Osaka in Kingston upon Thames

We were celebrating my adult son’s birthday. There were 8 of us. Only one other table was occupied, with a family of four. After about half an hour 2 other tables with couples arrived. We have been very many times before. We ordered our food and drink. The beers and soft drinks came quickly but It took an age before some tepid water to arrive. I asked for ice and we got a cupful. It took a while for some of the food to come consequentially 3 of us had finished The largest available platter of sashimi before my son was even served. Now let me tell you why! There was one member of staff waitressing and 1 chef. It became embarrassing as we were served to the detriment of the other diners. Then a table of 6 friends arrived to celebrate a teenage birthday and another table walked out. Bit by bit we got our food. I ordered more sashimi, I almost didn’t because our party was definitely given priority and It was embarrassing. I asked if I could bring a cake, they happily agreed. They provided plates and forks too. When the waitress wasn’t waitressing she was cooking! I felt so sorry for her. I was going to remove the service but I didn’t have the heart. WHO OWNS THIS PLACE NOW? They should be ashamed of themselves. When we first started coming, maybe 10 years ago it wasn’t like this. 3 owners on and they’re ruining their business. It is wholly unfair to have 1 member of staff serving cooking and doing the drinks whilst clearing and preparing bills too. The food, as always was DELICIOUS but we will never return, it’s not enjoyable to have to keep getting up to ask for things, lovely as she was she simply didn’t have the time to come to the table unless she was serving. Such a shame.

We went to this restaurant last night and we have walked past so many times and never gone in. what a big mistake and how we have missed out. The meal was simply one of the best we have had. If you have not tried this restaurant before then you have also missed out.There is nothing else that we need to say or add. Thank you for an exceptional meal.

This was a birthday meal which my sister organised with a friend of ours. For a Saturday night, it was completely empty which was surprising considering the packed out Persian restaurant next door. Nonetheless, I did not let that put us off. The waiter allowed us to choose where we sat and thereafter gave us the worst service I have had in a long time. Only when our friend arrived did he take drinks and the food order and he literally had his back to us the entire evening while standing behind the bar. Certain specialities like kimchi and the sparkling sake were not available and the continued rudeness and lack of a welcome from the waiter and another member of staff was appalling. The one redeeming thing was that the food was good, especially the starters of gyoza dumplings and pumpkin fritters. The iron plated foods and the noodles were of a good standard but nothing outstanding. With the speed of service it was clear we were not really welcome so we left and had dessert and coffee in the much more welcoming restaurant next door! What a disappointment!

A proper hidden gem! Can’t believe this place isn’t more busy. They need to up their advertising game. We had deep fried soft shell crab, some tuna maki, sweet chilli chicken, a beef fish I don’t recall, and some brilliant dumplings . There is so much variation, from your standard Chinese style dishes to all out authentic sushi. The staff are brilliantly attentive and it is also excellent value compared to others In the area! A real must-try.

Honestly some of the best food we’ve ever eaten!!! We had a selection of hot and cold food and it was all incredible!!!

The food was fantastic! Its run by a family so the food is authentic. We are vegetarian and even though the menu is limited to what we can eat we still very much enjoyed what we ordered. Given how local it is and how great the service was we will definitly be coming back.

I’ve been to Osaka several times over the past two years, both to eat in and to collect takeaway. It’s one of my favourite restaurants. The service has been great when we’ve eaten in, nicely decorated and pleasant atmosphere. The vegetable gyoza and vegetable yaki soba are my favourite dishes! Both are delicious. My only complaint is that I’ve started to notice that when we order takeaway the vegetable yaki soba is a much smaller portion than the yaki soba with meat. The last time we ordered takeaway I did mention this but still I only got half a Tupperware box full. If I could guarantee a filling portion of food each time then Osaka would be my favourite place to eat in the area.

Not long moved to the area & wanted to try something different. Best book in advance as well it’s not huge inside and are adhering to social distancing. Was greeted very warmly, the service was excellent throughout, our waitress was so friendly. The food -stunning in presentation and taste, lovely atmosphere. I can’t recommend this place enough... oh and the plum wine is beautiful!

