Their card machine made four attempts to take payments and failed and they were unable to print out a Void receipt. My order for £21.20 was entered on one occasion as £84. The staff were quite surly about me insisting on written and signed confirmation that these transactions had all failed. I paid by cash in the end. The fish was OK but the chips are rubbish. Lots of black bits, not cooked properly and tasteless. By the time they had sorted out the payment issue, they had gone cold £10.50 for this, or few yards away a coffee and a freshly cooked Panini for £6.50. Its is no brainer.

Asked for 2 small fish and chips, 1 with curry sauce. Got 2 children's meals, 1 fish nugget each, which was nice, chips were rubbish. Scrappy end bits, which at home would throw in the bin. Not one decent chip. Curry sauce was too hot and chips were swimming in it! Will not use again.

Joined the queue and quite quickly got to the front. Ordered fish which appeared to be cooked to order as had to wait for it to be cooked. The chips were freshly cooked too, hot and dry of oil. To keep queues down you are given a ticket and call you back when ready. Brother in law didn't like the curry sauce he had with his chips declaring that it was too sweet. Lucky enough to get a table inside so didn't have to fight off seagulls!

Waited over an hour to be served and was it worth it? We were so damn hungry we could have eaten anything, the wait was not worth it but we weren't spoilt for choice. The chips were ok as was the curry sauce but the cod fish, where was it? There was only batter, loads of batter with wafer thin cod.So dissapointing honestly, I've never seen or had more batter than cod.On a final note the price was extortion.

Let me start this review by stating that the food is AMAZING here. Staff are always very friendly and the service is quick. The queue that you will see for this chippy speaks for itself - they serve great fish and chips. However after what I witnessed during my last visit I feel I have to write this review as I can no longer support a business which treats it staff so abusively.I was waiting in the queue to order and to my astonishment witnessed the man who I believe to be the owner of the restaurant began screaming abuse at the supervisor lady and throwing things around like a toddler. NOBODY deserves to be spoken to in such a humiliating and abusive way just because you pay them, O'Shea's. He didn't speak to any queuing customers in such a vile fashion, just his staff who obviously cannot answer him back or defend themselves. So I ask the following question; are you a bully, owner of O'Shea's?I would like to have seen him trying to speak to another man in such a way, not a defenceless woman who runs his shop for him and MAKES HIM MONEY. The way that I witnessed him screaming at his staff IN PUBLIC and IN FULL VIEW OF PAYING CUSTOMERS makes me wonder how he speaks to them in private. This is SO SO upsetting considering that many of these young people are under 18 years old and are obviously trying to make some money while they finish school. It's so hard for young people to get a job nowadays let alone a stressful, demanding job serving hundreds of people on a busy day on Barry Island. Their reward? An abusive business owner who creates an abusive, violent work environment by the looks of it.

This is our "must go to" places on a trip to Barry. Can't fault the food at all. The cod is big, moist and the batter perfectly crispy. Chips are fluffy and tasty, and the curry sauce (Irish) is so different to all the other UK chippies and in a good way too. The only nuisance is finding somewhere to sit. Hardly surprising though, it's got to be one of the best chippies in the UK.

Decided to have takeaway Fish and Chips with my parents, as they have missed their weekly trip to the our for lunch. Got to the island and saw both O'Sheas and Boofys. Larger que at O'Sheas, so thought, there must be a reason. So choose O'Sheas. Ordered 3 large Fish & Chips, expecting small over priced portions as its right on Barry Island promenade. How wrong I was, fish was massive, generous portion of chips, intact none of us could finish the chips. Food tasted fabulous too. Can not recommend it more, will be back.

Visited today with family and friends. There was a queue out of the door (which cant be helped and looked like a good sign although that couldnt have been further from the truth) when we got to the till we were greeted by impatient staff that literally threw the boxes of food on the counter without so much as a please or thank you. We walked back to the car, opened our "food"and were greeted with the worst chips all of us have ever had, one of the meals ordered was missing and the picture below was the mushy peas we received.Absolutely crap service and product and the 10 of us agreed that we would never return.Seems like they have lots of people through the door and they have stopped bothering with customer satisfaction and quality and are just there for the cash, they wont get another penny from us.

