Ottoman Turkish Newcastle in Newcastle upon Tyne

We had a quick stop here before a show at the Utility Arena. We had no prior booking but managed to get a seat however it was packed. My partner had the Beyti and I had the mixed grill. Both dishes were quite tasty and as is the case with any Turkish chicken meant I’ve had, the meat was tender and tasty. However, I did think the mixed grill portion size could have been bigger.

The food was delicious. We had Kleftiko and a kebab. Both were lamb and cooked so well it melted in your mouth. Never tasted lamb so tender and so well trimmed that you did not feel you were eating fat. The mashed potato was creamy and smooth. The house white was very nice but a bit sweeter rather than dry. We ate before going to the Arena and it was ideally situated for a short walk back to the venue. We are looking forward to going back. Would recommend it to anyone who is interested in a varied authentic menu.

Food was OK but not as good as menu made it sound. We were the only ones in at first and the place was lacking atmosphere.

After reading so many good reviews this isn’t the review I was expecting to write. Food was tasteless, everything was under seasoned, just very bland. Unfortunately the quality of the meat wasn’t great either, it was obviously very cheap, the texture of the chicken was odd and the lamb didn’t taste fresh. Very disappointing, can’t understand why it’s rated so highly, wouldn’t go back.

Very nice food and central location

Made a reservation here for 6pm, but we were told a table wouldn't be available for at least another 20 minutes. Not a problem in itself, but the waiter's attitude was. When we explained we couldn't wait 20 minutes due to other plans later in the evening, his reply was simply: 'If you can't wait, then leave.' Why then even bother making a reservation, specifically to avoid this sort of problem? Food might be delicious (we'll never know). But I wouldn't try this place again if you payed me.

We ended up at this place after we viewed a car in Newcastle my Mrs ordered chicken and I got a mix platter food was absolutely amazing I loved the Adana the most the texture and flavour was just too good I would definitely come again the drive from West Yorkshire will be worth it.

First time at this restaurant and will not be going back. The staff looked unhappy the whole time we were there with not a smile between them. They were not interested in us and didn't bother to ask if the food was OK. As it happens it wasnt. The quality of the lamb was good but it was so bland. Both the shish and the perzola were plain with no indication of herbs or spices. My husband had sausage to start which he thought was just flavoured with salt and pepper and my mushrooms and peppers in a"special" sauce was just tomato. There was also no leeway with the carbs as they refused to swap the rice for potatoes. Very disappointed.

Six ladies of a certain age,4pm booking. Our hosts were charming and entertaining but not overpowering. The menu is so varied it has something to offer even the most fussy eater. The service was quick, the food was piping hot, beautifully presented and delicious. Portions are very generous so unfortunately we didn't get a chance to sample the dessert menu. Booking is essential as the restaurant filled up quickly with early evening diners but at no point were we rushed. The bill was very reasonable for a city centre and presented with a lovely Turkish sweet treat. There was no problem with us splitting the bill, 3 separate cards and the rest cash. Only point to note: at no time were we asked about any allergies so if you have any food allergies be sure to point them out

Food is just about acceptable, sort of things you could get from Heron. I did get takeaway from here once but certainly not worth paying restaurant prices. Also comes with free assault. The owner/ manager delights in assaulting LGBTQ+ individuals and animals, last time I visited, I politely requested the owner move his car from my private parking space as I had a disabled relative visiting as the owner liked to save money by illegally parking in private spaces, belonging to flats, behind the establishment . Murat Can (the owner/ manager) kindly responded to my request by assaulting me and my small dog and throwing us into the main road, nearly resulting in the death of my dog. I have witnessed him assault several individuals since and have recorded evidence of this on my phone. The restaurant also frequently indulges in fly-tipping so if you hate the environment, animals and the LGBTQ+ community, this is the place for you.

Great mixed grill from Ottoman, tasty and plentiful!

This restaurant was a short walk from the Crown Plaza hotel where we were staying. It is housed in a period building and has a well decorated interior. We both had lamb chops which cost £20.50. The chops were good quality and it came with rice and salad. The staff were pleasant. We enjoyed our evening.

We ordered Humus, Cacik, Pacanga Boregi, Chicken Shish, Turkish Bread, Turkish Coffee, and dessert Baklava. Food was amazing. Must visit.

