This is an amazing little restaurant. Went with in a group of four & the staff helped us get a good variety of dishes including vegetarian. The quality of the sushi was fabulous.

Spectacular food and service. Can recommend the Dragon Roll in particular. Couldn’t ask for more. Will be going back as soon as I can.

Staff are perfect, ambience is brilliant and the food is unbelievable. The only downside is the Takoyaki is so good I order 12 each time I go with my wife and I'm afraid they will start to think of me as the Takoyaki guy

We love Obon. Just wish there was a bit more space between the tables because we sat next to a very quiet couple that was Def listening in to our conversation. Everything else was perfect.

Made the journey to come here twice and been turned away both times. They don’t say online anywhere that their kitchen closes at 20:30 despite being open until 22:30 so beware of that. The second time they were apparently fully booked and couldn’t even fit 1 person, even though the restaurant was half empty. Been disappointed twice so I won’t be trying again.

It’s best to make a reservation for lunch on weekdays😬😬walkin only accepts up to four people, and after that everyone has to wait at least 1 hour The food quality is good, the restaurant space is not big, but because of the small number of tables, it is not overwhelming👍👍

Came here for the first time tonight with my wife and I have to say it’s one of the best meals we’ve ever had. The young man serving us was excellent, and the food was fantastic…can’t wait to come back.

The sashimi and sushi were so delicious that I went there for lunch about twice a month for the three years I was stationed here! I was with my 2-year-old child, and there was a baby chair, and my son ate delicious udon noodles and was very satisfied!

So happy we found this absolute gem. The food here is very fresh and tasty. Every bite was a delight! We ordered a lot and were surprised that every single meal served was so delicious. I recommend takoyaki, spicy ebi karage, miso, sashimi sets, nigiri and spicy tekka . The service was good as well, all the staff were very welcoming. Can’t wait to return for more.

Hair found in the food my son was eating. It was his birthday. They offered to replace the dish, but we had eaten most of it, and lost our appetite after seeing the long light colored hair. Requested if they could discount the food instead, which the waiter agreed to. We were still charged the full cost. The lady working there (probably the manager) seems rude. Got a dirty look for politely asking for ice with the soft drink. The atmosphere seemed good, food was of good quality and fresh, but things felt disorganised. I don't mind spending money on good food, but I didn't see the value in it. The roles were average. Nothing special here. The waiter was nice or would have been a one star.

Another trip to Obon for my pescatarian mother. The greeting and service overall was awesome. We ordered a Yamato Platter (with a couple of mods) and soft drinks (tea, mineral water). Every member of staff (FOH, kitchen) was friendly and smiley but also natural in their demeanor. We weren't rushed, pushed anything and any "specific" requests were dealt with happily and with ZERO fuss. The fish was fresh-tasting, well presented and plentiful. It baffles me that this place is ONLY #4 in Kingston. When it comes to quality, value and service; this place is the best in London. Book your table! It is (quite rightly) very busy every night. I'm a waiter, done this sh!t for 32yrs with all sorts of companies. These guys do it better than I've ever seen. Polite, efficient, tasty, plentiful, amicable and reasonable on the wallet. I'm so happy this place is only 10min walk from my home.

Food is superb. I went so many times with my wife that I think we have tried everything on the menu and there is not something that I would not reccomend. The gyoza for example are something unreal, I have been trying many japanese restaurant but Obon beat them on all the aspects: they are crispy, mouth watering and super tasty. The selection of sashimi is amazing along with the rolls (super good is the Soft shell crab and the dragon roll), the tartare (both salmon and red tuna) is great; the octopus is another universe; i mean, everything is very very good. So far, it is my favourite japanese restaurant in London and some Michelin stars ones are mediocre if compared to Obon. Please, do not change!

