Cafe Cru Restaurant in Great Yarmouth

We’re staying in a nearby holiday park for the weekend. We drive out and found this place. I have to say we were really happy with the food and service. We had no booking however they had space for us and our 2 children. The waiter Danny asked the children their names and every time he spoke to them he called them by name which I think was a really nice touch. I had the liver and bacon and the wife had the chicken and wild mushrooms. Both cooked to perfection. Would definitely recommend.

Dined here three times while staying at the hotel. Cafe Cru is a great restaurant, the food is excellent, and Danny and the team are very friendly and will look after you. The food prices are very reasonable. Will be back later in the year.

My husband and I ordered 2 different starters and both the monkfish for a main. My duck was delicious; so tender. Hubby's salt cod fish cake was good too. We really enjoyed the monk fish and the wine list is extensive and varied. We would have loved a dessert, but we were both too full. Perhaps next time, as there will definitely be one. Service was excellent. The choice of menu was great. Not just your usual boring choices and it is also dog friendly. Unpretentious, but nevertheless with that attention to detail. So nice to get a fish knife and Arthur Price cutlery. It just feels so much better in your hand and with food served on attractive plates. Our compliments to the chef.

Had my daughter 16th birthday dinner here with the family. The food and service were excellent, but the restaurant could do with a bit of a facelift.

Delicious food, served in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere with good background music too. Fillet steak and fish and chips highly recommended. The pineapple upside down pudding was scrumptious. Danny was a charming host and definitely an asset to the restaurant, if you’re in Yarmouth make sure you pop in, you won’t regret it.

Very good food and more of an excellent restaurant with hotel attached. Danny the head waiter was efficient and charming! Highly recommend.

The whole experience was surprisingly delightful! We thought it was just another old fashioned seaside hotel with a restaurant. This is a restaurant with a hotel attached! The food was delicious, the service from Danny, the head man and Adam the new trainee on his second day was exemplary, and a tad over the top, in a truly lovely way. Hot plates and willing to cope with our quirkiness (eg cremated chips) and the executive chef (Peter) was kind enough to come to our table for feedback on his new Spring menu. He was so engaging and interested in our comments. So unusual I find! Thank you. Highly recommend x Thank you!

I took my partner here for her birthday meal and the food and service was amazing.. the lady that served up was the best service I have had she was so lovely and the food was amazing and best steak I've had.. which was greatas was planning on purposing to my other half after the meal so it really was the perfect evening.. when we re visit yarmouth again in the future we will definitely be going back. We haven’t visited for years and came in December for steak. The steak was delicious and the service was brilliant. Danny was a excellent host along with the waitress. We enjoyed it so much and decided to book for Sunday lunch in January. We had Sunday lunch there today and the roast beef was delicious and again the service was great. They remembered us from our visit in December. For a quality restaurant the prices are good.

Booked last minute for a business dinner with guests from Brazil hoping that the restaurant would be okay. Upon arrival we were immediately made to feel very welcome. Service was superb, quick but not too overbearing. The various dishes were superb. I had the steak and normally steaks in the UK are no where near the quality I see when on business on the continent. This was different and I can honestly say, the best steak I’ve had in the UK. Cooked to perfection, really tender and no gristle. Our guests had booked into another hotel close by but took one look and left. As an added bonus I arranged for all four to stay at The Imperial for two nights, all booked with reception whilst we were dining. Thank you for a great meal and for saving the day with accommodation too.

Fish dishes are delicious. Other than the crazy serving, I recommend it.

Been looking for somewhere to go for an anniversary meal while on holiday and tonight we tried the cafe cru, the staff were very warm and friendly and the food was excellent, we are very much creatures of habit and when we find a place we love we return time and time again, our 2024 visit is already booked. Very highly recommended.

