Booked The orangery restaurant to celebrate my birthday although the mixed reviews left me wondering if I might be disappointed. My experience was that of an elegant evening in opulent surroundings with good service. We were greeted warmly and seated at table 16 with lovely vistas across the terrace and extensive grounds. Service was efficient and non-invasive. We chose carrot soup for my hubbie and Thai fishcakes for me served wifh warmed breads and butter as our starters. Our mains choices were sirloin steak for my hubbie and pork tenderloin for me -both beautifully cooked and full of flavour. We ordered a lemon and lime, a 175ml glass of Shiraz for my hubbie and a gin and soda for me. We were quite full by then, so didn't want a pudding but ordered a coffee from Keira at the restaurant bar which was served in the lounge. We asked if there was any light accompaniment with the coffee and Keira said normally no but she would try to source something. She came up trumps with some yummy petit fours. We had a second round of coffees again served by Keira. I finished off my meal with a Bailey's. Keira had a very pleasant personality and was definitely a people person. She looked after us royally and made our after dinner experience a very pleasant one. The grounds are extensive with lovely vistas and I enjoyed watching dusk descending from the terrace area. I must mention the lavatories which are always a marker for an establishment's hygiene and general standards and they were super clean and well-maintained. There was plenty of parking with an overspill car park and the lounge area was comfortably furnished again with lovely views across the terrace. A little, low-level background music would be nice in the lounge( in the evening only though.) One slight negative was the lounge was on the chilly side and needed the fire to be lit as I needed to keep my jacket on. All-in-all, an elegant evening wifh tasty food and not expensive.Total cost: £115 and well worth it in my book.I had a lovely, memorable birthday meal.So thank you to the team, the kitchens and especially Keira from two very happy bunnies. We will return.

We went with a group of 6 to the Ratpack evening. We knew the menu was basic when we got the pre order so was not expecting much Food was fairly average although the Turkey was probably the best part of my meal. I like Vegetables Ardente but they were far too ardente and had no taste to them at all. Wine is hugely over priced but the main issue was how cold the orangery was. When you are paying over £80 a ticket you would expect to eat your dinner in warm surrounds . We got told they would turn the heating up and were given blankets but it’s not really acceptable to be freezing cold. Really the management should be looking at better arrangements or even hiring heaters in for these type of events. This is not a one off event and this would have been planned months ago . We brought friends and family down as we heard so many good things about these nights and were at Hairspray in the summer which was excellent. We did speak to the manager who could not really do anything and used the excuse that it was an exceptionally cold evening but really I don’t find that good enough as it’s been this cold in the UK before and even colder and they said there was not much they could do as it was a green house so just feel we were fobbed off. We will be making a formal complaint as it was probably the worst night ever. Would we book again, probably not . We would definitely not recommend theee type of evenings at Kilworth House.

Booked afternoon tea at Kilworth House for my Mum’s 86 birthday and to say I was underwhelmed & extremely disappointed would be an understatement! When I booked I advised it was her birthday & asked for a ‘nice table with a view’. When we arrived we were seated on a table for 2 where they’d squeezed on a 3rd seat and it was in the middle of the room & definitely no view! It became very clear that you were one of many & definitely wasn’t going to be the elegant birthday experience that I had planned for my mother. When we ordered our afternoon tea we added Prosecco which didn’t arrive so had to chase. The standard & quality of food was poor at best - very limited choice and 2 items we didn’t eat as it was awful. I have most definitely had a far better experience and more enjoyable afternoon tea at a fraction of the cost at local farm shops & definitely won’t return. So sad as the setting is beautiful but it has most definitely lost its charm & elegance and just looked very run down and in need of some polite & willing staff that were familiar of 4/5 star service at a country house hotel.

We ate here before a performance of Hairspray. We have been here a few times and last time the issue seemed to be the staff. The staff issue has been resolved and this time it was the food. The meal is very reasonable, if you are dining as part of seeing the show. However, my food was not great. I would rather pay slightly more and the food be better. My starter was the Baked Mozzarella, wrapped in Parma Ham, I didn't expect it to be cold, but it was, which meant the cheese was like plastic and the ham was like leather. It was almost impossible to cut and very difficult to eat. I only ate it, as I hadn't eaten anything since 11.00am and I knew this meal was my only chance of food. My husband had Chicken Liver Pate, which was fine apart from the Sour Dough Toast, which was just like a dry but damp biscuit. The mains and desserts were OK, but nothing special. I appreciate the building is old and it rains in, but it wasn't a great start to the evening to get wet eating dinner. When we reported it we were told we know it rains in there.

