Original Keys in East Riding of Yorkshire

I've been in s few dumps before but this place is up there with the worst. Dreadful food and miserable dire staff. Not z zmile amongst gem. Dreadful atmosphere and dirty and untidy. Had the feeling nobody cared. How they have some of the positive reviews is a mystery. As someone else put it, it must be friends of the owner doing it. Never again.

Excellent Sunday lunch, whole chicken breast, cauliflower, broccoli, carrot & swede, Yorkshire puds & stuffing. Tasty gravy. All home made & fresh veg. Pleasant staff, good service. Reasonably priced. Would recommend. Served hot!! Will deffo go again when in Driffield.

Came in for lunch midweeks and a bit of a mixed bag. The all day breakfast was good, filling and substantial but the Ploughman’s wasn’t good. 2 slices of ham and pickles were okay, but a small ramekin of grated cheese is not what you expect in a ploughman’s. Some nice crusty bread would have been good and not sure about the large portion on the plate of various salad items mixed together isn’t the usual. Certainly wouldn’t order it again and wouldn’t pay nearly £35 for a breakfast, ploughman’s, chips a gin and a soda water.

Absolutely amazing and quick service. Lovely staff. Will definitely be recommending and will 100% return again :)

Dreadful food, no idea why the scores are so high to be honest. Must be the owners friends being told to write good reviews to boost his rating

I went for a mid week lunch and was charged £15 for a small tuna salad with half a coke. Was just a basic leaf salad with a small amount of tuna and for some reason was warm! My friend was charged £38 for two basic lunches. The pub is dirty looking and unsurprisingly empty. Staff however were polite and attentive. I understand pubs are struggling but over charging customers is not helping as we are struggling too. We will be heading to wetherspoons in future

Booked a table, it was ready on time, spotlessly clean. Service was excellent as was the food, chips great,not hurried and puddings very good, children emptied plates. Really enjoyed it, beer great too.

The most awful food I've had in years!! My son had the most terrible burger ever! Dripping in grease and totally under cooked.. my pie was dreadful and obviously had been heated up loads.. it was served with cold chips . And the very young girl and I say lightly "cooking" was quite clearly out of her depth!! As we heard her asking how long do I microwave this for!! We left all our food as it was inedible 😧

I haven’t been in this area for over 8 yrs now & I decided to visit the place I came to a lot with friends. Wow 🙄 what a dive!! No way I could dance as my feet was sticking to the floor. I asked the Dj for a tune and got looked at like a piece of muck. The security was rude, agro and clearly wanted a fight. The bar staff had attitude especially the lady. Not allowed drinks outside even in plastic glasses. Under age all over the place and can’t handle their drinks or narcotics. Couldn’t careless here won’t be returning. Don’t go

Called in for a snack but ended up with the chilli and home made chips, my wife had Hunters chicken. The staff were very friendly, the food was delicious and piping hot. Real homecooked chips. Chicken was well cooked without being dry, the bacon was excellent and the two types of cheese were melted and not thrown on as an afterthought. Toilets very clean. Will definitely go again

Good staff . Good hot pub grub. Couldn't fault it Would come again when in the area. Even tea and coffee in Good size mugs

Ate on Sunday evening - great to be able to find somewhere that serves good pub food on a Sunday night until 8pm. Adults and teenagers happy with their meals - gammon steak, steak and ale pie, scampi and chicken burger. Liked that you had a choice of peas and a choice of chips or skinny fries. Good kids menu although veggie or vegan options would be an idea and great dessert choices. Drinks were good. Staff super friendly and helpful. Nice community feel with a range of age groups all mixing well.

Nice setting in Driffield, comfortable pub with a great menu, lovely hot food, a very good selection of drinks and very helpful and polite staff. Well worth a visit.

Found this place by chance. Young lady that served us was very welcoming, friendly and efficient. We felt comfortable and relaxed. Clean. Good menu with tasty, and reasonably priced food.

Came in not long before food was due to end Friday 23rd. Wasn’t a problem, friendly staff, excellent food for us all. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Thank you to all your team.

What a nice little gem while we waited for our train back to Leeds. Troy was an outstanding waiter and such a lovely person. Food was like my mums home cooked meals. Mouth watering. I could have licked the plate clean if it wasn’t uncouth...

The Original Keys is situated in the centre of Greater Driffield. The standard pub Sunday Lunch was as expected with lean beef , Yorkshire pudding and plenty of vegetable. Perfectly adequate.

