We visiting as a couple for a lovely evening meal. My partners arrived cold and they kindly sorted and took away and replaced with a warm meal. Not sure if this was rewarmed or cooked fresh however satisfied and tasted great. However a few hours after returning back home my partner experienced diarrhoea and was up throughout the night with it. I can see that some people have experienced cold food before. Obviously we can’t prove it was the meal that upset his stomach however it seems to stem to it after only having toast all day only and not having any good intolerances. We just hope this wasn’t a revenge food rewarm off the restaurant.

Stayed at The Packhorse inn. Is expensive for what it was. Dirty room when we arrived but was changed so not a huge problem. Dinner was again ok. Breakfast my wife had to send hers back to the eggs being undercooked and expected for a £250+ stay. Car parking for people staying was also non existent as the car park was full so had to park quite away from the place. Also when trying to sleep a dog had been left and barked into the night thus not getting sleep. Service at breakfast wasn’t great.

Had bad service and food the last time we came, so this is after a very long gap, and sadly, the same again. As it was a wedding anniversary, we had a glass of champagne, Over £12 a glass, and only half filled. The starter , a smoked haddock fishcake, was served on a slap-cold plated was tepid at best. The main , a linguine, came with the pasta overcooked and soggy and was tasteless. I asked for a slice of bread, and was told the only bread available was the focaccia with olives and dips, so had to order that. even though we didn't want the olives or dips. The waiter asked if we wanted to see the desert menu, but after 20 minutes still had not brought it, so we asked for the bill and left. We won't be coming back.

I have been coming for years and since the reopen I haven’t had the greatest experiences, but this time I had to make an account to let chestnut know they seem to have finally got it right the manager/maitre de had complete control and vision of what was going on in the restaurant and staff and was very welcoming and took time to speak to each table. It was a great experience, great food and we hope that this young man stays at the packhorse inn for the long run. Thank you Joshua and all the team that gave us this experience

Service from the staff was OK, they forgot our drinks and we had to ask for them again, the food, the starters were as usual amazing very well presented and tasted excellent. The Sunday lunch was average, the presentation was again very good, but only two small slices of beef, we asked for pink but it was very well overcooked ☹ The roast potatoes were very anaemic. My main course was a total let down, I ordered the Gnocchi, sun blushed tomatoes, Pesto, Black Olive Crumb, Tomato sauce and Parmesan, what I got was very thick Gnocchi drowned in a watery tomato sauce with a sprinkle of Parmesan and spinach, no sigh of pesto or black Olive Crumb, it was also not very hot at all. If I had not been someone guest I would have sent it back, but I had to wade through it. Desert was again very good. We have booked for Christmas day, and I am now very worried that it was the wrong choice. Considering this is your flagship Restaurant I really think you need to have a look at the food that’s being served, I do think that I am not the only one thinks that it’s poor as the whole place was very quiet with a lot of empty tables. Such a shame as we loved the Pack Horse Inn and have recommended it to lots of our Friends.

Locale carino e cibo eccellente.

We arrived at the Pack horse for lunch on 12th August, we hadn't made a reservation and were warmly greeted by a member of the team. It was an extremely hot day and we had arrived prior to the opening time, however we were offered a table which allowed us to get ourselves and our dog away from the hot weather. We had an enjoyable meal, the food and service were both excellent. We were impressed with the venue and asked to view some of the rooms. We travel around the UK frequently and are always keen to book dog friendly establishments . We cancelled our last night in Norfolk to spend a night at the Packhorse luckily we had a room in the new block lovely room with high end products. Service and food this time was patchy and I got the feeling it's in a transition period especially with staff and the improvements going on. Breakfast and the service was ok. It's got all the tools to be high end whether it can deliver consistently is another matter some staff better than others but there is no excuses for no check backs ,knowledge of the menu and the chefs cooking the meats correctly ...Couldn't be more dog friendly and feel its priced fairly throughout. Will return with fingers crossed.