Myself and my friends ate here tonight,the service and the food was superb. I had chicken dolma…. So good. I will be back. A must visit. Cheers guys.

I had a lot of food, in a short time while visiting Newcastle. This is the restaurant I will remember. Lamb meat balls appetizer, mixed grill main and baklava dessert, all rich with flavor proportioned just right. Ever heard the saying "leave them wanting more," well I did want more. I would have loved to try the rest of the menu. Thanks for a memorable dinner!

We popped in for something before a concert at the arena. They found my husband and myself a seat. Even when my brother and sister in-law joined us that was not even a problem. We were all seated and fed. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and polite. The ottoman is a place I would gladly eat at again. This is a gem of a place. If you like Persian food this is the place to go. The prices are reasonable. If your after a quick bite or a larger meal you must try here first. I will return here next time I'm out with my husband.

Always been pretty quiet when I've eaten there, but it has been a Friday Afternoon. None the less, the food is fab. An extensive menu, but they do a 'lunch time special' Waiters are always happy to help and very attentive... Definitely recommend 👍

All the usual Middle East choices, well presented, generous portions and very tasty. Friendly front of house.

Menu looked promising. Also aesthetics from out side and in. Had Pacenga to start and mixed shish kebab for main. Pacenga were bland. Main was nice with good flavour but portion size for the amount paid was poor. Smallest portion of rice ever. I like Turkish food and do not get often so this place did not meet my expectation. Not bad but certainly average.

Had a fantastic meal at Ottomans last Saturday night. Started with humous and flatbreads to share, more than enough for 2, especially with what was to follow….I went for the lamb kleftiko, it was absolutely delicious, melt in the mouth, falling off the bone 🤤 Followed by baklava which I struggled to finish but persevered 🐷 The service was spot on, lovely and friendly staff, couldn’t fault it all. Try it 👍

Friday night & we booked for a large group. Preordered our meals. All was in order. All meals as ordered. Very attentive staff, friendly & not intrusive. Variety of meals but everyone was pleased eith their order. All hot & cooked beautifully. Some portions were huge - depending on your dish. And given we were a group it was very easy to pay separately- which can always be an issue. All in all 5 stars

Our trip here was based on my desire for Turkish cuisine. We were not disappointed. Food and drink were excellent, with a laid back, but OK service. We both enjoyed our meal here and would return. If you like good Turkish food then this a good place to come too.

Overall, a good restaurant with delicious cuisine. The older-looking Turkish waiter/manager is unfriendly and undermines the warm Turkish hospitality.

I have been to this restaurant several times previously with my husband and had good service and food, However last night I went with a female friend and the service was horrendous! We were constantly harassed by 1 of the waiters who seemed to letch over us all night and made us feel really uncomfortable. The other waiter recognised me as a regular customer and apologised for his colleagues manner stating “I’m sick of telling him he can’t go on like that he’s not in Turkey now” and laughed it off!! Not funny at all from my point of view. The waiter who recognised me then gave us a leaving drink of tequila rose and lent into both me and my friend for a kiss and hug again totally unacceptable after I had already raised my concerns over his colleague. There seemed to be no other management in the restaurant to complain to so we paid and left. Unfortunately I don’t think I will be returning to the restaurant which is a shame as the food is really nice.

Turkish is one of my favourite cuisines, I have eaten a lot and cooked a fair bit. The guys in Ottoman make some of the best I’ve eaten, if you come to newcastle, come here for a meal, you won’t be disappointed. I try to come very time I come up here for work. If you live in Newcastle, you’re very lucky to have this place.

Had a very satisfying experience. Friendly staff, exquisite food, generous portions & reasonably priced. We even ordered the next nights takeaway dinner before we left as we were travelling north. Would dine here again when next in Newcastle.

I went to the restaurant last week, the food was fantastic, the decor was Turkish and it was amazing. The service was fine and friendly. The location is at Claytot Street west. The price was a little expensive but at least it was clean and overall it was quite good

It is a Turkish restaurant located in Clayton street west. The food is quite good and seems busy often. We went in without reservation, but lucky to get a space. Authentic food and reasonable prices. The menu is as of June 2023

Great food and service. However some of the prices are on the high side for what you get e.g. a tall tumbler of diet coke £3.95.