On our first visit to Driffield been out for a fabulous meal. On our return we decided to give this pub a try .Couldn't believe we were told that they had stopped serving at 8.30 on a Saturday night.

After waiting over an hr for food on Thursday lunch we had to walk out. Only 2 staff working. We ordered first and everyone else complained about wait so got served before us. We travel from Scarborough to eat there but never again.

Totally disappointed that they didn't follow through the government scheme up to tonight, we have been regular customers for a good five years and we felt totally cheated on that we were not told that it was removed tonight our custome has now been compley...

I found this establishment one day because the one I usually eat at had it's kitchen closed. So I went into the Keys instead. Which turned out to be a good move. I chose the steak pie with home made chips and garden peas. And...

My husband and myself decided to take our daughter and grandson for an half term treat,and what a treat it was, my daughter and I chose the posh fish finger and chips yummy 5*,husband chose the delicious homemade steak pie and chips excellent 5*,my grandson chose the Omg!! Beefburgers it was a challenge but he said it was delicious, they can't wait for the next visit, also to the lovely friendly lady who served us 5*.

Visiting Driffield for a family wedding we popped in here for some lunch. Excellent menu with loads of choice. Food freshly cooked and was delicious. A really nice place .

Had lunch here had to wait a bit but it was well worth it had posh fish fingers and chips and mushy peas well I’ve never seen so much on one plate it was delicious if going skip breakfast we went on market day and it was lovely as well the staff very friendly hope to go again

My wife and visited today after first calling to look at the Driffield Canal. It’s been a while since our last visit (about 3 years)and we were pleased to see that a refurbishment has been carried out since then. However, the food supplied was just as good as we remembered (though probably not the same staff). The bar lady was very pleasant and attentive. Choice of food excellent but we settled for ...... burger, beef lasagne plus onion rings!Well cooked and served, so much so that I don’t think that it will be 3 years until next timeThank you for your attention!

I went here today with my 6 year old grandson...we received a lovely welcome from lee...when the gammon steak came with all the trimmings it looked amazing...it tasted even better ! Would highly reccomend...lovely beer garden to...

Called in for lunch on Monday and was told by the barman that there was a party booked in,but if we ordered straight away the kitchen would do our meals first.The Steak pie was excellent and proper chips.We were well looked after and very reasonable prices if on a budget.

Absloute beautifull homemade food and fresh vegatables , will be visiting again soon,cleared plates from all kids also

Just thought I’d leave a note here with this being the biggest place everyone goes to on a night out in Driff. As most people are at like 2am I was quite drunk on the dance floor in here. Bar staff constantly short change me and my mates and ignored me when we said anything. Feel like the staff here knows what they’re doing. Drinks are expensive enough already. Rather go Georgies anyday. Bring back Debbie.

Last thurssday i took the wife and kippers out too eat at Original keys. it was our second time eating theyre and thought it would be decent. told the waitress to fetch us two pies and wat she brout back was apaling. First of all they were minisule. my first thought isTHIS MADE FOR ANTS. finished it in a couple minutes. ALMOST FINISHED BEFORE KIPPERS NUGGETS HIT THE TABLE. blood was boiling. wife tells me to calm it cos im on last warning in driff so we left without a word. told her pie was ok an she was full? but for my hard erned cash this int okay. Absolutely fummin at end of day. not comin here agen! wouldnt feed my kids this sh**te.

Called for evening meal, I had gammon, egg, pineapple, chips , salad. Large portion. My partner had chicken and chirizo kebabs. Spot on food, cost 2 meals for 14 pounds.

After eating at this restaurant numerous time before leaving a review I can certify a great time.Not only do you receive a warm welcome into the pub, the service throughout is more than dignified. The first time I walked in I was very apprehensive but the food/staff speak for themselves. Tremendous food and (hard to say) even better staff made my nights tremendous. Great portion sizes and at first I thought they were trying to make up for the flavour to the food, but I was very wrong. Great flavour and taste clearly cooked by a great chef. 100% recommend and will definitely be returning.

Sat in original keys having Sunday lunch. The steak and ale pie is beautiful with lovely rich gravy. Best Sunday lunch I've had for a while.

Visited here today with a friend. We haven’t been to this place before and we will certainly not be returning.. we ordered lasagne and skinny fries and lasagne with chips, the chips were potato wedges and the skinny fries were chips. The meal was quite nice but it took almost an hour to arrive, we would of walked out if we hadn’t paid before we got the meal. There was no other people in the restaurant so why did it take so long to cook a meal, what would happen if it was full, I hate to think.

