Excellent value for money, lovely fresh sandwiches.

Fabulous food lovely evening had by all our party

The food and atmosphere was great however ruined by one of the female staff members who appeared like she clearly didn’t want to be there. No manners when taking us to our table and when taking out food and drink order. I understand that she probably focused on something else but manners don’t cost a thing. The other staff members were absolutely outstanding!

We went in Oscars for Cocktails on Tuesday night about 9pm to finish off our evening celebrating my husbands early retirement and my 60th birthday. The female staff member wasn’t friendly at all. We only stayed in the bar for about 20 minutes because the female staff member was making an horrendous racket with cutlery for the whole duration we were in there. I am sure it was a ploy to make us leave so they could close early. Won’t be going back again anytime soon

A varied menu and large portions make for a good restaurant for friends and family. The gyros are gigantic and the burgers are tasty.

Myself and my husband popped in for a drink intending to eat later elsewhere but the food looked so good coming out of the kitchen we decided to order and we weren’t disappointed the food was delicious and the staff were so friendly and made us feel welcome! Great service and value for money, will definitely return when we visit York again!

Lovely meal and great service, would definitely go again if we visit York again. Didn’t feel rushed, managed to have a few games of Uno which I won 😀

This is a great place to eat after walking around for a while we noticed the menu as we were walking past, it had a variety of food which was a bonus. The restaurant inside looks great and quite cosy but with plenty of room. Food and staff were amazing I would definitely recommend.

The food was fantastic. Portion sizes where very filling. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. Full of charm. Staff was kind, friendly and attentive. I had the bri and bacon burger and it was amazing especially with the onion jam. I boyfriend had the York lamb Gyros and he loved it. A must go to when in York.

Had the Big O burger which was absolutely delicious! But then the dessert (lemon meringue pie) took ages to come out. Which was particularly irksome as we were in a large group and I hadn't realised but I was the only one that ordered dessert. I then discovered why it took so long. It was a little single pie and it was... WARM! I was expecting just a slice of pie, served cold as is, what I thought, tradition. I was sorely disappointed.

Excellent spot in the city centre, me and my partner came for dinner and the food was great. I had a Caesar salad that was 10/10, the portions were so big I couldn’t believe it. My partners burger was great too. Plenty of choices on the food menu and a decent cocktail menu too. Also a very decent price for York city centre, I really would recommend.

Waited 20 minutes for the buttermilk burger, cut it open and it was pink and slimy. Waitress tried telling us it was because it was cooked in paprika, even though it’s a buttermilk burger which was made us feel stupid. Meals got comped and we left.

Found Oscars when looking for somewhere to eat with friends in York. We were created by the friendly staff who were welcoming and happy to take our order, always with a smile. Food was well presented, well cooked and really tasty. We will definitely be back.

Another fab meal. Rib and wing combo. Tasty and plenty of it. Very pleased. This is my go to place as there us a lot of choice and always delicious.

Oscars is an old favourite and a great choice for a Saturday night out with friends. There was a mix up with our table and the staff could not have been more accommodating, sorting us out with drinks and even making space for an extra guest. The food as always was excellent, great choice, generous portions, and a relaxed atmosphere.

Went for our anniversary meal. Quiet (Monday) good service. Good value tasty food (burgers). Not been before, surprised to hear it had been in York for 15 yrs. Definitely go again.

Had a meal here with two friends while we were exploring York. Service was excellent by very friendly staff. The food was also excellent and arrived fairly quickly, although I would have preferred a wider healthy selection of meals. Price wise, it was very reasonable. The atmosphere was fairly quiet as we'd chosen a late lunch time, but it did start to fill up as we left. All in all, I would recommend this venue.

The food was nice and it was a nice environment and a nice atmosphere. Service was slow, which might have been due to the bank holiday.

Amazing place with a cosy atmosphere! The food was unreal and the espresso martinis are a definite, if you like coffee.

Had a great relaxed informal business dinner here in May 2024. Good selection of food & drinks and a great central location in York. I had some issues with my business expenses which past the visit, Brad helped sort out. Really great service and the team went above and beyond what I would have expected. Really helpful staff & very accommodating. Would happily recommend if visiting York or you’re wanting to try somewhere new.

