A real shame that the greed and lack of ethics of management in attempting to get clientele to pay a service charge twice undermines the excellent food and service. The prices are high - why do you and other restaurants attempt this scam? Is Michelin aware?

Even by London standrads, you need to be fairly loaded to enjoy a meal at Pahlihill Bandrabhai Restaurant. The portions are reasonable, but yet, not quite commensurate with the pricing - again, even by London standards. If the price includes the high standrad of friendly, efficient and caring service staff, if it includes the open kitchen system which ensures a very high order of safety in food handling and preparation, well, I am willing to concede, they have a right to charge what they do. May be it is the retiree in me that hurt a bit when the bill came! The atmosphere is nice and cozy, and the place is child- (in my case, grandchild) friendly. They have a cloak room facility, which is very convenient.

I was here last week with my parents. The lady at the desk pretended to “look” on the screen before refusing a table saying there is nothing available. Half the restaurant was empty and not sure what she was “looking” at if they were fully booked out. Also, did I mention, she was brown herself!

Visited on a Monday evening, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. We were served by Kamal who was very personable and explained the menu to us. His friendly and attentive service was noticed and appreciated. He recommended the pork shoulder and dhal which we loved. The bar downstairs was beautiful and cosy. Will definitely be back!

Unbelievable food. The best Papadi chaat and cheesecake I've ever had. We also had the lamb biryani which was melt in the mouth and incredibly flavourful. The aubergine bartha was also a highlight. I wish I took more photos!

Excellent meal and very good service, the booths are comfortable and the ambience is superb. No loud music, you can go with a group of friends and family and enjoy each other's company! Also good for couples. The kulcha stands out for me but there's dishes to suit every taste.

If you’re looking for a special treat and you’re in the mood for some southern Indian cuisine, then you gotta come here! We had one day left in London before flying home to Los Angeles and my daughter had a craving and suggested we try this place! On short notice, we were able to grab a late seating at 7:45pm and this place was still hopping with locals having a grand old time! Kamal was our server and he was quite knowledgeable of the dishes and had some wonderful recommendations that we were lucky enough to have followed. We were hungry and adventurous so we tried a little bit of everything. Of all the items we tried and loved, a few items really stuck out! You MUST order these! 1. The Summer Chat is a must as it was a refreshing salad with delicious tomatoes, burrata cheese and cantaloupe! 2. The Flaky Flat Bread-Hot & Delicious 3. The Grilled Asparagus-Very Flavorful 4. The Mangalore Bun & Crab Sukkha (Be sure to tear the bun and stuff crab in it to experience ultimate “Boss Level” taste! 5. Lamb Rump-Cooked to Perfection! 6. The Pahli Hill Chicken Tikka-Yummy! 7. Saag Paneer-Ties Everything Together 8. For Dessert: Carrot Cake “Halwa” with Ice Cream 9. Also for dessert: Mango Cheesecake Kamal was a great server. He was quick, efficient and with a sharp sense of humor. I feel that without his suggestions and honest opinion, we wouldn’t have chosen some of the dishes….we would have completely missed out! We will definitely be coming back here again next year when we’re back in London and will look for Kamal again! Thank you Kamal & Pahli Hill!

Best Indian food I’ve ever had! The padadi chaat, and chicken curry are a must try! The ambience was a tad bit cluttered and load at times due to the acoustics of the building. So try to sit down stairs if possible. Overall I would recommend this 10 times out of 10! There is a reason they are recognized by The Michelin Guides!!!

I had an absolutely wonderful evening at Pahli Hill, celebrating my 60th birthday. We were lucky enough to be served at the Chef's Counter, and everything about the evening was truly memorable. Avi and his team were so friendly and welcoming, and happy to talk through the dishes and explain what they were doing. The cocktails and the food were without exception beautifully presented and the flavours were fresh and amazing. Thank you so much again for a hugely enjoyable evening.

We were craving for dosa since months. Have eaten it in many restaurants across London but didn’t like it that much!! We had the best dosas here at Pahli Hill. A huge crispy dosa, with delicious sambhar, potatoes and two chutneys. Everyone were so friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. Mango cheesecake was perfect, delectable!!I must add for me personally, when we sat down the server asked us - if we wanted water on our tables (never in London I have been asked this) he also got ice cubes and lemon slices. So it felt like India, thanks so much to him for being this nice and a good server. Although it was pricey, it was all worth it at the end. I would highly recommend it to others I know. Thanks so much for your hospitality, amazing food and great staff.