Having never visited Barry before, we decided to have a day trip whilst staying in Cardiff. We decided to have lunch here and caught it while there was no queue. We were served by a lovely girl at the till, however this was over shadowed by the 2 other girls who seemed to be having an argument across the length of the counter. When the girl serving asked whether they had certain items ready, she received snappy replies from a girl with a nose piercing, who proceeded to angrily throw a pen at her when she asked for one. Along with making loud gagging noises out the back and generally messing about. Other guests were also commenting. Our food was nice however.

Visited for tea on a Sunday evening, long queue out of the door but to me this meant they had a good reputation. Queued for around 15 minutes but well worth the wait. Amazing chips, nice crispy, golden batter on the fish and quite reasonably priced, cheaper than my local chippy up north. Only slight negative were the girls in the till, only young and not very professional, repeatedly saying she was going to be sick to her colleagues, but It wouldn’t put me off if I was in the area again.

I visited with friends on a sunny Tuesday in the school holidays. During the day we saw how busy this place was with queues out the door over the lunchtime period. We called in around 5.30pm and were told they had sold out of the small fish, so the 4 of us decided to share 2 large fish and chips with a portion of “Irish” curry sauce. The fish and chips were average, nothing special, but I found the curry sauce slightly odd, maybe because of the Irish twist, it was almost fruity? Unfortunately because they had been very busy that day the seating area was really dirty, food all over the floor and greasy marks all over the table and chairs. I can appreciate how hard they had been working, but found it all a bit disappointing.

Visited this evening for a fish supper. Delicious!! Although it was a shame about the female staff. All three had their long pony tails flying around whilst they were serving food, really off putting and totally unhygienic. And they talked and screamed to each other laughing all the time swinging their hair, taking orders from customers. I appreciate they had worked hard all day but there is no room for sloppiness and bad manners not even acknowledging customers. I read in the Gem they have just won an award and applaud their projects, but please get your staff to appreciate customer service and wear hats or at least tie their hair up so it's not trailing in the food. And make sure tables are clean. Ending on a positive note the fish and chips were divine!

We visited here as it had the longest queue (which is normally a good sign) out of all the chip shops along the sea front. We all chose what we wanted whilst waiting so as soon as we got to the counter I could tell the staff straight away and not have to be awkward. Upon reaching the staff I told her our order and was repeatedly asked 'what was that?' We finally got the order through and as soon as I paid I was stood in limbo not knowing what to do as she was in too much of a rush to serve the next person. Now I know it was busy but the state of the area where the staff were working was appaling. There was food all over the floor and curry / gravy all up the walls, etc. And this was pretty early so I dread to think what it would of been like later on in the day. A staff member shouted out 'who ordered chips, cheese and curry?' There was 2 other people waiting so I waited a second before stating that I did. It was literally thrown on the counter and the staff member walked away. When they returned I asked if it was mine as I was waiting for 3 other orders too. 'Yes it is, you will have to wait for the rest.' Was replied to me. All of a sudden there were random orders being thrown onto the counter top yet none of us waiting had a clue what or who's they was and was told to look and check to find out. There was alot more rudeness that went on and it is very unfortunate as the food we had was quite nice but we will not be returning here.

Visited mid-week in September so, although busy, no lengthy queue to place order. As fish is cooked to order, there was a short wait of 10 minutes and, as on previous occasions, fish was fresh and well-cooked in a light batter. Delicious.

A sunny day in September,so a trip to Barry Island. Really enjoyed the day,so many memories of childhood trips. No trip to the seaside would be complete without FISH &CHIPS; and this takeaway/ cafe didn't disappoint. First class piece of cod, well cooked, good old fashioned chip shop chips and a seat at a table outside overlooking the beach----PERFECT. Also reasonable prices and pleasant staff. If you are visiting Barry Island give this place a visit.

Great location on the promenade. Amazing cod & chips and pies! Could do with a scrub on the ceiling as it's a bit grotty but as good isn't prepared there I didn't put I down a star.

