What a great little cafe. Didn’t look much from the outside, in fact I didn’t realise there was a cafe above the shop. Had a Sausage & Bacon roll, wasn’t expecting much but when it arrived it had a very generous portion of sausage & bacon, just what was needed after a long morning walk. My friend had the Scrambled Egg, Avocado & Salmon on toast which also looked amazing. Friendly staff. I would visit again if in the area

Visited the Outside cafe today expecting the usual basic good food at a good price . However my scampi and chips meal was very poor . Not many scampi but a huge pile of rather soggy chips and a salad with half the lettuce yellow and wilted . Not what I expect having been a customer for more years than I care to mention . Very very disappointed . Good service and friendly staff just poor food today .

I visited with my boyfriend for lunch on Saturday. I ordered scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and avocado on toast. My boyfriend ordered scampi and chips which tasted satisfactory and looked quite appealing. My scrambled eggs were quite wet and made my toast go soggy. I had to leave most of the avocado as it was brown and mushy, and obviously gone off. The smoked salmon was lovely-probably because it came out of a packet. I patiently waited for someone to check we were enjoying our meals or even clear our plates before we left whilst I finished my coffee. They did not. Sorry for not bringing this to the attention of staff by going to the counter, but with orders constantly being taken and food being taken out to tables, there was little opportunity to complain. Hence leaving this review. I will definitely not return here to eat.

We visit this cafe regularly and always enjoy the food and relaxed atmosphere. The young staff provide efficient service and the food is great value- especially love the toasties and cakes for a quick lunch. Dogs are welcome on the balcony but we haven't decided yet whether we trust ours around so much sausage!

I arrived here in high spirits after a nice walk up to Stanage. I wanted to buy some beers but unfortunately they don't sell alcohol so I instead had a hot choccy with creamy cream and marshmelons. The 10 item full English was nice but the black pudding was a tad on the chewy side and one of the beans was rock hard like my pet rock rocky. Besides those two minor issues it was pretty nice you know. 10/10

Been here many of times for breakfast with friends and today I came alone with my dog before a walk. Every time Iv been, Iv had my dog so sat just at the top of the stairs as I always do. Today I couldn’t just leave her or she would follow me in to order or drag the table with her. Staff Told me that dogs arnt allowed in the main cafe that I was already aware of but there was nothing else I could do, what I told them, she’s only a small whippet and never any bother. they kept telling me I couldn’t bring her in but they couldn’t get in their simple heads I had no other option, and then insisted I picked her up for hygiene reasons but in doing so made her closer to the counter and all the food/cakes on the counter and till area. no common sense and clearly can’t think for themselves as they kept going to ask the boss.

After missing my station and getting off at Bamford I decided to walk to Hathersage which was really pleasant, I went to Outside lunch. I ordered their homemade chicken, leak and mushroom pie with chips, peas and salad. The service was fast and the server who also took my ordered always had a smile on her face and asked if I wanted anything else. The food was very fresh and full of taste and the serving was very generous. I followed my meal up with a large cup of tea and a free biscuit. I love the decor of the place - lots of photos of climbers, mountaineers and mountains. I would highly recommend Outside.

Spent a couple of hours on the 7th March in the afternoon in here after hiking Stanage Edge in some ropey conditions. Looked like really nice food so came back for breakfast on the 8th before heading back to London. Had the 10 piece breakfast and it was pukka!!! However I was sold on this cafe (and the amazing outdoor shop downstairs) by the picture of Alex Honnold having breakfast there, on the wall as you walk in. Any cafe good enough for the greatest ever climber is good enough for me.The quality of the food is very good, and it was pretty quick also in coming out. Reasonably priced considering the quality! The shop downstairs is all really high spec stuff and I dropped £200 on a new North Face jacket before I left, always the danger of having a really great walking shop below a really great cafe when you are a Walker, the bank account takes a hammering.Cant recommend this place enough. Would defo go back to Hathersage and this cafe / shop.

We first started using this cafe for Sunday breakfast many years ago, as at that time it was the only place in the Hope Valley that served breakfast. Then for whatever reason, probably because other venues started doing breakfast, we stopped using Outside. We have recently "rediscovered" this great cafe and have had a breakfast and sandwiches at lunchtime today. I had smoked salmon and cream cheese, which was excellent, with loads of cream cheese and salmon. Everything is very reasonable and we shall be renewing our acquaintance with Outside.

On my last day in Sheffield I took the train to Hathersage to look around and to visit the legendary Outside outdoor shop and cafe. The staff were/are friendly and helpful and even looked at the train times for me and another one helped me choose some postcards. The shop itself has a wide range of climbing gear including shoes. The cafe was busy but the lady serving there helped me find a table. As there was 1/2 hour wait for food I decided to have a Rocky Rhode cake, a cappuccino and a Belvoir drink. The cappuccino was first class and the cake was very soft and very fresh. If you are in Hathersage or nearby I would definitely go to Outside. I would highly recommend Outside.