Small family owned Japanese restaurant, has a cosy feel, lovely sushi and classic hot dishes, very friendly staff make you feel welcome

I go to Osaka probably two or three times a year. The food is lovely. Tonight I went out with my friend. I was disappointed with the service. I found a staple in the ginger pickle of my sashimi. When I told the waitress, she was shocked and took the plate away. She didn't come back to apologise. After few minutes I asked what happened, she used her limited English to descirbe they were shocked, too. But she didn't say sorry. After paying, I asked to speak to the manager. Apparently the manager was on holiday, I told her I was disappointed the way she dealt with the situation without saying sorry and without taking service charge off from the bill. Perhaps it was the language barrier, the whole service could be better.

Fantastic food been to many Japanese restaurants in central London was slightly nervous but food was exceptional

A long overdue return to Osaka and nothing has changed on the food and service front, both still excellent along with the reliable, friendly service. Still one of the top restaurants in the area along with Tanoor and Tas which are all very different and so not really in competition with each other. Highly recommended still.

Always dishes are in the same good standard I wish Ramen could be available too and Music could be Japanese

We love this place, it’s consistently brilliant. Always smiley service, complimentary miso soup and fresh orange before your bill. The portions are big and food is fresh and very good.

Never had Japanese food before but we will be having it again very soon .What a beautiful place .The decor is just right the staff perfect ,so welcoming and helpful .The food is out of this world ,so full of flavour and such a choice .The beer was great too ,in fact it was a perfect evening .We found the prices to be very reasonable .Would not hesitate to recommend .

Having had a small amount of Japanese food lately , we thought we would give Osaka a try. No real idea of what or how much to order , it was very much trial and error.. we ordered a couple of hot starters, followed by a couple of the rolls then some mains ... We were very impressed as the food was lovely & better than expected. The bill was reasonable too. My only slight criticism was that we felt the mains were slightly bland ( teriyaki and chicken Katsu), so on our second visit we ordered more hot starters and some more rolls instead with just the spicy prawn noodles. All in all, I felt it was really nice and pretty good value. Would definitely go back again.

We love Osaka restaurant! They are so welcoming when we go in with noisy kids and have thomas plates and cutlery to make the kids happy. We have eaten in many times as well as having take aways. Perhaps a little pricey but worth it. The sushi is the best we have had outside of Japan! At the moment they have 20% off lunchtime take aways.

This is real gem of a place, food, service as atmosphere is always excellent. We were with family who spend time in Japan and who love the cuisine - they were delighted with Osaka’s authenticity, friendliness and value. We feel so lucky to have this restaurant within walking distance.

Quite a charming restaurant with very good food and friendly staff. The food took a while but it was worth waiting for.

My husband and I took our Japanese guests here following a friends recommendation. Although from the roadside the restaurant does not look overly inviting, inside it is clean and modern. We received a warm welcome and found staff very pleasant giving us time to view the menu and chat at leisure. We received complimentary miso soup and an after dinner segmented orange which are guests said were very good. For starters we had chicken, vegetable and prawn gyoza and a seaweed salad. These tasted nice and were nicely plated - the vegetable version was deep fried which our guests explained is not traditional. For mains we had rainbow sushi rolls and the sweet potato curry which was on the specials menu. For drinks we had sparking mineral water, a Japanese beer and apple juice. We ended our meal with green and jasmine tea. The meal for four was well priced. Overall a pleasant evening at a restaurant which appeared favoured by local residents.

We have visited this restaurant many times and it has never disappointed. The service is excellent, the food is amazing and the setting is perfect. Couldn't ask for a better restaurant and would absolutely recommend.

Really good find in our local area! We have visited this restaurant twice and we'll definitely go back. On our last visit we had a selection of sushi rolls, sashimi and nigiri. All very good! I would particularly recommend the prawn tempura rolls, really delicious! We received a very friendly and attentive service so overall a great experience.

Great little restaurant serving a mixture of Japanese and Korean food. Great service, good atmosphere. Not the cheapest, but reasonably priced for the quality. Booking advisable.