Beautiful pub situated in the wonderful countryside in Moulton, Suffolk. We visited as part of our Newmarket Racing weekend and were not disappointed with the standard of the environment, quality of the food and beverages, ambiance and great service from the staff. Very, very poor rude, unfriendly service. We live locally and decided to try this expensive pub/hotel after hearing about the refurb. Upon arriving we was given a table in the empty restaurant. One of my party wanted a large vodka and tonic and the bar girl tried to put it in a half pint lager glass, my friend said can he have it in a bowl glass where you can put lots of ice in and the whole drink. The girl said we do not have those type of glasses which is utterly ridiculous for a place this size. So he had to drink a large vodka in a wine glass. We sat down and was given menus there is very, very little to choose from with just 4 main dishes plus £75 steak. There is no salmon (come on everyone has salmon on the menu) no sausage and mash or generally lunchtime things you would eat. The menu is basically dreadful. We ordered anyway and found the food very basic and very small portions especially the cod. The mediterranean looking woman serving doesn't smile has no personality and is very rude. The radiator was on full blast and very hot next to us their heating bill must be massive, in the toliets it was like a sauna. We will not be back and strongly recommend the management give the staff some friendliness training and also add more choice on the expensive menu !

Booked in early March for dinner in the newly revamped restaurant, arrived and was shown to our table .in the back room, which was dingy and poorly lit, ordered drinks, shortly after ordered food. Starter came but we were still waiting for our drinks.which eventually came . Some 50 minuets later as we were going to ask for the bill, our mains came, The food was nice, somebody said the meat was resting and was the reason for the delay. when asked why we not in the newly refurbished dining room he replied you are in the dining room and walked off which was very rude The young staff on duty were very helpful. the senior staff should should take note. Having lived in Moulton for 14 years , perhaps the local is not to visit again.

Having eaten at The Packhorse more than 10 times previously we were disappointed on this occasion. The food was fine, although my main course was warm rather than hot. The main problem was the service. There were plenty of staff and they were all charming. The problem was that they weren't effective; we had to ask for our starter plates to be cleared after 15 minutes of finishing our food. We then had to chase up our main courses after waiting half an hour after finishing our starters. Even then only 3 of 4 meals arrived together! The only niggle about the food is that there were no plain vegetable side dishes such as green beans, spinach etc. The service really tainted the meal and, for the first time, we were all disappointed by our experience.

We love going to the packhorse but on this occasion for Sunday lunch the standard was well below standard. The wife and I both ordered Beef but on this occasion the Beef was cut very thin and my wife’s Beef came with pieces of string in the meat and when I mentioned it to the waiter it was just ignored. I booked this lunch for my wife’s birthday and when booking online there is a question is this a special occasion or something like that so I did put wife’s birthday but she never even received a happy birthday so why ask the question when booking. Next to us was a table of 4 and when they left one of the waiters was rushing around like a headless chicken stumping around on the wooded floor slamming down the glasses and cutlery when setting up for the next sitting and the suddenly pulled the spare chair next to the wife away without saying excuse me or anything at all just grab it . He was running around so much and out of control he even fell over . When I asked for the bill I had my phone open with the chestnut app for the points to be added the waiter said I have to take your phone to scan it . When he returned he just returned with my phone and payment card machine no bill to check what I was paying for . I just paid and left and not very happy with my experience on this occasion.

