Othello Restaurant in Great Yarmouth

We were on holiday I great yarmouth and choose to dine here after reading the reviews, we were not disappointed from calling to make a reservation to the final bill everything was perfect we were made to feel extremely welcome from the moment we arrived until we left nothing was too much trouble the staff were attentive and knew the menu well, the prices are very good and the food OMG absolutely stunning my husband ordered the "medium" size rib eye i have never seen a steak that size in my life they even serve you your vegetables and potatoes onto your plate its been a long time since a restaurant gave silver service as standard we could not fault a single thing would 1000% recommend to anyone, if we are ever back in great yarmouth orthello is THE place to go

Always a pleasure to eat at this restaurant Great service and food they know how to run a great restaurant. The choice of food is good and some are great reminders of time gone by ( in a nice way)

This place has seriously gone downhill. We waited over 40 minutes for a table and wasn’t even offered a drink. The owner Michael only cares about catering for big family tables when it’s busy. The food has also gone downhill. I used to like this place but not any more. Also the place needs a good clean up. Give some of Yarmouths other restaurants a try who deserve more trade than wasting your time home. It’s well over priced !

I’ve been going here for many years when in Great Yarmouth and have always been very pleased with the food and service. The prawn cocktail is the best I’ve ever had and is a meal in itself. The staff are great and very attentive. Reasonably expensive but well worth it. Great choice on menu. Would definitely recommend.

Once again.. just perfect. Food is excellent, Steak and lobster cooked to perfection. We lived in London since teenage years and trust me this restaurant excels beyond the usual Greek cuisine. Tasty , fresh, well presented and delicious food. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Absolutely amazing

A lovely place, and a wonderful meal. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Thank you for making it a great dining experience at a reasonable price. This place was recommended to us by the guys at the tattoo studio. We were told if we wanted a great meal to try Othello's. We went in to try and book a table and were welcomed in with open arms. I would definitely recommend this restaurant . Garlic mushrooms for both, I had gammon and pineapple, and my husband had a medium steak, all really delicious.

Our dining experience at Othello was excellent. The food was superb! The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for you. As for Mike, he's amazing. Fun, friendly, warm, caring. Love that guy.

Excellent experience for 4 of my colleagues and myself. From start to finish, the greeting as we entered, immediate seating available despite being busy, attentive staff, the food was freshly prepared and delicious and the farewell at the end made it an overall excellent choice.

Food was really lovely. Atmosphere was good. Staff were lovely. Restaurant could do with a few fans as it was warm inside.

Michael and his team are second to none. We have been visiting this restaurant for 30 years. The food here is exceptional. One of the Few spots in the country you can get authentic Tournedos Rossini. the range of dishes stretches from traditional food to Lobster Bisque. Staff are switched on polite and friendly. If your having a special occasion Michael and his team will make it even more special.

Mike, the owner and his staff were on point, Othello's had been suggested to us by just about every local foodie. And to make life easier, we agreed to go early 17.30, it very soon filled up. I ordered lobster in a cheese sauce then Mike suggested I have the Thermidor, as a chef of 30+ years, I agreed. I was offered a choice of 3 ranging from £40+ to £70+ I chose the middle £60ish. The lobster was perfectly cooked but had absolutely no flavour I'm afraid to say even with extra salt as I thought the chef may have deliberately under seasoned. I think next time I would choose a steak which everyone told me are excellent, especially Andy who loves their tornados Rossini. Next time 😉

Rang up the restaurant to see if there would be a table available within half an hour of calling. Was told there would be and to come sooner rather than later. (2 adults/2 children) Got to the restaurant, waited to be welcomed. When approached, the owner/lead waiter assumed we were walk-ins and said they were busy and said people were waiting at the bar for a table. I mentioned we had booked and he looked panicked. He sat us down at a table near the door. Waitress dropped off two menus and I had to ask for a children’s menu. Whilst we looked at the menus, another group of people came to the doorway and said they hadn’t booked but were going to sit outside. The owner welcomed them and said ok, before mentioning they were busy and there would be a wait for food. We lasted all of 10 minutes in the place as we suspected we would have been there for far too long just to order and eventually get our food, and ended up all being quite irritated. So I can’t comment on the food. The thing that bugged me the most was assuming we were walk-ins instead of being asked if we had booked. Why agree to a booking if you know you are already super busy and can’t accommodate. It also felt odd the other group just walked in and sat outside with no questions/issue. Was really disappointed as having read the reviews, I was hoping for a similar experience.