I visited Osaka with my husband and we had a private tour arranged by Ayabec. Brandon Li was assigned to us. He was very kind and considerate and agreed for a few stops as I was expecting. He told us quite a lot about the city and was very friendly. Not to mention excellent communication skills. If you are looking for a great walking tour experience with a fun guide do go with brandon from ayabex he's great!

Ordered salmon sashimi as a starter.

We’ve been here a few times before and always had a good meal. Tonight, on a whim we decided to return having not been in a while. And what a good choice. The soft shell crab was oh so lightly battered and fried, the chicken goyoza was so well seasoned. And then there was the main course. I had the spicy pork belly and steamed rice, my other the tofu bipimbap. The pork was so delicately cooked. Great level of heat/spice and so tasty. A well earned no1 spot on TA for this lovely place with such nice staff.

We are regulars here and it is always good service and food. We have never been let down. We like the bibimbap and starters

My first time with Japanese food. Even though I found it not to my taste, I can't deny this is a fabulous restaurant with a good menu and well presented food.

My partner and I fancied some Japanese food so gave Osaka. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and very much enjoyed the mixed Tempura and Sashimi. We will certainly be going back.

Can't fault the quality and range of food on offer. But we tried it twice and both times were irritated by the rather chaotic service. First visit, our Korean waitress has only started that evening and was clearly undertrained. She couldn't talk us through the Japanese eating experience. As a result, dishes arrived haphazardly, so some diners had a couple and others none.

We take this place for granted as it's so close. We didn't book and really we should but after a little sit at the bar a table became available. It's a small restaurant and very popular now as the word's gone round about how good it is. We enjoyed our food very much. The menu offers good variety. There is sushi which is beautifully presented . Tempura's are delicious and there are other great options too. Parking is available outside or close by or it's easy to get to on the 213 bus. Well worth a visit.

I've been to Osaka several times, when visiting my girlfriend in Worcester Park. We've been in groups of various sizes and always receive the same friendly and attentive service.

This is my favourite restaurant. The quality , presentation , atmosphere are wonderful . The finest Japanese food I have ever eaten . We took friends who regularly go to to Japan . They were very very impressed and have also been back on there own

Nos osaka uno de los primeros clientes habituales cuando abrieron hace 4 años. Ya que mover a Stratford hace dos años no habíamos vuelto hasta la última semana. En un viaje reciente a una estrella michelín Roka pedimos el cangrejo de cáscara blanda y comentaron cómo no era tan buena como Osaka. Esto llevó a un viaje de una hora a Worcester Park, sólo por la comida en Osaka! El cangrejo de concha suave como impresionante como siempre y el plato de sushi fue una excelente relación calidad-precio y delicioso como siempre. Incluso pedimos extra sweet chili y carne de pollo bibimbap para llevar para el almuerzo del día siguiente! No me decepcionó.

I reviewed this restaurant back in 2013 when it first opened, I liked it but thought there was a small room for improvement and only gave it 4 stars. Well they have certainly upped their game! We have eaten there a few times now and I wouldn't usually do a second Trip Advisor review but I have photos this time. They are now the number one restaurant in Worcester Park and rightly so. The menu has been improved by adding photos of the dishes, so that those who haven't eaten Japanese before will have an idea what they are ordering. On this occasion there were 5 of us celebrating my son's birthday. For starters we shared soft shell crab, octopus balls, shrimp dim sum, chicken dumplings and tempura prawns. My favourite was the soft shelled crab which I had never had before, not liking the idea of eating shells. My youngest son ordered it so I had to face the challenge - of course it's not eating shell at all and they were delicious! For mains we had marinated eel * 2, teriyaki beef, crispy chilli chicken and spicy prawns. Everyone had a taste of everything and we all liked all the dishes. I get the feeling you cannot go wrong here! We had a complimentary miso soup to start and oranges at the end. With 2 bottles of wine and soft drinks for the kids it came out at £30 per head which I think is incredibly reasonable given the quality of the food. We went on a Tuesday and I would advise booking, even mid-week, as it is now very popular. We will definitely be back.