I've been coming to Cafe Cru for about 17 years now. If we go back some years, I'd have given 5 stars and written a rave review. However, the last 3 times I've been have been poor. Very poor. Visit one was a group of about 12 for afternoon tea on the terrace. Despite plenty of notice, the wait time was excessive (45 mins for a few finger sandwiches and cakes). I found plastic wrap on a sandwich and found the food hard (no doubt pre-made and chilled?) and far too little in quantity. Visit two, evening meal for 5. Again, portion size had shrunk in a big way. No exaggeration, I had two desserts and still arrived home hungry. For the prices charged, I'd expect better. Visit 3 was a group of 18 for a single course dinner. A catalogue of problems ensued. Three times, staff had to check how steaks were to be cooked. Drinks arrived incorrect. One diner was cancelled with 2 weeks notice of the booking, yet his meal was prepared and presented. Had to be taken off the bill. Two coffee cups were sent back as they had lipstick on them from previous use. Two people had fillet steak and complained they were tough (for forty quid this shouldn't be the case). Portion sizes again! So small. Again, not an exaggeration, I ordered take away when I got home. The entire party agreed portions are just not enough. A food bill of just under £450 and people going home not-full just isn't on. I know there's a cost crisis going on and all that, but you can't charge top tier prices and deliver sub-par food. Nearly thirty quid for butter beef which was 4 strips of meat and a mini shepherds pie which on a previous visit was pulled beef, this time mince meat. Simply not value for money. Sorry to say it as Grant and the team are great, but I won't be returning any time soon. A shame as this has been our go-to for many years.

Lovely gluten free fish n chips.. Danny the manager always goes out of his way to accommodate people with food allergies. Excellent food, lovely staff and a very clean restaurant. The food was excellent, and we really enjoyed it, however I feel the service was a bit hit and miss, out table was cleared after our starters and we were waiting for our mains a while when I member of staff came across and said our order had not been put through, she apologised and said it would be out ASAP. The plates from our main course were taken and dessert menu's given out after a while order was taken, two ice cream sundaes and a tart with ice-cream, we waited over 30mins for these!

Amazing food, friendly staff. We went for our wedding anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The wild trout was gorgeous and the trio of pork was succulent and flavoursome. The crab fishcake starter was divine.

Really unexpectedly superb restaurant underneath the hotel. We went for the chicken and triple pork, but having looked at the other review pictures, some of those options look even better. You wont be let down

What a gem of a place! Returned to Norfolk 30 years after honeymooning on the Broads and chose café cru to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was sublime and Danny and Ed looked after us so well. Highly recommended! Thank you for making our evening special.

We were staying at the Imperial Hotel and decided to eat in. We are so glad we did! It was a Sunday night so a little quiet and we were accommodated in a drawing room near the hotel bar. We had the full Cafe Cru menu to choose from, extremely friendly service, and our delight in the hotel itself was matched by our wonderful evening meal. The owner is a sommelier, so the wine list was exceptionally well-chosen and reasonably priced for the finer wines, and clearly he has a good sense of top quality dining too. It was an unexpected highlight of our East Anglia tour

Such a great atmosphere and Danny and his Team worked their magic in a very busy restaurant service. No surprise this local restaurant within The Imperial Hotel is so popular, the food, the staff all superb. The new menu has a really good choice and I can highly recommend the Flambe Steak Diane, the best steak ever and a lovely bit of theatre at the table lead by Danny, who is a star. xx

We ate in the restaurant on a Friday evening. The place was busy but the staff managed the room really well. I particularly liked the way iced water was served as soon as you sat and that bottled water was not foisted upon you. This was rapidly followed by a basket of delicious bread. Wines are well chosen, extensive and very reasonably priced. The food was truly delicious. I had the pheasant which is not something often seen on a menu. While all the staff were friendly and attentive; the head waiter, Danni deserves a special mention. He really goes the extra mile to make dinner here an experience to anticipate.

This cosy restaurant has left the best of impressions! The staff was friendly the food was great, fresh and of great quality. The menu can be a little limited but other than that no complaints would definitely recommend.

We were a party of 4 and arrived a bit early for our 9.30am reservation, however, we were shown to our table on the terrace, straight away. We were given menus once seated, and was very impressed by the variety of food available at very reasonable prices. Our order was taken promptly and the food arrived quickly, which was surprising as the restaurant was very busy. The food was delicious, plenty of it, and good quality ingredients. All the staff members met were pleasant, courteous and efficient. The ambiance was nice, and the views out to sea were lovely, it was a bright sunny morning. This was our first time at Cafe Cru for breakfast, and it won’t be our last, very impressed!

The welcome, the service, the elegant comfort of the tables and the excellent food make this a number one choice for a 'grown up' night out. Danny and his team have taken things up a level here and together with the quality food ensures plenty of return customers.

