Otter Valley Dairy Ice Cream Summerhouse in East Devon

Found this on the way back from the West Country as happened to be a good place to break our journey. What a good find - great sandwiches, good coffee and very good service. Well worth stopping at, very clean and well presented. Option to sit outside or inside and ideal for people who have dogs as well I’ll be happy to stop there again the next time I’m passing and would recommend it to anyone

Sat outside as we had our dog with us. Ordered coffees and cakes x3. Service was DREADFULLY slow and the same for everyone else there by the looks of it. Really lovely cakes and coffee but infuriating that as we were sat outside we had to have it in paper cups and cakes in cardboard takeaway containers. What an absolute waste of packaging. Have to say these things have put us off returning.

This was recommended to me by a colleague as we travel down to the West Country about 3 things a year, and have always stopped at a nearby (very below average) diner. The setting is absolutely stunning, and the interior clean and fresh. Our breakfast started well when my coffee arrived and was piping hot, just how I like it. I then had the veggie breakfast which was superb. I have never tasted hash browns like these homemade ones. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Visited with young children to break up a journey. Have driven past before not realising the cafe served food as well as ice cream. We had a really lovely lunch. The children designed their own pizza and it was perfect. Everything looked and tasted fresh and of a high quality. The staff were polite and really friendly. The ice cream was delicious and we ate them outside to enjoy the view. We will be back.

The last time we were here, it was solely an ice-cream hut with a delicious assortment of homemade flavours. We knew it had been developed some time ago now however hadn’t been back since. We visited for lunch (without a booking), intending to try their stone-baked pizza however instead opted for a lighter lunch of sandwiches accompanied with two ice cream milkshakes. The smoked salmon sandwich was fresh and delicious and the breakfast sandwich was tasty too. Unfortunately the milkshakes were incredibly disappointing both in value and taste which was surprising considering the high quality of the ice cream. They were £4.80 each which is rather expensive for this therefore we presumed they’d be plentiful and thick with ice cream however they were light and frothy, served in a standard ‘sundae’ style glass. In comparison to the actual ice cream scoop serving size and taste, this was a real contrast. Following our meal, we opted to take some generous portions of rocky road and chocolate brownie cakes home with us as they looked - and we are happy to confirm - tasted delicious. We also enjoyed a scoop of ice cream to take away which was of a high standard as expected - which left us even more puzzled as to how the ice cream milkshakes which are almost double the price, could be so bland. The service wasn’t particularly memorable and a little muddled but pleasant nonetheless and the ice-cream milkshakes were certainly a let down however the sandwiches, cakes, takeaway ice-cream and of course the location were wonderful and that would prompt us to return.

Lovely late lunch here - bacon sandwiches were generous and piping hot and ice cream was delicious. Definitely worth a visit.

Oh dear. What’s happened here?? Signage very confusing as to queuing for ice creams/tables etc. I did tell one of the staff, but she said they’d been too busy to change things! I saw countless people looking confused- the ice cream could do with being outside and separate as you end up in the ice cream queue instead of one for a table!! The hot weather had obviously been an issue too with a shawl and screen hurriedly put up (can I suggest a sail suspended over the area? - cheap and quick to install) A victim of your success?? Uncleared tables too. Are you understaffed or do you need a floor manager? Not sure, but it was chaotic! Will be back though, great spot and have had many good experiences previously)

What can we say? We visited earlier that week for ice cream and after that our host recommended that we return again for Friday night pizza but warned that we had to ring up early in the day to order our pizzas. When we arrived they we ready for us bang on time and we sat on the garden benches overlooking the valley, relaxing in the evening sun.The pizzas are fantastic - so far removed that some you buy in cardboard boxes from you know where. And not only that once you have finished it you can go back and get another ice cream!!!!!What was the most surprising was that our darling teenage son George was beaten by the size of the pizza but he was. Usually he has the appetite of a pack of wolves but tonight it was just too much for him - well at least for 24hrs as he took it home and planned to eat it the next day.A great experience and one we would highly recommend - especially if you have hungry teenage boys!