Amazing cocktails, great food but noisy and cramped. The cocktails are great and make sure you ask for the Bandra Bhai menu if you are dining in the restaurant upstairs. There are some exclusive choices in this and would particularly recommend the Yuzu. The food is also great but maybe could do with some more vegetarian options and clearer marking of them. Not very vegan friendly. The space is quite cramped and so it gets very very loud! Difficult to hold a conversation at peak times.

Stumbled into this place at 8 pm with clients after a work event and no booking. Staff bent over backwards ro make us feel welcome, service was great and the quality of food was exceptional. Every dish was faultless, cracking place I couldn't recommend highly enough. We will definitely be back

Wonderful dishes prepared in traditional ways. We had a group if 6 and shared starters and main dishes. Veal, chicken, squid, and more. Curry was very well prepared. Biryani was well done as well. Also had a hibiscus tea that was extraordinary. The carrot halwa was amazing.

This is a quirky underground cocktail bar in Fitzrovia modelled as a tribute to Indian smugglers of the 70s. The walls are full of giant portraits of shady looking men but the place also has a nice cosy vibe. There is live music in the evenings which was really nice. I thought that the food was better than the cocktails. Overall, it is a cosy cocktail bar with an interesting vibe and great food.

Excellent staff and service all around. The drinks were tasty and well crafted. Our dinner was absolutely delicious. This place is a gem. I will be thinking about this meal for many years to come.

I went to Pahli Hill for lunch with some friends more than a year ago, but I noticed that some of the dished in the lunchtime special tasted much better when I went back yesterday. There was also a greater portion size. Ali's service was also very good. Thus, perfect score.

We were looking forward to the cocktails but turned out to be a let down as they tasted like syrup & lemonade, food was over priced and tasteless, this was not your authentic Indian food! I am sorry but the whole evening was a let down

The food is rubbish. The cocktail is rubbish all chemical mixers nothing real, hardly any alcohol was put in, the cheap very tiny Ikea glass they have been using to save money by serving a small glass for £13 no presentation on drinks as well as food for main dish costs £34.99.The atmosphere was dull down in the basement . Would not recommend to anyone.

We came on the advice of Michelin. Very spicy cuisine!!! Impossible to eat the starters. At 9:30 p.m. he dims the lights and turns on the air conditioning, so we can leave quickly! Very disappointed ! And not cheap!

The service and atmosphere was pretty good. decent vegetarian options. The starters (especially the papdi chat) were very good. The Paper Dosa and accompaniments lacked flavour and it wasn't worth the price. The atmosphere is really nice and service was quite good as well.

Excellent indian restaurant! The food tasted great. It was a cosy and relaxing atmosphere. Also the staff were kind and friendly. According to a friend of mine who lived in India for several years, it seemed a little modern Indian but they served authentic dishes as well. As a Michelin bib gourmand, the price was reasonable for the quality of food and service, although it's not cheap of course.

It was the first Indian fine dine place we tried other than street food and it was really good. Since we were not familiar with the menu, we asked the waiters for help in choosing and we loved every dish they suggested. The yoghurts that we suddenly come across in meals provide incredible relief, they are like a surprise hidden in the meal. We had a lovely evening eating great food surrounded by warm people. See you again!

My husband and I came for the tasting menu, it was delicious. We really enjoyed all the courses. My favourite was the Crab bun and the Lamb. The cocktails were amazing as well. The staff were so nice and knowledgeable and gave us descriptions of each course. It was a bit pricey but definitely worth it if you enjoy different flavours. We felt totally spoilt for the evening.

Decided to try this restaurant as the menu looked very interesting. The food was delicious, particularly the pork starter; however if you want the evening to be absolutely splendid, ask to sit at a table where Kamal will be your waiter. He is brilliant, we had such a laugh with him all evening. He was very attentive without being over bearing. The food was worth the visit, as well as the wine, but Kamal made the whole experience excellent.

We went for dinner with a few friends and so managed to share a lot of dishes. We really enjoyed everything that we ate . The portions were large and so tasty and fresh . The atmosphere was lovely , the staff were very friendly and helpful , Francis took his time to help and advise us . Cocktails were amazing , we hope to return and sample deserts as none of us could make space for one this time !

So happy we found this restaurant! The food is amazing. It's not your typical Indian food with curries only. The depth of flavor in the food is wonderful, with a mix of spices and herbs that makes every dish unique. We tried the Tasting Menu and it was a great experience. The service is also great - Francis, especially, is very attentive and friendly. The space is warm and cozy, but there's plenty of room between the tables so you don't sacrifice your privacy. We will be going back every time we visit London!

