Great wee pub, cracking food and lovely beer. Good way to break a journey with their airb&b. Fantastic chili chicken parmesan, which seems to be a specialism of the North East......

We were on holiday in this village, we had booked a table for the Friday night on the date we arrived 27 th October, the place was buzzing very busy. The staff were all very friendly and we were served quickly with our food, the food was delicious, hot and a lot of it well worth the money. We enjoyed it so much we booked again for the following Thursday, the pub was quieter and again the food was delicious. If we are in this area again on holiday we will definitely go back there. Also dog friendly which is a bonus.

Visited on Sat 5th august with a family of 6 as we were staying in the attached accommodation. Everyone of our party said this was the best meal we’d rather out in ages. Food quality and quantity was fantastic and really good value. Pub itself was comfy and homely with attentive and friendly staff. I can personally recommend the fisherman’s board! Superb Thank you

Great local pub with a lovely atmosphere. Manager and staff were extremely friendly, food and drinks were great value for money, the Pizza’s are an absolute must. The pub has a three double bedroom self accommodation unit next door, we stayed during Easter, again excellent value for money for a family of four (11 year old girl, 7 year old boy) compared to other options nearby. The entire place was spotlessly clean. Would highly recommend.

We stayed for 2 nights, to spend some time with our family who live in Ripon. This was the best value locally we could find and we were very happy with the property. Literally next to the pub, which served good pub food, 3 double bedrooms, lovely and clean, good carpets, although no central heating portable electric/ oil radiators in each room did the job. There was plenty of hot water and an electric shower. Located well for visiting the NY moors, Dales, Ripon or fountains abbey all no more than 30 minutes or less. A bottle of fresh milk and tea/coffee was provided, plenty of clean, nice cutlery and crockery too. Recommend for a long weekend, small kitchen so you wont be doing gourmet food but was OK for basics. In short, plenty of space, great value, good location and a lovey pub. (Oh, and they will deliver the food to your accommodation too!)

Stayed in the area and had a couple of takeaway meals from the pub. Both times the food was ready at the assigned time , packaged really well and absolutely delicious. As a family we had a variety of different food including vegetable lasagne, burgers and fish and chips. I had the beef lasagne and the steak pie ( not at the same time) and both were gorgeous. Would definitely recommend this pub for food and I am very fussy about my food.

Only stayed 1 night. We called the number supplied when we arrived and the owner Luke was with us in minutes! Pint of milk in the fridge, tea coffee and sugar waiting for us which is perfect after a long drive. We had tea in the pub that is attached to the property. The food was lovely and not too expensive. The staff in the pub were amazing, a lady called Ann went above and beyond to help us out, so Thank you so much for helping us. The house is cosy, perfect for what we needed, 3 good sized double bedrooms and some games for the kids to play. We couldn't hear any noise from the pub, pool table dartboard and as mentioned lovely food and a great atmosphere. Thank you to Luke and the pub team for a Lovely stay!

We picked this pub by chance as it was 5 mins from where our friends lived. We were having a reunion and staying with friends in Thornton-le-Moor. Menu was very good. Plenty on the plate, had a starter and main. There was no room for a pud which was a real shame. The manger/owner was very helpful. Staff that waited on us were very good. I would recommend very much and will retun next time we are in the area.

While in North Yorkshire we visited this public house who served meals. We ordered steak and ale pie. It was dreadful. The meat was tasteless and the pastry was horrible. I'm over 70 and I have had pastry from all over the world but I have never tasted or seen pasty like what we were given. I could never recommend this pub for food.

Nice friendly atmosphere, packed with locals which is a good sign. Dog friendly and they are made welcome as were we.Chap behind the bar was busy but helpful. Our meals were pretty good. The chip shop supper was a great idea and went down well. Steak pie full of filling! A decent menu full of traditional pub food. Deserts appeared homemade and again left empty plates. Our only issue was the bbq chicken in the basket meal was very very greasy. All in all a decent local pub with decent pub grub.Would go back

We returned here after a marvellous Sunday lunch last year. We were ignored when we arrived then waited 25 minutes for our starters. We both chose the pork but the whole meal was completely bland. We decided not to stay for dessert so left our table to pay the bill. After waiting several minutes the waitress told us we pay at the bar. Needless to say we cancelled our reservation for the following week.

Lovely village pub. We visited when staying at the local caravan park and ate here twice, fab both times with good portion sizes and reasonable prices. Lovely to see a proper village pub rather than somewhere fancy and over the top, or a chain brand.

Stayed at the caravan site nearby last week called in at the inn a couple of times good food and ale. Warm welcome very accommodating when picking and choosing from the (locally sourced) menu, say what you fancy eg sausage dinner rather than sausage and chips and if they can they pull from other menus they do and make very tasty meals. Ale well kept and help in choosing a nice bottle of wine. Very reasonable prices.

We called in at the Shorthorn Inn for lunch after visiting Northallerton. It’s a small country pub along the A167. There wasn’t many people in the pub and we managed to get a table straight away, there was no table service and we had to order at the bar which wasn’t too much of an inconvenience with it being quiet upon our visit.

Quality is good. However, the portion sizes have massively decreased, the Parmesan for example is half the size it used to be and is very very thin. Chips are only provided to share between the table, so this is a clear way of trying to save money. The Bay Horse always used to be consistently good when booking a large group. Unfortunately , this will be the last time I visit until they sort out their portion sizes for the price they charge I ordered and paid for drinks at the bar which cost me £40. 2 pints of Pepsi 2 J20 2 sparkling water 2 half pints of lemonade 1 lime and soda 2 lattes