Only popped in for a nice cold glass of wine which is what we got. Lovely staff in here and a nice area outside to sit and enjoy the sunshine. The pub inside looks like it could do with a make over. Not very inviting.

Had a delicious meal with family, very tasty well presented, wheelchair accessible from the door anojoining Crosshill carpark, outdoor seating, friendly staff and fair prices.

We came here as part of a girls night out. It was early, so not crowded so easily got served at the bar. Friendly staff, good selection of gins (our chosen poison for the evening) but a bit pricier than other pubs and bars in the area. Got busier later in the evening.

I often call in here as the food and beer are good and I have always found the staff to be friendly and efficient. The Wetherspoons factory might be a tiny bit cheaper but their food is bland, the service robotic and the surroundings soulless. I'd rather pay a little bit more to drink in a real pub not a fake.

Absolutely fantastic 3 course meal. Brilliant service as always the food was just amazing Matt’s stuffing was the best ever. All the courses were spot on would recommend anyone to try this fabulous value for £19.95 great party atmosphere Thankyou Matt and Leigh x

Fantastic food, all our meals were superb, we did have a 40 minute wait but at least you know it is freshly made for you and not reheated. Highly recommended don.t judge the book by it's cover.

This was our first visit to any establishment in Driffield, and would like to have spent more time in the area. We arrived after visiting Robert Fuller ‘s place in Thixendale, looking for sustenance. We found it here , and enjoyed our meals. Not enough time to really express any higher than we have, but likely to be visiting again in the future. The giant burger looked as if it needed a giant to eat it!

Fantastic food Melt in your mouth meat in the steak pie. Chicken and leek pie amazing. Cheese and broccoli bake excellent. Great service and atmosphere. The chips are to die for. Highly recommend anyone to try the food.

Good service - however it took ages for food to arrive. When it did it was not what we had ordered and my meat pie was cold with a hard and difficult to eat crust. My wife's lasagne was tough and difficult to eat (she left most of it). When I pointed out the cold pie the staff said that all he could do was apologise. Really? He could have offered to replace it or at least reheat it to a decent temperature. The chairs also could do with cleaning. What was supposed to be red was a turgid brown. I do not think we will be calling in here again.

Popped in for a quick bite and was pleasantly surprised! I haven't been in a while and wondered if the menu had changed and if the food quality was still good. It surpassed my expectation. I was greeted by a friendly lady who asked what I would like to drink and if I was eating. I had a look at the menu and decided to go for an OMG burger and a pint. I took a seat and the lady came and set the table and said food wouldn't be long. The food must have come within about 20 minutes which was good considering how busy it was. The food portions were big and I was very impressed with the homemade chips and onion rings. The onion rings were crispy yet melted in your mouth. Will definitely be back again and would recommend. The bar staff were friendly and very obliging considering how busy it was. Definitely worth a visit.

Nice pint of Mansfield smooth if you go in during the day it's in a glass weekend it's plastic glasses during the day the meals are lovely

In before noon for a quick lunch.First customer.I had happy memories of tasty food in generous portions plus fast and cheerful service.Not been for a while!I wanted something spicy -but no such thing on the menu.When I asked they said there was Chicken Madras left from the day before-it could be reheated and sernved with rice and a poppadom.I ordered and paid.25 minutes later I was still waiting and still hungry.Another 5 minutes and I asked how long it would be.They were'Just dishing up'.After a full 35 minutes I got my food.It was OK.Not very spicy but a reasonable portion.Disappointed.I won't be going again.

Two of us popped in here for a couple of pints after we couldn't get served in Wetherspoons up the road.There was only one hand pull bitter on offer and it was a very strong beer which was not ideal. The Mansfield Smooth was an acceptable alternative.The bacon sandwiches we had were really good and the welcome very friendly.

I work here, but also eat during my breaks and I also come with friends and my partner on my days off! All food is lovely, homemade, and definitely value for money! Would absolutely recommend

Had a bit of a transformation since our last visit but still an excellent varied menu and some great beers. They serve proper homemade food and the Steak and Ale Pie was beautiful, lovely pastry and succulent meat filling, there was a bit of a wait for the food as is cooked to order, but well worth the wait. With reasonable prices and great beer it has to be on your list.

Food nice can eat inside or out very relaxed good priced meals and homemade lots of meat in the pies and light snacks good allowing dogs in too

Popped in here for the first time today...greeted warmly...good selection of food...order was taken quickly and only a fifteen minute wait for food cooked freshly and lovely and hot...very reasonable prices..will call again

We came in for a spot of lunch on the way to a wedding. It was awesome! Posh fish finger sandwich with home cut chips! All very affordable!