Outside is a bit of a go-to place for walkers & climbers & the like in the area - great gear, knowledgeable staff, parking outside at the back, and a fine cafe upstairs. It's mostly classic cafe food with a few local specialities like Derbyshire oatcakes with various fillings, and generous side-salads with lots of the options. Portions are a decent size and it's all reasonably-priced. Service can be a bit on the slow side though when it's busy. Nonetheless a good and popular place to eat and one we continue to go back to.

We had lunch here today - not for the first time. Pretty full as usual (it's a popular spot for walkers and a good place to recover from the rigours of choosing yet more walking and climbing gear that you just have to have, as well as for seeking sustenance after a good walk...). We didn't have either excuse today so had to settle for just a Derbyhire oatcake each with Brie and mushrooms, served with a side salad and some home-made coleslaw. The food was great though service a bit slow. There are plenty of photos and paintings of mountain and climbing scenes on all the walls to stare at while you're waiting, though, which is fun. This is definitely somewhere to come if you're hungry though, with good-sized portions of well-cooked food, not too many pretensions, and hot drinks in decent-sized mugs not small cups. We have had problems with the young chef, who has been rude when they have run out of things and has also served normal bread and claimed that it was gluten free. When we looked at the packaging it was normal bread. They waiting staff can appear unprofessional at times, which to be honest has pushed us to visit other cafes.Very promising but the chef and staff let it down in my opinion. Let's start with why it didn't get an 'excellent' . . Did seem like some of the staff were maybe new and this uncertain particularly on the till. Also prices seem a little, and only a little on the high side. And now for the good stuff . . . Although the person serving us was having trouble with the till she was polite and friendly - apologising for her perceived slowness. We've all had to learn new skills and the manager was on hand to guide her so fair enough - we all need to learn the ropes sometime. The choice of availble dishes was brilliant. The ethics just as brilliant. Free range eggs, locally sourced meat from the village, Fairtrade tea and sugar.Quality of food can't praise it high enough, For what is primarily a cafe the qulaity is top notch. Fabulous, good sized home made burger, crispy, hot chips, nice side salad - clearly cooked to order and served with a smile. So OK - not the cheapest, not the Ritz - but good, honest food served by polite people in a clean environment. Will return for sure.

Not the fastest at serving, there are often long queues which shows its popularity, and the staff always make you feel as if you are an inconvenience, but after a day on the hills the food is good, big chunky cakes, mugs of tea with tea bag in it to dunk so you can have a builders brew if you want, they dont mind mud on the floors or rucksacks piled up.. not expensive and a great place to recover from your days excursions.

We're regular visitors and have left happy - until today.I ordered sausages on toast for my daughter - £3.00. It arrived - one small skinny sausage and one slice of toast. 'Is that all of it' she whispered to me. The 5 way breakfast I ordered was equally mean. Really - beans are relatively cheap a few more wouldn't hurt. We'll probably not bother again - which is a shame. because it means I won't visit the shop as often and there will be fewer impulse buys. That's how it works - the shop is great but you need to be consistent. I've come away disappointed and that can't be good for your business.

This place is great! We have only ever eaten breakfast here, but if that is anything to go by, then the rest of the menu will be delicious. The portions are generous, and the prices excellent. A great place. And you can take your well behaved dog too!

Having drove up to the peaks for a run I thought id grab a quick coffee before the long drive home. The outside shop is great but id never tried the cafe.Anyways long story short the older lady who served me not only was impolite she actually looked at me me with disdain in her eye. Very unprofessional and the kind of service that made you wish you had spent your money elsewhere.Im not sure if its because I was young, had visible tattoos perhaps or maybe it was my retro spectacles...I have no idea. But if you want to be made to feel awkward and like an unwelcome stranger...this is your place. Oh and the coffee was little more then half a cup to boot. Will not be going back. One to avoid!

I can only review breakfast as that's the only meal I have had here. You can get a ten item breakfast and a mug of tea for £7.50 approx. I forget exactly. Food is hot and cooked to order. I went twice - what can I say? If you're thirsty you can get a pint of tea. You can go in with boots on and rucksack and waterproofs. It is ideal for the walking and climbing types. Free 2 hours of wifi with a purchase.Other meals and veggie options are available.

Dropped in for breakfast with my husband and two young sons, on the Monday after Christmas. The staff on the counter were friendly and we ordered straight away. There were a few other customers but I would say the cafe was only about half full. I thought it seemed like a nice relaxed place. It took about half an hour for our breakfasts to arrive and the the baked beans were cold! My poor son who was having beans on toast!! I decided to eat my breakfast and leave the beans but my son's and husband's breakfast went back. Got an apology and told that "the ring must have gone out". My bacon was overdone and the sausage had sat on one side of the hot plate too long (crispy on the bottom) and when my husbands breakfast reappeared his egg was no longer runny and his bacon had disappeared. We won't be having breakfast here again when in Hathersage.