Well, where do we even start?! My partner booked an overnight stay at The Packhorse Inn as a surprise treat for our first anniversary together. My partner booked the Better King and as stated on their website, the rooms are Parisian themed and as I love French & vintage style he thought this would be perfect for me. When we arrived, we were taken to our room and immediately my partner’s face dropped. You could see it just was not what he was expecting. We stayed in “Ouse” and it was dark, navy blue with checked bedding. This is not Parisian theme! After speaking with a lady on the phone, it transpired that we were staying in the correct room just that there website is extremely misleading! Not to worry we thought, we will still have a lovely night away. It then went from bad to worse. My partner opened the chest of drawers and the door handle came off clean in his hand. Paint was peeling off the walls in multiple places and with the walls being navy, it was very noticeable. The WiFi signal was so poor to the room that we couldn’t connect to our phones or Netflix on the television. There is also no phone signal either. We then noticed that part of the duvet was coming out the cover and the duvet had blood on it!!! The blood was faded so it had obviously been washed but it’s not really what you want to see. Especially when the room has cost you over £200 a night. I then went to get ready for dinner and the shower was broken. Both the rainfall head and the smaller head so I was completely unable to shower. It was at this point that we decided to complain and enough was enough. We aren’t people to usually complain but this was an absolute joke. We spoke with the manager who was really friendly and helpful. He explained that he may possibly be able to move us but the only room they had was another room upstairs with a broken bed!! As you can imagine, the picture that this place was painting wasn’t a great one and our impressions were dwindling. He then gave us a drink at the bar and went to investigate the room. He fixed the small shower head and off we went back to get ready for dinner. We had wasted about 2-3 hours at this point. We had dinner and thankfully, it was amazing. We had Camembert and steak and really really enjoyed it. We also had a complimentary glass of Prosecco which was very much enjoyed. The manager also paid for our dinner as a goodwill gesture and we were also very grateful for this. However, we had no qualms paying for dinner as this was well worth every penny and was delicious. Also, minor detail… I know the place allows dogs but not everyone wants to be eating an upmarket meal in an enclosed space with a hairy German shepherd! It just seemed abit bizarre to us that a place like that let dogs in the evening. Seemed very strange. We left the next morning still feeling really deflated purely because it just wasn’t the treat that my partner had hoped. We have stayed in other places (notably The Dial House) for the same amount of money and the two places aren’t even comparable. We then decided that we still felt disappointed so we reached out to the manager to express our feelings. He was so helpful as before and offered us a free stay at the hotel as an apology. We were so pleased with this and offered some dates we could come. This was at the end of November and we haven’t heard a peep. I then chased last week and haven’t heard anything. So it has left no choice but to leave this very out of character review and warn others that you might want to think again before booking. It’s such a shame because it’s a lovely place in a lovely setting but we felt so disappointed and the fact that no one has even bothered to get back to us via email has left a really bad taste. Such a shame because they could’ve handled this so much better! I have never ever complained before like this. I personally don’t like the confrontation but I feel that this can’t be left and people need to know.

I visited on a Monday evening as part of a group(being treated). I'd heard lots about the quality of the establishment, but never eaten here. It's a very stylish interior layout, and the staff were very efficient and polite. I was frankly underwhelmed by the food, sadly. I didn't class it as "hands up for a waitress" underwhelming, but my soup was tepid, and my medium rare sirloin was very ordinary. I"m pleased i wasn't paying the bill. I just expected better quality on reputation. Perhaps they've lost sight of doing the simple things well.

We booked for a special occasion for lunch. Staff friendly on arrival. The food was amazing. However we felt a little disappointed that we had to ask for menus and go up and find someone to take out orders. Whilst not the fault of the staff, rowdy drinkers swearing every other word was intrusive and other diners in our area felt the same. Food amazing however atmosphere and service (which may be a one off) would make me think about returning and paying the extra

This pub is smart as you roll up, set against an ancient packhorse bridge which still stands on the road next door. We were shown to a small table in the corner of a nicely decorated, but noisy restaurant (hard floors, so sound carries) where they pack a lot of tables in. The menu was fairly limited by has enough choice, we went for ham, egg and chips ... you can't go wrong with that. Service was polite from our busy waitress. When our meal arrived it comprised oven-ready thin chips, 2 fried eggs and a couple of pieces of very thin, dark brown roast pork, half of which was pure fat. The meat appeared to be left over from a previous roast carvery service. We called the waitress over and told her this was not ham or gammon or anything like the advertised dish. She simply shrugged and said "noted". To me, this is so unprofessional ... if the ingredients are not available for a dish the restaurant should have been honest and told us and we'd have chosen something else. When we complained straightaway, nothing was done to put the error right. We were still charged £14 each for these well-below-par dishes. As I'd recommended this place to my friend, it was all rather embarrassing. The leadership team clearly do not care about great customer service or they would check training of team members in providing incident resolution when thing go wrong. So I advise you to spend your hard earnt cash elsewhere.

