O'Neill's in Portsmouth

My friend and I ate there pre theatre today. The service was brilliant. The staff member who served us was very friendly. The food was very filling and tasty. They also serve good wines . So next time I go to the kings theatre I shall visit again.

Only went for drinks, so I can't comment on food. Took a while to get a drink, but staff were friendly, quite noisy, but we had a decent time, we didn't have to queue for too long.

Mixed grill was amazing. I think it's one of the best cooked mixed grills I've ever had! Large bar, seating area with outdoor seating room. I don't as pleasantly surprised!

I'd like to rate it more. But the toilets were just the worst I've seen in a long time especially when front of house was nothing like it. No door on one cubicle and no locking mech on the other or toilet roll in either. Good job it was a flying visit

Heard the bartender call whom I assume was his manager a dickhead when he asked him to clear the garden, and thought to myself "what poor attitude, and disruption for superiors". I shall not be returning anytime soon.

Firstly, the bar staff and our server were most polite and friendly. However, I was disappointed with the temperature of my Steak, and the gammon meals tonight. I was advised there was a 45 minute wait before my steak would be ready, and had imagined it would have been freshly cooked, my wife had the gammon, my daughter had a vegetarian meal, and son-in-law had a beef burger and chips, which, by contrast, were ok. In fact the meals arrived on time, but instead of being hot was very cold??? No one ask if we were enjoying the food, and because we had to be elsewhere, I didn’t get a chance to inform the staff about our disappointment! It’s the first time I’ve been there, and I am unlikely to go again. I think the food is reasonably priced, but if you want eat cold food, it’s ideal!

Lovely pub, staff are great, however the manager (Matthew) unfortunately let's the experience down.. I will be complaining to their head office about him. Totally not suited to this public house..

The food came quickly and was decent. Staff were very helpful and we were served quickly

popped in for a quick drink and was told it was happy hour £3.75 for a pint of madri between 5-8pm Monday to Friday can’t go wrong! Lots of other drinks also included in the deal Sonny behind the bar was a real good laugh. We only originally came in for one drink and we ended up staying for several drinks and getting the 2 for 1 pizzas whilst watching the football. 100% will be making this a regular visit for good deals and great vibes !

It was an impromptu booking and the manager, Zara, couldn’t have been more helpful. The service was quick, food was great and no complaints about the atmosphere. A great example of a pub done right. Well done and thank you!

Sonny gave us shots best place ever

Absolutely awful bar service when ordering food. The girl behind the bar was completely lost, in a world of her own, got the order wrong twice. When the mixed grill came out after a 45 minute wait, minus an egg, grilled tomato and mushroom, the mushy peas were dry and hard, the chips were cold and hard, and you could see it was just thrown on the plate. Even a tramp would turn his nose up at it, horrendous 😫 Good service from the guy when I complained though, he gave me my money back and offered to give us a free drink.

Sonny is the best bartender in O'Neill's Southsea👍😊😉HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. He advised me drinks. Perfect atmosphere. If you have a minute, take a look at O'Neill's. The stake was amazing. Dessert was tempting😝😜😛👍

Nice looking place but some of the beers we had were not the best. Just didn't taste right like it was off. Service wasn't the best either. Better places to go

Visited for the first time on a birthday night out, quick service and received a free shot!

Appalling customer service ! Ordered a meal and drink before going to the theatre. Took 45 mins and still never arrived, despite being told it would be coming. Ran out of time, so we did not have anything to eat. They gave us a refund for the food but not the drink. Despite my friend questioning it. Would not go back again.

The manager Zara was extremely welcoming and made us feel at home. A friendly atmosphere, accompanied by the attentive staff made us feel welcomed. Food and drinks delicious I highly recommend dining here for good food and company.

Came in for a celebration dinner with my boyfriend and the food was delicious! Cooked to perfection. We were served by Zara who was amazing and very friendly. Always nice to come somewhere and be greeted with a nice warm welcome 🙂 Would definitely recommend a nice little dinner date here.

O'Neill's Southsea is a gem! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming. The staff are friendly, attentive, and go above and beyond to ensure you have a great time. The drinks selection is top-notch, with something for everyone, and the live entertainment creates the perfect vibe.