Would 100% recommend u go here. Haven’t been in years and oh my god the food is amazing, the staff was so lovely and help full went for my 21th birthday meal and it was perfect the size of the food is well though the money

This was not my first time here by any means but thought that this time it really did deserve a 5 stars review!! It's always been 5 stars but this time just that bit more, Michael the owner and host who again is always awesome just step it up again, I'm a massive steak eater ans I've tried places all over the country but always come back to this place for my Fillet as for me it's the best I have ever eaten and that's some saying!! The chips are the best and all the little extra bits really make it what it is, The crab claws are a must to start with extra garlic so it can be mopped up by the bread after, Yum Yum!! For me it's a large 10oz Fillet medium rare with extra garlic, we always have extra asparagus and extra spinach/Cream/Garlic on the side!! All the sauces are brilliant but if you like a mustard kick then try the monkey glands sauce on the side!!! Unreal!!! There is a brilliant wine list and as always little tipple at the end with Michael as a Thankyou!! We are booked again this Thursday and can't wait!!!

AMAZING FOOD SERVICE & STAFF AND ATMOSPHERE!!! I can’t believe that I’ve only just discovered this absolutely gem of a restaurant last night. I’ve been going to Great Yarmouth now for about 20 years and we only ended up finding Othello when having to search for another steak house after were disappointed to find out that our usual restaurant was closed for the evening, however, the disappointment was forgotten within 2 minutes of walking into Othello. We received a warm welcome by the owner Michael and shown to the bar area whilst a table was prepared for us, where I was introduced and offered to try their locally brewed draft lager (LRG) as I hadn’t heard of it before, turns out that is delicious, to me it was somewhere in between beer and lager and went down a treat, so I would also highly recommend that you try it. Whilst waiting we were given menus and plenty of time to decide what to choose, although it was an easy decision for me when I saw the Fillet Steak and Kings Prawn, I’ll be honest, it wasn’t cheap at £42 but as the saying goes “you get what you pay for” and I can honestly say that without question that it was the best meal I’ve ever had!!! I can’t really afford to eat out at this amazing level these days, buy it was a bit of a treat and I’ll certainly be saving up my pennies so I can visit here again next year.. A massive thank you to Michael and his brilliant lovely team and not just because of the food, but also for creating the environment for a genuinely fantastic overall experience. If there was an option to give you 10 stars I’d have given it. I wish you every success that your restaurant truly deserves, and we very much look forward to coming back in the future. PS Lilly said that the spaghetti bolognaise was the best she has ever had and that it was so much better than what I make. Blown away by the awful attitude of a member of staff, who I assume was the manager/owner, thinking his 1950's humour is acceptable and funny. Dining with a family, various comments were made by said staff to get the women to do the washing up, and total unprofessionalism on so many levels. And I'm not one to be easily offended. A chauvinistic, 2nd hand car salesman working in a restaurant with incredibly over priced food. Its a no from me!!!

The food was absolutely fantastic I can safely say this. The only issues I have was the fact you have to order your food in a waiting area before you sit down for your table… very strange and didn’t like this. Also the male staff member (can only assume the owner) was clearly drunk and being very loud around his local regulars. For a tourist in area was far to loud to sit back and relax whilst eating your food as all you was hearing was regulars being loud and drinking loads.

The steak is sooo good! I asked for medium and it was cooked soo well. It was well seasoned too. My partner ordered the spaghetti bolognase and it was huge :D even though we couldn’t finish it, I can say that it was one of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten. Perfect of a date night btw

First day of opening since lockdown. A complete cess-pit. When I pointed out the the switches near the entrance were marked with dirt I was told not to worry they had been decorating. Closer inspection showed that cleaning was clearly the last thing they had been doing. Thank goodness their card machine didn't work. As we only had cards we left to eat elsewhere. I most definitely would NOT recommend this establishment. What a lucky escape we had.

First time at Orthello Restaurant Great Yarmouth The meal was first class, steak cooked perfect, the service second to none, I wish I was staying in Great Yarmouth longer so we could go back again, I cannot rate highly enough.

My partner & I went to this little gem of a restaurant Michael & Ricky could not do enough, so pleasant, friendly and amazing service. The food was incredible, they do not skimp on portions, I had Sea Bass, they were huge! Perfectly cooked, beautifully presented. Would very highly recommend anyone to visit, you will not be disappointed A definite 5* Rating from us.

First meal was stunning booked again but was let down because according to owner staff wanted to watch football but was failed to be notified until I turned up at pre booked time to find it closed ! Not too impressed!

Had a wander along the seafront tonight, looking for somewhere to eat, but not fast food and we certainly found it. We hadn’t booked and it was very busy when we arrived but directed to the bar area and served drinks with a promise of a table soon. We decided to forfeit the starter as hubby was going for the large mixed grill and it really didn’t disappoint!! There was lots of it and cooked to perfection. I had the chicken princess which was beautiful. We were both too full for desserts. The staff were really friendly and attentive without being obtrusive, we had a lovely evening and may possibly be back before the end of the week to sample more of the menu.

