This quirky little al fresco dining spot was a joy, even in the pouring rain! Very friendly staff made us feel welcome and the food was incredible! Best olives I’ve ever tasted, the ham croquette with blackberry was a revelation, the pollock was soft and juicy and the pork rib-eye so melt in the mouth. Very reasonable price too, could not recommend enough!

The service was abysmal. We didn’t get asked for our drinks order until about 20 minutes in. We grabbed a waiters attention but she told us her colleague would take our order, he didn’t, she ended up coming back later to take it. No one asked us for our food order, we had to ask multiple times. Our food didn’t come for an hour, despite us booking a 1.5 hour slot. We weren’t offered a complimentary drink or anything. They only gave us 6 of our 7 dishes but charged us for all of it. When the bill came, they had left their discretionary tip on! I then had to tell them we weren’t going to pay it. They had to refund us for our cokes after realising they had only given us 6/7 dishes. The dishes were small and we went away feeling hungry despite paying over £70 for dinner and one bottle of wine. I would never go back. The food was average and the service was bad.

Phenomenal! Wanted to try for quite sometime and did not regret it! lunch time (it’s preferably less busy). The waiting staff (unfortunately forgot her name) was super friendly and attentive. The decoration and atmosphere are great (empty feels a bit cold tough), the toilets on the lower ground have a surround back sound with some birds which is pretty cool. The menu comes in 2 options which you can combine, the daily suggestions and the lunch menu with a wide variety of small dishes, all with excellent look, quality and tasty! Well done you, will def recommend and return!

Having been open for a couple of years or so now, this is our second visit to this restaurant on the popular Chandos Road and is divided in to two halves with one side set up for more formal fine dining, and the other more casual. We were in the more formal side, and had the choice of a four course or two course menu. This setup seemed a bit odd I thought – with the two course, you could have a starter and main, or a main and desert. Why can’t you have all three if you wanted? And the four course was a fixed menu, other than the main, which you could choose. But all the other courses were fixed. Again, this seemed a little odd as the dishes were just picked from the two course menu, not anything different for the four course. My wife (understandably!) didn’t like the sounded of Jerusalem artichoke for pudding so asked if she could swap it for the rice pudding from the two course menu. They agreed we could, but the overall impression was that they were a little put out by this. We opted for the four course, and I can’t help thinking they’re underselling themselves a bit here. With a couple of pre-starters and a pre-desert, they could easily call it a six course, and may restaurants would. First up was sourdough with buerre noisette, house cured coppa and a seaweed broth. All was very good, the butter adding a great flavour to the bread, and the cold meat being very tasty. The broth was perfectly ok, although slightly less exciting perhaps. Next was salsify with shitake mushrooms, XO and confit yolk. This was very good indeed, a great flavour from the mushrooms and the XO (which I assume was the sauce from Hong Kong rather than the cognac, although this was not made clear) and the egg yolk was very unusual in that it was a really deep red colour, almost like a tomato. Then on to starters proper which was market fish baked in kombu with monks beard, sprouts and herb jus. Like many people I’m really not a sprout fan, but here it was just a few leaves so not too bad. The rest of the dish was again very, very good and a surprisingly generous portion as we were now on the third course. We both opted for the pork belly for main and this was smoked over Cuban coals and served with beetroot and aubergine. At the risk of being repetitive, this too was very good, with some great (i.e.; very crispy!) crackling and really tasty beetroot. A pre-desert of blood orange with ginger and horopito (similar to black pepper apparently, I had to look that one up) was very refreshing and then on to that rather bizarre pudding of Jerusalem artichoke with chocolate, malt and thyme. The artichoke was in fact just a blob of mousse, which I thought had not much in the way of taste, although what there was I wasn’t particularly keen on. My wife tried a spoonful though and really didn’t like it at all, so she was very glad she swapped to the rice pudding. This was just one component of three or four on the plate though, and the rest were very good, so overall, another good dish. I thought that this was a very good meal, one of the best I have had for a while. If I were being critical I’d say that some of the service was a little amateurish (perhaps our waitress was just rather inexperienced) and it’s not cheap with a 10% service charge slapped on top your not inconsiderable bill. Overall though, well worth a visit.

