Popped by (intentionally) for a pint on a wet afternoon after previously calling in for a drink on a walk. Love everything about this place. Cosy atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious beer. Need to get booked in for a meal. The menu looked great.

Pre ordered meals, unfortunately they didn't have what we ordered. Even though we ordered a week earlier no mention of this until we turned up. Having travelled from Bristol we were hardly going to walk away. Communication is key.

Absolutely loved this place, very busy too which has got to be due to it's success. Beer garden is nice too! Food menu is one of those that you don't know what to eat as everything looks good - carers for allergies too, it tastes good too. Some local beers served and also walking distance to monsal trail.

We didn't even get to eat at the Packhorse because my other half was poorly (first day without the kids in a LONG time as well) and we had to cancel earlier today, but the lady who took my cancellation over the phone was so genuinely sorry to hear we couldn't make it, that I felt this deserved a review all by itself, as a shining example of warmth and great customer service! I was really impressed and quite touched :-) See you on the other side!

A fantastic find in the Peak District. We went for a drink at lunchtime in the middle of our walk - nice beer. Dog friendly, perfect in every way.

We made a booking and still got seated at a very small table with uncomfortable seats by the door next to the cold and next to a constant queue of customers standing next to us. For a pescatarian there are not many options apart from haddock. I ended up asking for a starter and side salad which, to our surprise, was a bowl of peppers, pickles and cucumber (all the stuff I don't like, lucky me) and almost no greens. No one told us before what was on that "salad" and I couldn't eat much of it. One of us ordered lamb and it was hard to cut and chewy. This dish was very pricey for its quality. Another one of us ordered the pasta (Ragu) with beef and truffle and it was undercooked and sticked together. We couldn't find any truffles or even their taste. Following all this we didn't want to risk spending money in deserts and I left the pub still feeling hungry. I think the pub could benefit from improving the layout to allow for more comfort and weather protection, and from communicating better what's on the menu, if they want to be creative with side salads, for example. Also maybe add more pescatarian options. Nice ones, not just white fish... Would also be nice to have some water available for dogs. The staff was very nice but we'll not return there.

A lovely pub to stop after a walk in the peaks. The food was lovely and the staff were nice. We spent just over 60 quid for 2 mains, deserts, coffee and beers. We had the sausage and mash which was lovely and the veggie Sunday roast. We would definitely recommend both again. For dessert the poached pear was our favourite and the lemon tart came in a close second. The only minor comment is the beer came with a huge head but no big deal! I would definitely come back again. It's also dog friendly.

I always enjoyed the Packhorse Inn whenever I'm in the area. It's a lovely traditional pub with serving the ever-excellent Thornbridge beers. Proper fireplaces make it nice and cozy on a cold day, whilst the garden at the rear is a great place to relax in the sunshine. Hikers and dog walkers are welcome. The food is imaginative and delicious, with a menu that changes each month or so. There are usually some traditional favourites such as local sausages with mash or sirloin streak with chips, but you can get more adventurous with confit rabbit & pancetta pappardelle, or rosemary lamb chop with polenta cake and courgette. We recently booked the covered area in the garden for a family reunion of 25 people, so I have to thank and congratulate Vicki and the team for looking after us so well. Communication before the event was excellent, allowing us to choose from the menu well in advance. The weather that evening was foul, but the staff were undaunted, cheerfully keeping the food and drinks coming in a steady flow despite having to brave the rainy skies between kitchen and dining area. Everyone had a great time, and complimented the chef. I don't hesitate in recommending this pub to anybody.