A wonderful Tasting Menu experience enjoyed Saturday 6th April. I appreciated a phone call beforehand to ask about allergies and totally forgot to mention we had a gluten free and one pregnant dietary requirement. This was politely and professionally handled when we arrrived by Francis, and the meal including all the substitutions were absolutely amazing. We all enjoyed a flavoursome cocktail. For those not drinking it wasn’t any loss; the cocktails were flavoursome and enjoyable. We all had 2 each! It was some of the best indian cuisine we had all eaten! We had dishes such as asparagus with yoghurt, spicy pork, a hearty chicken curry, beautifully cooked lamb and beef slivers with sauce and the desserts! Normally overly sweet, we mere presented with the lightest and fluffiest cheesecake, mango sorbet and carrot halwa. By the end of the meal we were full of praise at the pace, size of portions, attentive staff and overall experience. I think I’ve just found my favourite Indian in London. A special thanks to Francis for his support; he is ever present on the floor ensuring you had a good time. His attention to detail with a sense of humour was refreshing and set a lovely tone from the moment we arrived.

Well what can I say. A splendid experience. Kamal was the best hostess ever. Catered to all our need. He was so entertaining. He should be a comedian as a side kick. Really loved his energy and enthusiasm. The food was Devine. Everything he advised to order was bang on. We will be returning. Louisa was such a lovely individual and is an asset to the company.

A fabulous meal, each dish was delicious. Particularly, the Kulcha with mushroom & truffle was spectacular, perfectly balanced with a kick from the Birds Eye chilli. The Bottle Gourd Kofta had a lovely saffron flavour, and was paired well with the flaky parota and spongy sourdough roti. Will come again!

Don’t normally write reviews but for the price you paying to eat there the food is absolutely nothing exciting. £32 for a curry and they say to share but there is not enough meat for sharing. All meat and fish portions are small but put on big plates with big piles of veg so it looks like there’s more. Servers dont know the dishes and couldn’t tell us what was being given to our table. 2 of our starters never arrived manager told us he will give us something free yet we got charged for the starters and nothing complimentary. Overall bad experience. Cocktails are very good and only thing that kept us there for the duration. When we left they took 15 minutes to find our jackets. Would recommend the bar downstairs for drinks only.

The store manager seems very friendly, but during desserts, he accidentally brought three desserts out instead of one, and when we told him about it, he said if we don’t like them, he’ll not charge them and he ended up charging them even if we didn’t touch two of them. Staff were too attentive, to the point it was annoying as they were coming to our table every 5-7 minutes for no reason. Food was overpriced, £7 for the Khakhra which was basically one poppadom broken up into 4/5 pieces. £32 for a chicken curry which wasn’t even enough for one person and had 3 small pieces of thigh meat in it. There are a lot better high end Indian restaurants nearby!

The service was outstanding. Food was great and the atmosphere was amazing. Lovely place for a dinner with friends or a birthday. The staff are very attentive and will assist anything they can, great work. The decor was nice as well which helps the atmosphere.

We finally got to experience Pahli Hill. Everything was first rate starting with the level of service from all of the staff, then moving onto the food which was perfectly presented and packed with flavour. The personal food suggestions from the staff were all spot on. I’ve already recommended Pahli Hill to quite a few people. A new personal favourite.

I was so excited to try Pahli Hill- unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations. Starting with the good, the mango and apple cocktails were excellent (I would return for these) and our starters were rather good (pork shoulder and crab). Service was okay- some servers were better than others and there were times it took a while for anyone to come check on us. Sadly, the mains were disappointing. We had the dosa and the monkfish— the dosa was more like a starter than a main and the flavours were only okay, the monkfish tasted and smelled EXTREMELY fishy in a way I’ve never experienced monkfish taste. We were very sad because the meal did start off strong but at the high price point, it certainly wasn’t worth it for the average to below average mains.

We visited on Saturday and sat at the Chefs table with the tasting menu. Absolutely perfect night. The food was incredible, and there was plenty! Avi gave us an overview of each dish as they arrived, and he was really friendly. The service was second to none, everyone was great. We also opted for the wine pairing which I'd recommend, the sommelier talked us through each pairing. Would definitely recommend.