Loved this little Japanese place which is located not too far away from the WSP train station. Two Korean girls actually seem to be running the place instead of Japanese so they've got quite a few kimchi themed dishes too. Loved my eel rice which I specifically asked to have the eel steak on the special menu but serve it on top of the rice in stead of on the side. It was served exactly how I liked it and it was DELICIOUS! The chicken gyoza and veg gyoza starters were very nice as well and the husband loved his spicy chicken dish too. We happily had all the food with a glass of lovely ume plum wine. Will go again for sure!

Booked the table over the phone, glad we did as the restaurant was full, it shows how good this place is ! Tuesday and packed.The California roll is my favourite, but the whole meal as usual was excellent. We shared a bottle of Sakae wine, my head is feeling a little sore this morning.Back to the food, the chicken balls with stream rice and noodles were yummy.You can see why it's the number one Resturant in worcester park !

Really nice Japanese food and very friendly, if slightly slow service. Excellent sushi and some very tasty main dishes, this is without a doubt one of the best restaurants in the area!

3 of us visited. We have been a few times as it always delivers. The menu is vast and there are specials so I try to have something new each time. Wine is sold by the glass Merlot is £4.50 a glass. We all had a starter and a main and two extra rices. Complimentary soup was served & then an orange came to the table after the meal as a mouth freshener. Everything is so well presented and arrives to the table sizzling. It's great food and the service is very good too. The word is getting out re Osaka so make sure you book a table.3 of us eat 2 courses with 2 wines and 2 extra rice dishes & the bill was £70 including service.

First visit to Osaka and it won't be the last. Food was tasty, everyone enjoyed their choices and the staff were really pleasant. And the free miso soup and edame beans were a nice surprise. I highly recommend a visit.

We were a walk in and were greeted and seated in a restaurant that deserves high praise. Decor top quality. We enjoyed a variety of dishes, beautifully served. I could not fault this lovely restaurant, only wish we had been before. I have read some reviews that say it is expensive, but, you certainly get what you pay for in style, quality and taste.

Been here many times and it is always brilliant food,- (particularly the soft shell crab.. And the rainbow roll, and the dumplings, and the.. - You get the idea...everything is great..) excellent unobtrusive yet attentive service and a reasonable price highly recommended restaurant and it's only a 5 min walk from the train

We have visited this restaurant many times and I have to say the food is sublime! We have never experienced a bad meal and the sushi/sashimi is always incredibly fresh. This is the best restaurant around and without a doubt a hidden gem in Surrey, an absolute must if you like high quality Japanese cuisine.

Then we ordered some sushi that arrived beautifully presented. There is a friendly atmosphere. Once we finished they presented us with present. Couldn't ask for more. Will certainly be back.

The food here was all really nice, the beef teriyaki came sizzling to the table and was really good. The takoyaki was also brilliant, very flavourful and a very nice smooth texture inside it. All really good food definitely worth a visit

Very pleasant staff and the sushi is really good, definitely one of the best in the area.However the prices are a bit high but not unusual for a sushi place and this one is worth it.

Normally very consistently good, Osaka might be a tad pricey but it's very rarely bad quality. The sweet chilli chicken is a must have.The only reason I haven't given five stars is following a take away we had last Friday night - which wasn't quite as good as usual, but we'll still continue to order their food.

We visited Osaka this evening after reading the great reviews. We were excited to find a new (to us) Japanese restaurant and enjoy an authentic meal. For a Saturday night they were very quiet, with only a couple of tables. Despite this, it took them a while to notice we were standing waiting to be greeted. We ordered a variety of food, from edamame, shrimp tempura, lots of sushi and rolls, and a hot entree. The tempura was too thick and not at all pleasant. The sushi was fairly food, as was the entree, but certainly nothing to rave about. The service however was horrendous. Not once did anyone come to check on us to see how we were enjoying our meal, and I had to repeatedly flag down a bored looking manager in order to have my water glass refilled. I wish I could say this was because they were so busy, but in reality it was due to a lack of awareness and caring. This restaurant lacks character, and might be decent for takeout, but we wouldn't rush back to dine in.