Only a short review for this cafe, as I visited quickly for a tea break whilst out with work.I've been a few times before and the tea & coffee options are OK. A few soft drinks and various snacks are also available. Drink prices are average for the area.If you need to warm up then pop in here - don't expect amazing service as it is just a small cafe!I'll use this place again for sure as it's in a handy location and the shop below is interesting.

We live a few miles from Hathersage and frequent this shop and cafe regularly. It is one of the best outdoor shops, and the location, building and situation naturally draws people in to the cafe. Here's the catch - people come here for this, not for quality food, drink and especially not the service. We've been countless times over the last 20 years and if all you want is a hot drink and a cake, there is little to go wrong - you'll get your food and drink in a reasonable time. However, think twice if you want food! Especially if you have small children like us a couple of days ago. After placing an order for soup, toasties and chips we then waited for **40 minutes** before the order arrived. This is not a one-off and has happened 5 times before over the last couple of years. I'm sure this cafe didn't used to be this bad. Indeed as a local I so want this place to be good, but am consistently embarrassed when bringing family and friends who are not from Sheffield / The Peaks. Here's a few suggestions for the owners: 1. Aim to get food out within 10-15 minutes maximum - if it's likely to take longer, please tell the customer before taking their money. 2. The staff look to be competent. If anything they look to be worked off their feet - my conclusion is you are not employing enough staff. Also, please try to train them in being less sullen. Perhaps this is linked to them being stressed... 3. £3 for a small cafetiere coffee (or £6 for a 2-cup) is a joke. And your cafetiere coffee isn't that good. Even cafes in London sell *real* espresso-based coffee for less then £3. Please drag your cafe kicking and screaming in to the 21st century and *buy an espresso machine* and sell proper espresso-based coffee at a price that isn't taking the Michael - it isn't difficult.

The café isn't terrible, but the food can at times be poor and we were effectively overcharged. The bean burger was clearly shop bought and possibly frozen, and just came in a dry white bap. No care taken.Further, the dish came with chips but they couldn't be served due to a fault with the fryer. So surely, the dish ought to have been discounted?

We used to visit this venue regularly- on first opening, the food & service were both pretty good, and it was a relaxing place to visit. We visited on a Saturday, early afternoon, and it was very busy. The wait at the counter was around 15 minutes to take an order, and then a 20 minute wait for the food to arrive. The serving counter clearly needed another pair of hands, but there was only one lad, doing his best but painfully slow, whilst other staff were giggling in the kitchen. The cafe had a number of tables which had not been cleared or cleaned, and no-one came out to do this whilst we were waiting. The fryers had broken, so no chips (and no jacket potatoes either). The milk jug on my table needed replenishment- I noticed there was not a jug on each table. When the food arrived, I was appalled. We had ordered tuna & cheese paninis. A small panini on each plate, rather pale- the bread was clearly a day or two old as it was dry, crunchy & nigh-on inedible. There was very little tuna, and the "cheese" was a processed slice. There was no side salad or other accompaniment, and the cost of this delicacy was just short of £4. If a salad garnish was required, that cost another £1.50. Totally depressing and a total rip-off.

Not for the first time my vegetarian sausages were burnt to a cinder here. The chips were ok but far from excellent. The lad with my wife and I says his bacon sarnie was great. The service was extremely slow, eg 20 minutes we waited for 5 people in front of us to be attended to, before we eventually got to order. My wife's toast with her fried egg, was burnt black just like my sausages..never again. The staff are young, slow and very inexperienced.

Looking for a quick bite to eat and decided to give it a go. Was busy but served quickly and a short wait for the food but was piping hot when brought out. Prices were good and a wide selection of food was available. Would recommend.

Charming Cafe it is. The coffee is very good. The photos of table laid with cutlery and napkins and lovely decor enticed us drive out to Monsal Head where we know the views are wonderful to have a light lunch. BUT We sat at a table and although the place was empty ( very rainy outside ) the staff didn’t acknowledge us, say hello even or explain it is counter service only. If you are expecting food, think again. No meals, No sandwiches, No baked potatoes or anything substantial, just a few cakes, savoury pies and sausage rolls Most disappointing. Wasted journey. WILL NOT VISIT AGAIN. Hassop Station nearby saved the day fortunately.

We were staying close by so popped in for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Service was a little slow initially and they did get my own order wrong, however the manager could not have been more apologetic so first class customer service. The food was lovely when it arrived and the coffee was great also.

great little bakery in the centre of wirksworth, spotlessly clean, and run by a friendly elderly couple, who make everything homemade. cakes, pastries, and homemade pies, and also coffeees, teas, and cold drinks.very reasonable prices, and just up the road from Wirksworth railway station. i always pop in for treats when i catch the train up from Duffield for the afternoon, recomended..! :-)

We recently stayed locally for two nights and ate at the Miner’s Arms both nights. Nic was so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious on the first night but on bonfire night, we ordered the greedy Greek platter on Nic’s recommendation and it was excellent! Delicious food, really dog friendly and very welcoming. We’ll be back!