Went there with a few friends to watch the rugby, we ending up staying for the band, the band was pretty good, all in all a top night out

What a shame that O'Neill's do not honour the offers that they display so prominently by their front door. We went yesterday and there was a large board offering a special deal of meal and drink for £8.99 between noon and 6pm on weekdays. As it was 5:36pm on a Friday we thought this would be ok but were told the offer was not available after 5pm. Obviously, I cannot comment on the food because we left but I have to say that the staff were very pleasant and apologetic.

Had a very tasty meal at a reasonable price. Good selection of beers. Had football on the TVs but we felt the volume was far too high especially as the majority of people in bar were not watching it.

Desert arrived before main, manager seemed to be annoyed it was politely sent back? “No Blacks, No dogs, no Irish” policy seems to have stuck around. Experienced what can only be described discriminatory treatment towards customers who happened to be black. General manager Matthew Webster just smugly smirked when challenged on his abhorrent behaviour.

Booked an early evening meal prior to theatre trip. Food was excellent and great value. Super bar staff - efficient and friendly. I do not live in the area but it will be my first choice of venue when booking a pre theatre meal again. Thank you.

Always a good place to watch the football or any sport. Drinks on the expensive side but it's southsea at the end of the day. Always clean.

Used the app and it was a bit slow on the drinks as only 1 person was on the bar and the non app customers were a priority so we had nearly finished our food before they came

Family Meal.... The venue was quiet and relaxing. I was greeted with a smile and friendly helpful service. The table was clean The menu offers a good choice,though would like to see more vegan options. The food was served hot and well displayed and tasted lovely. Excellent service throughout our time there. Will definitely be returning and would recommend this venue.

Stopped to watch the F1 before heading to Fratton Park - quick service - friendly manager - good value for money.

The pub itself is reasonably nice good location and nice size garden for Albert road staff seemed welcoming and the food was nice but a very limited menu

As a chef for Mitchell and butlers I am disappointed with this Albert road establishment..staff are reluctant to come out of their confer zone and greet customers especially as a tourist touring for eateries this is one pub which is run as a club and has forgotten about the Irish theme as an eatery..gold star for disappointment ☹️☹️☹️

Avoid food atm just wanted a snack 5 x chips and onion rings has taken almost an hour still haven't got half our order. Leaving now after 1hr 15mins had to get a refund.

Had a lovely evening watching ladies football with two friends. Guinness and steak pie, cheese chicken pie and veggie sausage and mash. All very tasty. Thank you. Will go again. Very helpful staff Grill was not working so option's restricted.

A rough and ready place. Food good plenty of it. Staff friendly

What a dump. 1/3rd full yet every vacant/available table was covered in beer glasses/bottles and plates of food. Some 1/2 eaten. Disinterested staff moped around not giving a crap. 3 on duty. 1 guy just looking at his phone walking up and down behind the bar ignoring the 6 punters waiting. 2 females "serving"...a joke. Serve 1 order then walk back into the kitchen walkway and spend a minute or two on her phone then bimble back with a "who's next then". After waiting 15 minutes....bear in mind the pub was only 1/3rd full....we walked out across the road to The Porter. Smiling welcome, got a beer, sat down to a clean table and ordered food from a server who came to the table!

Not a good start when they could not find our booking, although there was availability so we were soon seated. Not the fault of the staff (who were all very nice and helpful) but we were sat next to 2 groups of peope who were conversing as if they were in a helicopter. We ordered sausage and mash and scampi and chips which both came with peas. The peas were horrible, not sure how you can ruin frozen peas but they looked and tasted unappetizing, to say the least. As I was still hungry I ordered salted caramel profiteroles. We waited quite a long time for them to arrive and when they did, there were not quite frozen but were very hard and very cold. We were going to the local theatre so did not have time to take this up with anyone (we had mentioned the peas to a very apologetic server). No one came near us to ask if everything was ok the whole time we were there. So in short the environment was not pleasant due to people shouting conversations and the food was poor. We will not be eating here again.

Super casual dress code, decent selection of beers and ciders, large outdoor smoking area with a good selection of tables inside.

Brilliant band, Rhythm City, really got everyone dancing and singing. Great drinks service. Easy to book a table.

Friendly service, 2 main meals for less than £11 Mond to Friday 12 to 4pm. No real ale sadly. Attentive staff. Worth a visit for food if nothing else.
