I took my mom for lunch on Friday with the thoughts of booking for Mothers Day, I looked on the website and they were offering a new Bistro Menu. We pulled up at 12.15pm with signs outside offering the same. We went inside and there were very few people, one table in the restaurant and a couple in the bar. No signs of any staff, when the waitress eventually turned up I asked if we could have lunch. She asked us to take a seat while she finished serving the people in the dining room. When she returned she said the chef can only offer you coffee and cake!!! I asked if we could have a sandwich or anything else and the answer was no. What a waste of a journey. I would not bother going back and I would advise no one else to either. Needless to say I did not attempt to book for mothers day. Arrow Mill here we come!

On Sunday I was part of a group of 16, and there were only 3 other tables, one of which only ordered afternoon tea. - They were unable to seat us all on one table - despite having a 2pm booking, they didn't even take our orders until gone 3, we finished about 5pm - a while after the head waiter had waived goodbye to us! - one of us had a number of allergies including gluten, yet despite being asked a number of times, they included a large yorkshire pudding on her plate, only to be challenged and come back minutes later to confirm that it was not safe for her.

We had a table booked today for 1.30. We had to chase up menus so we could order. Only 3 of the 4 starters arrived. The children's meals arrived after 2 hours. Everyone else got their food before us even those who sat down way after we did. The manager was useless and kept fobbing us off. Telling us it would be 10 minutes. At approximately 3 pm some plates of food were brought to our table only for them to be taken away again as they had made a mistake, the food was for someone else. An hour later at 4 pm, we left in total disgust. I am diabetic and had not eaten since breakfast and my niece is 28 weeks pregnant with twins! DON'T GO HERE EVER, NOT EVER.

Attended Christmas party, service poor, food average, staff under stress so stressed in fact that the assistant manager ran away crying and screaming that she couldn't cope any more with the complaints she receives from guests......i only asked why no bread rolls were served with the meal although there was a side plate and butter knife laid out she said that the plate was provided for the food that guests left !!!!!! Very unprofessional would not recommed this venue for any events.

We booked a group dinner of 21 persons for our daughters 21st birthday. When booking we stipulated that there should be no tab opened, all drinks were to be paid for. When settling the bill after all the guests had left there was a drinks bill that had been added against our express wishes. We challenged this and the blonde female member of staff who had been brusque all aftetnoon whilst serving, told us in nouncetain terms that we needed to pay. We explained the 'no tab' instruction and were told we still had to pay. I didn't wish to spoil my daughters day by causing a stir so we paid and left. My wife called the next day and was told that although we were right, there would be no refund. It's a shame, the food was great and most of the staff were good. The blond female was rude to us throughout. Other staff were all decent. The drinks error was unforgivable with no offer of recompense being made. Won't be going back. Won't be recommending anyone else goes as there are much better establishments nearby. Bar was dear too. Four pints, a glass of wine, soda and black, j2o = £33.30!!! (the pints were all around £4 so the wine must have been about £12 a glass!) If you do go, keep an eye on the bar costs!!!

The limes is a beautiful place and we have driven passed many times but paid our first visit last night. It was very quiet and there was only one other table occupied. Hubby wanted fish cakes which unfortunately they didn't have so asked for chilli nachos. However this was chilli beef and hubby doesn't eat meat and thought it meant Chili's however these did get swapped my scallops were very nice all though a better quality black pudding would have worked better. My main was the diced lamb however this was not diced at all but thick slices of what I would have said was mutton on the bone and what appeared to have mealted cheddar cheese in it so I'm sorry but didn't enjoy this at all. The waitess apologised as she could see I hardly eat my main and we did get the price of our last drinks taken off the bill. Now as this place has got really good reviews I would try it again and hope this was just a one off.

Found this hotel/restaurant via Trip Advisor map search. Although I live within a few miles I had never heard of it or passed by until found. Quite a gem. We went for Monday lunch and were the only customers, but the quality and price were excellent. We had fish and chips served in a basket, beautifully cooked and with mushy garden peas which made an interesting change. The black forest gateau was sumptuous. And coffee just right to finish off, again at a bargain price. The only thing lacking was more choices of dessert as there was nothing hot available. Sauvignon Blanc wine was basic but again at a good price of only £15.

This was a pre ordered dinner for about 50 people. It was supposed to start at 7.30. We did not start until 8pm. There were mixed feelings about the starters. My prawn and apple cocktail was refreshing but my husbands tomato and basil soup turned out to be vegetable with too much pepper in it. The choice of main course was different roast meats or salmon. The pork was lovely but the lamb was tough. The deserts were pleasant but nothing special. The main problem was the slow service. The staff were courteous and pleasant but there should have been at least 2 more! The building and restaurant was nice with a pleasant outdoor area.

Very pleasant restaurant, nice location, plenty of space, good food, large well presented portions all let down by what seemed to be a lack of serving staff. We had a two course meal, there were 4 tables occupied in the restaurant and the whole experience from start to finish was 2 hours 15 minutes. Initial drink orders were taken and arrived quickly. There was then a long wait for food. It seemed that they were taking orders and then serving one table at a time. When ours arrived parts of the order were missed, and we had to ask for them to be served. Our guest had to ask for a steak knife and English mustard ( non were offered ). The food was very tasty and well presented, portions were more than adequate. There were three desserts available, and these were declined. As I stated at the beginning the whole experience would have been so much better had there been more serving staff. If more customers had turned up without a reservation then I would hate to think what would have happened. We would return only if the problem of staffing levels is resolved.