We ooked a Sunday lunch here as we had found the place by chance and had enjoyed a glass of wine in the sun a few weeks before. When we arrived it was very busy and as we were a little bit early we had a drink at the bar. Our table was made ready and we were taken to it, by the window and very draughty. There was a huge stuffed boars head on the wall to the side of me and although I’m not a Vegan I found it quite offensive with all its hairiness and teeth on show!I asked to be moved and the waitress was very understanding and helpful. The menu arrived and it was quite limited to a beef or pork roast or chicken romanesco, a smoked and crispy haddock or vegan risotto. We both ordered the pork loin and my husband had a terrine starter which arrived with just a chutney and no bread etc.The mains were literally piled high but not in a good wayand my Yorkshire just rolled onto the table after the plate was put down. The pork was nice but at least half of it was fat and the carrots were heavily glazed with a very sweet dressing. A few very small and overly roasted potatoes, two broccoli florets, red cabbage and a weird purée completed the meal.We ordered one sweet, a brown sugar pannacotta which was covered in a very sweet cherry gel? slices of fig and muesli… not great. Our bill came to £76.65 and the best thing about the place was the service. I didn’t complain as there wasn’t really one thing that wasn’t ok just quite a lot to pay for aSunday roast that wasn’t really that nice.Shame as the place is lovely and obviously popular with locals. Could do better!

Three of us enjoyed the very tasty and nicely presented starters, mains and deserts. Staff ensured that we were well looked after.Unfortunately, our experience was dampened by two factors: the chairs need to be repaired or replaced without delay since they are worn to such an extent that they are very uncomfortable; we even moved to another table thinking that the chairs there would be better. Alas, they were only marginally better. The other very negative aspect was the fact that the surfaces of both tables were sticky to the touch. Either do a better job of cleaning them or use table cloths.

My friends discovered this gem because where we had booked for lunch cancelled due to staffing problems due to COVID-19. I have to say we were so pleased this happened because The Packhorse 8nn was fabulous. All the staff were so friendly and professional regardless of whether they were obviously more senior or junior staff. The food was delicious and the menu varied. I had an Espresso Martini for dessert but asked if they had any chocolates I could have with it. Our waiter, but he was obviously a more senior member of the team said no but he then obviously mentioned my request to the chef. I thought no more about it, then was wonderfully surprised when I was served a delicious mini chocolate dessert. That is what I call wonderful service.. We meet our friends twice a year at the same venue convenient to us both (we don't live near each other) We are delighted to have found the Packhorse Inn which has become our new venue. I think this may be the only positive outcome to the affects of Covid-19!!

We had a wonderful evening at the Packhorse Inn. The food was delicious. We both had chicken in ras el hanout, with broccoli in honey, it was really good quality meat and the flavours in the dish were well balanced flavours. I had a brownie, and as the main component of the dessert, it seemed irrelevant - it was garnished with so many tasty toppings - peanut butter ice cream, a dark chocolate mousse, meringue and honeycomb. The Inn offered a large wine list, and we enjoyed a Norfolk white that was incredibly good. We felt really welcomed. The service was friendly and attentive, but not excessive. I left feeling relaxed, and that we'd had an all round fantastic evening. A big thank you to all the staff.

