Excellent, friendly service. We had 3 delicious cakes: coffee cake, honeycomb & chocolate cake, and Caramel cake. We had 4 drinks, 2x cappuccinos, oat milk tea and hot chocolate. Reasonably priced. There's outside seating in the picturesque, cobbled square, bit it was a little cold so we sat in the tea room.

Absolutely shocking service and given what else is in the area, we will certainly avoid using again. The actual coffee and cakes are nice but the service was haphazard and not interested at all. When asked why whilst being seated inside, we had cardboard cups to go, we were advised in a sneering fashion, that as they were dog friendly they wanted to avoid breakages……..Seriously as a dog owner that has never been an issue in 14 years!

DREADFUL BEHAVIOUR The behaviour displayed by those who I’m guessing are owners was diabolical this afternoon after a poor young girl accidentally spilled her drink. The mess was well cleaned up by the extremely apologetic parent of the girl but the member of staff performed a right carry on, spending the next few minutes whinging and moaning, really upsetting the young family. They continued slagging them off for several more minutes while stood with other staff members, but everyone could hear the muppet. I would suggest that owning a drinks shop, you would be well advised to go with some harder, easy to clean flooring if you don’t want to experience these little accidents as they happen I’m afraid and there was no need whatsoever to carry on as you did this afternoon. I hope the two young girls and parents with her weren’t too upset by the whole experience. AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU WANT A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE.

How very good it is to be treated well and with such enthusiasm by the manager and staff here. Despite the rain, and therefore no outdoor seating we enjoyed our mid morning coffee and cakes. Good coffee and teas, excellent cakes. Interesting décor, - quite homely and a good change from the big boys and multi nationals.

I visited 1 Castle Hill with a friend last Thursday. We wanted a light lunch and were given option of panini or pizza twist. As it was pouring with rain and did not want to go in and out of other venues, we both reluctantly opted for a tuna and cheese panini and a hot drink. The hot drinks came in takeaway cardboard cups. The paninis had been microwaved and the cheese had totally disintegrated! They were scalding hot, tough and the tuna was like mush. Served in cardboard trays with wooden cutlery. The panini was disgusting! Should have been heated in a proper oven or a toaster. I am all for reducing waste etc. but the wooden cutlery and cardboard trays would be thrown away (not recycled as contaminated). We were sat inside - simple crockery could have been used and washed up to use again. They were not busy. I am local, not a tourist, and will not be going there again.

Called into this cafe for teas and a slice of cake today. No vacant seats outside, waited for tea to arrive. Cakes described and pictured were certainly not there today, a choice of about four tart like confections on display. I opted for a cherry coconut tart. This did not seem home made either. Cost 6.95. Tea arrived, in cardboard cups with lids, scaldingly hot, watery and milky without the remotest taste of tea. They need to change teabags if they wish customers to re visit. I won’t be though.

Trying to do my bit to support local businesses in my daily walk - £3.50 for a takeaway hot chocolate was very steep! Server wasn't wearing a mask and he was chatting away in the small space to what I can only guess was a friend 'hanging out' inside for a bit of a social. Made me feel vulnerable and in retrospect, I wish I had the courage to challenge this. Won't be returning.

Stopped here after visiting the castle and before heading into the cathedral. We had three drinks, one ice lolly and a cake and it cost almost £15. Only after being served did I realise that I had seen very, very similar(you could say identical) products elsewhere. Yes half of the products in the counter display looked identical to those in Lidl's bakery . Vegetable pizza, pesto pizza, sweet chilli pizza, cinnamon bun, cinnamon swirl!! We got charged £5.50 for two pastries that would have cost 50p each in Lidl for the exact same thing. I realise that this place could just be buying from the same supplier but if Lidl can sell them for 50p each why is this place charging 5 times that!!!?????

The area of the cafe is nice, it's clean and staff were pleasant, but their skills were appalling. I asked for a sausage roll, which was £2.50 so would expect higher quality. I was presented with a reheated sausage roll, which had soggy pastry. It was clearly reheated in a microwave, not an oven, which everyone knows this is not the correct way to reheat a sausage roll. Disgusting.