Right, here we go ! Review of another Indian restaurant in the highly competitive central London area where there are already hundreds of restaurants serving good top Indian cuisine. Just keeping in mind that Gymkhana has recently been awarded 2 Michelin stars. So came here with very high expectations. I have to say overall I was disappointed. I come from New Delhi and hence the food has to be very good for me to really enjoy and like it. We ordered the squid to start and then followed it with Dal Makhni / Aubergine / Chargrilled Lamb / chicken curry. Everything was decent bearing in mind that chicken curry was £32/- and Lamb dish was £30/- plus. These are pretty expensive prices keeping in mind Dishoom serves a chicken curry for £16 and Dal for £8.90/- Overall the food is decent but in my opinion not as good as the other competitors serving Indian food in Mayfair area. I don’t want to name individual restaurants better than Pali Hill. The carrot Halwa with ice cream In desserts and as quite good and I enjoyed that. Meal for 2 was £169/- ( with 1 beer and 1 glass of wine ) Verdict - 4/5

Service was very nice, however food was very overpriced. Mango cocktail: 5/5 refreshing drink! Papadi Chaat: 3/5 very flavourful but nothing special Truffle kulcha: 1/5 greasy and too spicy, cannot taste the truffle at all and the dish didn’t really bring out the flavour of mushrooms… major disappointment Steamed seabass: 3/5 portion is SUPER small for a 32£ dish… it tasted good but it really wasn’t worth it Dosa: 2/5 again, 21£ is insanely overpriced for an ordinary dosa… there really was nothing special about it that makes it worth the price

Papadi chat was nice, however thats all that was good about the food here. £32 for a 'homemade' chicken curry was substandard at best. Chicken was cooked ok bit the sauce was watery, extremely overpriced. Had a lacha paratha which can only be described as baby size, won't be coming back.

We came for lunch on a friend's recommendation and we're not disappointed. I had though there was a st menu for lunch (as shown on other reviews) but we weren't offered that. No matter, we had wonderful advice on each dish, and possible combinations, from our waitress and the food was divine. It was quiet but we were there at lunchtime. I understand it is always busy in the evenings. Would highly recommend

I cannot say enough good things about the chef's counter at Pahli Hill, and my only regret is that I didn't write this review right after dining there in September. If you saw Avi on Great British Menu you can tell that his food is extraordinary, but also, he really is the nicest guy and genuinely excited about what he's doing at the restaurant. He saw my eyes light up when I saw a dosa go by, and minutes later there was "just a little one" in front of us. The Bib Gourmand is certainly well-earned, but if my meal is anything to go by, the star is deserved. I hope it is coming.

Food was alright, good but for the price expected better - there are better Indians in soho, waitresses were very sweet... however... The real issue is that managers rushed us the whole meal to get the table back. On booking we were told we'd have 1.5 hours, then after we were seated they said theyd need it back earlier, and every course was rushed through subsequently. For a £600 meal, this was not pleasant, but the real kicker was when we'd ordered dessert and coffee they took ages to bring it as they started to get busier - but still continued to hurry us, getting us to pay the bill before it was brought! I would've accepted even this...but when they finally kicked us off the table before we'd had time to finish the coffee we'd paid for it really nailed the coffin - I've never paid £600+ for a meal anywhere and then not been allowed to finish it. If you need the table back in a rush then bring the food on time. Poor management. Will not be returning. Recommend Farzi London Cafe instead.

The food and the drinks were just as fab as we thought they would be, they were all 10/10. But it’s the staff that really stood out for my pal and I. They were all fantastic, funny and super attentive - the kind you want to be friends with 👌👯‍♀️ Love this place - will recommend to anyone and everyone.

This is not just a restaurant, but an experience. The staff are very kind and accommodating, and you feel pampered by their care. The cocktails quite creative, especially their mango cocktail, which somehow despite being a clear drink tastes exactly like a mango lassi. The food is incredibly fresh, tasteful, and creative. They do some very cool takes on some classic indian dishes like Dosas. It's very much worth the stop, and overall this was an amazing restaurant and experience!

We visited to take advantage of their set menu offer. The cuisine is Indian. The food was very good particularly the vegetarian dishes. Nice ambience too. The only negative was that the service was a little slow. However we had an enjoyable lunch which was not only tasty but very reasonably priced.

The restaurant came highly recommended by friends and we were thrilled with our experience. We ordered the mango cocktail, papadi chaat, hara kebab, artichokes and kofta - all delicious! Delicious food at this Indian! First of all, compliments to Francis and his service! We were able to get a spot last minute. The dishes were delicious! A taste explosion of sweet, sour, salty, and freshness! The service was fast and friendly. I would definitely come back here.