Honestly you know when somewhere seems a bit overrated? I felt that coming here a little. We stopped off on our way back from Lyme Regis as had read good reviews, it had clearly been busy but there was loads of tables absolutely cluttered with left plates etc that weren't cleared after even 20 mins of us being there. Our scoop of ice cream was more of a smear of ice-cream although it did taste nice. I also ordered a decaff latte and couldn't put my finger on it but it just didn't taste nice (kind of a Christmas spice taste, in fairness maybe that was the coffee blend not that I was told) so asked for another one, and a young chap who looked bored to death of being there slapped another "decaff flat white" in front of me, not that I could be bothered to argue (and it did taste better and was much hotter.) The pizzas and food that people were eating did look generous and its clearly a popular place but for even a wet Sunday they maybe were understaffed. It also wasn't clear if you got your own table or had to wait as 2 signs contradict each other, and in COVID times it is unusual to get your own table, as we didn't know if it had been "cleaned" first etc, not that I'm doubting their cleanliness. Overall I'm not saying we wouldn't try it again but I wouldn't rave about it.

Came on a colleague's recommendation to break our journey from Farnham to St Austell. A lovely spot, very popular, especially for ice cream. I had beetroot hummus ( amongst other delicious things) and it was a complete revelation. I have now found a recipe... Do try this lovely cafe.

This place was recommended so we called in for ice cream last week. Delicious!! You get a very difficult choice of flavours as there are some so many, but I opted for banana and peanut butter. It may sound like a strange mix but it was gorgeous.

I came with my daughter and ordered soup for us to share as there wasn’t much suitable for a small child. The soup and bread were delicious and the butter was provided slightly melted/spreadable which was a nice touch (it’s always a bugbear of mine when bread/toast comes with butter straight from the fridge!). After I finished no one came to clear our plates or ask if we wanted dessert (I waited a good while) so I flagged someone down and said I wanted some ice cream as I’d heard good things about it. The waitress said I should go to the counter to get it. The ice cream was divine so I’ll forgive the waiting staff for a slightly muddled service. Eating out in covid times is very strange. One thing I did notice was the Kitchen Porter seemed to be the same person preparing the pizzas. I hope he washes his hands after clearing plates!Definitely be returning after lockdown though.

This was recommended as a good pit stop when driving from Hampshire to the West Country over the October half term. What a great recommendation. Easy to find, ample parking, dog friendly (outside) and clean toilets. Straight forward menu containing good quality local ingredients which was just what we needed for a lunch time stops. The ice creams are really good. Will sop again on our next trip west.

Every time we come on holiday here we always visit the field kitchen for ice cream. And it's always worth it. Heaving in summer so we holiday in October. No queues.

We were introduced to this restaurant by a chauffeur driving us home from Southampton last year and really enjoyed a fresh cooked pizza.We called in this time on our way to Bath for a late lunch. There were good Corona virus protections in place and the staff were helpful and friendly as before.I had a sausage and egg sandwich which was excellent, made with proper butchers sausage and a yellow yolked egg cooked so that it was still just runny.My partner had a beef ciabatta roll which she said was really good.

Superb food and very pleasant location. Offers teas/coffees and selection of good sandwiches with local produce, wood oven pizzas and hand made gelato.

Glad to be stopped here for quick lunch. They got variety of sandwiches, pizzas, ice creams, shakes, cakes etc. Very scenic views with garden seating arrangements is perfect after a long drive.

Some of the ice cream is the best ever and then others are quite lack-lustre. I’m really glad I didn’t just have the single scoop otherwise I would be disappointed. Highly recommend their chocolate ice cream though, that was out of this world. Top Tip: Don’t opt for coffee ice cream. Mine was riddle with ice crystals and wasn’t smooth or strong in flavour. Stick with chocolate.

Found this lovely little stop off on our way home from Cornwall and we were very happy with the service and food. They have a great set up so that all customers can adhere to social distancing and recycle all waste on their way out of the exit. We ordered the bacon and sausage rolls as it was mid morning, although were very tempted by the pizza's which did look very nice. A great stop off for a bite to eat and in lovely surroundings.

Lovely food, friendly staff and sticking to the new covid rules with plenty of places to sanitise. Masks are advised when walking through, which I fully agree with and they had a station to leave track and trace.Stopped en route home and pleased we did, the ice cream was so so good! A big thank you :-)

We stopped here for pizza and it was delicious. They made it fresh to order in a big pizza oven, the menu was really interesting and had lots of local produce on it. There were good vegetarian options. The building is lovely, it's got big open windows that look out over the valley and there's lots of outdoor seating as well. They're well-prepared for Covid, it's clean and easy to stay separate. Everything is served in takeout boxes, which are recyclable.