My son and I stopped for a coffee and cake. Slightly confusing as you go in to order but there aren't any menus (I did ask) or boards up with drinks. The only drink choice on a board were milk shakes. I also couldn't see any price for anything, except the milkshake. We had a lemon tart, chocolate tart, tea and a milkshake which was £13.75. My son said the milkshake was vastly overpriced for what was just milk with caramel sauce in and squirty cream. The tarts were ok, nothing spectacular. We stopped here because you could sit outside but I think there are far better tea rooms on Steep Hill.

We stopped here as it was the first place we came across with some outdoor seating and we had our push chair - location is great. I ordered a little raspberry tart, little chocolate tart, rocky road, sausage roll, cheese straw and 3 coffees - £25.60 - a little steep I thought. A really limited choice - definitely not a deli or a patisserie- more a cafe - I was expecting something with loads of choice, fresh fruit and pastries and creams and beautiful sandwiches, artisan breads etc. The chap serving was friendly. Drinks were fine, chocolate tart was average - needed to be much richer - sausage roll had the pale grey filling and was salty - yuk, cheese straw really tasty though. BUT - the rocky road had peanuts in, which is definitely not a standard ingredient- and I ate 3 bites - I’m allergic to peanuts! My husband then asked the staff about it as it wasn’t described as ‘nutty rocky road’. They tried to say that the standard ‘our products may contain every allergen...’ covered it - it doesn’t - I always purposely avoid products I think will have nuts in. If it is a main ingredient it should be described as that. So be aware. They offered to refund me - I said it was fine, then had to promptly find the closest pharmacy and popped 6 cetirizine! Itchy mouth disappeared but my eyes, particularly the left one, swelled up for a good 3-6 hours. So maybe go for coffee with a view & avoid the food.

I cannot remember being more disappointed with a coffee and snack than our experience here in May 2019. The staff were numerous (or at least lots of them behind the counter jabbering on, but not really focused on customers. They were discussing their own issues noisily). We found it difficult to hear what the half concentrating assistant was saying, and presumably she, us too, because we got the wrong order of flatbread (there were only 2 options). How the flatbread became so extra-ordinarily hard, we will never know, but it might have been due to the long wait for it to arrive. It was truly teeth-threatening. We couldn't eat it or even break it. The coffee was OK actually, and we were able to sit down after the long walk there, though it was very cold inside. Nonetheless this bad experience cost us nearly tenner. We'd only have paid for coffee, if we hadn't had to pay on ordering. The snack was inedible and the surroundings gloomy, cold and depressing inside. The waitress (elderly) seemed to be a bit stressed and slopped the coffee into the saucers as she bashed it down (it actually clanged as it hit the table) and rushed off without saying anything to us. There was in fact very little choice of food and it wasn't a deli or patisserie at all: anything but! Took us back to those sad old places that used to be dotted around the UK in the sad old days. Desperate. It just had a few terrible looking snacks and we chose what looked less bad than the others. Also NO LOO! 'Didn't think that was allowed in places serving food. It was part of the reason we went in. The only reason we are giving this one star is because we can't submit with zero. Avoid!

Called in for coffee and cake. The coffee wasn't a flat white as requested. The raspberry flan that my wife had looked good and the warm scone I had was nice, but spoiled by the hard knob of butter. The entrance door was open and there were seats and tables to the right. It was jolly cold though. The seating and tables were left overs from the 50's and 60's I think. Wasked for a warm scone and it arrived having been heated in a microwave. We sent it back because it was like eating rubber. We had a slice of red velvet cake, although when we asked what it was we were told it was “vanilla with dye in to make it red”. It was passable if tasting quite a bit of bicarbonate of soda. Looking for some tea and a scone at the end of a long day's sightseeing, we spotted this tea-room with its perfect location between Lincoln Castle and Cathedral. Service is at the counter and my husband ordered us cream teas, and we sat in a nicely appointed room to wait for them. When they arrived I think the scones must have been heated through in the microwave as theywere hot and floppy, and in the case of mine sitting between heaped mounds of jam and cream which were melting into them, which was rather odd (my husband was given a paper pot with his cream in, which at least made a barrier with the hot scone). Apart from that a perfectly reasonable scone and tea, but in this location I would have expected better I'm afraid.