Q. Where do four sisters take mum for a special 80th birthday lunch? A. The Orangery Restaurant in Kilworth House Hotel Wow! Wow & wow! 🤩 From the moment we arrived our party of 5 were made to feel special. We were greeted at the door & taken to the drawing room for pre-lunch drinks. This stunning room with high ceilings, original features, huge windows overlooking the grounds, comfy chairs and a fireplace has the total wow factor. We had lunch in The Orangery. Another stunning room. The attention to detail was flawless. For 3 courses we paid the ridiculously low price of £34 per head. I had … 👍 Amuse Bouche (smoked cheese & leek tartlet with truffle emulsion) 👍 Butternut Squash Risotto (with toasted seeds & goats cheese) 👍 Fillet of Salmon (with roast cauliflower purée, capers & crushed baby potatoes) 👍 Almond panna cotta (with Earl Grey poached prunes) Then back to the drawing room for… 👍 Coffee & mince pies 👍 The wine was under £30 for a bottle of decent Sauvignon Blanc We all had a fantastic time & thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The venue is stunning, the staff delightful & the food delicious. FINAL WORD. Our visit was on the back of a recommendation. I’m very happy to pass it on 😃

There are lots of bad reviews on here about the food. We ate here before a performance of Half A Sixpence, and we could not fault the food, and we eat out a lot. However, the service was something else. It appears to us that the young people were excellent ,but the older people were clueless. The older lady who took our order was told my husband had a cheese allergy and we asked her to check if cheese was in the mash. She wrote down diary allergy and when we explained cheese (which is actually a hard cheese allergy) she just crossed out allergy and never came back to us. When we ordered cheesecake for dessert, which he can eat, she never questioned it! At the end of the meal we don't drink tea or coffee and we wanted to leave, so we asked for the bill. We were told we would have to wait, until everyone's bill were ready - this seemed a bit farcical, so I went to the bar and asked for a bill. The staff eventually printed off a bill for 0.00 but I explained we had drinks and they managed to find a gin and a J2O, which wasn't what we had, so they just charged for the J2O. We did raise these with a manager, so hopefully these issues will be resolved for future guests.

Took friends for Christmas Festive lunch. Expected the excellent ambiance due to previous visits and the service came up to the mark. The food served however was a bit hit and miss. Smoked salmon starter was good but the beetroot risotto with goats cheese was a bit tasteless and just pink. Two of us had the roast turkey. The turkey and roast vegetables were pretty average and reminded me of a pre prepared meal reheated with fresh gravy added. The cranberry stuffing and vegetables were not the best. My wife had fillet of bream which was fresh, tasty and excellently cooked. The Christmas pudding was a bit stodgy in a slice, The blackberry & apple pavlova and the rice pudding were average. It was such a pity because everything else is so good here and a lovely place to meet friends.

I ordered the combination with savoury & sweet. On arrival it was a few finger size sandwiches and the rest was sickly sweet pastries. One in particular almost made me gag with its strong syrupy sweetness. The sweetness was so strong that it dominated any flavours. This high tea needs to be avoided by the health conscious and certainly not value for money. With sips of water & tea, I managed to eat a small amount but came away disappointed and put it down as a never to repeat experience.

Had been given some vouchers for last Christmas, enough for 3 afternoon teas so we went yesterday. Booked for 3pm, shown to table straight away by pleasant senior member of staff. Not particularly busy in the Orangery at this time. Order taken within 10 minutes. Have not been before and the Orangery is a light sunny area, the sun was shining too! Sandwiches and cakes arrived after another 5 mins or so, nicely presented. Tea pots a bit plain and small, and they dripped badly but a minor point really. We managed to eat most of what was brought, the few cakes that were left were put in a box for us to take away. All staff were pleasant and helpful. I don't think I would pay £25 a head for it though unless it was a special occasion, but all in all a pleasant way to spend an hour or so, and it did not cost a penny!

