Man of Gwent in Newport

Whenever I visit here, there is often a lovely young girl (dark hair, tunnels in her ears and wears black trousers). She is such a kind, friendly girl and is also very helpful. Upon my visit this afternoon, we were seated in a loud area which my son with autism struggled with quite badly so I asked to be seated somewhere else and it literally was no issue to her whatsoever. However, what disappointed me on this visit this afternoon was the way the woman behind the bar belittled this girl, she spoke to her like she was dirt in front of customers, She was very unprofessional and rather intimidating. I stood back listening and what a disgrace that woman was. I really felt for the girl with dark hair, she didn't deserve that. I really hope the owner has a word with that woman, the girl that was spoken to badly, I'm sure she won't be hard to find there. What a credit to your business she is.

Excellent Customer Service Experience! I recently dined at the Man of Gwent and I must say the customer service was outstanding! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by our waitress Chantelle. Our server was incredibly attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful experience, checking in regularly without being intrusive. Our food arrived quickly, and any special requests were accommodated with a smile. It’s clear that customer satisfaction is a top priority here. Overall, the hospitality and professionalism made our visit truly enjoyable. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great food and exceptional service. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Have been eating here for years, with friends and family, Apart from being generally a bit run down & unclean toilets. always found the staff there very welcoming and friendly with ok food at a very reasonable. Went in for Lunch on Saturday (with party of 5) There was a female staff member behind the bar , talking to what looked like a customer who was drinking there, It seemed like a big inconvenience for her to serve us ,with a very unprofessional attitude, we got drinks then went back to the bar to order food ,this condersending attitude continued ,we asked to speak to the manager ,were abruptly told "I am the manager ",then sarcastically said "good bye have a good day". We left and went to another local pub ,where the Food staff and service were excellent. (Our new venue) It's a pity how easily one staff member with obviously no training or people skills can lose a business long term custom . Would Never go there again.

Manager has bad customer service skills. We have frequented this pub for over 15 years. The establishment has become run down over time. The toilets are disgusting taps leaking lights not working and an overwealming smell off faecies. The chairs are falling apart. The general appearance of the building is in disrepair and neglected. How this place has passed a Health and Safety inspection along with Food standards is amazing because the place is held together with sticky back plastic. Surfaces are non hygienic. Will not attend until management improves and place is brought up to a decent standard.

Great service here with excellent atmosphere. We went in the afternoon for some food. Food was lovely. Had kids burger and chips, adult burger and fries and chicken wings and fries. All was tasty but would have fancied option of baguettes or jackets etc but that's just personal preference. Not overpriced at all. Tall young guy at the bar couldn't do enough for us and was welcoming throughout. A credit to the place.

Usually go here for lunch on a Friday, staff are always great, food is pretty good. Often got some good deals on.

Booked here for 18 people last Monday for a 40th birthday meal. great services from start to finish. All meals came out close together so noone was sat waiting any length of time. The girls working were both outstandingly would highly recommend to anyone especially for large bookings

Went to the quiz night for the first time in a while wasn't the usual chap doing the quiz but the girl was a highly entertaining character , food was nice didn't take long to come either. Good value in the buy one get one free on burgers.Hana was very friendly and welcoming staff member very polite, great service would recommend visiting on a Thursday evening .

This is such an incredible pub, been coming here for the last 7 years, Food is always spot on, staff are always friendly and a good laugh, service is incredible and fast and would 1000% recommend to anyone who hasn't been before.

The food we had as adults w are normally amazing but mine and my daughter steaks was not very nice, my steak is medium to well and it was rear and my daughters was meant to medium rear and the same rear, I've never had food I've never praised before

Had steaks which were undercooked inside and almost burnt on outside, chewy just all around not nice but after speaking to the manager my nan had a free desert as she couldn't physically eat hers. Desserts were lovely and they are a friendly pub , just disappointed in the steak

I recently dined at Man of Gwent and had an excellent experience. The food was delicious, the ambiance was perfect, and the service was top-notch. A special shoutout to Katie, who was the best waitress! She was attentive, friendly, and made our meal even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this place!

It is in an awkward spot, the carpark is on a hill it can be a problem for people with walking difficulties. Went for a funeral buffet, and was surprised at how tastefull the food was, most buffets that I've been to were bland, unusual to have chips as well, but they were really nice. Couldn't fault it

Excellent food, great service, and being dog friendly makes this pub a great place to visit. I had an XL mixed grill and the Mrs had something else (we can't remember 😂). Both were absolutely delicious. The Lilly Cider is also a lovely tipple. Wish this place was closer to home. Well worth the visit.

I have jist finished a large mixed grill, not for the faint hearted, but one of the best mixed grills I have had . If you like meat this in the dish for you. We both struggled to finish the meal.

The food is always good and good value but the toilets leave a lot to be desired they need a good update

Always leave feeling, full, happy and pleasantly surprised. With every visit it gets better and better. We now come almost once a month and we have never had disappointing experience. The man of gwent is fantastic value for money and very affordable. My favourite dish is the fish and chips.

The Turkey dinner that I had was not fresh food everything on my place came from frozen food

This place is fantastic for affordable family dining with grest deals to suit all budgets. I came here with my sister, partners and our children. The food did not disappoint and although it was very busy the staff were more than helpful. It's a real blessing to have this gem of a restaurant on our doorstep.

Visited Friday and was served by Chris. Was made to feel welcome instantly as he was friendly and approachable. Will be back.

What an excellent pub situated in Newport. The food was amazing and great value for money. We had excellent service from Chris who has a great attitude towards his job, very helpful and efficient always had a smile on his face. We will be back!

I Came in here last week with my girlfriend and was greeted by Abbi, and I must say... What an experience that was! She made my evening with her excellent people skills and warming personality! Food was nice as expected from the man of Gwent... but the service was on a whole different level! She is a credit to the man of Gwent and I personally think that they are lucky to have her on the team! I will definitely be coming here more often! I think this may be my new place to eat! Having been for the first time in over 12 months there is a considerably different atmosphere in the pub,management and staff very happy and very helpful,will be back and hopefully receive the same,we'll done all.

We come here alot ,food is usually a 10/10 I'd give it a 4 ...the staff was lovely and friendly apart from one young lady with brown and red hair ,absolutely fuming from the time I walked and got a table she was staring at my autistic child the whole time ,and he has long hair and wears different clothes that's because they don't like material so his top was different,I wanted to say something, but my husband ask me to ignore her ,even he noticed and so did my son which made him ask questions and feel sad !..she's not there to judge !...it doest matter what people are or what they wear ,try and have a little bit or respect!..so I won't return and a massive complaint is going to head office !...

Excellent food and very good deals, especially on a Thursday for BOGOF burgers. The service is extremely good and pleasant, they’re always friendly to me and my company. The atmosphere is also really good and what you want from a pub. Overall would recommended wholeheartedly

Go here regularly with some friends, they always make us feel so welcome! Katie behind the bar is always patient and professional, and makes sure we get our food and drinks quickly, which are top quality! Can't reccomend enough
