I’d love to make some comment here about the quality of the food, but I never got to try it. Two of us went in and ordered mixed kebabs, after 10/15 mins one of us was served, of course I naively expected mine to come pretty quickly. After 5 mins I asked the waiter where mine was, he went to the kitchen and an arguement seemed to ensure with lots of pointing at our table, then he came over as said my order had been sent to someone else and they were making me another one (fair enough mistakes happen). After 20 further mins, I said to the waiter I’d now waited longer than the original order took, twice I asked to speak to the manager and twice he just looked over at us and literally walked the other way. I understand that mistakes happen, but was is appalling is pretending they haven’t happened and managers or owners just ignoring it. If you want my advice, visit somewhere that values your custom more

Food average. Prices average. Service good. 5 small potato wages with a kebab dish? Situated in a busy location. Visited once but doubt again. Bad fat smell in premises. Good job windows were open

Awful. Kofta dripping in fat and contains no seasoning at all, it’s just a ball of meat! Cous cous is just rice, chicken is poor quality and not breast meat. Salad is smothered in cheap dried herbs. Houmous is laughable. I would recommend a late night kebab elsewhere if you’re after something to line the stomach. Owner seems more interested in “look at me” parading around factor rather than what terrible food they’re serving.

This BRILLIANT little bistro, tucked away in Teviot Place, thoroughly DESERVES its consistently-high reputation. You feel you are part of their family, as you receive special and personal service; nothing is too much trouble for them to 'tweak' dishes slightly to suit YOUR personal preference. Fabulous food, reasonably priced, and really pleasant atmosphere, Olly's truly deserves its place at the very TOP of eateries in Edinburgh, to be visited and thoroughly enjoyed, over and over again.

The greek food was great and the meze and tapas and qlso the chicken kebab. But the best was the atmosphere the music and the people who work there

What a hidden gem! Olly Bongo's is my go to place to eat out in Edinburgh. Excellent for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I came here over the weekend with three friends and the grilled chicken was delicious. I also recommend the meze and they had a fantastic breakfast menu. Get there early to grab a window seat. I used to live in Greece and this is the best Greek food in the city. This place is excellent for student, excellent for kids, excellent for friends and excellent for couples. The owner is lovely and so are all the other staff. Tell your friends and family about this amazing restaurant.

Olly Bongo's has the most delicious food in all of Edinburgh! What we did was order 5 main meals between 4 of us and share. This was a great way to try lots of dishes. It is also fantastically priced and only came to £11 each and we had so much food that was just delicious! I really recommend the meze - absolutely delicious and great for a healthy lunch or to share along with your main meal! There were also so many healthy options. The staff are so friendly and were happy to move tables around because we ordered so much food we needed another table to fit it all on! I am so happy they are open again, I couldn't recommend enough :) This is a great place if you are on a budget, want a inexpensive breakfast/lunch/dinner, friendly staff, and the most delicious food in Edinburgh

This place was recommended to us and could not fault it at all...after a horrible hotel stay we were glad to come here and get a lovely breakfast and some awesome coffee...we bought some delicious baklava on the way out too...well worth a visit! Will...

Just a great wee independent restaurant. Very tasty food, reasonably priced, in a cosy environment. I think it is run mainly by a father and son and there is always a friendly welcome.

The staff are incredibly friendly! We had Greek salad and hummus and pitta as our starters. Then had veggie moussakas, lamb keftes and a veggie mezze. It was all delicious! Would recommend to everyone.

Authentic Mediterranean cuisine....really impressed with quality of food. Mixed kebab was lovely and plenty of it. Vegetarian moussaka was also excellent. Great value and relaxing atmosphere inside.

Went to this place for the first time on a late lunch break between festival shows ... to be honest I found the name a bit off putting, and initially it looks more cafe like ... so I recommend anyone who feels the same gets over that and gives it a try. Great range of food ... I had the medium mezze, and loved the dolmades in particular Great friendly service and atmosphere ... will definitely go there again

I love this place! It’s like (what I believe) is a little touch of the Mediterranean in Edinburgh. Only Bongos, with the sun shining in and the windows open, is one of the nicest cafeterias in Edinburgh. Staff are friendly and polite, even in amongst the hugely busy time that is the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe. I come here because Hussain and his team are so friendly. Thank you to them.

We were looking for something to eat between shows at the fringe and came across Olly bongos. We weren't expecting much but the service and more importantly the food was great. I had moussaka, and my partner had keftes. Both were delicious and reasonably priced.A nice place to sit as we were in the window.