Overall I was happy with the food, but there was one dish I was extremely not happy with - not the taste, but the fact that the 'GRILLED SCALLOPS, PALOURDE CLAMS' ONLY had 2 scallops! Only 2, and the clams were the tinniest ever. For 'fine dining' this quality is not what I would expect. And it didn't come cheap either. Other dishes we ordered were PA PA D I C H AT - very delicious. We also had the chicken and fish curry, and were pleased that they both actually did taste very home-style. BLACK DAL or daal makhani was really good, and I know many places don't get that right. Both PALI HILL FLAKY FLAT BREAD and TANDOORI SOURDOUGH ROTI were fresh. although very small! We stayed for quite a while and no one rushed us out, so that suited us just fine. Its quite pricey and I didn't feel like it was fine dining, but the food was good for sure.

The menu here is really interesting, a slightly different take on classic Indian dishes. The mangalore bun and crab sukka is not a combination I’ve tried before, however, I really did enjoy it. The papdi chat was really good too. The main course was quite average, however, there was a mango lassi cocktail (vodka based) that we tried, which was fascinating because it was a clear liquid (very unlike lassi) and it was so delicious. Overall we had a good time here, however, felt that it was a bit too overpriced for average Indian food. However, the service here is commendable, the staff are really kind and really good at hospitality. I also have to mention the dessert, the carrot halwa, which was mind blowing, it was the best thing I had there, it was delicious.

Really expensive, starters we had were decent but the mains were completely underwhelming. Too spicy and just sauce with a couple of pieces of salmon in the fish curry. No naan and the dosa wasn’t filled. Service was okay but the food took over 40 minutes for the mains and no one apologised as we sat waiting for our food whilst everyone around us who arrived after was eating. Would give it a miss

The one star is for the kitchen chef Tuka Ram ! Went there this evening and absolutely no problem with the service or the food. However the chef's behavior , tone and abuse with his service guys was terrible and very condescending. Seniors need to behave better with their colleagues in this restaurant

Outstanding experience and great service from Francis!

I came here during my holiday, after seeing a post on instagram about the vibes and food and head chef! This place did not disappoint! Customer service was fantastic! Frances was the biggest help and provided me the best service and confidence I could have asked for in a busy dinner spot! The bartenders and staff were all so very kind and the food was just… so yummy and spectacular…yeah you have got to just go see for yourself if you are looking for a good spot in Soho London area!

We experienced the Chef's Counter tasting menu which was delicious, generous and innovative from the first morsel to the last: London tasting menus can be disappointingly blah but this one restored our faith in modern British cooking that stems from smart chefs taking traditional and street foods and twisting them to new heights! In the 14+ dishes we enjoyed whilst watching the lovely chefs work, there were no misses, only the greatest hits - some happy food dancing was admittedly done in our comfortable, large chairs! And service at Bahli Hill is also brilliant, everyone was so friendly, knowledgeable and so efficient, yet we were not hurried in any way. This is a meal worth investing in - GO ALREADY!!

In a word; FABULOUS This was a surprise birthday meal for my wife with her daughter and friends, and it exceeded expectations Thank you so much for taking such great care of us, for amazing food, friendly service and adding to a wonderful evening of celebrations

We just had the pleasure of dining at this establishment (4th time in restaurant but 1st time at Chef’s counter). Chef was not only incredibly talented but also remarkably friendly, making the meal even more enjoyable. The authenticity and deliciousness of the food left a lasting impression. Each dish was a culinary masterpiece, and the attention to detail in every bite was evident. Moreover, Francis, the cocktail maestro, added an extra layer of excellence to the evening. His delightful personality shone through as he recommended and explained the intricacies of the cocktails. It made us feel special and at home. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants an exceptional dining experience with a personable chef and a cocktail expert who knows how to make your night truly memorable. This place goes above and beyond in delivering both delicious food and outstanding service.

We have been wanting to try Chef Avi’s food since he took Papri Chaat to the GBM banquet. On our recent trip to London, we finally got the opportunity. My husband and I went for the Chef’s Counter experience, to be able to taste an array of mouthwatering dishes. It was the best decision. And it was excellent value for money. We reached a bit early so we had time for a long chat with Avi. He was warm, friendly, relaxed and chatty, which immediately set the tone for the rest of the evening. The kitchen and serving staff were equally warm and welcoming. It was great to see two female chefs in the busy kitchen. The manager, Francis, who took care of our drinks during the evening went over and beyond, making us feel really special. The interaction throughout the evening was effortless and easy. Not rehearsed, robotic or formal. The restaurant was busy and buzzing, which only enhanced the experience. Our food journey itself was a taste trail across India. The flavours were eclectic, drawn from regional Indian kitchens. The balance of spices made every dish sing, and the quality of the produce shone through. It was wonderful to have Avi explain the spices, flavours, techniques as well as the inspiration behind each dish. It made everything all the more enjoyable. We can’t pick any favourites because we loved them all.