A fabulous experience, service excellent as you might expect. The afternoon tea looked fabulous on the tiered plates, very pretty. It’s a shame they only use plain white crockery it could look so much better. The tea cups were the style that any ordinary cafe might use and our teapot spout had a big chip in it. The sandwich fillings were a little lack lustre that aside the cakes were very good, we especially liked the macaroons and battenbugh cake. This orangery restaurant and hotel at Kilworth house clearly have issues with inadequate staffing. We had a bad experience on a recent stay at the hotel where we waited an hour to be served breakfast. The manager responded to my review saying she would look into the reasons. It was obvious that time and this most recent Walk Right Back night that there just aren’t enough staff on duty. There were 16 tables each with 8 people at least, some more and only 6 staff bringing out food. My pork was tough, cold and no sign of the Stilton sauce. The concert was great although 2 folk on our table were sat behind the speakers and stage. The blowers at the side were freezing everyone despite pleas to turn them down/off. We resorted to stuffing our serviettes in the holes! Coffee at the end was ridiculous. Just 2 waiters going round. Ours finally arrived 10 minutes before the ‘carriage’ time and no chocolates until we asked. Do go to the music events but avoid eating and staying here like the plague

No problem with the meals but our last visit in July was ridiculously hot inside the restaurant. So much so that we moved outside for our desserts and coffee as we couldn't stand it any longer. To give you an idea. the butter was a melted puddle in the dish. There were a couple of portable fans in the restaurant but these were totally ineffective. Visited yesterday, temperature 28degrees. The orangery whilst attractive is unbearable in the summer heat. The building is clearly glass roofed and many windows. We definitely felt like we were in a greenhouse. Could not sit to eat the meal, barely knew what I was eating, just had to get out of the restaurant. We were not allowed to move outside with our food but as there were lots of complaints about the heat we were allowed in the end to eat our puddings in the lounge. I can appreciate the owners are anxious to preserve the look of the building but some kind of blinds are needed. I have been there when the weather was warm but not 28 degrees & even this was slightly uncomfortable . My advice woud be to avoid sunny days there , I can't imagine what a summer wedding would be like there on a really hot day.

This massive conservatory restaurant provides decent quality food in lovely surroundings, with enthusiastic, friendly and efficient service. There are some quirky touches, like serving Tiramisu in what looks exactly like a plant pot. The food is more wholesome than it is gourmet, but you wouldn't expect it at the very reasonable prices. The Kilworth Hotel, of which the Orangery is part, is best known for the theatre in its grounds, so that it can be quite difficult to book a table if there's a popular show on at the theatre. The hotel itself is quite grand inside and has the most beautiful and extensive grounds, in fact the whole hotel/restaurant/theatre combined offering is attractive. There's plenty of parking. We will be eating here again, I'm sure.

Fantastic entertainment in the Orangery Restaurant. And on the entertainment alone I would give it 5 stars, but I found the pre-dinner drinks rather corralling and there were so many people in the room before we moved into dinner that I felt rather trapped. The meal was nice, if a little slow to serve but I guess that was timed around the entertainment starting and the evening flowed well. We were lucky to be sat on a table of pleasant people. It was just a great evening really and I would recommend it. The singers were excellent, meal good and the positives offset the pre-dinner drink chaos well enough for me to say I would go again.

My wife and I visited the orangery of this lovely hotel for afternoon tea and what a delightful experience it was. A beautiful setting, pristine white table cloths, excellent service and delicious food. So many cakes in fact we needed to box some and bring them home with us. So why the "BUT" in my review title.? With everything so perfect why does the hotel rely on British Rail type white solid plates, cups and saucers. Surely it would cost very little for these to be china and add the final touch to what is otherwise a lovely experience. Overall though......"An absolute delight"

An interesting scenario having read several of the reviews post dinner. I note with interest that the Hotel only responds on Tripadvisor to anyone who has given a good review. No response to the customers that have not had such a great experience. We have visited several times for dinner at this lovely location and in the past it has been extremely good. However, I think for the type of establishment and the price the public are paying that they seriously need to up their game. I booked several weeks in advance for my Son's birthday and was advised that they were fully booked and could only accommodate us at 8.30pm. We arrived at 7.45pm and the Restaurant was relatively empty. We opted for pre-dinner drinks in the lounge. The service was slow and unattentive and we were eventually seated for Dinner at 10.00pm (albeit the place was empty). 4 of the Starters arrived and we all waited until the 5th arrived so that we could eat together - after two reminders the final starter arrived 15 minutes later, so the orignal starters were now cold. The Head Waiter Nemet was very attentive, but clearly trying to deal with everything himself - surrounded by young staff with an indifferent attitude and considerably lacking in training. The main meal of Chateaubriand was nothing to write home about and relatively blue - not as requested. The dessert however was pleasant and after such we retired to the lounge for after dinner drinks. 30 minutes to make coffee ? Really ? Eventually we had to cancel the drinks as our Taxi had already been waiting 15 minutes. Overall a disappointment