We visited Oscar's last week for dinner and left feeling overwhelmed by the quality of the food and attentiveness of our waitress, Honey; I believe her name was. The atmosphere in the restaurant was perfect for a quick bite to eat to end our day shopping. I had a burger, which was divine, and my friend was very pleased with her salad. The waitress who looked after our table was very friendly and more than happy to recommend her favourite dishes from the menu to us (apologies for not choosing the Veggie Nachos Honey!). However, I will definitely be back to try it due to your recommendation and overall very enjoyable dining experience.

Fantastic food! Fantastic atmosphere staff were amazing and attentive. Staff knew a lot about wine and picked out this amazing Shiraz for us! We thoroughly enjoyed.

Went for a family night out after a turbulent month and needed a good cheering up with some good food, we got way more than just great food (compliments to the chef), our serving Milly greeted us with the widest of smiles and was a cheerful waitress throughout. There was a slight mishap with the ordering but Milly sorted that out for us straight away and made sure my lovely son wasn’t waiting too long, we will definitely be visiting again soon.

Visited today while visiting York for the day. I lived in York many years ago and was nostalgic to try Oscars again. It hasn’t changed at all. The food was delicious and very filling. The service was excellent, we were looked after really well. The bill at the end was also a pleasant surprise and really reasonable. Definitely worth a visit

Don’t bother. The food is so bland, I enjoy seasoned food and Oscar’s does not. I wish I’d read reviews prior to dining, we ordered chicken which was slightly pink - not as pink as in the previous review however. We also only realised after leaving that they failed to give us onion rings on both mains that we ordered, both of which were supposed to have them as a side dish. There are so many better restaurants in the town centre.

Been going to Oscars since it was in the old building but it has gone down hill Surly staff, worse manager. Family of 6 , our son 17 a Diet Coke but finished off someone’s cider at the end of the meal Nothing wrong in this as per the law “, if you’re 16 or 17 and accompanied by an adult, you can drink (but not buy) beer, wine or cider with a meal”. see See gov uk site alcohol-young-people-law and York council The manager confiscated the drink. When it was pointed out she was incorrect she changed the reason for the confiscation from legislation to company policy. hmmm… don’t buy it this. it was clear she wanted to cause an issue and she did not know the law. As there was only a sip left, was not an issue but the attitude yikes She was patronising and rude, which if you really just making stuff up takes the biscuit No real impact on is but also based on the fact all the main course Meals were mediocre at best, it was a cold day there was no heating, the place was 3/4 empty. It was draft cannot recommend There are better places to eat

A decent restaurant with excellent sandwiches and burgers. Good atmosphere, excellent value for the money, and generously sized sandwiches and burgers. It was a tasty lasagne. Will return without a doubt

Writing this review at 1 o’clock in the morning from the bathroom because I have food poisoning from the meal I had from here this evening. Firstly, the chicken came out pinkish but the waitress reassured me that it was the seasoning that causes the colour. Luckily, I had only eating a little bit of it since it made me feel uncomfortable. Regardless I ate around the chicken and had the salad to which I found a small pebble. When we told the waitress she told us she would take it off the bill. That was the last we saw of anyone. No one came back to check on us. We had to go to the bar to pay. Also my mother had the chili con carne which tasted awful. Too sweet. The waitresses were kind when we saw them but after complaining they vanished. The man who took our payment apologised again but looked really unbothered. We even tipped because we felt bad about complaining. Usually I would let this type of thing go but as I am in so much pain, I’m annoyed. (Pictures are below)

Excellent place, great drinks and friendly helpful staff. Just popped in for a drink on our first day in York and guy behind the bar gave us the lay of the land

The service is amazing and you’re always welcomed at the door politely and with a smile, the staff are on the ball constantly. As a regular customer the food never disappoints, it’s truly delicious!! The bartenders are quick, nice and chatty. Always a pleasant visit. Never dissatisfied.

Lovely lunch menu. Nice drinks selection and very friendly staff. We’ve been a few times and each visit has been pretty good. Only criticism is the price. Can be pricey for lunch. Need more deals on food to encourage us to revisit. York is a competitive place.