We were staying at the Hotel Ocean next door and they recommended this restaurant to us. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary the restaurant owner Michael and his staff were great, the menu is extensive and you really are spoilt for choice! We both started with Garlic Prawns followed by Steak with all the trimmings and a choice of potatoes and a lovely bottle of South Eastern Australian Shiraz. The atmosphere was lively friendly and the service great nothing was too much we had a great evening.

We spent a fabulous evening here last night. Michael and his team were great hosts, despite it being a very busy evening. The giant prawns in garlic butter were superb. The fillet steak and accompaniments (particularly the sautéed potatoes) were fantastic. We really enjoyed ourselves and can see why this restaurant is so popular with locals and visitors alike.

We visited this over the weekend and when we first arrived we were very warmly greeted by Michael the owner. He apologised as the kitchen had just closed (it was very late) and kindly asked what type of food we liked. He then directed us to another amazing restaurant which we really enjoyed. We returned to his restaurant the next day and it didn’t disappoint at all. Not only did he remember us, but also asked if we visited the other restaurant the night before, giving it high praise. The ambience, food, and service was truly wonderful. We will definitely be back x

The food was ok, nothing to write home about, the owner and the waiter were nice chaps and made you feel welcome.

Treat minors like absolute slaves and then jokes and laughs about it in there face while the minors they pay literaly pence per hour cant even afford basics like food and haircuts.i remember working 12 hours a day 6 days a week from around 5pm to anywhere between 1 and 5 am for these people and gettin at most £90 per week plus my dinner everday and as much alcohol as i could drink(i was living in a B&B at only 15 years old) i also had my private area grabed on atleast 2 occasions by the owner it was many years ago but the same people still own it so its still very valid.all the girls i worked with at the time were great the chef was great it was just the slimey waiter/owner that was the problem for me maybe 1 day ill be brave enough to report to the authorities but unlikely tbh.im sure the man in question will read this and i hope you atleast have some remorse but i feel your arrogance wont allow

We had dinner at the restaurant during the May bank holiday weekend. The ambience of the place is rather rustic and interiors very basic. The food was ok, but what killed us was the waiting time for the bill. It took them almost 45 minutes to process the bill after dinner and the staff were rather indifferent to guests waiting for long for their bills.

Fabulous restaurant outstanding food and service everytime !! Family favourite restaurant visited many times over the years, the food is amazing always to the same great standard warm friendly atmosphere! And unlike many places can handle large group booking giving the best service and food.

Wow, what a night!! First time visited this establishment. We had a 50th birthday for my mother and the whole experience was exceptional. Michael the owner has allowed us to bring in a cake and balloons. Michael and his staff have decorated the table themselves it looked amazing. The staff are very polite and attentive naturally which makes it much more pleasant. The food is to die for, has to be the best restaurant in town. The quality of the food is out of this world. You get a choice of potatoes with your meal for free with vegetable garnish which is an addition as some places in town you order them separately. At the end of the night Theo the head chef (sorry if I got the name wrong) has came to our table and asked us if we have enjoyed our meals very polite and again clearly they care about their customers and their dining experience. Michael the owner has bought us a birthday drink on the house which was very nice of him. Will definitely be back.... Well done Team Othellos😊😊

We stayed at a hotel not far from this restaurant. we booked a table for two never a again when we arrived we were taking to the back of the restaurant ask to take a seat even there was empty seats. there was a party of six waiting to be seated. we ordered before the party of six all six got there food before us. and the food wasn't worth waiting for should of refused to pay. the restaurant was very Very dated who ever done the painting well I could of done a better job with my eyes closed

What a proper restaurant this is. Superb host and service delivering exceptional food and a great wine list at very reasonable prices. I did not expect such a find in Great Yarmouth. Will be booking in again next time we are racing here!

The staff is rude and provides poor service. They become angry if you don’t close the door in time. Their doors have significant issues with opening and closing properly. You may find yourself locked in the toilet, and the staff simply pretends not to hear anything if you loudly call for help.

We were highly recommended this restaurant by our taxi driver as we came into Great Yarmouth for the weekend. We had booked to go to the Smokehouse the day later so we weren't sure if we fancied steak, but took a chance and so glad we did! The food was spectacular, honestly one of the best meals I've had in a long time. What really made the night though was the service. Our waiter was a delight, really genuinely good company, got on our level making jokes, was interested hearing about our holiday and made good conversation. This restaurant is a must visit for anyone in Great Yarmouth!

We were visiting GY for my partner's birthday and our Airbnb host recommended Othellos. I'm am absolutely thrilled they did, too! We had the most stunning meal, the staff are so friendly and attentive. I even asked if they had a candle to celebrate my partner's birthday. They didn't, I stead we had a birthday themed song playing whist they lit the most amazing sparkler thing!! Incredible service. I wish we lived less than 4 hours away!