Not only was there good social distancing available but the food was good as well. Amazing views and my mother in law who was visiting from Bedfordshire was very impressed with her cream tea. We have since bought a cream tea for 2 gift certificate for visitors staying in our holiday let. They were equally impressed with cream tea and the stunning views.

Beautiful setting - that was the best part of the whole meal. Staff rude. Pizza doughy. Food expensive - London prices. Scone (£4) was stale, hard and crumbly (see photo). When I complained they brought another one but slapped it down on the table, very begrudgingly... However, ice-cream was nice

Really impressed with the effort to make the place covid safe. Sanitiser everywhere, recyclable packaging which is probably a bit over the top but I suppose good. Importantly food and coffee was faultless, ice cream out of this world. Well done staff. Shame about the wasps but can't be helped.

Popped in for an ice cream on a very hot Saturday in the middle of the Corona chaos were all having to adapt to and we were fully enticed by the lunch menu. Boards placed outside so decisions could be made and minimal people had to actually be in the main building. Went with a Hawaiian pizza and a beetroot hummus, salad, flatbread box with added pulled ham which we shared between us. Oh my goodness it was absolutely delicious. Really amazing quality, beautiful setting. Followed by an ice cream which is (in my opinion) the best in Devon. The couple on the table over from us were saying how they came across Otter Valley on their way into Devon for a holiday, what an amazing place to stumble across-I’m fully glad I’m local enough to enjoy it regularly and I fully appreciate the effort they’ve put in to keep everyone safe.

I visited yesterday (05/08/20) and we were so surprised at how much this place has grown! We visited a few years back and it was just a single beach hut selling ice cream... Now, Otter Valley has even more fantastic flavours and a whole menu of food and drinks available! I have Coeliac Disease and I find it very hard to find food options whilst on the go, but the ladies were so helpful and went out of there way to assist and make sure I could be catered to. They even checked that the sweetener in my coffee was gf (when I had forgotten to even ask) and gave me a scoop of ice cream from a fresh tub out the back, to make sure it hadn’t been contaminated. They do have gluten free bread and pizza dough available on request and the brie and onion chutney toasted sandwich that I had was very nice. Excellent service and cannot thank them enough. Highly recommend!

Th setting for Otter Valley Field Kitchen is in the midst of stunningly beautiful Devon countryside and the ice cream is delicious enough to make massive ripples.Judging by today this place is popular and that isn't surprising if the quality of its food is anything to go by. There are 10 flavours to choose from, served from an up market-looking kiosk and you can choose to either sit outside and admire the view or venture into the restaurant.We opted for the former and each made our selections. Mine were salted caramel and chocolate brownie, and blackcurrant ripple, with a flake on top.It was a lovely way to spend part of an afternoon and I'd definitely recommend the ices and be confident that any of the 10 variations are of the same high standard as my choices were. I'm hoping we will visit again in the not too distant future.

Lovely ice cream in an outside, well spaced, safe feeling environment. Good range of flavours and even the amount in a tub is full some.

Called here for ice creams... such a choice and variety, really interesting selection and delicious. Can also recommend the milk shakes. It was busy and whilst space when we visited can imagine at times being too busy.

During our week stay at OtterFalls we visited this place 3 times and everytime we visited the ice cream, staff and venue was great.From the photo you can see the array of ice cream options and at a reasonable price. The only negative I would give is that they don't advertise a childrens option but they do have them available which we did not find out until the last visit.Also available are hot drinks and fresh baked pizza. The pizza we did not try but they looked amazing.A dog friendly venue with lots of outdoor seating. Lovely views whilst you eat your ice cream or pizza.