Returned here for Mother's Day after a very pleasant visit back in September. Having raved about the place to my parents, we were very disappointed overall. To start with, they had run out of lamb - everyone's favourite. No apology. Whilst we were waiting for our starters, tables were being moved/rolled about around us - not the best when you have come out for a relaxing meal. 99% of the staff were youngsters and needed some training. To be fair, the starters were very nice. The main meals were served - again okay, although beef was a little gristly and food was warm not hot. Two small roast potatoes each - no Yorkshire pudding with the beef. Couldn't cut the meat as knives weren't carvers. No offer of extra veggies or gravy despite being a party of 7.Long wait for desserts - bread and butter pudding came with cream - should have been served with custard. When we pointed it out, the young man serving said we were correct and disappeared, returning with a "we've run out" - again no apology. With a bill of £160 I would have expected a far better experience and sorry to say we won't be returning.

Our first visit here, on Mothers Day, but others in our party had been before and raved about it. The food, when it finally arrived, was fantastic (except the lamb roast was very fatty), everything else was beautiful. The service, however, was dreadful. Being Mothers Day, we had our 2 young children with us. We had to ask 3 times for the childrens menu, and when it came there were no starters on there, or desserts.("We don't do them - but you can have ice cream") We ordered our starters and figured if we asked for the kids food to be brought with the starters, they would still be munching through theirs when the grown ups meals arrived. Had we known it would be another hour by the time the main courses arrive, (which we had to chase up with the manager/owner) we wouldn't have done this - by the time the grown ups main courses came out, the kids were bored and restless. We ordered desserts - and again, they took an age and the kids ice cream did not come out until the adults had finished. I wish they just had said no young kids to be honest. I still gave 4 stars as it really was beautiful food, but shocking, shocking service lets it down.

If you want a venue that serves Red wine either ice old or hot this is the place for you. The service on the evening was unbelievingly bad, over 40 minutes between courses. The first course came at 8.45 from a 8 o'clock start. The main course plates arrived, which were hot, then 30 minutes or so came the gravy and the after another 20 minutes wait came the meal by now the plates and gravy were cold. The vegetables came after most has finished their meal. The whole evening was hinder by a power cut which unfortunately the management handled very poorly. No lights in the toilets etc. The during the whole event you felt that they had never held a functions for that amount of people before. So the kitchen and front of house didn't seemed to now what the other was doing, or should of been doing. Even the reception was badly managed the coats where place on top of another when I ask if I needed a ticket the girl told me to remember which one was mine. On leaving, the electrician was manning the reception, who informed us, he could of fixed the problem but would have to turn off the power for 10 minutes so that's why there was still no power, he then invited me to come and retrieve my coat from the pile. Further training for the staff is a must if they wish to continue to do function of this size, headless chicken comes to mind. A course on serving wine and only having one person serving the main course was a unacceptable. Health and safety should be looked at, safety lights should be a minimum in public places.

This family occasion was booked some time ago and looked forward to with anticipation especially by 2 grandchildren. We arrived in plenty of time for the booking. There was no greeting so we bought drinks and waited to be shown to our table. This did not happen until we asked. We waited and waited until a member of our party asked a waitress and so we were given menus and told that the soup of the day was vegetable and terrapin! The first courses took some time to arrive but were fine. The roast dinners - pork and turkey - both arrived with minted gravy which was a little strange but there was plenty of meat. We had to ask for the vegetables. The children repeatedly asked us where Santa was and we were somewhat amazed when a girl, dressed in an ill fitting Santa outfit with beard, wearing high heeled shoes appeared, without ceremony, uttering 'Ho Ho Ho' and handed out parcels round the tables. We had to ask for the bill twice and still had to wait. Our complaints were met with 'All I can do is apologise and admit that it has been a shambles all week'!

Went for Sunday lunch and had a really lovely time. Two of us had the pate to start and another had the tomato soup. All three starters were home made and of an excellent quality. For mains two of us had the turkey while our guest had the lamb. Again all cooked to perfection. A good selection of vegetables and a very decent gravy accompanied. All three of us had desserts and again served efficiently and of a very good standard. The service was very good and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Made you feel very welcome and did not rush you with your meal. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very light and friendly and I look forward to go backing soon

Four of us went for Sunday lunch and it's a nice place, good value and the food was pretty good. Our average marks were as follows (out of 10):Food 71/2 Room 7Atmosphere 6Service 5The food was tasty, well cooked and very generous portions. Found it a little strange to have mint gravy with roast beef. The room is pleasant enough with good views into the garden.Unfortunately they insisted in playing music which was just a bit more than background and so a large party that were in the room had to shout over the music and made it an extremely loud lunch. The service was not to the standard that I expected and it's due to lack of training to the staff. Some of things that illustrate this:We were not offered bread rolls although should have been. The wine glasses weren't clean (Probably smeared after washing in the dishwasher) One of the napkins was damp and I mean damp as opposed to cold.It took about 25 minutes for starters to come and about the same time for the main course to arrive which considering there were only 22 people having lunch was a bit of a surprise. They seemed to have enough waiting staff working. So it's ok and average but could easily be good or even very good.

A fascinating pub that we were told was once owned by Henry VIII and given to Catherine of Aragon on their divorce. Then owned by Magdalene College Oxford for hundreds of years. It’s certainly old with flagstone floors, lots of panelling and a no longer accessible secret passageway to the church across the road. Top that with decent beers, a short freshly cooked menu and friendly service