It was our first visit and neither of us had a complaint. The food was tasty and plentiful! We both really liked the Miso Soup (we have had many and this was by far one of the best). Service was good and the atmosphere was nice; it wasn't fully booked when we were there but it was filling up as we were leaving! We will definitely be returning!

Visited on a Saturday evening, wasn't too busy, tables are now nicely arranged (again) and provide for intimate sittings, well done. Food as usual was very good, this time we tried the Chicken Katsu Curry which was truly excellent. Prawns and sushi are still top quality, also worth a mention is the vegetable Yakisoba. Staff were very helpful and courteous as usual. A very enjoyable evening.

We went as a family for lunch on Father's Day. The sushi we had to start was amazing and so we're the noodles and Japanese cold pancakes. Would definitely recommend coming here.

Being huge fans of Sushi, we have visited many of the great sushi restaurants in London and around the world, and since discovering Osaka, we now compare all of these places to our Fantastic local! Not saying that Osaka is better than the likes of Nobu, Sushi Samba etc but if you like fresh tasting and beautifully presented sushi, it is most definitely just as good! The fact that Osaka is only 10 mins away makes it an absolute favourite for us. We last visited in May but have booked for tonight and can't wait!

My husband took me here for my birthday last year. There were some Japanese people dining at the same time which I knew must be a good sign. The food we had was authentic and so tasty. The restaurant were offering a deal at the time so it was really good value for the amount we ate. The staff were also very friendly. My new favourite restaurant in Worcester Park

I think it's really hard to find good sushi locally - but this place is sooo good. Went here on a Saturday night before going out and it wasn't too busy. This is the most reasonably priced sushi I have ever had but it's amazingly good quality. Sets of rolls are only around £8 each - we got starters, miso soup, 4 sets of rolls and 4 alcoholic drinks for around £55 in total which is an absolute bargain! There is a really varied menu as well and nice new things to try... we tried Katsu Curry rolls and Peking Duck rolls which I hadn't had before. Will be going here again soon!

We visited on a "quiet" Wednesday evening and the fact that the restaurant was virtually full tells its own story. The ambience was relaxed, the service and the food were excellent.We had Miso soup, a Sashimi mixed platter, a Teriyaki Steak and bottle of wine.Whilst £30 a head is not cheap it was very reasonable for the quality of food and service.

An extensive menu makes it hard to make a choice it all sounds so good. We really enjoyed our choices. Tempura was a favourite on our table. The mixed tempura looked especially good. Everyone enjoyed their food. It was of a really good standard.There are different specials to choose from too. It's not all sushi but sushi is there if you want and there are vegetarian options.4 of us eat for around £20 each and were too full for desserts. We'll definitely go back. Why travel further?

This is a real gem of a restaurant and I love eating here for authentic Japanese food. The presentation is beautiful but more importantly really delicious and great service.

Visited on Saturday of Easter weekend. The restauarant has had a minor refurb for the better. Tables are better spaced and not so cramped and there is now a seperate seating area/room for approx 8 covers. This is the first time we have visited where the restauarant was not full. Service was very attentive, helpful and efficient. The tempura prawn starter is stil wonderful. For main we had the Fuji platter and beef teriyaki with noodles. All were superb, accompanied by some very reasonable good quality New Zealand Sauvignon. Still highly recommended and deserves it's number one spot for restauarants in this area.

I went there on a Friday evening with a group of four, the food was good but for me was a little to greasy, the black cod was salty and the soup was served in plastick bowl and spoon, the service was very slow as they appear to give priority to the take away customers, after having to ask for our main coarse we still had to wait approximately 45 minutes to be served, overall I was very disappointed and I will not be returning.

My dad chose this restaurant for his birthday meal I was apprehensive as I've never been a fan of sushi and never considered Japanese food when picking a restaurant.However we went and i was so surprised the food was lovely even the preservation was beautiful the restaurant is clean staff are friendly and will help you choose a dish if you are unsure of what to order.Have visited this restaurant several times since and each meal has been great.

When I come here it is with a family and it is usually a family of 5 or 6 and we spend about £100 and even though that is a lot it is so much better than Yo Sushi which charges crazy amounts for 2 people!