Normally love otter valley and visit regularly, food and ice cream is always amazing , however today I was very disappointed. A friend and I turned up to get a takeaway pizza, we got in the queue at 5:20pm and were waiting for 10 minutes, we then got to the counter and asked if they were still serving takeaway pizza but the young girls said they stop serving at 5:30 but they would go and check with the cook, they then came back and just said ‘no’ without being apologetic at all which we thought was very rude. It had also only just turned 5:30pm and surely as business you would have thought they’d want to get some extra income with only having to cook 2 pizzas.. we weren’t so annoyed that they stopped serving but it was the attitude of the staff and surely you would state somewhere that you stop serving at that time? Anyway very disappointed with tonight’s service and rude staff which I hate to say because normally love this place.

Today is a bit 'iffy' but we were lucky that the sun came out for an admiring look at the lovely cows that make it all possible! Everything very well organised for the present situation of course but we were lucky enough to beat the queue.I haven't tried Elderflower Sorbet before, but it was fantastic and I'm already thinking about the next one! You could of course work your way through the ice cream menu as well as trying all the cakes, pizzas and other dishes on offer - but you would have to live a lot nearer than we do. Better to take it gently but never miss an opportunity to have a stop here!

Although I love the amazing views from the restaurant, there was something special about the icecream hut and It’s simplicity. It would have been ideal to re open now lockdown is easing as social distancing would have been much easier outside.I used to enjoy sitting outside in the original field, I miss it! Particularly for those that just wanted to call in for a quick icecream without having to queue for long in the chaos of the restaurant during peak times when it gets busy. I also think the icecreams were more generous in portion size and better value when served from the hut. There needs to be a separate queuing system for ice creams in my opinion as it doesn’t work when it gets busy and it’s never been clear where to stand and where to pay.The icecream is delicious, however it’s certainly not cheap for a family all wanting icecream and as I said I would have liked the option of visiting the original hut/field set up which worked so well before. The outside seating areas of the restaurant have no cover from the sun and I struggled with my young children as no umbrellas or parasols available.Staff are always friendly especially the older lady/owner.

Just amazing- food, staff and facilities all excellent.We used to have ian ice cream stop here- and wow what amazing ice cream it is, but now they have a pizza oven and offer home baked flatbreads as well. Today we had humous, olives and dipping flatbead- all delicious.Cakes look fantastic- gigantic scones- but we couldn't resist our ice cream fix when it came to pudding time.

We travel up & down to Devon on a regular basis, usually on a Friday night but yesterday travelled during the day. I’d noted the Field Kitchen on our travels & decided to stop there yesterday - what a lovely find, very friendly & helpful staff not too mention the delicious food. Coffees were perfect & breakfast good value & delicious, so much so that we stopped on our way back today, lunch was delicious & great to see so many people there, lots of ice cream also being sold, noted for the summer! We will use this as our pitstop for the future.

This place is easy to miss as you get to it from the back of a lay by on the A30 in the village of Monkton, close to Honiton, and you can't really see the building from the main road. Blink and you'll drive by and you will miss an absolute treat.On entering the beautiful, one year old, oak framed building we were greeted by a member of staff who explained all aspects of the establishment to my wife and I. We settled down at a table looking at the glorious view (who needs WiFi with a view like that?) as well as studying the, slightly limited, menu, then ordered at the counter and were served by the staff bringing our order to the table. The food was excellent - especially the beef lasagne, and, predictably, my wife indulged in ice cream to follow. Every member of staff showed an interest in us and were so polite and superbly efficient; they all excel at what they do.Will we visit again? Certainly!

Visited this place a few years ago for ice creams so was very excited to see that they now had a farm kitchen. What a beautiful place, the views were amazing and the food was good reasonably priced and arrived in good time. Everything about the place seems to have been well thought out from the car park to the toilets. All very clean and bright. Would recommend for the breakfast

Absolutely gorgeous place. The views are amazing even in the January drizzle. The choice of ice creams is astonishing. Lunch was great and the scones (which we took out) were out of this world. The ice creams are very generously served!

The food menu is small but everything is good. I'd recommend the pizza's. They also have homemade ice cream available. Only minor point is as it's in a valley the reception in the cafe is poor and they don't offer a customer WiFi.

From the humble starting of a wooden summerhouse selling ice cream in a field ten years ago. Nestling in the Blackdown Hills in an ANOB. The year old building with its green Oak trusses and glass walls sits high over the beautiful Otter Valley. With a simple menu of produce with local ingredients. The Ice Cream is varied and to die for!I have "lifted" material from their advertising and can confirm its accuracy. There is one alteration to their business model - Being a Devon man who rarely travels to his birth county I was unable to buy Clotted Cream for my journey home. I have suggested that they put up a sign promoting themselves as "probably" the last placed for Cream before leaving the county. I would have4 gone in for that alone!