The bloke on the phone when ordering the food was so lovely, as was the man who brought the food to the car and put it in the car for us! We ordered the duck starter, pork belly and chicken main and sticky toffee pudding for dessert and it was all perfect. The best takeaway we’ve had and my other half says it’s the best food he’s ever had! It was an hour round trip but the food was still warm and delicious. We can’t wait to revisit when you’re open indoors!

Found the Packhorse after a quick Google search for the best pubs in Suffolk and it did not disappoint in any way. The interior is stylish and understated and the food was beyond sensational. My partner had the duck and I had the celeriac steak - as a veggie one of the best restaurant meals I have ever had. And the shared puddings need a mention - the only criticism being slightly generous portions but they were sublime. We didn’t stay but wished we had - the rooms looked lovely. Received the sad news re going into Tier 4 whilst we were dining - we do hope to return and wish all the staff well. A lovely lunch in every respect.

beautiful food, welcoming atmosphere. Would have been five stars but for some reason the advertised seasonal menu wasn't available. Nevertheless, the food choices were still extensive and all of us enjoyed our meal greatly. Genuinely dog friendly too.

The Packhorse Inn is a fantastic restaurant! We turned up last night for a birthday meal and I had, mistakenly, booked a reservation for another restaurant with the same name! They managed to squeeze us in, despite being fully booked, and even bought out a surprise birthday pudding. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and did all they could to fit us in and make us feel at home. The food was delicious and the wine was amazing! We will definitely being going back to the Packhorse Inn as soon as lockdown is over!

Monday afternoon, looking for somewhere nice and dog friendly to eat a late lunch. Packhorse Inn came recommended, and didn’t disappoint. Menu was just a “grazing menu” given the time of day. But wow. I had a baked Camembert, with delicious Apple Brandy chutney, and my wife’s charcuterie plate was immense. I suspect we could have shared, but we were hungry and it hit the spot. The restaurant was quiet as you might expect for the time and day, but the staff were all attentive and I don’t think our dog had been provided with so many treats in one sitting for quite some time. Dogs accepted happily indoors and provided with a water bowl as well. It was a “find” and when we are next that way we will certainly look to go back.

We have found this the most welcoming, room beautiful, and I am fussy, lovely bathroom with all good quality shampoo and conditioner, and lovely towels, good quality. And max was a great host, food was the best ever.... Sunday roast was amazing, literally like home. Just love this place I urge anyone to go here, really special. Lovely staff and food

We enjoyed the location of the pub and had a nice walk around the village. Dinner was good and our bedroom was spacious but with a couple of problems. First the internet access was very weak - the bedroom (No. 2) is across the courtyard from the main hotel and I would have thought that an added router could solve the problem without much expense. The other niggle was that none of the windows opened and there was no air conditioning. They had provided a fan but that just moves around warm air. If we stay again at The Packhorse we would make sure we chose a different room.

The Packhorse Inn have the most impressive professional team working together in all areas creating a very special few days for us. Everything was above anything I have experienced this year and I have nothing but praise for the quality of the room and everything in the room, the lovely welcoming atmosphere, breakfasts and dinner. The menu is imaginative and everything served is presented beautifully. The wine list is interesting and it is obvious that the staff are highly experienced in serving with flair. This is our first break since lockdown and everyone was complying with the current situation admirably. Atmosphere throughout our 4 days was safe, calm and enjoyable.

Really nice stay this weekend, explored the local area which has good walking/running routes and easy access to Newmarket and the gallopsThe room was lovely with a big bath which was great to relax in as was the bed, only criticism of the room is they could do with adding a fridge and a better tv!We had an evening meal and breakfast there and the food was really good, especially the deserts which were exceptional and it was a nice breakfast. The service was pretty slow especially for silly things like ketchup but everyone was pleasant enough. It was our anniversary which I made a point of mentioning on the booking and so I was disappointed no acknowledgement of this was made at dinner, with happy anniversary on the plate or some other nod, which you normally get in somewhere as nice as this. Although they were happy to let us check our a bit later when I asked. Overall its a great location and venue - just a few tweaks needed. They dealt with COVID restrictions well on the whole with contactless check in

We couldn’t wait to re-visit The Packhorse after lockdown as it has long been one of our favourite restaurants. We were there for dinner on it’s re-opening night and were not disappointed. Things were obviously a bit different, with a one way system and less waiter/customer interaction, but it managed to be welcoming and the food was as good as ever. Unfortunately it is rather a long distance for us, but we will hope to be back soon.