The best food in the borough of Great Yarmouth. Michael the Front of House and owner is exceptional and can’t do enough to please you. Always smiling, attentive and on hand when needed. The steak is so perfectly cooked, soft and easy to cut. The flavours are exceptional I can’t recommend Othellos high enough

A very honest review , We decided to book here for a meal last evening me and my partner. The restaurant seemed quite busy so that was a good sign. I had garlic mushrooms to start I have to say they were very oily as they were sitting in a bowl of garlic butter, the bread they were served with was just placed on top of the garlic butter so it was completely soggy!! Other than that the starter was very nice and my partner had the crab claws.(also very nice) For the mains my parter had fillet steak. (Absolutely perfect in every way) I had the lamb. My lamb was a 5 out of 10, certain bits were really tender and nice but other parts were extremely chewy and inedible. I actually left 3/4 of the Meal (they were very good and allowed me to plate the rest is up to take home for my dog) After what appeared to be a great start to the evening a large group of girls turned up who where swearing effing and blinding and being ridiculously loud to the point me and my partner had to leave this restaurant as we felt so uncomfortable. Definitely not the one for a nice quiet meal.

One of the best restaurants in Great Yarmouth. Great food, amazing service and a nice little venue. Micheal is a great host and makes everyone feel welcome and can't do enough for you. Steaks are amazing, mixed grill is my favourite. All round a nice place for all occasions.

Worst experience ever! We booked for my birthday, as it was recommended on Google s an Italian restaurant it turned out to be Greek!! We arrived at 7:30 the time we had booked we were left standing in the doorway with the door open, it was cold & raining. We were eventually lead to the bar area after 15 minutes. We the waited here for anther 45 minutes the waiter was rude and kept complaining that he only had one pair of hands. he wanted us to order our meal whilst waiting at the bar! We refused as we wanted to have a special birthday meal and not feel like we were an inconvenience. Eventually after an hour wait (there were plenty of empty tables, the staff were just so disorganised, running around like headless chickens) we were seated at a dirty dirty table and the menus were lobbed onto the dirty table. We got up and left. I would not recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy!

You will be pushed to get a better meal or better service anywhere compared to the service and quality of food at this restaurant. We were on holiday about 1/2hr from this restaurant and visited on a recommendation from one of the staff where we were staying. I stated with mussels and then had the biggest skate I have ever seen. My daughter chose from the the Greek selection and the lamb was cooked to perfection in the Greek way (My father is Cypriot). The grand children were catered for excellently. Well done.

It's the first time I have been to Othello's it was a surprise 60th Birthday dinner for my partner all I can say is i was blown away by the selection and quality of food there was 6 off us and we all had something different the service was first class and they couldn't do enough for us especially my partner who was made to feel very special the atmosphere was also great it was our first visit but it won't be our last I would certainly recommend this excellent restaurant to anyone.

We came to this restaurant and had an amazing meal. We had the seabass with green beans and sauté potatoes. Delicious. I would recommend this place. Amazing atmosphere. Staff so attentive. The place to eat in great Yarmouth. And on the sea front!!!

I have been in catering and the licensed trade all my life I am now in my 70’s the food served to my wife and I on our Aniversary was incredible, service and atmosphere fantastic, it just doesn’t get any better, use my lifetime experience, go and try it you will be amazed how good you feel during and after your meal. We live over 50 miles away but we will be back as often as we can. Thank you Othello for a superb night

On a stroll around Great Yarmouth we were looking for somewhere to eat. The board outside offered a good choice of food and I spotted tournedos Rossini , my favourite meal. So we decided to give it a try. We couldn’t have chosen a better place. The food was incredible. Hugh portions of very high quality food. The staff were so attentive and friendly. I couldn’t fault a single thing! Thanks for a lovely evening

Looked for somewhere special to eat , decided to try here . Menu board looked appealing. It was amazing, biggest sirloin I’d ever had . Everything about the place was amazing. Very clean , staff were very friendly and welcoming. Very highly recommended

Lovely wine food service and ambiance

If you like lobster or steak this is a really lovely place to go. For the price, yes it's expensive however the quality is worth the money! Even the quantity is second to none, very large plates of food packed full of flavour. The service is amazing and all the staff members are very attentive. If you like coffee too, check out their coffee liqueur!

My partner and I had booked for my birthday on the 24.6.23. We was absolutely blown away from start to finish staff and owner where fantastic, And the food was unreal every mouthful was full of flavour we had pate to start (fantastic) I had steak and prawns for main (best meal I've ever had and I've eaten in top restaurants in London) value for money and excellence of food I just cannot recommend enough. Great restaurant. The staff are re4ally friendly and welcoming and the food is excellent. We ate here twice while we were in Yarmouth and it takes some beating. I doubt you will be disappointed if you eat here.