We stopped in on our way back along the A303, luckily it was just before 3pm so the Pizza oven and hot food was still available. The menu is not displayed in large format so you need to grab a printed menu from the counter, then grab a table and order with your table number. We settled on a Far East Devon Pizza to share, it was more Turkish Pitta than Italian pizza, but was really lovely with spicy lamb, feta and mint and made a great lunch to share.As others have said this is a beautiful building tucked down from the road with stunning views across the valley.We did not have Ice Cream this visit, but I know it's wonderful having stopped off many times over the years. You can also buy tubs to take home, just remember to bring a cool bag/box to carry it home in.

What a lovely place, friendly staff great food and the best views of blackdown hills. There is a well kept car park and some nice picnic tables outside. They all sell local jams, chutney and wine.

Stopped off for lunch on a trip back up the A30 from Cornwall. Nice spacious glass-walled cafe space with lovely views into the Blackdown Hills. Good menu of traditional soups and sandwiches with pizzas and other hot and cold options. Had a lovely leek and potato soup and classic pizza.

What a fantastic cafe on the A303 - the perfect place to stop en route to Cornwall. Fresh, delicious, tasty food, with great coffee. It made a real difference to the journey.

Popped in for our 2nd visit and had a really nice bacon sandwich and scrambled egg and bacon. The prices aren't cheap however you do get handsome portions. Quality of the food is top notch. Lovely sunny day gave us chance to enjoy the stunning East Devon countryside.

Wonderful, clean still looking new and fresh. Great views over the Otter valley from very tall windows. Opportunity to sit outside, weather permitting. Lovely friendly and helpful staff. All were cheerful. Great tasing coffee, and lovely home made ice cream. Tasty, thin base Pizza was 12 inches and we found it enough to share, for our lunch.

We went to a private function at the Otter Valley Ice Cream & Field Kitchen last weekend and the food -pizzas with a wide variety of salad was very good. Understandably the ice cream was fantastic - huge selection of novel mixtures and very tasty.

Food great, ice cream amazing. Good service and helpful staff. Tips for improvements would be a kids play area and jugs of tap water available to grab please.

Called in for an ice cream after finding this place on the internet. There was a queue with it being a really hot day, but they had plenty of staff and a good system going to keep the queue constantly moving, so I wouldn't be put off if you see a queue. The ice cream was worth the short wait as it was very yummy!!

From coffee and cake earlier in the week to lunch (and ice cream!) on Sunday. Not a traditional roast dinner on Sunday, but no hardship there as the food on offer was good. Pizzas, sandwiches, soups salads etc. Not to mention the ice cream! What lovely staff as well and always happy to let customers try different flavours of the ice creams. Lots of space and a great view of the Otter Valley. Did I mention the ice cream? Scrumptious. It's easy to miss this place as it's entrance is at the back of a layby on the A30 a few miles east of Honiton, but drive into their large car park and enjoy! The toilets are also spotlessly clean.

Small menu done extremely well. Had the best egg mayo sandwich I’ve ever had, made with beautifully fresh, thick hand cut granary bread and plenty of rich egg mayo and served with a lovely fresh dressed salad. Coffee and ice cream amazing also. The timber framed building is beautiful with glass walls overlooking stunning countryside and the cows who provide the milk for the ice cream.

We are regular A303 travellers. Newbury to Dawlish. Used to stop at Starbucks , Honiton. Never tried Otter Valley, as it was on the wrong side of the road!

Was lovely to go back to otter valley field kitchen for an ice cream after a sunny day out elsewhere. Flavours amazing as always. And so tasteful. Queue big but didn’t mind waiting as girls were getting through quite quickly. One member of staff who we recognise me and her when I come in was lovely as always and checked to see if we were ok.

We were driving up to Somerset to pick my farther up and wanted somewhere for breakfast

We made a special trip to Otter Valley during a Devon Holiday, having contacted them in advance to confirm they offered some dairy/lactose free options for my lactose-allergic partner and been told "we always have a sorbet option available in the cabinet".

