Otter in Newport

Went on a quiet weeknight with family. Personable bar staff were happy to converse and food was great. They had a voucher campaign running so food was even more reasonably priced

Fantastic for a spot of lunch. The smaller portion of hunters chicken was brilliant for myself as I have a smaller appetite but my partners mixed grill was way more than he could finish! Really good quality and portions for the money. Will definatley be planning a return visit in the near future!

Lovely night out with the family, friendly staff and quick service. The kids enjoyed their food and the portion sizes were good too. I always enjoy a steak here and my husband said the gammon was lovely too.

Last minute decision to eat here rather than the usual maccy ds across the road! After a long day of herding our children around the forest drive, we needed somewhere filling and some where the kids (who still had loads of energy) could safely run around and hopefully tire before the car journey home. The otter was the gift that kept giving. My wife and I sat out side where we could still see our kids play in the playground but at a distance that gave the illusion of a grown up meal. The staff were so kind and helpful, even sharing a jokes with my autistic son (a lot of people freeze up when they can’t understand his speech). I cannot stress enough how much of a difference this makes to my sons (and therefore, our) day. They even went as far as to make him a “special” desert of his favourite flavours of ice cream. The food was better than it had any right to be for a chain restaurant. It is clear that the kitchen staff really take the time to make you a “meal” and not just push out microwaveable slop in the shape resembling food. Most importantly the price was completely reasonable, if even a little cheaper than I was expecting after deserts and coffee. At the end of the meal I spoke to manager to compliment his staffs handling of my son. I singled out our server but honestly there were several members of staff who had been so gentle and willing to interact with him even when he was clearly interrupting them. He was oblivious happy with the feedback but also assured me that he accepted nothing less from his staff and reassured me that we would never have to worry about ever bringing our son to his restaurant. His response solidified that we will definitely be going back next week. It might not sound like much but having the this “why would it be a problem” attitude towards my son is not something we have encountered every where. Without knowing it the team at the otter have given us another silly little tradition for our days out. I cannot recommend enough

Last minute visit for food on our way past. Family of 4. Looked as though a revamp had been carried out since our last visit. Really nice. Delicious meals, we had 2 x fish and chips, a steak and Ale pie and a Cowboy burger. All really tasty and large portions. Fast and efficient service. X

We use the otter a lot for lunch maybe once or twice a week, always have a very nice lunch and always treated well. It is always clean and the Christmas grotto look really good.

Food substandard. Slapped on plate. Hunters chicken and chips only no veg??? Gammon just ok. Again slapped on plate no fines. Prawn cocktail was absolutely terrible. Lettuce cut up and prawns on top 7. Some were icy. So disappointing glad I had a discount so didn’t complain. Won’t go there in a hurry.

I came for lunch with my mum. The food was lovely. We have returned home to Australia and received a parking fine of £100. Does anyone know why?

Great place to spend time with friends and have food, the food quality is great and the staff are very friendly. The atmosphere of the pub is also great.

Me and my partner came for the carvery on the Sunday, the whole thing was perfect. Served by chef Lee and he was super attentive and amazing! Honestly the best I’ve had in Wales so far. All of the staff were lovely and very welcoming and the pub was very clean and tidy. Look forward to coming again.

I stopped here for lunch with a friend. There was an onsite electric car charger which was ideal to top up the car while we had lunch. The staff were very friendly and polite and the food came out in fairly good time. The pub looked clean and tidy and the meals were reasonably well presented. They also accept blue light card discount so that was even better. If you fancy some lunch I’d recommend you stop here. We ate between 3pm and 4:30pm so not a peak period for a weekday.

Please be warned all, we got fined by Premier Park for parking in Otter car park even when we had a receipt to prove we had a meal there. We phoned Otter to let them of our fine and despite having a receipt and showing proof of our payment via card, this meant nothing, they still fined us saying that we overstayed by 3 mins as we had our evening meal and stayed for just over an hour. Be warned all, don’t go there for a meal, it’s the most expensive meal we had to pay. It was our first and last time. Terrible to do this to an OAP and with mobility issue with a blue badge parked right by the entrance. Otter should be ashamed of using companies such as Premier Park with very bad reviews

Came for a quick meal out with my mother and 2 of her friends, I ordered the Gammon Steak and Buttermilk Chicken Strips and Popcorn Chicken as a side, Chips were amazing, flavourful and oily, Gammon wasn't bad, a bit to salty for my liking but it was at least juicy, lovely eggs, so tender, falling apart, ketchup so nice, smooth, flavourful, even though it was heinz, it was better than the ones I can get at supermarkets, Chicken starter was nice, bbq sauce way to spicy but I enjoyed a very yummy meal at the Otter!!!!, Well Done Team Otter For Turning Yourself Around From Last Time!!!! I'm So Impressed!!!, Last time I left a fairly disappointing review and sadly had to complain, but this time all you get is Praise From Me!!!!!, I will 100% be returning and had an amazing lemonade, but I don't know what happened to the free help yourself water???, Thank You Team Otter For Making My Experience Much Better Than Last Time In October!!! Wow!!!!

First time visit here, decor a bit jaded and staff were OK but not very welcoming Staff member kept calling us young girls - in our 50's and 70's. Ordered via the app but to follow up on drinks. Food was great and good portion sizes.

Came for dinner with my daughter today and we had a fish and mash and a hot dog. Food was cooked by Carys and was brilliant. The fish was huge and moist and the hotdog was delicious! We were served by Katelyn and she was friendly and polite

Went for a light lunch at the otter yesterday with two of my friends and the menu was great! We wasn’t too hungry but they had a lunch menu which was great! Good meeting place. Parking arrangements are good, despite the challenge of a drive thru fast food restaurant close by! The menu isn't extensive, but there was enough to choose from. Only comment would be to not put barbecue sauce on quite so many dishes!
