The food is very good, but the service is extremely slow, with unhelpful and surly staff. If you are within half an hour of the breakfast menu ending, they won’t serve you. If you are 10 mins too early for the lunch menu to start, they won’t serve you. If you are visiting within half an hour of closing time, they won’t serve you. Seeing a pattern here?I go with my 2 year old granddaughter, and thankfully she is patient, as we have waited over 20 mins for a fish finger sandwich! BUT, it is worth waiting for, as tasty and freshly cooked!

Poor service! Stood in the queue for 10 minutes only one person serving but plenty of staff behind. Finally got to the front of the queue and the kids wanted an ice cream I moved down to show them the flavours I turned around to order and the woman behind the till had completely skipped me. I waited my turn again for her then to skip me again and serve the person behind me. she then made a snide remark to the person behind the till saying the queue was all mucked up and it should be the other side. Clearly commenting on my position. At this point I said I was on the queue but she had skipped me twice. She just looked at me and carried on serving the person behind me. Finally she let me pay for the two ice creams but very rude staff! Will not be returning. Only wish the ice cream van was there but unfortunately he hadn’t arrived yet.

Stopped for a cup of tea this morning. Feeling a bit peckish but not wanting anything substantial. I opted for the home made soup which was Tomato and Basil with whole meal bread and butter. Really pleasantly surprised as the soup was really thick and chunky, home made not from a can or pre prepared. Delicious and thoroughly good value for £2:50. The rest of the menu looks reasonably priced as well. Will be back again.

We were too late for lunch but were happy to book a coffee and cake, until the lady taking my order decided to just walk off to speak with a member of staff. I was halfway through saying my order and they walked off without an explanation, no be right back, or apology. The two severs who saw it happen looked mortified until one of them assured me they would take over. The offending member of staff came back a moment later and still offered no apology or acknowledgment. Next time we won’t be bothering with the cafe - there’s a McDonald’s down the round.

Must have waited 15 minutes to give my order. Only one family jn front of me with a huge shipping order that the owner then went through again with them to check. About 4 staff just hanging around doing nothing. Why couldn't one of them.have taken my order for two coffees? Totally disorganised and overpriced. Won't be rushing back.

The staff are so so rude! I paid for my food and the woman at the till was so inpatient with me inputting my pin for my card, such a rude manner. We had ordered food, which with a misunderstanding the order came and it was incorrect. There was a lad who served us our food and we explained it’s not what we had ordered and he explained he wasn’t sure what to do so went back to the kitchen. The woman who served us at the till came over to us shouting, the whole cafe went quiet and we’re watching, so embarrassing!! I told the woman it’s fine we will keep the food, however when we went to eat the hot dogs, they were cold, and my friend then found a blonde hair in her hotdog (none of the staff were wearing hair nets, all of them had long hair and were messing with it) in the end we asked to speak to the manager, who gave us a refund for the 2 hotdogs, and explained the children could have an ice cream, when my son opened his ice lolly, it was spilt it half so when asked if this can be changed, she firstly said she’ll put it in a tub for him (who wants to eat an ice lolly out of a tub?!) so rude with the situation. The woman did replace the ice lolly but she didn’t seem very happy or willing. As we were leaving, another member of staff asked my friend to put the table back to how it was (we moved it slightly as the sun was coming through the window into the children’s eyes) me and my friend are both very far gone in pregnancy and this is something we did not need! I will definitely not be returning, and I think this cafe needs A LOT of improvements! My friend had been here 2 days prior to this, and she had warned me already about the very rude lady at the till! So so so so disappointing to say the least!!

Macs Club are a kids breakfast, afterschool and holiday club. The holiday club went to Markeaton park today for the Easter trail. It was a little cold so we stopped for a warm at the orangery. Children had £2.50 for ice cream. Some children wanted ice cream in a cone which was £2.70. Despite this the staff allowed all children wanting ice cream to have it despite the price difference. This was a genuine act of kindness which you do rarely see these days. The children were so happy. The staff were pleasant and very patient with the children allowing them lot of time to make there decisions and the time to also sit and eat there delicious ice cream. We will be back again, all 50 of us. Thank you so much for your kindness in a cost of living crisis.

