Masil in Kingston upon Thames

Went here Saturday night and had such a lovely Meal. We had the glass noodle pancakes for starters and the Korean friend chicken and steamed rice for main. The food was so fresh and tasty. I was surprised this place wasn’t busier as the food was so good. I will be coming back for sure. The service and atmosphere were lovely too. Truly a hidden gem.

Had the beef ramen which I'm 99% sure is store bought packet ramen with a small amount of beef on top. Decent flavour but expected more. Edamame was nice, kimchi was punchy, tofu was decent, gyoza were probably frozen then reheated, the veg noodles looked a little sad. It's fairly priced, service was so friendly, but tables a little sticky and music very intense for the small space. I don't know. I enjoyed my meal but felt like it could have been so much better. Also, you have to pre-order the sushi 2 days in advance, which just seems odd to me.

Amazing food and a really good value lunch menu makes this a really great place to get take away from. Will need to go one day to eat in to check out the full menu.

A little gem. Went here last night very friendly nice lady serving us we decided to have the Korean hot pot as we had never tried before and sounded really nice. We had to move tables as all are not equipped with heat for the hot pot but it wasn’t an issue. The food came quick and tasted absolutely delicious. On top of that it was pretty good value for money. A nice little place with nice staff and amazing food what more could you ask for. Will definitely be going back.

Masil has very deliceous foods and I went there with my friendto have lunch. It had a reasonable price and had very friendly people working there. It is also right next to the Penrhyn Road campus of Kingson University

Delicious Korean food with an affordable price!

We just stopped here for lunch. I enjoyed a lovely Greek salad. Very nice. I look forward to our next visit.

The food tasted great and the stuff was very friendly, however was more expensive compared to 80% small local businesses like this. My girlfriend and I spent 40 pounds but we both weren’t full after eating. I would more recommend this restaurant to people who cannot eat a lot.

Why do they stick to tiny portions? It's not a fancy place but a local restaurant. ppl expect to be full with main meal without appetizer or dessert. What's the point of those cute little tiny bowls and plates? We just need filling and satisfying foods.

Erm if you have had Korean food ever. This ain't it. The quality was soo poor and there is no way on this good earth I am ever going back. The two god things about is it are; it is a very clean space and the service is great hence the two not one stars.

Had a delicious meal at this small Korean/Japanese restaurant in Surbiton. Had a lovely crisp Korean lager, followed by edamame, kimchi, and crispy sea weed. For my main I had a spicy beef ramen which was amazing, perfect amount of spice. The kimchi was so good that I got an extra portion. The interior was also really cool! Definitely recommend this place.

A nice small Korean Japanese restaurant in Surbiton. 👍🏻: The seafood pancake and prawn tempura. 👎🏻: The unagi rice is cold and salty. The dining table is very sticky.

Delicious food all round, also bonus that it’s great value. My go to if I feel like a nice heart-warming meal. I don’t feel like you can go wrong on the menu, just check the spicy level if you’re not that way inclined as theres a couple of dishes are pretty hot! The owners are also lovely and really look after you and can guide you through the menu if you have any questions and like to try everything like I do. Looking forward to our next meal!

Lovely neighborhood restaurant- newly renovated, contemporary and clean. Hand sanitizing on arrival and spacing between tables. Lunch time set menu is a treat- salad and starter (gyoza or tempura prawns) + main- 6 set menus as options (all delicious) or the full menu is available. Favorites are the Masil ramen (spicy) and spicy chicken. If you are dining in and want sushi- you need to pre-book and tell them, this is in effort to have fresh food and limit waste. The staff are very accommodating, great service all around. Great to dine in or take away!

This is the kind of place you want to love. It’s family owned, clean inside and has all the possibilities of being somewhere good to eat and have a good evening. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the staff (who are genuinely lovely) it falls far short of expectations. The past three times visiting, they have run out of key ingredients (salmon or sushi rice) which means the menu is considerably reduced in size and leads to disappointment when order after order is rejected. The other disappointment this time was the wrong food was delivered, the wrong order had been written down (chicken katsu simple rather than with yakki udon). The pile of rice lacked flavour and stuck in the mouth, without any sauce to save it. The chicken was pleasant though. Unfortunately for a Valentine’s Day evening this was incredibly disappointing and we ended up very disappointed on what should have been a lovely evening. It’s a shame as this is the nearest place to where we live and we want to love it but unfortunately I don’t think we’ll be back as it ends up being a disappointment every time.

OK Japanese food. Didn't find it particularly good. The chicken main dish for nearly 20 quid felt very expensive.

I had a takeaway in the past. Compared to the price I paid, the amount of food was very small. Food was just okay.