Service, food and ambiance are all fantastic here. The spicy salmon and tuna sashimi salad is one of the best Japanese dishes I have had, and all the sushi rolls we ate were delicious.

What a great find! Authentic, fresh and really reasonably priced Japanese food. The restaurant is really quite intimate yet tables are set in a way that you can have a romantic meal (if you wanted to :-)). I will definitely be going back again. The sushi and sashimi is highly recommended as are the tempura prawns. #giveitago.

My daughter had been to Japan last Summer and wanted to have a Japanese meal for her birthday. We decided to go as a family. Sunday lunch was the only time we could all make it. It was quiet in the restaurant. The waitress was very attentive. The food was yummy. We took away what we couldn't eat. Will definitely go again. They had pictures of the food so that you had some idea of what you were ordering. We had miso soup, king prawn and mixed tempura, vegetable sushi, seafood yakisoba, sweet and sour chicken, chicken yakisoba. All of it was lovely.

I have eaten here for over two years now & never had a bad meal. Sometimes the service was a tad slow on very busy nights but the food has alway been great & exceptional value. I tried to temp our daughter to share an evening here this week but she didn't think she would like Japanese food. On visiting their web page to show her the menu & variety of food I thought it could do with some photos of the dishes & a better description of each dish. I feel this could get more people trying out this restaurant.

For a suburban restaurant this is pretty good although the menu seems to be a little confused as to nationality.That aside, the food is more than adequate but don't expect the truly light flavours of traditional Japanese food.

My first visit to Osaka coming recommended by other family members. Had no idea looking at the menu and allowed others In our group to choose. Was certainly not let down. The octopus balls warranted a second helping as did the eggplant... Devine.. As I write this I can savour the flavours the dishes were that good. When we return to UK it will be first on our to do list.

We are very frequent visitors to Osaka restaurant as the food is always sensational however after our visit this evening there is absolutely no way that we will be returning.As a table of two spending on average £70 each visit with this restaurant, I was surprised that when by total accident the lid fell off of our tea pot and broke, we were told that we would have to pay £15 on top of the price of the bill to cover the damage. Now, if I or my dinner guest had deliberately broken the tea pot lid in purpose I could understand, but by pure accident it came off as we were trying to get the last remnants of our tea out. I am disappointed and disgusted that a restaurant would be willing to put a tea pot above our regular custom. There is no circumstance now that we would return and would urge any local people to Osaka to make sure that they are delicate with all utensils as god knows what they would charge if you accidentally bent a fork!

Visited on a busy Saturday evening, tables are quite close together and a little cramped, not really the place for a romantic meal. Service was a little slow to start with but was then OK, think there was a little confusion between the staff?Food is exceptional and the platters stand out particularily for me. Very fresh and lots of flavours. The non sushi/sashimi dishes are equally as good and also get a definite thumbs up.The wine list is a little restricted, but what they do stock is of a very good standard and very reasonably priced.Just one drawback, the desert menu only has two options, ice cream...or ice cream.Highly recommended.

Went Sunday both my husband and myself had a bento box each plus a sashimi salad. Excellent taste and a fantastic price. Will definitely be going back on a regular basis.

Food here is wonderful and well-prices for such unusual fresh food.. Menu very extensive but I wish they did a set menu.

Just the best japanese\korean food i have had outside those countries. Anything we have ordered has been great. Try the soft shell crab and sweet chili chicken and you will not be disappointed.

Don't think Korean, Chinese or Thai keep an open mind. Japanese cuisine is different from any other and delicious. There will be dishes that you have never heard of but just ask as the staff are very helpful.

Absolutely great. We went there for lunch and really enjoyed it. Food is so delicious and staff very friendly. I would definitely recommend it. We are already planning to go there again and take our friends with us :)

Really tasty, good mix of dishes on the menu. Very friendly service and very good value. Would recommend.

The staff could not be more helpful, my wife being a coeliac had every dish explained, and if required produced fresh to ensure it was Gluten free. We all enjoyed a great meal of Japanese with a Korean influence.

Everything we tried here is good. Nice service as well. I thought priced well for the quality of the food.If you are in the area give it a try!