We were here in festival season, so they were on quick turnarounds, but they didn't push us out and left us to enjoy our meal and take time. It was good greek & turkish offering, nicely cooked and felt quite wholesome/home cooked style.

Been here a few times now and popped in unexpectedly on a Saturday evening during the Fringe & were lucky to get the open window seat straight away. We had a couple of glasses of wine with some olives and Backlava and watched the world go by. Good service and we like it as you can just have drinks and nibblesif you don’t want to eat a full meal. Been here a couple of times but didn't think we would get a seat during the Fringe but, whilst a couple of the neighbouring restaurants had queues (all to do with their student friendly prices) we popped in to a bustling wee space and were shown to a table immediately.

Whilst between Fringe shows in the early evening the two of us chanced upon "Olly Bongo's"; not having read any reviews. It was quiet and we were well received by a really nice waitress, although all the other staff around the place seemed listless.

We went up town yesterday with an open mind about where we were going to eat our evening meal and came across Olly Bongos Greek restaurant. Lovely little place where the whole staff couldn't have made us more welcome. Having been to two excellent Greek restaurants in Germany in the past we were astounded by the quality of the two meals we ordered. Lamb Mousakka and Vegetable Mousakka,on the way out I was treated to an ouzo and my partner a Baklava.What a lovely little gem in the middle of Edinburgh,well worth a visit.

On my way to a haircut appointment, I passed this cafe. It serves breakfast all day and the posted menu had a choice for everyone. It's a Greek cafe with a full range of food offerings. Ordered the Turkish sausage and egg. Out comes a tasty breakfast with a side of sliced pitta.

Used to work near Olly's and lunch here more often. The colour scheme may have changed but the food is as good as ever. Our favourites are the meze and the lamb koftas. Value is superb - a main and a drink for under £10 in the Old Town is exceptional. Glasses of chilled tap water available without charge.

A reliable favourite for regular Sunday breakfast/brunch/lunch. All breakfast items are good and mezze plates very tasty especially with a glass of wine. Friendly service, tasty food and good service make me keep coming back with friends. A simple but enjoyable place.

We happened upon this place and were so glad we did. The atmosphere was quiet, totally uncyncical, non-competitive, non-hipster (unlike almost everywhere else in the vicinity), just generally welcoming and straight forward :) and the food was really lovely! - as well as being reasonably priced. I liked that you could see the kitchen - it felt like a family member was making you breakfast - *in a good way* ... looking forward to going back and trying other things on the menu.

Went to Olly Bongo's for lunch and ordered the medium meze plate. It contained many different kinds of dips and veg and everything tasted so delicious. The waiter was super friendly and the ambience was relaxing. Will definitely come back!

We needed to eat, and we needed to treat a visiting friend from the States. A local pal recommended Olly Bongos and we were delighted with the choice. Great location (very close to Uni/Meadows/Bobby) and lovely friendly people. Food was fresh, hot, plentiful, varied and tasty.

I was urged to try them and so happy I did. The breakfast was A-1 yum and how clever they are to serve coffee in petite presses (several blends to choose from) . Menu is diverse, English, American, Med, it's all good.

Came here with 3 friends during the Fringe. We all had moussaka and it was marvellous! The chocolate cake dessert was a little dry. But we had large glasses of wine for £4.50, and overall the food was very good and very reasonable. Highly recommended.

It might be empty, but it is amazing. The food is so good, and the staff is friendly. The medium meze is highly recommended.

Had been recommended this Cafe for breakfast and what a good shout. Great service, lovely decor and good sized breakfasts. We had the Scottish and the Veggie, and I was impressed on the Scottish twist to the veggie breakfast. Will definitely go again next year!

Superb service in a friendly and characterful Mediterranean eating place. We have had afternoon tea and cakes here twice. When we came back one evening the service and food was equally great. Although busy we were not made to rush.