I cannot praise this Sunday lunch experience enough! From arrival we were warmly greeted by Stuart the manager and made to feel so welcome even though the whole place was full. Ambiance was great with a lovely warm friendly atmosphere. After being shown to our table service was swift with menus and drinks by our young waiting staff. Our dog “nimshi” was also well catered for. The menu had great choices-I liked the fact that you could just have one course if that’s all you wanted. We chose slow roast lamb and sea bream fillet-both were superb and cooked to perfection-we had never seen a Yorkshire pudding so big!, and the roast vegetables were named on the menu and both quirky and delicious.Dessert was a sticky toffee pudding which was first class. Wines were at a reasonable price and a nice selection of beer.I cannot fault this lunch and many thanks to Stuart and his young excellent team of service staff and of course his great chef and kitchen team.We will return!!

We have met friends from Suffolk here numerous times as it is equidistant between our homes and it has always been exceptionally good. Unfortunately today was not the same. The ambiance is always superb as is the service. The starters were all excellent but the main courses were really disappointing. 2 of our party had roast pork which was reminiscent of school meals: uniform slices of fatty, tasteless meat. One of our party had the roast cod which was rather small, uninteresting and accompanied by 3 large spring onions which were tough and stringy but no additional vegetables. The wine by the glass was delicious and reasonably priced.

On arrival staff very pleased to see us, found us a table as we had not booked in the window overlooking the garden. Drinks and food order taken, and we didn’t have to wait long before the complimentary bread arrived. And so so delicious. I ordered the burger, wow so tasty. My husband the salmon, and my sister In Law the scampi. All meals just perfect. Love the ambiance of this restaurant, very informal, friendly, and nothing is too much trouble.

After not being called to tell us the bath (and prime reason for booking the room) could not be used we were then offered our booking (which had been paid in full) to be transferred to another hotel with the difference covered as a goodwill gesture. This would have been fine if they had honored transferring the booking and the hotel being paid for. Instead we got a bill for over £300 and the packhorse would not honour their part of it. They then said we had to wait for a refund from the booking sight as they had cancelled the booking with them. As we had not received a cancellation email from them I highly doubt this was the case and would leave us out of pocket by nearly £500. The staff were unhelpful and unfriendly and the service awful. I'm not sure where they get their 5 stars from as it's clearly not in being honest or helpful. I am 7 months pregnant and this was an anniversary treat so I really did not need the stress or upset caused by the manager who went back on what he had said the night before.

We stayed overnight at Packhorse Inn. We found it on the internet as one of the best dog friendly hotels in our area. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Got lovely room suitable for a dog which let us take the dog out without going thorough the hotel and lead straight outside which is always super handy when you have your furry friend with you. Beautiful surroundings which are perfect for dog walkers. We booked a table at the restaurant forevening meal, both starters and mains (we both had a roast) were exceptional. We were served by super nice waitress Gabi. Breakfast of choice was included in our rate and also was delicious. We had cooked breakfast, yogurts and croissants were served before cooked breakfast which was a great touch. Delicious coffee and fresh juice. The hotel is just outside Newmarket if you fancy town more then village walks.

We stopped here for lunch yesterday because we had read that it was dog friendly. It’s a lovely place in a gorgeous Suffolk village. We decided on the set menu which was excellent value for money at £19 for three course and included homemade bread before the starter arrived. The food was delicious. Our Standard Poodle was also treated well with a fresh bowl of water and some biscuits. The staff were lovely. My only criticism is that there was only one ale available on tap which was fairly dark and not to my partners taste.