Apart from the long queue, the service was excellent, the food was good and there was a wide range of drinks available. Prices were reasonable and you have the option to eat in or take your food out. Would definitely come here again!

Great fish and chips, sea view (if you can get a seat) if not sit on the beach and enjoy your surroundings. We always visit here when we are in Barry

Queues outside this place got really long so it indicated it would be good. It was. Only had chips but they were good - cheesy chips were fab! Not cheap but we didn't care.

Eat here anytime my kids or I want chips whilst down the island. It's my favourite of all the fish and chip shops nearby. Good price but I do agree with some comments about the attitude of the staff, most of them are teenagers and rather surly but I can accept this for the nice food!

A very average fish and chips, which I thought was actually expensive for the portion size and quality that I got, especially when compared to some other fantastic fish and chips that I have eaten elsewhere. The service was very rushed and the place looked like a bomb site as there was rubbish all over the restaurant floor and most of the tables hadn't been cleared. Watching someone pouring gravy from a vat to a slushy machine via a plastic jug 4 or 5 times whilst in the queue to eat here just doesn't do it for me. Bog standard average to poor fish and chips. No other way to describe the food I'm afraid. Plenty of much better chippys around than this outfit!

Had fish and chips here recently and it was pretty tasty, prices are reasonable. The staff attitude isn't the best but if you're in and out quickly perhaps you can get over that.

I know they always taste better by the sea, but this fish and chip lunch was really something. When I went into the shop it was very busy, and I ordered a small fish and chips to be told there was a 7 minute wait. However, if I changed the order to “cod bites”, it would be ready straight away. So, I went for the cod bites, imagining some sort of bitesize nuggets, like a kids meal type of thing. Well...what I received was an incredible 3 pieces of freshly cooked fish, each one just as big as what most chippies sell as a small/mini fish in and of themselves. To make matters even better, the entire thing was delicious. The batter was amongst the best I have had in years, and the fish was succulent and full of flavour. I'm sometimes a bit funny with fish as I am scared of bones, but this was just so delicious I ate the entire three pieces and could have went for more. Chips were brilliant as well, and considering the portion size it was very reasonably priced indeed.

We visit here every time we go to Barry island as in my opinion it is the best! Lots to choose from and they even serve alcohol... It is not the cleanest of places but that's because people go here from the beach so bring sand in, but this doesn't impact the standard of the food. The staff are pleasant enough

We often see the newspaper-wrapped fish and chips lunch in movies as the representative fast food lunch in movies about the UK. On the ground, though, the grease-soaked fish and chips box is the real icon of modern British gastronomy.O'Shea's Cafe has some of the best cod and chips on Barry Island, and possibly the planet. Fish is fresh, hot, and crisp. Chips are perfectly oily and crisp on the outside.Whether you are a fan of the island, British fish and chips, or Gavin and Stacey you'll find a great meal here.

It's a lovely little place on the front, facing onto the beach. In High Season there's often a queue out of the door but don't let this put you off. Quick service gets the queue down very quickly - and there's no need to pre-order things in advance like in some establishments! The fish is lovely and freshly cooked. The only downside to this is if you're up against the clock on the carparking ticket, in which case the pies are a very good alternative. The chips are also good and crispy - especially nice with gravy or the Irish Curry sauce or even with cheese and beans (pretend it's the equivalent of a jacket potato!) to give that extra bit of flavour. They have an alcohol licence and you can get a bit of fizz to accompany your meal if that's the sort of thing you like. Seating inside is limited but most welcome if the weather's a bit on the turn, or in the off-season when you might be sheltering from the wind. Failing that, there are plenty of seating options outside and along the sea front where you can enjoy your purchases.Prices are reasonable, given the surroundings, and it's worth it to enjoy traditional Fish n Chips at the seaside in such a lovely location.

A very friendly and welcoming pub in the centre of Coychurch. We recently joined a family event with 50+ people and the team were organised, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The buffet food was excellent, the set up they provided for us was well presented and there was ample free parking. As a family with a toddler aged 2.5 years, we were made to feel very welcome.