We have been visiting York for many years now and always make time to visit Oscars, we went again yesterday and the food was incredible, the waiting staff were very attentive. They brought our very hungry toddlers meal out really quick and everything about the place was great! Thank you, we can't wait to visit again next time!

I had a starter of calamari, which was delicious and then the chicken bacon Royale burger as a main, which I always get and is also great - the cheese topped crispy chicken fillets are definitely the highlight. I have been to Oscars a couple of times and it is always very tasty and doesn’t disappoint!

We stopped in for a drink and lunch. It was busy and we weren't in a hurry. While we got seated quickly, after that it went downhill. It took a very long time just to get a drink. Then once we had our drinks, we were told the kitchen was backed up and we wouldn't be able to get any food for an hour and a half. They did tell us we could get appetizers quicker if we only ordered appetizers. We did that and still waited about 45 minutes after we ordered. Had we known, we'd have passed on this place altogether.

The food tasted good but was cold, service was shocking! Orderd our food before new tables had sat down and they still got their good before us, very slow service, there is a baord explaining that food can take uo to 45mins, our food took over an hour and a half. The staff omitted an entire meal from our table of 4! Not much of an apology nor communication with us, was made to feel like we was the inconvenience, after the table had finished eating the missing meal came out after being paraded around the restaurant because the staff didn't know what table it belonged to, resulting in extremely late and cold food! Also requested condiments that never came.

Embarrassingly poor. Arrived shortly after opening, told food would be 30 minutes. 2 consecutive pints of Blue Moon returned with barely an acknowledgment of the fault, despite them being visibly not right! (Minor fact but no orange either but served in a glass that says it should be!) 50 minutes later, no food despite it just been halloumi fries, garlic bread and wings so no real prep needed but 3 tables around us, who arrived after us, all being served similar. Told them we needed to leave, no apology, just told they were going to be starting the order soon. Oscar’s used to be our favourite quirky place to eat in York but sadly it’s now more like a disappointing chain restaurant. Sadly not worth a visit as it offers no more than much more efficient places in York!

Shocking service. Arrived at 17:10 Didn’t get our food until 18:10 got our starter with our mains which we didn’t ask for but food was amaze but wouldn’t return as the service was shocking and we ordered basic food and took nearly a hour to arrive. Not impressed

Place was fairly busy, so I guess you have to show a little leeway, but we came in and waited for what seemed like a lifetime before anyone even acknowledged our existence. We almost had to stand in front of one of the staff in order to get them to tell us if we could sit down. They then went to ask the lady behind the bar for her opinion of that. Eventually, they decided that we could sit at the table in the middle of the room, pulling two of the four free 4 seater tables together for our party of 5 people. We then sat for over 20 minutes without being asked or offered anything. Eventually, my wife got up and took 5 menus from the stack near the door, so we could at least be ready with our order when the waiting staff got around to seeing us. We placed our drinks order, which was subsequently messed up but later corrected, then we placed our food order, which again, took a long while to arrive, but to be fair to the chef, when the food arrived, we were pleasantly surprised. All of our food (about 3 or 4 different choices) were delicious, piping hot and very well presented. Absolutely full marks to the chef for producing such great food in a place where clearly everyone else just isn't in the right job. I travel a lot and eat in a very wide variety of establishments but it's not difficult to please me, I don't expect miracles. We had some German friends with us and I was actually embarrassed to show them that That level of customer service actually exists in the UK. Thank god the food was good, or I'd have been looking for a substantial discount on the bill. The place itself looks nice, I just hope whoever manages this place reads this and takes some action that will bring the customer service up to the level one could expect from a location in the centre of a City like York and that a chef such as they have deserves to serve his food.

Great staff, terrible food. Chicken burgers with the gravy and onion rings are totally bland and the chicken I assume is some mass bought frozen chicken rubbish, a bit slimy in texture,not good, not good at all Kids fish fingers...avoid, it's formed fish, our little one wouldn't touch them

I am always impressed with Oscar’s; we primarily go for cocktails which are always of a good quality and well priced. The staff are always incredibly attentive and it’s a really nice setting.

Restaurant theme is pretty ambiguous ‘generic bistro’ and menu very eclectic. Service was friendly and food was very tasty.