We couldn't find anywhere to park in Beverley so kept going to Driffield. This pub is right next to the car park, was doing Sunday lunch at a reasonable price, and the staff were very friendly. It's got a nice outside area too. The meat was fine, plenty of roasties and mash, stuffing was a bit dry and the Yorkshires not very hot, but the vegetables, which came separately in a nice dish, were fresh and excellent. Especially the mashed swede. You wouldn't go here for a romantic night out, and the toilets could do with a makeover, but it made for a quick and easy lunch for us, travelling between Norwich and Newcastle.

place has changed hands - now serves one of the worst "Steak and Ale Pie" I have ever had. Mostly consisted of tomatoes, carrots and parsnip. With a dried up lump of puff pastry on top. I did try to speak to one of the owners, but was repeatedly told that it was, in fact, a steak and ale pie. "We have been making it to the same recipe for 10 years.....Here is the recipe.....Look. Go on - look"No thanks - it's still not a steak pie. And it still won't be in another 10 years.It's a shame because this place used to give a really good feed for a fiver.....Prices have gone up, Quality down. Service was prompt and friendly.

Not eaten here but when the Steam Engine and vintage cars paraded in the town centre, we stopped here for a drink. We sat outside with a lovely cold beer and wine. Very reasonable prices and nice picnic benches.

Ate here as a family and really wish we hadn't bothered. The food was very basic - cheap cuts of meat and literally thrown on the plate. The decor is very dated with dusty ceilings that looked as though they hadn't seen a duster in many years. The tables were sticky. Only plus point is that the staff were friendly.

Been here several times under the previous owner but not so good now.Decor has improved but that is as far as it goes. Food was ok but i did not like the landlords son sat outside smoking then walking in to bring you your food.

Food is really lovely from here but drinks are really overpriced. Also, this is where everyone ends up on a night-out in Driffield, and you find that when you're a bit drunk, the staff overcharge you again for drinks! It's also quite grotty and disgusting. Overall, all it's good for is the food!

Been in a couple of times since the new management have taken over. They seem to be finding their feet and slowly making their own individual stamp on the place. Both of them and all the staff are all really friendly and welcoming. Had Sunday lunch today and it was delicious. Lovely tender beef, mash and roast spuds, five different veg, Yorkshire puds and homemade gravy. Great value for money. Not sure about the people moaning, some saying it looks tired and then others moaning about the new decor! Lovely food and a welcome everytime. I'm not sure what more you could want?

Food has increased in price by roughly 40%. The quality of the food has tumbled drastically. The pastry on the Steak Pie that is served in a dish?? Pastry only on the top and full of air, just dry and crumbles to nothing.Staff were friendly, but the price of drinks has also gone up. Not what it was.New carpets and décor down, but you don't charge your customers for it. Will now have to find somewhere else.

Went in last week as loved the home cooked food however a temporary menu was given due to new management. Had scampi with vegetables and chips but the meal wasnt very hot and the vegetables were frozen not fresh. Husband had steak pie and chip but no vegetables came. The price a bit steep for pie and chips!Price more than previous tenants and the food not very good Very polite staff but will not go back unless menu changes to fresh and home made.

Fantastic and very accommodating lee was great with the kids including two autistic children and the food was lovely we were a large group of ten and the food was quick would defiantly return thank you

I dont know what people are talkin about i went in tonight to give the bew landlords a try one word loverly there are really nice and chatty!! The food was really nice i had the steak pie an it was a good old pie and im a yorkshire man and love a good pie and i cant wait to go try something else there!! Eaten here many times in the past, sorry to say the new management have got it so wrong.First thing you notice is the freshly painted walls, sorry but bathroom blue and green just don't look right together, never mind in a pub.We ordered steak and Guinness pie and haddock both with home made chips and mushy peas.The pie came in a little pot with a puff pastry lid....tasted very much like a stew due to the over board carrot content.The haddock was a pre battered shop bought type.Both came with tinned mushy peas, the home made chips were rather nice.Think the new management are getting things alittle wrong, hopfully things will approve.

The pub is run down and tired but the food is excellent and the portions are huge. It's about to change hands and I hope the new management can preserve the excellent kitchen standards. If they can also return the interior to its obvious former glory (see the original ceiling light fittings) they will be onto a winner. The barman was friendly and efficient. He told us about puddings for £1.