The Ice Cream is Award Winning. The building is amazing, pizza is fabulous and try their home grown white wine. Fantastic.

Called in yesterday, Bank holiday Monday on our way to visit our daughter and son in law near Plymouth. Was only going to stop and have a coffee but the warm and friendly greeting by the lady behind the counter enticed us to sit and have breakfast. The surrounds are absolutely beautiful, overlooking the Otter Valley, watching the cows in the adjacent fields whilst waiting for our breakfast which was dished up very quickly. I ordered poached eggs on brown toast and you can never be certain if the person in charge of cooking will serve up your eggs as you like them, but these were poached to perfection, absolutely delicious and washed down with a very tasty black coffee. Hubby had a bacon sarnie which he enjoyed, although it was too much for him!! What’s a girl to do? I had to “help”.

Fantastic ice cream in a great location. An absolute must to cheer everyone up on the way home after a trip to the coast. Just off the A30 with loads of parking. It’s not cheap but it’s worth every penny in my opinion. We’ll be planning our next road trip to include this essential A30 pit stop.

Being semi local to the venue and fortunate to visit every week, somewhat very disappointed to note that over space of one week period between July and August (to coincide with school holiday, hmmmm) that prices went up by 10p per cone and portion size reduced by 30%

What a hidden gem on the A30 near Honiton.Set just off a lay by and down in a field with stunning views of East Devon this modern building is stunning but not as stunning as the food and service.Family run business and it shows, couldn't have been anymore welcoming.Had a sausage sarnie that was to die for.Didnt have one of their award winning ice creams but I know how good they are and you won't be disappointed.Outside seating for people with dogs though guide dogs allowed inside.Get close to the cows and nature.Definately coming back for more.

What a fantastic place! Never knew it existed until a friend recommended. Lovely clean place and a menu to drool over. Food was amazing and a great selection. Then to end up home made ice cream from their own cows with flavours to die for.........! Counting the days till I can return. Faultless.

We’re local in Honiton and decided to try the field kitchen for an ice cream. Really disappointed at the value for money aspect, a very (very) small amount of ice cream for £2.70!! Added to the size issue(!!) we also found the level of flies in the hall area really quite unacceptable we were continually batting them away to the point we retired to our car. Couldn’t/wouldn’t recommend this place. Far better Artisan ice cream in Honiton high street!!!

Really lovely surprise to find this place - food fresh and homemade, healthy options - service happy and helpful- loos all sparkling- garden field or inside to eat ( outside bench tables and can have your dog ) Food delicious and prompt

The ice cream was lovely and creamy with a nice flavour, very refreshing on a sunny day. Would definitely recommend!

Popped in for a takeaway coffee and ended up staying for breakfast and then ice cream! Somewhat calorific but very good. Food was tasty which we enjoyed on one of the outside tables looking out over the fields of cows. Some serious investment has gone into this place with a spacious oak framed dining area with a lot of glazing to take in the views. So much nicer than the chain coffee shops.

We wouldn't normally stop quite so soon after setting off on our journey home from Bude but we made a detour to drop a friend off and by the time we got to this area we were ready to eat. So glad we stopped here as it is a lovely clean and tidy new building with immaculate 'washroom' facilities, plenty of space between tables and a beautiful view over the hills. We ordered our food straight away and it was served quite quickly. The menu is mostly pizzas and sandwiches/soups/salads/cakes with breakfasts served until 11.30am. My Hawaiian style pizza with pulled pork and apple sauce was delicious. The staff were all friendly and helpful and I would highly recommend a visit.

What a find! Beautiful barn with glass walls with amazing views and fabulous food. We had a wood fired pizza and the best gooseberry ice cream I can imagine! Will make a point of always stopping enroute to the West Country - great place for a party too! Designed to be wheel chair friendly and well landscaped.

We were staying locally and popped in several times for an ice cream, sat outside with the cows! Well worth a stop if you're in the area

We visited around lunchtime on a July weekday; despite this, the car park was nearly full (though could have overflowed into the adjacent lay-by). (Be sure to check their web site for location.)