Obon: a petit Japanese udon restaurant that supplies a sense of Japan that cannot be found anywhere else in the whole of the Uk. (5 stars) Location: Obon is located close to the heart of Kingston but the road it’s on is considerably quieter. You must make sure to have a basic knowledge of Kingston in order to find an area to park and to also make sure you leave yourself enough time, taking the unpredictability of the traffic into acount. Even on a week day there can be traffic jams which can put a halt to your plans and due to the small amount of customers Obon can take its important that you not only book but make sure that you arrive at the agreed booking time. With this being said the staff are all lovely so if you are running late, a quick call is all that is required to just give Obon a chance to understand your position. The food: The array of exquisitely prepared sashimi will be sure to create the sensation that you are in a top Japanese restaurant in japan and the flavour of the fish does not fail to match expectations, which will be very high after just one glance at your meal. The fish is delicately seasoned and practically melts on your tongue, this causes a lovely sensation and is genuinely the finest sushi I have tasted in the uk and even matches a lot of the top restaurants in japan. On top of just the traditional types of sushi, which to many is maki rolls Obon also offers many other delicious options such as soft shell crab and even Unagi don, which I must highly recommend due to it consistently being the highlight of my meal. For those of you that were interested in the quality of the basic Japanese dishes such as miso soup or edamame they do not fail to leave you in grand anticipation for what is to come for they are, simply speaking, incredibly good. The miso, in my opinion, is truly remarkable and creates a lasting feeling of warmth throughout your entire body, on top of that it is far superior to other miso’s that I have tasted in all other areas of the world. Overall the quality of the food is something you would expect from a world famous Michelin star restaurant and if you want Japanese food it’s the only place I can recommend. The Restaurant: The restaurant itself is small but authentic in nature and because it only has a enough tables to host around 20 people at the most, the service is exceptionally good and your food is always out quickly so you will not be left hungry for very long. The staff are kind and friendly. And it’s always an enjoyable experience being waves goodbye as you leave the restaurant. You’re also able to watch as they prepare the food, which for some could be entertaining. There are Japanese photos scattered around the room and this further creates an authentic feel. The atmosphere is not lively but it is a restaurant and not a bar so is an ideal location if you are wanting high quality food. With this being said it is still a great place to go with friends and I consistently am able to have a great time no matter the occasion. Price: Obviously, the price of the food is always an important topic to come to and despite the cost of the sushi being slightly higher than you may expect from a small restaurant in Kingston, I would have to say that for the quality of the food it is ultimately a bargain. For three people, you would be spending around £100 so it isn’t cheap but you can go for cheaper types of food such as udon, which is still amazing quality and won’t set you back as much money. Overall: Obon is still my favourite restaurant in the whole of the Uk and is perfect for a special occasion but it isn’t the sort of place you’d go for a casual night out. The food is beyond incredible and thus they can cater for both children and adults by meeting every bodies needs. For anybody that enjoys sushi, I would urge you to give it a go, you won’t regret it

Amazed by their quality of food! I almost find myself eating in Japan until I heard the owner speaking Korean Hahaaa... Even though it is a bit pricey, it worths my money... I will recommend the scallop sushi and the Chirashi Don. Their rice is authentic sushi rice with vinegar.👍🏻Tuna Don is good too but I like more variety of fishes. It would be great if you can create your own Don. There is a paid parking lot near the restaurant. Very convenient.

First of all, DON’T EVER TRY WAGAMAMA if you want good Japanese food. In stead, you must try out this cost restaurant in Kingston. Staffs here provide excellent services and foods are one of the best you could find in London.

If you’re looking for a perfect lunch spot, this is it. Delicious food, excellent service and an all round enjoyable experience. Can’t fault it.

Delicious fresh sushi, great variety are reasonably priced. The atmosphere was nice, perfect for our anniversary dinner and the service and speedy and warm. I really recommend the chefs selections and the Agedashi tofu.

Was overall a good experience, I came to try some different food/sushi, and all was very well presented. The only thing I didn't like and was the origin of the fish, I expected wild fish and instead was farmed fish. That was a minus to me. Very attentive team working ,a perfectly well presented and clean restaurant. Very small restaurant so definitely make sure you have a booking before coming in.

We made a table reservation a week before attending the branch in Kingston and received our confirmation email. We arrived 15 minutes earlier and were told that they couldn't find our names on the booking and were fully booked. There were only two couples in the restaurant and all the other tables were free.

A small, cozy Japanese restaurant. They had ‘more’ sushi and sashimi options (such as hamachi) then other Japanese restaurants and the quality was good. I love that they don’t localise much their food to cater the preference of local people. Kushi dishes were my favourite and they even had quail eggs which was a very local Japanese dish. Had a great evening although wine was really expensive and the portion was a bit too small.

Amazing sashimi from all over the world. Had the combo 2 with 18 pieces. This included fatty tuna (Toro), yellowtail, surf clams, turbot wing, octopus, sea bass and sea bream. The service was also fabulous! Highly recommend it!

There was a good variety of sashimi and it was wonderfully fresh and tender. The grilled eel was also delicious . The staff are friendly and attentive. We will definitely come here again.

If you are looking for real Japanese food in the UK, this is your choice. Fresh sasgumi, sushi and udon, Can't compare with the chain store such as Itsu, Wagamama, Yoshi!... Great service and highly recommend to try.

Truly love the food here, its always so full of flavour. The sushi especially is absolutely beautiful, best I've ever had in my life. This place is absolutely worth visiting, there's even another in Teddington.