Food is good with reasonable price, but portion is small. If you are hungry, you will not get full with 1 main menu (around £9 - £10). I hope they could be little more generous in portion. Ramen is Korean instant noodle style which I like. But I think Masil has to mention it on the menu, because many people would expect Japanese Wagamama style ramen.

Most authentic Korean restaurant in London by far. Very clean, not too salty or sweet, crisp taste. If this restaurant was closer to central London it will be the Best Korean Restaurant in London.

Great food, friendly staff and decor. Was quiet when we went but will return for sure. If you haven’t been yet try it out.

They had me at the steel chopsticks. Great food and service, mainly because it was empty when we walked in. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Yaki Udon and it’s essentially the best of both worlds! Great to find a lovely local restaurant that ticks all our boxes; will definitely come back soon.

Great food and lovely service. We ordered 2 starters of skewers and dumplings and the Katsu Curry with Udon noodles. It was a bit quiet when we were there- but it meant quick service. Very happy to have such a great restaurant so close to home!

Masil is a gem of a restaurant - I was introduced to it by a friend and have been back 3 times already. The food is fresh, beautifully presented and the staff are friendly and very attentive. I’d recommend the Korean pancakes, tempura prawns, katsu chicken and dynamite sushi rolls (although to be honest, there are a number of great dishes to choose from). Prices are very reasonable to so well worth a visit.

A bit disappointed by the seafood ramen. Hardly any juice, plenty of noodles and couple of bits of seafood. However kimchi was nice. Visited with 2 x friends, who ordered different noodles. One liked it, the other didn't. They also had chocolate fudge cake for dinner and it was ok.

If you want a Ramen which is like a Wagamama dont go here. Basically a pack of spicy super noodles with hardly any veg. Chicken mayo rice was ok. Ramen terrible.

Lovely little restaurant with great service. Just off the main road, which may explain why it was a little quiet. However, food was tasty and beautifully presented. My second time in 2 weeks and I would thoroughly recommend trying it!

Went here with gf and was blown away by the calamari which was amazing. Happy hour with 20% off bill between 17:30 and 18:30 which is not needed as the prices are already very reasonable. The staff was very friendly and I would definitely come again.

Absolutely amazing food, delicious authentic flavours and lovely staff. They have great value and feels like a real treat but at an affordable price. Would defiantly recommend anyone to this stylish restaurant!

Great little Japanese/Korean restaurant. Friendly service and freshly cooked food at very reasonable prices. We had two of the lunchtime set menu options and both were good. I recommend the spicy chicken. We washed it down with a warm carafe of sake. Highly recommended...we will go again soon.

Visited for lunch and place was fairly quiet to begin with but got busier over the hour. Ordered the katsu curry and masil ramen. Food was standard. Not the best Japanese/Korean food we’ve had. Enjoyed the kimchi and miso soup though. Staff friendly and decor simple and clean. Would return to try other meals.

First time visit to this new addition to Surbiton. Nice minimalist decor, spotlessly clean. Very warm and friendly service. Food on menu is a nice selection of Japanese and Korean favourites . Every dish was freshly prepared and tasted great. Prices are also very reasonable. Great place for dinner will definitely be returning.

Delicious food, good value for money .. hopefully this recent addittion to Kingston will grow in popularity , and more locals will have a chance to enjoy Masil' s food as much I did ... I will definitely be back again .

Masil is undoubtedly a left-field restaurant for its area. Asian fusion is the name of the game here, Vietnamese and Japanese fair are the most prominent dishes and they are delivered with aplomb.

It was lovely and quiet when we came here on a weekday night. The service was so great - really warm and welcoming. The food was also just as good. We had chicken teriyaki skewers, chicken gyoza (steamed), chicken katsu, California rolls and yaki soba (I think!). All were delicious! Will definitely be returning. Large portions too 😋🍣🍢🍛👍

Quiet restaurant for a meal, with great food. Have a local business feel to the restaurant with a bit of an old school serving. If you are looking for a quiet night to spend with someone enjoying your company and have a nice meal definitely the place to go.

We had a very enjoyable meal. Starters were Calamari and Chicken Satay which were both different but very nice. I had Spicy Pork and my wife had Chicken Katsu which is her favourite. Both were very good. Sadly we were the only people there. Will definitely be back as soon as possible

Not only that it's the best Sushi in Kingston and Surbiton, it also serves fantastic Korean and Japanese food. Ingredients are always high quality. The Katsu curry tastes just it tasted in Japan. Very friendly service as well. We love to eat here.

Went there with my husband for lunch and we totally loved the ambience and the food. However the quantity of food was less for the price paid. The food tasted yum and fresh.

