My wife's sister was visiting us and thought I would take my wife and her sister to the Peacock Restaurant as the name was the same as their Maiden name. We had afternoon tea for the 3 of us and they only brought us items for 2 people. We had to complain to receive more cakes, although they didn't bring extra sandwiches. It all came on a long tatty wooden tray instead of on a cake Stand. We had to ask for tea spoons for the tea cups, but didn't bring any spoons for the jam and cream and no tongs for the sugar cubes. We Were very disappointed as wanted this to be a real treat for my sister in law. I certainly will not be returning as we were never offered any compensation for our disappointing experience.

Promotion sounds inviting, read the small print carefully its not half price mains - only if you purchase starters and or puds.......but service extreamly slow, food not very impressive - below average and the overworked waitress was rude.....such a shame as the venue is in a beautiful setting - the revamp is nice but not kept up - has the feel that it needs a deep clean...dont understand the slow service there was hardly anyone in on the lnchtime we visited but our food took an age to come the other table there waited an hour and a half for their lunch with less than four tables in the whole place.- when we arrived some golfers who had been waiting a long time for a breakfast roll had to cancel as it hadnt turned up and their slot for the course was due ........ once our food eventually arrived it was not even a decent standard....very disappointing......i wont be going back .....

The Peacock Restaurant was refurbished not so long ago and it is smart with a comfortable waiting area. We enjoyed our pre-dinner drink, no draught beer, but the bottled beer is quite acceptable. Waitress was friendly and keen to please. Although we weren't in a rush we were at the restaurant for an hour before we had our food, I was rather hungry by the time it came. Pleased to say my steak was excellent, really tasty and cooked to my liking. A real bargain given we went when there was a special offer of half price mains. My wife enjoyed her good portion of tasty chicken. We enjoyed our sweets, tasty and reasonably priced.

As a result of promotional mails four friends booked for lunch. The room is very smart with a good view across countryside. The waitress/ receptionist very friendly but over worked covering the lounge and bar/ reception area. The table was basically laid out no serviette. The food was ordered and took a long time to arrive. When it did two Fish dishes had poorly cooked batter and was too thick. The Lasagne was bland and lacking moisture. The Hunters chicken was edible but fries over done and chicken very dry. Would not return without being assured that the standard has been improved.

The grounds are lovely and beautifully maintained. The Peacock cafe is good for a light lunch, a Cornish cream team or a drink and price of cake. The house tour with Sue 1 was very interesting. She knew the history throughly about the house and family. There was humour within the tour. The house is kept up to a high standard for its age. GREAT DAY OUT

We have dined at the Peacock twice in a week, its that good. Firstly if you have time i suggest arriving an hour prior to your booking so that you can enjoy a couple of drinks and relax in the bar where you are engulfed by the sumptuous leather seating or rock gently in one of the two rocking chairs while taking in the warm glow of the log burner. It really is rather pleasant. Both times we have received a lovely warm welcome and indeed been very well looked after. The restaurant itself is very clean, modern. and well spaced out, so in these difficult times (sanitizer on every table) everyone dinning can be assured that they are being provided with maximum space. The quality of the produce is clearly very high and the chef in the kitchen certainly knows how to prepare, cook and present. I personally can recommend the crab for starters as it really is superb and the potion size is very generous, the 8oz fillet with choice of sides included is not just great value at 21.95 (most restaurants charge 28-32 with no sides included) but it has to be some of the tastiest succulent beef i have had the pleasure to devour. My main on my second visit simply blew me away as i went for the whole Weymouth Lobster with saut'eed potatoes and green beans for an unbelievable price of just 27..95, which was perfectly cooked/ presented and tasted amazing :)) All my fellow diners (10 over the 2 visits) agreed how wonderful the food was while being at such a generous price. We will "definitely" be regular visitors to the Peacock with produce cooked this well.

After all the excitement we wanted to carry this on and treat ourselves to some lunch in the cafe. Mistake!!! Ordered 2 x sandwiches, told a 45 minute wait!!? Still sat here waiting & it’s not even that busy! Totally ridiculous as must of anticipated more people coming due to the Santa experience?! Feeling deflated and hungry. On the confirmation email from we received it stated only cold food available at the cafe and all hot food must be pre ordered so why allow people to order it on the day and hold everything else up which is what I witnessed. We had to have breakfast here as the wonderful Orchardleigh House doesn’t do food. First day was fine- older lady’s service was good. We later tried to go for dinner but there was an hour wait so I booked for the next night and she wrote it in the book (more later). Next morning young lad was on duty. I ordered sausage bap and a cranberry juice. Didn’t get the juice. Asked again. He pops off doing chores, no juice. Got the bap and guess what, there’s a dish of cranberry sauce on the plate. Words fail me. In evening turned up for dinner and the waitress says ‘we have no bookings’ tonight, so I tell her the name went in the book, still ‘definitely no bookings’ It wasn’t busy so we did get a table but that’s not the point. Not good customer care. Food was good though. I’d go somewhere else if I were you.

You enter the estate and go up and along a very long drive until you get to the restaurant car park at the far end. Lovely golf course 'manicured' grounds all around with far reaching countryside views. As it is part of a golf course and hotel /conference centre you may be expecting an 'up-market' eatery, but no! This is more like a canteen style dining room with no silver service. It's very busy, so best to book as it's a long way back that drive to find another place! The carvery is served every Sunday lunchtime and evening plus Wednesday evenings. And it's pretty good and much better than the very reasonable £9.95 suggests. Your generous portion of beef, pork and / or turkey is carved for you. Help yourself then to the generous choice of vegetables, Yorkshire puddings, sauces, gravy and roast potatoes. These are all pretty good and the meats were succulent, particularly the beef which was just right and not under-done or bloody when we visited. So 3* for decor / ambience, but 4* for food and 5* for value for money.