I’ve been to the Teddington branch more often and this was my first time trying the Kingston one! I have to say they maintain the standards across both really well. All fish were undoubtedly fresh (just wish the rice were not falling apart so easily) and ALL the starters, sides and the Unagi rice were all on the point! My personal favourite was the chicken skewers And the tempura prawn 😍 LOVE their Yuzu sorbet which was sooo refreshing and tasty! It’s a must try! Wish their dessert menu was slightly bigger tho. But all in all if you’re close by and craving Japanese this is the place to go (but make sure to book)

The most delicious sushi and sashimi and by far the best place to eat in Kingston. It’s an intimate venue so bookings are essential. We got a bottle of wine, 10 pieces of sashimi, 4 pieces of nigiri and two rolls at 6 pieces each. It’s on the pricer side but definitely highest quality of fish and i can’t wait to go back. Staff was super friendly and made me, my wife and a guest of ours feel super welcome on a Saturday. We were all new to the area, and saw high reviews on this location and we all had Japanese food cravings. We didn't have a reservation, but we decided to try our luck. We got lucky as there was a slot when we walked in - in between 2 bookings: before 715pm The staff cohesion was good and the atmosphere was nice. Food was excellent. The sashimi was really fresh, the dragon roll was on point and the chirashi don hit the spot We couldn't exactly pinpoint if the staff were Korean or Japanese and it was a close bet - but we decided it was a mix crew, we could really tell the team was tight-knit and worked cohesively as a unit Thank you for the experience, we'll definitely be back again soon - the next time with a reservation

Really tasty authentic Japanese. Really was tempted to put 4 stars instead of 5, because it’s really is quite pricy, specially for the location. But perhaps this kind of prices is actually just a normal; and hopefully employees get some decent pays.

Best sushi so far in London. Every thing on the menu was tasty and very fresh on my three visits. One point could be improved is customer service. On one visit we had to wait another hour for the next dishes to arrive and we received no apology for it. It was a one time thing, but in general staff could be more welcoming.

Things to note about this place: Its almost always busy, you should definitely book in advance to avoid disappointment. We got lucky and there was a cancellation after the staff had turned us away. Cute small restaurant in central kingston Good things: • The salmon tartar was godly. It seems like such a small portion in the photos but it was so rich and tasty that I actually struggled to finish it. You will not regret having it. Though I have never liked salmon roe. • Seaweed was nice • Sushi you could taste the freshness. The sushi rice was still warm, the ingredients were still good, high quality product. • Friendly staff • Miso was super nice and tasty Bad things: ° Boy this was pricey for Kingston. I spent almost £40 includng service charge.. ° The staff did mishear my friend so we received a butter fish nigiri but we didn't ask for it. My friend asked for 1 unagi nigiri a few times, we thought staff had got that but an extra thing turned up on the table.. ° The Tofu just wasn't nice. The texture looked crispy, but it was like a crispy coat on top of jelly that coated the tofu. It was so odd and my friend couldn't finish it ° Kaiso salad was standard, nothing special

We had a wonderful lunch authentic Japanese food, sashimi, gyoza, tempura, all really impressed with, would suggest you book as it's very popular , we were luck to be there before opening and manged to get a table. Highly recommended fabulous food fresh and authentic, staff very good , goes without saying incredibly clean ...expect nothing else from Japanese do try if your looking for Japanese food.

Late Mothers Day treat for the old dear. 6pm booking. Quiet when we got there but filled to capacity over the next hour or so. Ordered the Yamato platter. A BIG, sharing plate consisting of pretty "safe" options (tuna, salmon, yellowtail). Swapped out the California Roll for Spider Crab at a very small surcharge. A perfect, staggered arrival of the food and it was DELICIOUS. Tender, fresh and well crafted. Huge bowl of pickled ginger and mountains of wasabi. I found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. Not my first time there, won't be my last.

Best sushi in London! We have been going there for 5+years and service and sushi has always been 5*. Its really an hidden gem!

Really good Japanese food which isn’t cheap but is great quality. Word of warning, you definitely need to book in advance (as it only seats around 20 people) which as far as I can tell can only be done by phone. We went for the set menu which had a refreshing salad and a wonderful fried tofu. The sashimi portion was generous with thick cuts and was simply delicious. The mains were also prepared very well and I regret going for more of the excellent sashimi instead of the hot dishes like the eel rice. Rounded off a great meal with some subtle Japanese ice cream. We would definitely return as there are quite a few things we’d like to try!

Was back home in Kingston for the first time in a while and had seen the great reviews online so decided to check it out, what a find! The sushi was some of the freshest, cleanest, softest and just all around best I've had in London. But don't sleep on the hot food, the takoyaki, yakatori and ebi katsu were unreal, great flavours all over the shop. The star of the show however was the tuna tartare, as a chef who's had tuna tartare on my own menu a number of times, it was something I aspire to create, I was shocked by how well done it was, simple but beautiful. Will be back as soon as possible.