They have several traditional English pub dishes available for around a fiver, which is an excellent deal, especially for a meal that was better than some meals I've paid a lot more for. I had the steak and ale pie with chunky (and I mean CHUNKY) chips and mushy peas with gravy and an extra gravy boat was supplied for those who like their gravy., and it was all excellent.The wife had a the all day breakfast and loved it. Highly recommended and worth a visit.Lovely staff willing to help.Only thing I will say and that was the pub was a bit on the dark side.

make sure you have room for this Sunday lunch. when I visited I had a large breakfast and regretted it as I could not eat all my lunch I would say home size portions and the puddings are to die for

How wrong we were. I joked to my dining partner we'd "risk" eating at the original keys.We were both delighted with our decision to not judge a book by it's cover. Hadn't consulted TripAdvisor and at that point where you really have to eat something, anything!Things looked up as we entered to find a tidy but well used traditional pub, dated on the outside but bustling with around fifteen diners and a few people enjoying a drink.During viewing the menu to decide our eating options we were offered a towel to dry off after been caught in a down pour.A fantastic touch which you wouldn't get everywhere and massively appreciated considering we'd joked about how all we'd wanted was somewhere with food and a towel.Still quite cautious due to the exterior we were pleased to see a traditional pub menu with a good range of starters, mains, baguettes and desserts.A sign advised of home made pizzas but we opted to share the coated cheese and jalapeño bites.£3.95 for a starter seemed expensive considering mains were £4.95(more for steaks)We couldn't of been more wrong, we were presented with a very beautiful looking plate consisting of a brightly coloured side salad. Crisp iceberg lettuce, red onion, a variety of peppers and a very firm tasty tomato topped with a juicy orange. Two ramekins, one with sour cream and the other guacamole. Along with four decent sized crispy coated cheese and jalapeño filled bites.Our mains arrived after fantastic service throughout and after been wrong considering the starter expensive we were further shocked at the quality and portion size of mains.I had opted for a safe option of a smothered chicken breast with chunky chips. Having not read TripAdvisor I hadn't quite been aware of the hype surrounding these chunky bad boys but they genuinely are the biggest tastiest potato based product you'll find on a menu. The chicken was tender, the bacon not too crisp and the side salad fresh and varied.My partner opted for the pork and apple mash which came with a selection of seasonal veg. It looked and tasted very fresh alongside two very nice pork steaks and a generous helping of apple mash. The thyme gravy was to die for. Although I was rather full I had to help my dining partner finish their meal as the portion sizes are fantastic and the gravy drinkable.Was so impressed after finding this little gem that I just had to write a review, genuinely not what I expected from the outside and the quality exceeded expectations for the price. Great value for money and if I could of hung around for tea I'd of been tempted to dine there twice in one day.Can't wait to return and hope the Original Keys doesn't change what it's doing anytime soon.Thanks for making my trip to Driffield.

The food on offer is generous in portion size and not expensive at all. You will not be startled by the menu, it is honest pub food.I have never been a fan of the building, decor or indeed setting. It is a very large place to fill and often you feel like the only person there.On a weekend the younger kids in town do flocks so if you want a quiet meal this is not the place to be

Stopped in Driffield on way back from Bridlington and stumbled upon this after looking at reviews on trip advisor. A really warm welcome from the staff. They welcomed pets so we decided to give it a go. The specials of the day were explained and opted for a chicken roast dinner and I opted for the steak and ale pie.Both meals were enormous and home made and such fantastic value. We will definitely go again whilst on our travels.Well recommended!!! Good old fashioned pub grub!

Visited today with my husband and must say I was very surprised all the food was lovely fresh and homemade. The portions were massive. The staff were lovely and friendly and couldn't do enough for us . I'm so glad we found this place and didn't go to wetherspoons we will be back soon. Ten out of ten from us both.

I've only just seen tonight that original keys is up for sale, I can say I am truly guttad I hope who ever takes over has big feet because them boots she's leaving behaving are big ones to fill, personally whoever is ends up been no offence but won't be able to produce the food she does not even close...... Visiting Driffield from London, viewing properties in the area.The staff were extremely friendly and when ordering food, the chef spoke to my daughter about her gluten intolerance, actually caring about her condition.It has a very traditional and friendly atmosphere. Tables were clean and had menus and condiments without having to ask.The food came and was a delight. Very tasty and filling, but what was more satisfying, was the quality of the food. I cannot recommend this place enough to anybody either visiting, or passing though. A huge thank you to the bar and kitchen staff working Saturday 02nd January 2016 at 2pm.
