We’ve eaten at The Packhorse three times in the last six weeks and each meal has been superb.

Having read the reviews we booked for lunch after a Spring drive in the Peak District. There is roadside parking but, having restricted mobility, this was a disadvantage. We received a warm welcome, were shown to our table, good job we booked, and ordered drinks and food. This was outstandingly good; lamb and duck, both perfectly cooked and served pink were well worth the short wait. Compared to he main courses the sweets were not in the same category; my Bakewell pudding, served with good hot custard was lukewarm and were overpriced. There was only one member of staff greeting customers, serving drinks, taking orders and settling accounts which led to irritating delays Only other problem is that attention needs to be given to the toilets which were not as clean or well maintained as they could be.

Stones Restaurant

12/03/2019: We have visited on numerous occasions including visits with friends & family with lots of praise.
15/04/2019: We visited Stones again recently for lunch with friends and enjoyed another superb meal. The hosting and service are always impeccable, with a lovely balance between friendly and efficient, for which the young staff deserve great credit - they have obviously been well-trained! The quality of the food throughout the meal was of the highest standard, all beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. This is now our "go to" restaurant for a leisurely lunch with friends or family and we look forward to our next visit some time soon. In the meantime, we have booked to dine at the newly opened Bluebell at South Wingfield to experience the Stones effect at the new place - I'm sure we won't be disappointed! We cannot recommend Stones highly enough - if you live within reach or are visiting the Derbyshire area, it is well worth a visit.

15/05/2019: Probably the best restaurant in the area, high quality food, service was ok but needs a little work to make you feel wanted. The room is well designed and I would definitely go again
17/05/2019: Hidden away south of Ashbourne, down a lane, behind a pub - you'd never find it by chance. But do seek it out. The fixed 8 course tasting menu - a bargain at £60 per head, is inventive yet comforting. We loved the first three small courses, inspired by American diner food. Then a veggie course then fish and then a stunning take on a curry which was the highlight.
