Probably the best chippy in the world. Excellent portion sizes. Always cooked to perfection. Nice friendly staff and the owner is spot on and always happy to have a crack with the customers. Highly recommend.

The staff were talking about the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special when I was there last night. It's always a nice feeling seeing members of staff excited about things! Service was great, too. I only got a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, but it was delicious! I live in Matson and Oxstalls Fryer is 10x better than my local.

Really love this fish and chip shop. The service is friendly and they are my favourite chips anywhere.

First time trying this chippy since moving to area.Honest review...fish was great crispy with white and flakey cod but chips.....horrid. very soft with heavy fat taste. Some with black spots in potato and un-even shape.just didn't taste nice

The first time I have been to the oxstalls lane fryer my wife's brother stevie always use that one. And we took are food back to his place and ate it 😋 very enjoyable the chips 🍟 were lovely and so were the sausages 😋 Unfortunately I never took a photo 📸 of my meal like I normally do.

Have used them for years , but hubby came home this evening with the smallest portion of ‘large’ chips ever! Usually a large portion will easily feed three, but there was barely enough to cover the bottom of one plate! A lot of new serving staff recently which might be the reason, but will unfortunately be giving it a miss in the future.

Emergency chippy call from brass band, what a fella behind the chips, accommodated a large group very well and gave a reasonable price for what we ordered, would definitely recommend if large groups in the area 👍

Had this delivered on Monday, and have had an upset stomach all week since. The food was nothing special, the chips were poor, and they can’t seem to batter things right. And the delivery driver they employ was very strange - just stared and didn’t want to give the order over to me. Don’t think I will come here again

Good quality Fish & Chips, happy to recommend, just wished they closed a little later than 9pm (as often closed/closing as I get there after work).

This is certainly the best fish and chips in our area! We did a little survey of all the local chippies and marked them out of ten and the Oxstalls Fryer was the only one with full marks for fish and chips with mushy peas and curry sauce. Definitely recommended!!!

Born and bred in Gloucester, I know all the fish n chip shops, the best one ever was Wellington street, Oxstalls Fryer is the best current one. It’s main rival is Ruddies but they more slightly more expensive, smaller portions and less tasty.

It's a good chip shop & busy at tea time which is to be expected.

Possibly the best Fish & Chips in Gloucester; great service with the option to order and pay online. Staff always friendly on entering, would honestly recommend them.

It turns out this chippy is run by a misogynistic bigot. When I moved to the area a few months ago I discovered this place and have visited regularly since. Unfortunately today as a customer waiting for my order I had to witness, what appeared to be, an unnecessary dressing down of a female member of staff. She was called stupid in front of at least 8 customers at the time, compared to the male members of staff and told she was wrong with no facts of the event at the time (it's was actually the male who made the error with my order, but that seems irrelevant). This was all shouted across the shop without any obvious awareness of the audience. He then proceeded to justify his behaviour to the room, citing, "it's a man's world". When I pointed out that he wouldn't be on the planet without a woman he then launched into a critical tirade, gaslit me and implied I couldn't take a joke. This was prejudice and derogatory and embarrassing to witness and lasted several minutes. As I walked out of the shop with my order, he then mocked me to the remaining customers while I was still in earshot. I won't be handing my money over to this bigot again as I support the rights of all people to be treated respectfully in their places of work.

I've been meaning to visit this chip shop for years due to the many great reviews I've seen. Oh, dear! The worse chips in creation, a bag full of tiny little rubbish collected from the bottom of the serving tray over a week. I ordered a Cornish Pasty for a change, as my usual chip shop doesn't do these. What I received, as I discovered when home, was a Meat and Potato Pasty. Now I was disappointed enough with this but, no it gets worse. This was one of Pukka Pies best! A tasteless thick 'soup' sealed inside a thin greasy pastry. And... it appears I was overcharged although I can't see how, unless it was the Pukka Pies Pasty. AVOID!

Always well cooked food. The staff are warm and friendly and a credit to the place. I only go once a week but they always have my order ready on time and greet me with friendliness and courtesy.

I would like to say that this staff is very helpful, and I have been going to Oxstalls Lane Fryer for years and the Bo's is very helpful, and food is very good and the shop is very clean. My best regards Mr C Benzey

This Mother and son team haven’t got a clue how to cook a piece of cod. The fish is covered in way to much batter to hide the fact there’s a very small piece of fish inside. Ruddy’s fish is a million times better!

My saviour for the night! Deliveroo let me down big time from another place and lucky you were open and made up my order in such a quick time while having a good laugh. Food was delicious and I got it time while it was still nice and hot. Thank you!

Yummy food friendly helpful staff. I used to live around the corner, moved to the Cotswolds still drive down for the delicious food. You can place an order to collect local delivery too. Highly recommend

Picked the stepson up from Gloucester Train Station, and he bought us fish and chips. I must admit, I enjoyed them, they were hot, not covered in oil, grease, like some fish and chips you get, will definitely use them again if we are in the area.

The fish and chips were great but the 20/30 minutes wait was not good at all......

Went on a busy Friday night with queue out the door but the staff were friendly and efficient so we were served quickly. The chips were really tasty and the large portion certainly was large! Be warned: parking isn't great, especially when busy. The chips are worth it though.

I live local to the shop but since thay have been doing the delivery service i have saved a trip to the shop i dont drive so this service was a welcome bonus and the service has been top class never has my order been wrong cold or delivery drivers not being good at dropping the food off i can or fault this in any way all staff deserve recommended for the work thay do so a big pat on back from me for all ya done also a big thank you as ya saved me walking thank you all from the bottom of heart i have to give credits when deserved and this I hope me giveing back thanks to all xx take care all and pls do wot ya doing best cc

After reading all the great reviews I thought to give oxstalls lane fryer a go. Their online ordering system was great and my order was ready to collect within a minute of me arriving. However the food left a lot to be desired. The fish was overcooked, I could taste no vinegar on the chips despite ordering it and the curry sauce was bland. The burger and mushy peas were fairly good though.

Been going to Oxstalls Lane Fryer for years now and thought I'd write a review. Great service!! The staff are always really friendly and polite. The fish and chips are the best and the chicken nuggets are amazing as well, according to the kids. I don't think I've ever had a meal I wasn't happy with and there's not many places you can say that about. The Delivery service is great and always arrives earlier than expected. Thank you guys 😁
