left over for a meal/snack for 2 the next day as well 😉

Ordered from this place on Monday. Was outstanding. Got a Lamb Tikka starter (5 out of 5), Chicken Chatt (5 out of 5) and Onion Baji (5 out of 5) starters too. Main was Chicken Samber (5 out of 5). Also got onion rice and chips. The Samber (12 out of 5) was the best I have had ever. Rice was cooked to a good standard and the chips was much better than I get anywhere else. They was how chips should be. Free popadom and chutney, which is always good. Highly recommend. There are a few good indians cropping up and they certainly are good. However, they don't deliver. These guys deliver and the food is as good as the bigger names cropping up (you guys know where I am talking about). I only have one suggestion. It was a little difficult to communicate my order to the person over the phone. We got there in the end, but it was a struggle.

As this take away is hidden away in row of terraced houses it would be very easy to miss. That would be a pity as the food is excellent and very good value. My wife and I occasionally just have one meal between us such is the quality of the portions provided. The staff are very friendly and the fact the kitchen is open plan so you see all the food being cooked adds to the overall impression.

Ordered food from here for the first time, one hour for delivery so we collected only to find rice missing(4 meals ordered) chips half cooked & cold, meals luke warm, 2 popadoms no chutney or onions. Called to ask for rice to be dropped off but unfortunately they were too busy !!! Very basic to have food hot, we will not be using again.

The food from here is very poor quality. The chicken was tough and didn’t taste good. Plus I don’t think they are very hygienic because we both had the runs within half an hour of finishing our meal. Not good at all I would not go back there again that’s for sure!

We usually have an Indian meal on Friday night, and decided to try Hassan Express for the first time. Hidden away in a back Street we had our doubts but they were extremely busy and 5 chefs were run off their feet.One thing I like is that the kitchen is fully exposed to the customer and all the fresh ingredients are on view.Our meals were delicious and the chicken was well cooked and moist. Looking forward to trying another meal. Will definitely be returning.

Decided on a night in with my hubby to celebrate the new year and thought we would get an Indian take away and we're so glad we chose hassan express best curry I have ever tasted. Plus the naan bread and onion bhaji 's were out of this world. I will Defo become a regular to here ☺

I’ve been in the area for all my life and tried a lot of the local Indian takeaways and for sure this is the best one in town. The curries are delicious and there are a lot of diffrent curries to suit your specific taste of curry. My friends who are vegetarian also love this place as they provide them with food that specific diet choice. The delivery is excellent and I received my meal on time without any fuss. I recommend hassan express to all my friends and work colleagues.

I'm a vegetarian so very fussy about what and where I eat, but I can't say a bad word about this place. I'd say it's the best Indian in St Helens. Always clean and everything is cooked in front of you.

Food is nice and the meal deal is good value for money. But the delivery times are bad. Usually 1.5 hours or sometimes even longer. I wouldn't order here but my partner thinks it's the best Indian in the area.

This takeaway is tucked away and somewhere you wouldn't find by chance. It was recommended to me by my son in law. We had Grandkids staying and we'd fed them but didn't feel like cooking for ourselves, so we decided to try a takeaway. We love Indian food but I find it doesn't travel well and takeaway never matches the sit in experience.However, we placed our order over the phone. Don't ask me why but we played safe and went for a set meal for 2. Poppadums, chutneys, meat samosas and chicken tikka starters. A side of Bombay Aloo with chicken tikka balti and chicken tikka Massala !!! (Why ?). Pilau rice and naan bread. The property was very tidy , clean and well appointed. 25 minutes from ordering I was on my way home. The food was hot and well labelled. The starters were the usual fayre but the balti was lovely, tender chicken pieces and rich tasty sauce. The Massala was tasty but not for me. However, the chicken in this was also very tender. The only downside was the naan which was tough. Overall it was a pleasant experience and one we'll repeat whenever we can't be bothered to DIY.

Recently moved in round the corner and neighbour recommended. This is the best Indian by far that I have had in this area and I've tried a few ! Currys are so fresh and nice tender lamb. I've ordered a few times and everything has been lovely. So reasonably price too.

Have ordered regularly from here over the last few years but been a while since our last one. It has really deteriorated in terms of quality and flavour. Sauces were runny and lacking in flavour; very little richness and supermarket curry jars are better than what we got tonight. Wasn't just one bad dish either, it was all of the food so assume changed hands or chef changed. Food took 90 mins to come when told 60 mins max, it wasn't very hot and item had been missed off the order. Time to look for a new Indian takeaway in St Helens.

Waited over a hour for our food, when it arrived the chips tasted like rubber and were cold and the garlic bread was horrible. Main meals were cold also. I have ordered a few times in the past and it's been okay but on this occasion it was not very good, disappointed to say the least.

Thought we would try the offer of set meals for £11 if you collect so we did we arrived 10 mins after they had opened and was totally ignored for 10 minutes while the unloaded there car, put the order in and we suggested we would go for a walk and return in 20 minutes as they were not ready for business, we returned after our little wander 30 mins later and the food still wasn't ready after being totally ignored again the food was ready 50 mins after we ordered it with no apology. Ok we though we got a good deal however popadoms missing from the order and the food was lacking intaste in fact it had no taste only identified by its colour and let me tell you buy extra toilet roll coz your going to need it, rubbish never again please stay away unless you have a good supply of roll and like being ignored

We regularly use Hassan Express for a family get together take away. The food is always delicious, fresh and a good price. You can watch your food being cooked in front of you while you wait. I would highly recommend giving it a try.

The most authentic Indian takeaway in St Helens. Best food, spotlessly clean. You can watch your food being cooked. Parking often difficult, as it's on a narrow, residential, street. They do deliver though.