What a gem! This place is fantastic! My husband and I have been there 3 times and tried a range of different dishes - every single one of them was superb. Prices are reasonable considering the portion size and quality of the food. Masil become our regular lunch spot during weekends

Had a fantastic meal here last night. Used to go to pho hoi an a lot and was disappointed when it closed but I like masil even better! We had salmon maki rolls, okonomiyaki (tasty octopus pancake) and gyoza dumplings to start, which were all delicious. This was followed by salmon teriyaki and spicy pork (ask for extra spicy if you like it hot). Portions were large and really good value. Highly recommended!

The atmosphere is nice, but the food is not worth the price. We had a sushi roll that was still warm and soggy, the ramen was a disaster, something that tastes like supermarket ready made noodles, pieces of beef and an egg nothing like the real ramen you would expect. It's a shame as we wanted to support local business, but I guess it's not the one.

I visited Masil for the first time in October and became a regular since then. I really enjoyed the sushi selection and special dishes! Would prefer to see some more relevant decoration. Nice idea to have the lunch menu offer. Can't wait to see more...

Thoroughly recommend the Masil, fantastic food in a cool minimalist interior. The deep fried calamari was excellent, loved the Prawn Tempura and Chicken Katsu Curry. When we visited the opening hours were Lunch 12.00-3.00pm Dinner 5.30-9.30pm and they served alcohol. The service was warm and attentive.

Excellent food! I have now been there several times per week since they opened and tried various meals. They were all very tasty. During lunchtime they offer reasonably priced two course menus with Goysa and salad, or prawns and salad as a starter. The dressing for the salad is amazing! The decoration is minimalistic, but I like it. It gives a feeling of professionalism and good hygiene. Staff is very friendly as well.

The prices are quite low comparing to other restaurants in Kingston upon Thames and there are 3 dish set menu offers during lunch time. Regarding decoration, on one hand it is clean, lean and minimalist which I like it, on the other hand I would like to see more Japanese/Korean related decorations. Regarding payments, the accept cash and VISA/Mastercard payments but no American Express. Overall, I really like that place and it is totally recommended.

Visited today for lunch menu. We ordered set lunch option 2 and my boyfriend got okonomiyaki starter and udon noodle soup with prawn tempura. So we first received a salad each and my 2 gyozas. I did order vegetarian noodles so I thought the dumplings would be vegetarian too- nope, they were chicken. Certainly delicious but something to keep in mind if you think you're getting vegetarian lunch. Salad was fresh, light, simple and had fantastic Korean dressing. It was a very modest portion. After we finished the salads and dumplings, the waitress brought my boyfriend's ​okonomiyaki skewer. Yup 1. We halved it and it was delicious. Missing bonito flakes and seaweed sprinkles, but hey- still tasty! The mains arrived shortly after. My "spicy" veggie udon, was not spicy at all. Not even a little. I am confident that they underspiced my dish on purpose. I know Koreans love spice and this was far from my expectations. I am Caucasian so I can only guess they thought I couldn't handle it. I loved the flavour, the noodles were bouncy and veggies not mushy. But I loooove spice! The tempura prawn udon soup was okay. The prawns were undoubtedly the best part of the dish. Their flavour and texture were superb! The soup- very very VERY mild. Barely any flavour. It looked like soy sauce based soup, but was not very salty. There was no condiments on the table, so we couldn't adjust the dishes. And whilst I mention our table, I need to add that the whole restaurant is so so empty it feels cold. There are no decorations on the walls, nothing on any of the tables except for 2 plants on the middle table dividing restaurant (not part of seating area). The entire place is just so simplistic. If you're going to try the food- you must try the tempura prawns! And if you like spicy food, maybe mention that you really enjoy hot food? P.S. I don't think they serve alcohol there...

Delicious and caringly presented fresh Japanese food with Korean twist in menu. The interior simple and elegant. That was our second lunchtime with the well priced lunch set menus. First evening visit tonight....

All dishes were superb, particularly the spicy chicken with rice. Would have liked to have eaten in as the decor is very cool. Licensed soon I believe but 'bring you own' at the moment anyway. Would def recommend if you're a fan of Waggas, etc.

Had the Chicken Katsu which was among the best I have had. The staff are friendly and on both occasions that I have visited, attentive and eager to please. Pleasant stripped back decor and a nice loo.

This Restaurant has only just opened and when I visited for lunch they were only taking cash payments (They will accept cards shortly). We ordered from the two course lunch menu which was good value. The food was good but not spectacular, for example the noodle soup was nice but appeared to be made with instant noodles.