I agree with the comment below. I would rate it 0 if I could. We reserved a table for 5 people as this restaurant came up as a nice place to dine at. We was en route to the restaurant (2 mins away) and received a call. The man on the phone was very rude and was adamant for our quick arrival. When we got there it was very empty. We explained we have 3/5 of us present. The waitress wanted us to give drink orders as soon as we sat down. The experience immediately felt very rushed. I ordered calamari and lamb shoulder with mash. The calamari was oily and the lamb was very salty. Whilst eating, it was only 8:55pm our remaining 2 friends were coming. We had a small table so asker the waiter if we could be seated somewhere else as our friends are outside. The man abruptly said ‘NO’. When we asked why he said the kitchen is now closed. According to the website, the restaurant does not close till 11pm. The customer experience here was atrocious. Whilst sitting there we thought to check the reviews and saw someone there and just posted a review 2 minutes ago. (The newest comment below mine). There was only 2 other small groups in the restaurant. A man came into the restaurant to place an order at 9:10 and was rudely turned away because the chef is cleaning the kitchen. We shared our experience with our waiter and she said ‘I am not the manager’. We went to Gino’s D'Acampo Restaurant and what a complete different experience. It was chilled, calm and the hospitality was beautiful.

The Turkish waiter's manner was very rude and he did not welcome us at all I asked him if there were burgers or not and he took the menu from my hand (without any respect for me) and said go to Mac????? Bad food, very ordinary, very expensive, and the waiter's style is very rude. If there is less than one star, I would not recommend this restaurant to any Arab or Saudi. There are very beautiful Turkish restaurants in the area, with delicious food and sophisticated treatment.

One of my best restaurant experiences ever. Without any doubt the best duck I've tasted in my whole life, and the totalimpression puts Ottoman on my top three list of restaurant experiences, no matter category, in my life. I'm 56 years old. The chef, the food, the staff, the manager. Priceless! I will recomend this place to all I meet all over the world. I probably come back to Newcastle just to visit this place again.

Good central location not too far from the station. I’d read really good things so was excited to visit. I went for the chicken iskender which unfortunately I didn’t enjoy much. Loads of chicken probably at least two chicken breasts and it was tender enough...

Disappointing visit, my moussaka was like warm in middle, I reported to waiter who when told me it was microwaved. I asked why I was eating microwaved food and was told all the food is microwaved except the bbq meat! So basically you are eating expensive microwave homemade ready meals.

First visit, and it was definitely a place i will go back to. We had booked in advance, we seen to our table promptly and ordered very quickly. Service was fantastic, the guy who brought our food was very funny, had a well rehearsed set of comments that were friendly, warming inoffensive and funny. Genuinely made me titter. The mixed grill was fantastic, we had house bread with it, too. The menu looked amazing, but potential food envy/jealousy made me order the mixed grill since that's what the wife ordered.

I've been here several times with friends and the grills are superb. Cooked to perfection, the meats are crispy on the outside and soft jucy on the inside, not a hint of dryness. Starters likewise as good. My friends were also complementary on their dishes when they tasted them. I thought it represented excellent value with the quality on offer and will be back for more. Venue and Service were very fine too and quick.

Just had a really enjoyable quick lunch there before catching the train. The manager is a funny man and the food lovely and fresh. So nice to stumble on something so good - would certainly go again.

This was a recommendation from a friend and it didn't dissapoint. For starters I had lamb meatballs, they were lovely and came in a tomatoe sauce. The portion was generous and very tasty. For main I had chicken dolma, this was alot bigger than expected and came with Rice and salad. The chicken was so tender and complimented by the peppers, onions and cheese. The sauce was rich and creamy. We also got bread for the table which soaked up the excess sauce. The waiting staff were also lovely and very friendly. Highly recommend and I shall be back.

The best Turkish restaurant in Newcastle. The dishes are delicious and enough for two or more people. The staff is very friendly, but the prices are a little high.

We have eaten here many times and last nights meal was as good as it always is, so much so we are eating there again tonight.

Went here for lunch, really tasty food, friendly staff, good portion sizes too. A little expensive at just under £50 for 2 meals, 2 drinks a side and a dessert, but the quality was good, would happily go back.