We were on holiday visiting longleat and wanted to eat out for my wife’s birthday. Spent ages looking online at tripadvisor for local restaurants that cater for gluten free. Found that this place had a gluten free menu online so called and booked a table. On arrival was impressed with the setting and the general look of the place. When we entered I knew I had made a mistake. More like an old fashioned school canteen. We were seated and I asked to see the gluten free menu and the waitress looked blank and went to check. Said she was new. Came back a few minutes later and said they couldn’t find the gluten free menu and the chef was also new and couldn’t guarantee the ingredients of the pre prepared products. Said we could have steak or chicken or burgers without a bun. I didn’t want to settle for this on my wife’s birthday especially as the menu leads you to believe that everything is fresh and homemade not pre prepared. So we promptly left and had a mad dash to find another eatery that was suitable. Had a lovely meal at the Fox after finally making it out there! Never again

We took a chance and without booking we called into the Restaurant at Orchardleigh Golf Course for Sunday lunch. We had to wait a while as they don't start serving until 1.00 p.m. but there was a very pleasant lounge to wait in, drinks were available from the bar and we were able to watch sport on the television. We were shown into the Restaurant and we were able to choose a table, the view from the restaurant is beautiful, overlooking the golf course. The food was hot and there was a good selection of vegetables although the choice of meats was limited, beef or pork. We had beef which was very undercooked, blood ran out on the plate, we didn't mind but I am sure it would have put some people off. Both out knives were exceptionally blunt making it difficult to cut the Yorkshire Pudding and the meat it was a shame because the meat wasn't that tough, we did comment on it when we paid the bill. Overall the meal was good at £8.99 pp. for one course, a second course was available but bumped the cost up to £12.50.

Okay, full disclosure, the new General Manager, Paul Deeprose is my son.So, as I was visiting friends in the general area, I took the opportunity to visit Orchardleigh and say hallo to 'my boy'.Now I do not know what if anything he has changed about the catering, but I do know that 'Di' (Diana) the Chef du Jour on our visit is going to be a very valuable part of his team. She is charming (and can I say this....attractive) and a Veerry good cook. The choice of meats was Silverside of Beef and Leg of Pork, both roasted to perfection. (Sorry Di, but when it comes to Beef, I prefer Rib and all it's fatty juices...lovely). Nice fresh selection of vegetables including a 'mixed veg' option. OOhh and the roast potatoes, Deliah style, fluffy and crispy! An excellent Strawberry and Vanilla cheesecake finished things of nicely. Oh and a word for the barstaff, really nice pint of Doombar (I think it is), excellently kept.If you are visiting for the first time and find yourself driving up what seems an endless drive, don't worry, you'll get there sooner or later, just enjoy the lovely Somerset countryside enroute. And if you are also a Golfer, Paul has a wealth of experience, not just Managing Golf clubs, but also as a teaching pro. and a PGA referee.

I never write on Trip Advisor but had such a disastrous meal / experience that I had to share it with others. Do not waste your hard earned money on a golf club pretending to be a restaurant. The food was dreadful, firstly it was really slow so we all started on our bread rolls, then had to ask for an extra roll with our Terrine, we were told "no" at first when we asked for another roll! The salmon was then presented on cardboard!!, the vegetables were tiny.... I could go on but have so much to say that I have not enough time to type it. The rudeness from the staff and manager was also something I have never faced before. They certainly did not attend a "charm school" of any kind. I don't think this would happen in a real restaurant, in fact I am convinced it wouldn't. Why a golf club is now doing food or pretending to is beyond me. And why my company decided to try this for a party I have no idea.Honestly save your money or try another nice restaurant (plenty in Frome), not this one!

We had our Christmas party there and the venue is rather nicely placed within the lovely grounds. First thing was that the food was literally thrown onto the tables, feeding the masses I suppose. Not great because our intention was to have a lovely evening with lots of fun.Starters were good but during the main meal my husband stated he will be sick anytime soon. I also developed such stomach pains that I could not eat the dessert, only tried a spoonful. It was not that great either: a cheesecake that was a chocolate cake from the freezer department.Anyway, we had turkey with completely overcooked vegetables and potatoes so hard you needed a drill to cut them apart. Two days after we still feel poisoned by this awful food. We came to know later that someone else had complained about their food too, salmon that was overcooked and totally dry.Shame on you chef to make no effort and spoil our evening and in fact weekend. I feel so angry that I will actually ask my colleagues tomorrow and collect more evidence. This may well be so shambolic that the hygiene institute needs to have a look

An attractive Restaurant in the heart of glorious scenery that caters for the famous Golf Club housed here and welcomes Non-Members.When I saw a local newspaper advertisement promoting the Orchardleigh Restaurant I was curious what was on offer and pleasantly surprised that they welcomed Non-Members.I was certainly not disappointed. The Carvery served on Sunday lunchtimes is amazing value.Choice of meats were; Pork, Beef and Chicken with a Vegetarian alternative. The Buffet offered a further mouth-watering range of eight choices, including Yorkshire puddings ( locally made) Roast potatoes, boiled potatoes, Spring Greens, buttered carrots, red cabbage, cauliflower cheese and a delightful leek and bean mix. All this for just £8.95 ! Little wonder I was told I would need to reserve a table when I first enquired. The value doesn't end there, for additional courses of starters (£3.95) and desserts (£3.95) with multiple choice are available for non calorie counting diners. The restaurant looks out across fine country views. I was delighted with this place and very happy to discover that drinks such as fine draught beer and wine were available at prices lower than other establishments I have visited around Frome. My only concern is perhaps that this venue can only get more popular and I will find it difficult to reserve a table.