Visited the cafe during our walk around the park, the coffee tasted okay, there was no clear pricing on any of the products in front of me or on the board above my head, we had 2 cappuccino which came to £6.40 , I felt that it was overpriced by a good.40p per cup, the cakes looked amazing and very tempting but as I didn’t have any idea how much a slice was I didn’t order because I was worried that I may not have enough money with me which was £8 , judging by the coffee prices I clearly wouldn’t have , the staff were reasonable and friendly although there seemed about 5 behind the counter, I will probably visit here again maybe make sure I have at least a tenner maybe even order a slice of cake

Staff rude, overpriced drinks no clear price sign misleading. Rude about my Cornish accent (apparently, I'm just backward) so upset I left the park. I simply suggest when ordering the drink, they should confirm the price with the customer. Instead of making the drink first as I only just had enough. I had checked the sign, but all the other drinks were £3.20 so I assumed the Moca would be too as I could not see it on the list. I had only brought a small amount of change with me as it's a park not a shopping trip. I have worked in a lot of customer service roles, and this is not what I would call customer service

Visited the cafe for a hot chocolate. It cost £3 and tasted like one from a vending machine in a municipal building. I was disappointed, from an environmental point of view, that it came in a disposable cup (I was sitting in the cafe) as did all the hot drinks. I also had a toasted teacake that was £2.40 and seemed stale. The table we sat at was sticky and didn't make you want to linger. In its favour, the staff were pleasant and I didn't have to queue.

The lady serving us was bad mannered and it seemed a huge effort for her to even take our order. She then got our order wrong and seemed to think that this was our fault, although she corrected it, she was again bad mannered and rude about this. We won’t be visiting this cafe again and will certainly advise others not to.

Good ambience and location but let down by poor food today. 2 out of 3 of us could not order our first choice meal as basic food -ie cheese and coleslaw were off the menu at 1.00pm! So the 2 of us ordered the “daily special - Falafel Wrap - with salad “ instead. What arrived were 2 large wraps each with 3 tiny falafels in each padded out with a large amount of salad ( a bit limp) in each and then a lot of extra greenery in the side. I love salad but am not a rabbit! There was a minute layer of dressing only in each wrap so all pretty tasteless. Not at all special and definitely poor value for money.Would have also liked better coffee - not cappuccino from a push button machine and less sugary cold drinks. Some nice sparkling elderflower for instance. Also very limited ice cream flavours so we didn’t bother. Cakes looked quite nice but we didn’t try these as we favoured ice cream instead. Sadly the flavours were limited so we didn’t bother. Staff were friendly and apologetic blaming problems on the failed delivery. This may have been the case but perhaps a few things could be improved here.Such a shame as this cafe is missing a trick in such a nice setting,

Waking up on a Monday morning for your 9am start, after an enjoyable weekend, is enough to create a sad and depressive start to the week. However, my mood made a full u-turn after being informed of a trip to the Orangery in Markeaton Park for a quick morning break. Then and there I had already decided, I would be having a full English breakfast, which certainly did not disappoint. The walk through the park accompanied by the chilling winds, was easily worth it with the café in sight and the promise of a big plate of warm food. The price of the breakfast dampened my mood a little, however the server in the café managed to put a smile back on my face with some banter and a friendly attitude. The interiors of the Orangery were very authentic and rustic, with a light pastel colour palette. The whole atmosphere and bright sun gleaming through the large windows has the ability to take you back to your childhood and reminisce of a place you’d visit on a beautiful summer’s day for some ice cream and cool air. When the breakfast arrived, the price was undoubtedly justifiable. My plate was loaded with the vegetarian breakfast consisting of 2 Quorn sausages, 2 eggs, 2 slices of bread, a large hash brown and large quantities of both mushrooms and baked beans. The only aspect of the breakfast that led to disappointment was my inability to finish it all. After the breakfast, my classmates and I took a wander to the park which was filled with equipment even grown adults would enjoy. It’s easy to envision the park and high ropes area crammed full with people having a good time, and the numerous surrounding fields a sea of picnic blankets and families relaxing in the hot summer’s sun. If you’re looking for a place for a quick sit down whether it be warm or chilly weather, the Orangery cafe will not disappoint, whether you fancy a warming drink or cooling tub of delicious ice cream.

Non existent customer service. They also don’t have anything you want to order - we tried to order a chocolate sundae, cookie dough, milkshake, chocolate fudge cake and was told they were all not available. This was after paying. The entire party had to then choose alternatives they weren’t entirely keen on because we had already paid. I find it hard to believe they didn’t know before. We also witnessed a staff member being quite unkind to another employee who was taking orders, and seating walk ins, telling him off and telling him to wash plates instead of seating walk ins. When our food did arrive, only 2 out of the 3 items came. We waited 25 mins for a Sundae to arrive, when it didn’t we told the staff who said it was coming. It then took 10mins for this to arrive. It really shouldn’t take 35 mins to put some ice cream in a bowl. Youre better off going to Heavenlys down the road. Don’t waste your time here.