The tables are all for two but they were happy for us to join tables together. The staff were friendly and the food nice, we had several different things and each was good. The one complaint would be that for the scones the cream was very thin cream rather than clotted cream. But if you’re looking for a coffee or food while in the area it’d recommend it.

I live locally and have now visited One Castle Hill a couple of times as it is in a great position. However, whilst the drinks have always been ok (I've never eaten here) the staff and service has always been sub-par. On my last visit we were stood by the counter for a good 6 minutes before we were even acknowledged as the staff where just stood chatting. Our order was taken without so much as a 'hello' and we were made to feel like we were intruding. We chose to sit outside as the weather was nice but all of the tables where covered in used crockery and discarded drinks. We cleared the bits into a pile so we could use a table and even when our drinks were brought out no attempt was made to clear away the dirty pots that were there. Eventually someone came out and started to clear some tables, when they made it to ours they didn't say anything just grabbed at the rubbish and walked off, without actually cleaning the surface. The staff seem to lack any customer service, even down to the basics of being polite and courteous. I don't think I am expecting too much when it comes to customer service but a smile, hello and clean tables would be a good place to start. I no doubt will try this place again due to its location & can only hope that customer services improves.

Two of us had a light breakfast before touring the Castle and Cathedral. The bakery is perfectly sited midway between the two historical buildings.

This says it is a patisserie but the selection of pastries and cakes was very limited. There was however a wide range of fudge and other sweets which seemed a bit of of place. You order in one room at a display counter and go through to sit and wait in another room if you are eating in. Actually getting the order taken took ages and seemed to involve writing it down multiple times, however the serving staff were very helpful and friendly. We had the small spinach and goats cheese tart and something resembling a small pizza. The tart was rather salty and came with a small salad with a sweet dressing and seemed to have been microwaved judging by the texture of the pastry. It was luke warm. The pizza also had that slightly soggy microwaved texture. Not great. The coffee was rather small but drinkable.

Took a break prior to Lincoln Cathedral and decided for some milkshakes and sat outside people watching. All 3 of us ordered milkshakes, different flavors. Our child didn't even finish his. They tasted bland and full of commercial syrup.

This is a strange one for me, so I feel I have to write it in a kind of disjointed narrative. Positives and negatives.

Went on Saturday lunchtime, wasn't particularly busy. Sat outside as lovely location between castle and cathedral. You order at counter. No acknowledgement of our existence. It's really not hard to say 'hi' or 'can I help you'. Food in fridge in chiller unlabelled so had to ask what was what. Placed order and had to ask if they bring to table or we wait there. The lady brought our order out, put down and went to walk away, not a word said, I had rustico and friend had soup. I asked for mayo and told 'no' (some of the sandwiches look like they have mayo in???) and my friend asked for salt and she said she'd bring. Salt never came we had to go get from a table inside. My rustico was very dry and really needed mayo . To sum up this place has a prime location but really needs to up its game with customer service and sundries. If you just want a coffee you'll be ok although I did witness them get another couples order wrong!!! I shall not return.

Popped in here before entering Lincoln Castle for a concert. It was really busy but the staff were really friendly and incredibly efficient. The cheese scones were delicious!

Great little patisserie right on castle square between cathedral and Castle. Really nice fresh coffee, superb home baking, try the lemon drizzle cake. Good service, outside seating and very reasonable pricing considering location, worth a visit.

Wonderful location, cakes and pastries look good but we wanted just a coffee. It arrived quickly enough but had been badly slopped into the saucers; no offer of a napkin to sort it, though. The service was OK without the sort of enthusiasm which really lifts a visit for a coffee.

Food choices were very limited and not much effort was made to make them look particularly appetising, We had a quiche and a baguette and both were pretty tasteless. Coffee was nice though, to be fair. Service wasn't exactly with a smile but it was prompt enough. All in all I think the place doesn't make much effort because its position right on the square in between the cathedral and the castle means it doesn't have to. It wasn't awful and it did for a pit stop. But there are probably much better places just yards away down Steep Hill.

Suddenly this Starbucks only sells hot drinks in large mugs, minimum cost of hot chocolate £4, the current staff either don’t care or don’t know , what a change from previous years. I’m deleting my app , it’s pointless.

Got the mango bubble drink. Could’ve used more flavour and mango bubbles to it.But it tasted very watery even without the ice melting yet.