Enriquecerse justo al lado de la med/quad/zona dorada universidad potterow globo y por lo tanto muy cerca de muchos espectáculos. El personal es encantador, té bueno (ollas! ! Hurra por! Un menú) y/Mediterráneo (Medio Oriente) que parece orientado a muy prometedores. Volveremos :-)

Mi familia estaban en la Ciudad Vieja por un día en el borde y tenía 50 minutos antes de que saliera el comienzo de nuestro primer show al mediodía en el Deportivo Dome, así que fuimos a Olly Bongos para algo de luz por la mañana tarde picaduras. Tiene un baño turco medio tema oriental y es un ambiente compacto pero agradable. Mi familia tenía varios bocadillos que todos estaban bien, pero las cosas todas llevó más tiempo de lo previsto, así que terminamos un poco apresurarse cosas hacia el final. Por desgracia se olvidaron de traerme mi pastas danesas y se nos acabó el tiempo así que tenía que ser cancelado. La camarera era muy agradable, pero quizás un poco acosadas como el lugar estaba lleno, y la zona de preparación es bastante pequeño. Si no hubiera tenido la presión de tiempo de un espectáculo de 12 horas, creo que hubiera sido bastante contentos con Olly Bongos, pero el servicio era un poco demasiado lento en el día. Sin duda vale la pena intentarlo.

Olly es un gran lugar para comer todo el día. No fantásticos desayunos y el mejor café, pero las cenas son buenas también. Grandes platos y un montón de comida bien preparada que no es caro. Me encanta el meze y uno pequeño es más que suficiente. Tienen que beber con Efes.

Mis amigos y yo hemos estado dos veces y las dos veces nos quedamos sorprendidos de cómo era justo allí como Olly Bongo's es un gran tesoro y más gente debería de ir aquí! Sirven una variedad de comida griega y turca, y he tenido el plato mediano y el spanakopitas meze y ambos eran increíbles. Realmente tienen una amplia variedad de opciones vegetarianas que era sorprendente pero gran saber. La decoración está bien hecho y lo hace sentir cálido y acogedor, y el personal es tan agradable! Sin duda recomiendo ir aquí como es tan fenomenal y realmente merece tener más negocios.

Called in for a quick coffee before heading off for the train station... spotted the menu... chose the feta & spinach bruschetta with olives and side salad... absolutely fabulous - warm, friendly and personal service, nice surroundings (will be even better when the refurbishment of McEwan Hall is completed this summer) make for a pleasant ambience. Lovely coffee, beautiful food and all at a great price - heartily recommended.

I went there with my friends and they are used to the typical British food and liked there. Because of the alternative vibe of the place, with some middle eastern Influence, I was expecting a different menu. There's a lot of typical favourites: full British breakfast and baked potato. I went for falafel wrap with hummus and was a bit disappointed. Everything was a bit bland, mushy and on a small size. It costed almost £6 and I payed £7 with tips. I think it was overpriced since for £8 I can have a fantastic Korean meal with entré included for free, just a few blocks away. My friend had a 'French toast' with bananas. It comprised of two triangles of white bread (the cheapest you can buy) tipped in egg (which looked scrabbled) with some slices of banana on the side and a tiny container with some maple syrup in it. The best looking dish was the potato that was richly roped with all kinds of goodies. It looked delicious and had a good size as well. Maybe the best alternative if you are in a fixed budged. I will be coming back for coffee or tea and sweeties as it looks like is there speciality.

Colleague and I went for lunch. Busy close quartered eatery with open kitchen.Had a baked potato with tuna mayo . . Lovely fresh salad . . Tattie was microwaved and finished in the oven with the tuna mayo in situ . . . Unusual but very tasty.Colleague had meze for one and devoured it all with relish.Friendly waiting staff, good menu, well presented food. . I'll go back!

Its a small place, with basic facilities and an extensive and well thought out menu. The prices are very very reasonable, and waitress was absolutely lovely and helpful. The extensive plate of Meze is phenomenal value for money. Coffee is strong and beautifully prepared, This is the kind of lunch time stop where you will go again and again.

We'd never visited Edinburgh and we're trying to find somewhere to eat for a quick bite before tackling the museum of Scotland. So happy to stumble accross this friendly little gem. An extensive lunch menu features everything from Greek salad and mezes to full English breakkie all at reasonable prices. The waitress was friendly and helpful. The meze featured hummous, haloumi, dolmades, green beans and t omatos, and cous cous. Very tasty.

Was out on a day in Edinburgh and frankly had walked out of one very overpriced place and passed this cafe. Thought we would give it a try and were very plased we did. Being a bit of a traditionalist I have an English all day breakfast, not that exciting i agree but it was well cooked and tasty so no complaints from me. Wife and sister were a little more adventurous and went for greek/turkish cuisine and both loved it. May be a bit cramped and not exactly five star surrounding but if you want some good and wholesome food at a reasonable price I cannot recommend this place enough.