Heard good things about this place so gave it a try on a Saturday night. Layout and space is quirky ( though no art on the walls in the dining area which is very un-Bristol) but very nice. Menu is set price, we took the starter and main for £25 with a beer and a bottle of vinho verde, total bill just shy of £100. Not sure I understand the cocktail thing before a meal but we skipped them . I had salsify and shitake starter , my partner had the soba and pickled mussels followed by the guinea fowl and catch of the day ( Pollock) . It was all delicious but it has to be said the portions were tiny . There was no option to order any extras or sides and we left hungry . I’d have happily paid more for a bit more food ,whether that be bigger portions or the option to add an accompaniment. Interestingly we went for a drink across the road and got talking to some locals who said it’s a familiar topic with people who go for an after meal tipple. So for quality it’s a clear 5 but as an overall it scrapes a 4. And one last niggle, I’ll tip what I feel is due and don’t like the assumption it’ll be 10% and add it automatically please .

We visited for a valentine's meal. Otira had a fixed menu (7 courses I think) for the evening, and we could not fault any one of the dishes. Perfectly cooked and some amazing tastes and flavours coming through. It was a real delight to eat. Once we had sat down, very attentive staff. It was a little choatic on arrival trying to clear tables and get the next sitting under way, which would suggest not quite prepared for the busy Valentines evening. But we wouldn't want this to distract from the wonderful menu and food served. thank you for a delightful evening

Three of us had dinner in the tiny restaurant on Thursday 11th July. The food was delicious. The young waitresses were delightful and efficient. The food took a very long time to arrive from the kitchen. We imagined the chef was taking immense care cutting gooseberries in half and fiddling with pea-shoots. There are many restaurants in Bristol that now do equally good food. So the whole dining experience has to be thought about. We did not have an enjoyable evening because the restaurant was so noisy. Most of the noise was coming from the next table where a party of young men were having a terrific time. We eventually asked them, in a perfectly friendly and polite way, if they could be a little less noisy. One of them came and told us how rude we were. Well, from their point of view we must have seemed like old kill joys, and they certainly took offence at our request. So it is not a restaurant for anyone who would like to be able to talk to their dining companions without having to shout their heads off and thereby adding to the noise level.

The food was less so and the service on both occasions pleasant but far too slow for both drinks and food. Yesterday my son had scallops and it was his birthday! Three hours later he had severe abdominal pain and vomiting repeatedly. We called the restaurant the next day. Although offering an apology they were somewhat unconcerned, 'not my problem mate' attitude and did not deal with the issue in an appropriate way, a sign of success. We just love Chandos Social! The best tapas we've tried in North Bristol (notably the Bone Marrow Burgers and Pork Empanadas). Always a lovely warm welcome from Catherine and her team, really enjoy sitting at the bar working our way through the tapas and wine/sherry...

Having discovered Otira earlier this year we are now regular visitors and also visit Chandos Social for great South American inspired tapas, in a relaxed and friendly environment. Both have now become two of our favourite regular ‘go to’ restaurants in Bristol. Otira offers great...

There are 2 great places to eat here. Chandos Social is a small high end tapas bar which serves “Argentinian tapas” with seasonal locally sourced ingredients and greater inventiveness than your average tapas place. Great friendly service, interesting cocktails and bar treats and a good...

We had a good evening with excellent waiting staff, lively music and mostly good food. Plus does forget the rum list.!One of the best in the UK. The day before we just sat at the bar working through the rums. Food was thoroughly cooked, our favourites being the prawns, jerk chicken the oxtail and both rice dishes. The salads were nice and fresh. We thought the stamp and go could have been spicier with the salted cod more tender and the curry goat needed a bit more curry powder. However, despite these quibbles I wish we had a place like this closer to home.
