Be aware that the cafe is only for those with a ticket to Eltham Palace and Gardens. Disappointed to not be allowed in today as I didn't want to visit the Palace and gardens. Pre covid you could just use the shop and cafe without buying a ticket.

This small cafe is 5 minutes' walk from the Elizabethan/1930s combination of Eltham Palace in south London. You reach the cafe by walking along a lovely, forested path that's very rural. You can sit inside the cafe itself, although there's not much atmosphere there. It's nicer to eat or have a drink in the glassed-in greenhouse part that was originally used as a place where Eltham's owner grew orchids---hence, the name! There's the usual range of teas, cakes and sandwiches. They're beautifully prepared, and everything tastes good. But I found it a bit overpriced for what I ordered: a small salmon sandwich and even tinier salad. Combine this visit with the nearby gift shop, which has some good reproductions of Art Deco objects that are in the house.

But it's nicer to eat in the glassed-in greenhouse part that was originally used for growing orchids---hence, the name. There's the usual range of teas, cakes and sandwiches you find at an English country house cafe. I found it rather overpriced for what I ordered: a small salmon sandwich and even tinier salad. The nearby gift shop has some good reproductions of Art Deco objects (the newer part of Eltham Palace was built in Art Deco style). There are also stuffed toys of the owners' annoying pet lemur.!

Update: April 2025 Still one of the best Costas you can find anywhere in London IMO. Run really well by the very hard working all female team. Always friendly, happy and welcoming. For me, they make some of the best coffees in the chain and it's kept so well unless most stores. Credit to the entire team there because they're all superstars. I'm always there when i get the chance. A lovely Costa in a great Next store. Staff always friendly and professional and the staff always make a great coffee. One of the better run Costas i feel and do like coming back here when i can. Can get busy but that's expected.

We had an incredible experience here.. the decor, fabulous.. the food, very good. But what set it over the top was the service! James mostly took care of us and was so attentive, he made accommodations for us, closed curtains so our baby wouldn’t get blasted by the sun and we could sit in a nice corner spot, checked on us often (honestly everyone did) it was just lovely. If you are looking for a cheeky afternoon beer and some yummy dishes, stop by and enjoy an afternoon chat with the welcoming staff!

My family went here for a Sunday roast. Four of us had Sunday roast and one had risotto. The pork belly was great, the potatoes out of a packet, the Yorkshire pudding was cold and the risotto was so dry. They got three orders for drinks wrong. Absolutely do not waste your money on this place.