Really can't fault the food or service. Our waitress was very attentive and took our order promptly. I had a fantastic vegetarian dish and my partner had the soup of the day. Extremely reasonably priced - portion sizes were great! Only tiny criticism I could make is that the tables are probably too close to each other - though that might be in order to cultivate a certain cosmopolitan atmosphere that wasn't there on a quiet lunch time service. Extremely good place for lunch - would definitely recommend!

The place has a great and warm atmosphere and very nice decoration, the service is very good too and fast, even at the lunch time, but the meal was not so good. The soup was very tasty, but the chiken has seemed not cooked enough, and very salty. It is a nice place, but they must to care the details to be noted in an area full of restaurants.

If you want food that just came out of a tin or "traditional" recipes that do not even exist that is your place! I would not recommend it if you'd like to taste the Turkish cuisine.

Four of us dropped in here yesterday for breakfast, as it looked cozy and the prices on the outside menu looked good.A table of six people was waiting for their food.It was pretty cold inside, and we waiting quite awhile without getting any service. We were about to leave, when the busy and friendly waitress brought us menus and assured us that it would not take too long to be served.She was correct, and the food was good.Two of us had the big British Breakfast...plenty of good food.All in all, it was pretty good, but it could have been a bit warmer inside.

Not all the prepossessing a sight, from the outside, once you open the door you'll find yourself in a wonderfully colourful and slightly exotic space.I found it, by chance, early on a Sunday morning and am very, very happy I did!There's an excellent breakfast menu (which is what i was seeking) and the home blend coffee is superb!I ordered the American Breakfast but it was nothing like the one that someone described as being a foot high, with a cherry on the top.' It was a plate full of excellent bacon, perfectly scrambled eggs and lots of toast!Olly Bongo's could teach the Yanks a thing or three, I'm thinking!I think I might have been its first customer but, not so far into my delicious repast, in came The Others, who know where there's going to be good value and an harmonious atmosphere.I shall return!

I came back here four or five times during our trip in Edinburgh to have a breakfast or brunch. This restaurant is lovely. I loved the sofa and we always sat down near on the window which is actually opened and you feel like your at home.Their breakfast is nice and cheap. I always ordered their pancake with bacon and Americano coffee and it actually taste good. The staff are very nice. A lot of people actually came here and more people comes here every time we visit. I think the price of the food is reasonable too. For more two orders of pancake and coffee, it cost me around 6.50 GBP (not bad).

we found this place by chance as all the main areas were full or we had to wait over an hour to eat. It is well placed and has excellent service. The menu is small but what we had was very good, as was the wine. It's a mix of tastes but well worth it as it was not expensive.

Trying to find a lunch spot in Edinburgh during the festival is a nightmare. Even the average eateries.So I was a little surprised to find myself at a table at this restaurant which had been recommended. Still, don't look gift horse etc. Well positioned beside McEwan hall and the Gilded balloon festival venue. Windows were open and it was a pleasant place to sit and have my beer. Perhaps at £3.20 a pop, the shine was taken slightly off it. Service was OK, perhaps the festival numbers had impacted on a smile. Nacho starter was big and did what it said on the tin. Pretty tasty. I should have stopped there. I had the chicken shish kebab. It was pretty uninspiring. Perhaps I chose on an off day. Salad was dried out and the chicken was over cooked, dry, and chewy. Finding a good place for lunch in this area is a challenge. Perhaps I was just unlucky and may try again sometime.

But not jump-out fantastic food. Quirky cafe with wide range of foods and a local clientele, service could be better.

We eat regularly in Edinburgh and love the choice of international cuisine. This is one of our all time favourites. The food is cooked fresh with plenty of salad. The kebabs, koftas and meze are wonderfully seasoned and the moussaka is homemade-served with delicious wine. The pancakes are amazing. You can also get a great cup of coffee. Very friendly service. In addition, it costs us at least half of any other restaurant we visit.

Told the restaurant that they are breaking the licensing law as they do not display the size measure for wine along with the price on the menu, or in the restaurant.This is against the Licensing Act 2003 (October 2014 amendments).Reported to council to check they comply.

We loved the look of this place and decided to stop for lunch. So glad we did as the food was delicious and our waitress was really helpful and friendly. The portions are generous too!

It has a wonderful atmosphere. Warm and friendly staff, incredibly relaxing and good food and coffee too.