Visited on a Sunday lunchtime for a family birthday celebration, so only the Sunday menu to choose from, which is predominantly roast dinners other than one vegetarian option and a sea bass option. The smoked salmon and ham croquette starters were very good, but some of the roast beef was fatty and the yorkshire puddings were dry. The sea bass was really good and the vegetables were okay, nothing special. Desserts were also variable, the apple crumble and chocolate ganache were very good but others not so. The house sauvignon blanc wasn't very nice either. Having said that, the setting was beautiful, we had pre drinks in the lounge, lunch in the Orangery and coffee outside overlooking the gardens and countryside. I get the impression the food quality might have been better if we weren't restricted to Sunday lunch!

The Orangery restaurant is situated in a grand victorian orangery attached to Kilworth House Hotel. The surroundings are unique, the menu and food are memorable and, thanks to their very well drilled and seemingly happy staff, served with smiling efficiency.

The orangery is a beautiful setting. You usually wait to be seated. The staff are all dressed in a very smart uniform and are very friendly and polite. The food my husband and I had was very tasty. We have had afternoon tea here as well as dinner and that was good too with a choice of sweet or savoury teas. Definitely worth a visit.

Althoiugh they had set our table for less than we asked, the problem was quickly resolved and our large birthday party of 12 enjoyed a pleasant, relaxing lunch in a really impressive environment (despite the odd raindrop!) Starters were all good and beautifully presented, including my chap's previously ordered melon - not on the menu. My pea and mint risotto was excellent, verytasty and not too much. Main courses fine, except the curry was not very substantial, ie not enough for a hungry male! The bream was delicious. Would love to go again.

We had not visited Kilworth House for some time, so decided to have lunch there recently. We were surprised to see the Orangery Restaurant totally empty at 1.0pm on a Friday, but after a while another party of 3 appeared. Five covers in such a prestigious venue seemed strange to us.The building, grounds and location are all simply stunning – and the large Orangery is a lovely light and impressive area for dining.. and must be superb for weddings etc. The staff we found to be most efficient and professional throughout, a credit to the hotel.I am afraid this is where the good news ends, for us anyway, as the food served was sadly disappointing – and very poor actually. My wife had the Salade Nicoise starter, normally a favourite of hers – but the tuna was barely cooked at all. We know that tuna should be seared and served pink inside, fine – but this was virtually raw, and tasted most unpleasant. The only reason she did not complain and return it was that she is diabetic, and was at the point of needing to eat something quite quickly.. so, against her better judgement, she ate as much as she could. My own starter was the chicken brulee, which in fairness was quite OK.Unfortunately my wife’s bad experience continued with the belly pork dish. We normally expect belly pork to be slowly cooked for a lengthy period until very tender, during this process the meat would have taken on the flavours of the spices. Clearly this pork had not been cooked in this way – and was quite tough, the spice flavouring being only a coating on the outside. The pork fat had not rendered down, and was unpalatable. Another disappointment. My own Veal Schnitzel was uninspiring, and not piping hot at all – it clearly was not straight from the pan. Sorry..not an enjoyable experience. Not wishing to labour the point, the remainder of the meal was in a similar vein, and we left feeling very dissatisfied.Perhaps I should mention that I have City & Guilds of London qualifications in catering, and have eaten in a variety of establishments in the UK and overseas – and I always leave accurate and fair reviews – but this was one of our least pleasant experiences.

We dined at the Orangery for a pre theatre meal. It was a small menu but all sounded so good it was still difficult to choose. The starter of risotto was very tasty and fresh. The chicken main course was delicious. Very tender and beautifully cooked. My husband had the vegetable curry and said it was delicious. The lemon tart for pudding was really lovely. Drinks were a bit pricey but bearing in mind your'e paying hotel prices it was worth it. The staff worked hard, were very pleasant and helpful and attentive. All in all a lovely evening.