First visit. Very very busy but our reservation table was there ready and waiting. Very quick drink service. Delicious menu choices. As it was busy the order took a while to be taken. Friendly people work here. Starters were terrific, pate, sardines (filleted) and smoked duck breast with walnuts and pomegranate. Delicious. Roast pork was fantastic and crackling perfect. Wonderful fresh vegetables, carrots , parsnips, kale, and possible squash and carrot purée? And also cauliflower cheese. The only disappointment was the roast potatoes not hot enough and needed to be seasoned and crisper . Cheese board excellent and chocolate brownie to die for.

Contrary to their claim in their publicity, the Packhorse Inn is by no means a "traditional pub". The whole interior has been reworked with a lot of thought and style. My husband and myself went to the packhorse to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We have been loads of times and had no problem. This time however I had the chicken main meal and I was not very happy with it. It was like rubber and didn't look like a chicken breast. The service was fantastic as usual and could not be faulted. The soup was lovely it was just the chicken which was rather upsetting as we have enjoyed many a meal here.

Oh dear, somewhat surprised by all of the rave reviews. The food was fine, no problems at all, lovely scampi and chips for lunch, really very nice and obviously freshly homemade but that is what you expect if you are paying a little more. I was very underwhelmed by the service...definately service without a smile. Disapointing, felt like they were doing us a huge favour really. I usually leave a tip for service but as a matter of principle wasn't going to on this occasion....however, after paying cash, I waited for the change and waited, and waited and in the end had to go and ask for it. It was asumed it was a tip which I thought was a bit rude. Perhaps it was an 'off' day as all of the other reviews are great so I don't want to put people off but I won't be returning, that's all.

We stayed here for two nights and the purpose of our visit was reminiscent of “ long lost family” as it was the venue for a family reunion. Most of the wonderful staff were aware of this especially Ali and Max who were such a huge help and it is partly down to them that it was such a success. On our first night before the big day we were served by our waitress Anna with whom we shared a private joke involving a car fire and water ! The room we had was beautiful, the food was delicious and all the staff so very friendly and helpful, can thoroughly recommend it. The only thing I would suggest is that although they supply blankets in the beer garden for the cooler summer evenings it would increase the bar sitting area if there were patio heaters. Overall a fantastic experience.

We found this pub by chance and finding that it was dog friendly we decided to stop for a light lunch. We received a very warm welcome by the relatively new landlord (2 months) who spoilt our dog with treats. The waiting staff were very attentive and friendly and there was a good choice of beers and food. We opted for a portion of breaded prawns and a portion of chips to share. We are naturally chatty people and enjoyed talking to the landlord and sharing some stories. After we had finished eating a group of 8 local farriers (well it was close to Newmarket) came in and we started chatting to them as well. What a great atmosphere and we could have stayed all afternoon but had to get to our next port of call by 4.00pm. The chef also came out to join in the conversations which added to the warm, welcoming feeling. We would thoroughly recommend a visit to this lovely pub and ensure that the new landlord has success in his new venture. We need more pubs like this one.

What we had was good, however, according to the Blackboard the meat was Beef, Chicken, or Gammon. Unless you are known to Chef, after we had eaten he came and offered two guests LAMB.. I will attach a picture of our ‘Large’ portions. That is unless you are known to chef, then your portion is considerably larger. Note, the small flat piece of Yorkshire pudding, or at least I think that’s what it is supposed to be. Four, yes four sprouts, I actually asked our lovely waitress if she were sure that these were large portions. Note one slice of parsnip, one slice of sweet potato, that mushed up white stuff is cauliflower cheese and sloppy broccoli. I made my issues known, it’s simply not good enough to give preferential treatment to regulars, unfortunately we are local and were just out for a Sunday lunch. Like I said what we had was nice, and graciously and politely served, but if you know chef you will get larger, large portions. Don’t go here if you don’t know chef.