We called in here on the way back to Otter Falls where we were staying. I can only comment on the ice cream as we did not eat here. It was a lovely day. We sat outside with our dog, I was not sure if dogs were allowed in or not. We chose to sit outside. It looked really clean inside and you could see a lovely pizza oven. If I was passing again I would definitely have a pizza

This place has it all: delicious food and a beautiful building set in a dramatic landscape. Make sure you stop off to enjoy all this place has to offer...you won't be disappointed.

I stopped here for a rest whilst driving back from the West Country, and I will be stopping here on future trips rather than where I had been stopping for a rest. The tea rooms are very clean and spacious, and the outside seating plentiful. But the best thing here is the large range of excellent ice creams, which were a life saver on a hot day. I found the staff to be very friendly

We come here every summer when we visit Devon. This summer the ice cream kiosk is no longer a kiosk; it’s a full blown cafe with lovely setting!

We were driving home from Plymouth and my mum had told us that we had to stop for an ice cream when we were driving out of Monkton. She made us think we were going to pull up to a small lay-by shack shed, so we were surprised when we saw a modern and fancy building, with beautiful fields around it and lovely cows happily grazing and snoozing outside.

Nice food and seriously good ice-cream but surprisingly dog-unfriendly. Odd in such a rural setting. Dogs are allowed but must remain outdoors on a lead and only one or two tables are sheltered. So if you've got a dog you can't help feeling a bit unwelcome. Shame, because otherwise the standard is pretty high.

Always found food stops on the A303 to be pretty poor so it's nice to have another option. Excellent brownie. Not all perfect though - small cup of tea, not helpful when travelling and thirsty, and service was very slow. You have to order drinks and then wait for them to be brought to the table, instead of them being made on the spot. 15 mins wait for a tea and coffee wasn't good. Unfortunately it isn't dog friendly, they are only allowed outside, so not much good if it's raining and/ or cold.

Visited for coffee and ice cream. Smart and very stylish new timber-framed restaurant with a great range of foods, Staff very pleasant and helpful.

We made a special visit (30 mile round trip) to Otter Valley as we were always big fans before the new building was in place and was keen to try it. On arrival, parking was easy. As we walked down the hill, the queue for the ice cream was way out the door and we waited for at least 15 mins before being served and think the portions are much smaller than when it was just the hut. The mint choc was also quite icy.They need to have extra staff on during peak hours, as we were also queued in direct sunlight.. not so bad in May but will not be nice in June/July

We stopped here on our way back from Devon, mainly as we fancied some ice cream. However when we arrived we were quickly drawn to the pizza menu. I had the goats cheese special and my husband had the carnivore. Both were thin and crispy and very tasty. They were so big we couldn't squeeze any ice cream in. Staff were really friendly and service was quick too. The views from the resturant were also stunning and a really nice atmosphere. This defo beats stopping at Starbucks on A303 any day... My new fav Devon stop.

Stopped here on way back from Devon as friends had heard it was good. We weren't disappointed. Great choice of ice creams available either a tub or a cone. They were delicious. Home made pizzas looked great too.

My son and I stopped off here on the way back from Plymouth and really pleased we did. The restaurant/ cafe is in a beautiful oak building with glass looking across some lovely countryside. The car pack was full but there was a lay-by where we parked easily. We selected a table and chose off the menu, ordered at the counter and then really enjoyed our lunch and table service. Food was fresh and tasty, pizzas looked appetising too. There was a constant stream of customers buying the ice creams and looked fab.

You really have to try this place if you are passing - it has not been open long (i think?) but now is absolutely great - i have not had the food here but from what i could see on peoples plates, the wood fired pizzas looked fantastic - we went for ice cream. Loved the flavours particularly the Seabuckthorn (try it for a change) and the rice pudding/jam flavour. Even got take out tubs!! Superb!

Amazing place to stop on the A30 - ice cream is just fantastic, and the bacon sandwiches are to die for! Pizzas looked to be really good - from the on-site pizza oven. Beautiful building with lovely views and very clean,modern toilets. Definitely visiting here again, whenever I get the chance!

Really great location, easy to access off the A30. The views were amazing too! The pizzas were delicious as was the salad and the ice cream for desert was perfect! Really friendly staff and a great place for lunch/dinner.

My wife and I decided to pop out to Otter Valley on Saturday for breakfast. Sadly we were running late and got there at 11.45 when the finish doing breakfast at 11.30.