Simply cannot fault the welcome, the atmosphere, the service or the food. Totally blown away by the look and taste of the food This is definitely the best we have ever had in the area. The quality of produce is excellent for the price. The dishes we had were contemporary and expertly cooked without being ‘showy’. We visited Cafe Cru for dinner with friends and our children. We had a wonderful experience, the staff couldn’t do enough for us…..even gave us post-it notes and pens so we could play a game with kids at the end of the night!!! The food was absolutely amazing, so so delicious! Good choice on the menu and every dish was cooked to perfection. If you like your red meat go for the trio of beef…..best thing I’ve eaten in a long time.

Lovely Christmas meal with christmas prices, was slightly disappointed we had no crackers for the table or any decoration to make it feel festive (downstairs only which is where we ate- this is not reflective for the rest of the building) The meal itself was lovely and plentiful and we also had bread for the table which was very nice. The staff were friendly. I'm unlikely to return unless i'm invited for an event.

I have forgotten how many meals I have had in the cru restaurant over the 54 years, it would be well into the hundreds I’m sure, yum yum. ( no exaggeration ). Always a good menu. Highly recommended.

As previously, I had an excellent meal at the cafe cru with some friends. I had Salmon mousse with tarragon to start, followed by coq au vin. All cooked and prepared to perfection. The food never disappoints and neither does the service. All staff are extremely pleasant, courteous and efficient. I have known this restaurant for 6 years now (part of the Imperial Hotel at Great Yarmouth. It never disappoints and in fact, always feels like returning to my family when I visit.

Had the crab starter then steak very well cooked staff were very friendly and polite, stairs will make it difficult for anyone with mobility problems,service was very efficient food was well presented

To avoid the humdrum and loud catering facilities of Yarmouth, we sought refuge in the stylish quietness of Cafe Cru. The menu 'prix fixe' contained interersting dishes, but we were attracted by a few items of the à la carte. We were not disappointed. Especially the 'trio of pork' proved to be a hit, as was the duck starter. Service was friendly, impeccable and competent, a rare feature in too many english resaurants. Only negative: the wine was too warm, but this was promptly remedied.Also deserves mentioning: the very tasty crispy bread served with the meal.

I never thought I would find somewhere in Great Yarmouth serving food of this quality. Wife had trio of pork. I had beef cheeks with truffle mash. Unbelievable tastes. Not expensive either. Also great wine menu and exceptional wine menu. We will visit again on our next trip to Great Yarmouth.

Took my family for an evening meal, food was delicious and staff were really lovely. All four of us loved our starters mains and dessert. Only one downside was one of us ordered a special and presumed that the cost would be similar to all other mains between 15 and 24 pound when the bill came a Dover sole was £30 with potatoes and an extra for peas. Which we had to order after we received the mains, as we was unaware it came with no veg. when you offer a special maybe you should advise to add extras. I would recommend this place as you can not fault the food or service.

We've been using the restaurants in the Imperial for the last 25 years and never been disappointed, always excellent. Good gluten free menu too.

Once again we had the pleasure of eating in the Cafe Cru when visiting Great Yarmouth for the new year.

We booked a table having been to the hotel before but not used the restaurant.

Having used this restaurant throughout the year we booked a table with a group of friends for the Saturday before Christmas. Even though we are all local we were asked to pay a deposit (never had to pay one before). The whole hotel was extremely busy with Christmas Parties which is to be expected. The starters were all very nice however the main courses left a lot to be desired. I ordered a ribeye steak with a peppercorn sauce - unfortunately the steak arrived and it was lukewarm and no peppercorn sauce was forthcoming! One of the party ordered the pork belly - which was mostly fat not meat. Two of the party ordered the Turkey which was very bland and more like what you get served at your office Christmas Party (I know because we have HAD our Christmas parties there!). I really wish I had taken photos!!!! All in all, a very disappointing meal. We did indeed complain and I have now been advised that our whole table has been barred! Two of the party arrived last night to be told this! It seems absolutely incredulous that they cannot accept criticism for what really was sub standard food. They also said we had upset other diners! The only people we spoke to were friends on another table - they are still friends so not sure how they deemed we upset them! I certainly don't want to be putting any more money their way which is normally around £100 per couple so all is good!