We are regulars at the theatre, but this was a first time for a pre-show dinner in The Orangery at it was a treat. This was a well, oiled machine working like clockwork. It needed to be, to get what appeared to be over 100 diners in, fed three courses with coffee and then out in just over an hour. They must have been breaking some sweat in the kitchen and the small army of front of house staff could have done with roller skates. To deliver in such quantity, the menu choices were not going to be too Mastercheffy, but the table d'hôte card had a good choice and it turned into sound food, well done.I enjoyed a well seasoned leek and potato soup with a fresh, crisp roll. This was followed by pork fillet, fondant potato and green veg, all of which were a touch firmer than expected, the pork in a marginally overdone (but better that side) way, the potato in a marginally underdone way and the green veg in a superbly al dente so the flavour hits you in the chops way. The sweet note came with a cherry pie and vanilla custard, which looked and tasted home-made, in a very good way.The Orangery is a splendid room, a light, airy, high ceilinged and comfortable conservatory. A great place to dine, and to set you up for the open air theatre to come.

A group of us went for afternoon tea in the Orangery. The ambiance was great, service very attentive, and overall the experience was very good BUT it could have been much better:-Why serve slices of a large pork pie with egg when located so close to Melton Mowbray? Why no cheeses when you have such famous Leicester local varieties? No butter served for the scones and only one small scoop of cream between five of us.Tea pots spilled tea from the spouts all over the table cloth. Some of the tea strainers did not allow tea to pass through quickly enough causing spillages.Mimi burgers burned on the outside, rare in the middleetc etc

Visited Kilworth House for Sunday lunch with two fellow foodie friends. WE arrived early so settled into the stunning lounge/drawing room for pre drinks. Service was polite and efficient, our order was taken in the lounge by the by the more than personable Maitre'D. After drinks we were escorted in the magnificent Orangery, where every table was bedecked in white linen, fine glass and silverware, with a stunning view of the gardens and grounds outside.Lunch was more than adequate, 4 or 5 chocies for Starters, usual Sunday fayre with three roasts, fish and veggie option. Similar choices for the the desserts.Presentation was excellent throughout, food tasty, and an abundance of vegetables t'boot. All in all a very nice lunch, we'll be coming back for sure !

First visit for my sister but not for me. Staff, service and surroundings was perfect. Colleen one of our waitresses was very welcoming and accommodating,. Infant all the staff were superb. We had 1 savoury and 1 sweet menu. These were presented beautifully and had been updated since my last visit. I loved the scotch eggs but no longer on the menu. We split everything 50/50 as sisters should share so had a taste of everything. We were not disappointed with any bite we took. It was the windiest day of the year but the ambiance inside The Orangery was as relaxing as ever with gentle background music. Pink champers tastes divine too. A couple of hours of heavenly peace away from our hectic lives, we both are looking forward to our next visit.

Six of us had a "just what we wanted" light lunch at this small, characterful cafe, tucked into one of Market Harborough's historic "yards". Two had the excellent tomato and basil soup, served with a ciabatta roll; two had a delicious ciabatta roll (one gluten free) with cream cheese, figs with a touch of honey and pistachio nuts; one had a bacon-filled ciabatta roll and one had a fruit scone. We all enjoyed our lunch, and the two staff were very helpful. We thought we had made a very good choice out of the numerous options in the town and would definitely go again.

Called in today for our first visit. Received a warm welcome from staff members and were able to be seated as although it was busy lots of people had chosen to sit outdoors. Chose a carvery and we weren't disappointed, choice of 3 meats all cooked beautifully, nice choice of fresh vegetables. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and you weren't bombarded by staff as soon as you started eating asking if it was alright. We were approached but had at least had a chance to have eaten some of the meal! Will definitely be returning here again.

Many of my friends have raved about this restaurant and we had never been. So after realising it was closing, we just had to book. It was not what we expected - bright lights and bare tables. Not our thing. The arrival greeting was ok but not special and no explanation or interest in us as 1st timers. The food was good and very tasty but it was expected at the price. The wine choice was a different matter. We order one red and one white, not cheap. The white wine arrived by a very young waiter who poured the wine with no option to taste and it was NOT cold. Unbelievable! When asked why it was not cold he said there was ice in the ice bucket. Not a good start to the meal, The waitress leaned over me every time to serve my friend and they didn’t offer new cutlery for each course. Maybe they have lost interest now it’s closing, very sad as we had heard such excellent reviews.
