Olivo - Ristorante Italiano in Guildford

haven't been for a while as last experience not too good - food and obnoxious female manager. However was delighted to find last Thursday that all seems to have changed. Our waitress (small blonde ) was wonderful. The service and food seemed much improved - we had the sweet potatoe soup with toast and the tagliatelli - both superb. Will return soon

I spent a lovely dinner time with my family. Delicious pasta conghialle and ossobuco with pizzas for the kids and a surprise on the end with toy ice cream. Thank you Olivo , we come back!

Amazing ambiance, great staff and the food was just Devine. Why? Because the service was extremely attentive, the location for our dining was in one of many lovely areas of the restaurant and the staff was happy to check with their chef to provide me with advice on what’s is best based on palate of this evening. I took the advice of trying their new to menu lamb chops and they didn’t disappoint. 😊. Will for sure continue to visit this restaurant and support the family run business. What else did I like, is the REAL italian cuisines and cooked food. HARD to find at most italian restaurants. I would also like to thank the team waiter Ismail who kindly took care of me and my partner for her birthday meal and who gave us a wonderful experience and who is a credit to Olivo.

We went to Olivo and had a stunning dinner. We got served with amazing lasagna, pasta amatricana, tomahawk and the delicious paroadele tarttufato pasta. We got served by Pino who recommended us with the dishes. It was an astonishing experience with a friendly atmosphere, it was definitely worth going and we will be visiting Olivo again.

I'm an Italian guy, I've been looking for years, A place where eating I could feel the same sensations I felt in Italy, tonight I tried this restaurant in Guildford and it surprised me so much, the best Italian food I have ever eaten here in England

Came for the food, stayed for the balsamic vinegar! We came as a family of four (mum, dad and two kids 5 and 3) and had a lovely lunch with friendly professional service. For starter we had arancini and a prawn salad which were generous and delicious For mains we had carbonara (very relieved guanciale instead of bacon) which was excellent and mummy had ravioli with truffle which she loved The highlight was the balsamic vinegar though! Thick and sweet and when asked where it came from was told it's made in-house! And it shows you cannot buy this quality of balsamic vinegar off the shelves in the UK you have to get lucky and come to a great restaurant like this Highly recommend the food and the great staff And highly, highly recommend the sunny balsamic vinegar (I managed to get a small sample to take home too!) 🙂🙂

Absolutely amazing experience! The food is incredibly delicious, the pasta was cooked to perfection. The ambiance was charming and cozy seating that immediately transported me to Italy. I ate at Olivo a couple of years ago and it was honestly so good I couldn’t wait to return, I finally had the opportunity to do so this evening and I was extremely disappointed and feel like it would have been easier to have flushed the £100 spent down the toilet as that is all I can compare the service and food to sadly. Service was not good, they did not give the kind welcoming feeling. Food was absolutely atrocious, dry, bland and cold. I will never return.

We went to Olivo for lunch on Mothers Day. We have been to this restaurant many times and enjoy the food, but we won’t be returning after our experience on Mother’s Day. Unfortunately, the service on Mother’s Day was very bad. The waitress was generally sarcastic and very rushed. Our main complaint, however, is that when the waitress brought the dessert menus she told us that we would have to leave the table In 15 minutes. We had not been told that there was time limit of 1 hour 30nmins on the table. When we asked to speak with the manager, the waitress quickly changed her approach and said we could stay and there was no time limit. She explained that another group had arrived and the restaurant could not find their booking and they were trying to find them a table. It was clear that she had tried to get rid of us in order to accommodate other customers. In recognition of the bad service, the restaurant did not charge us the service charge. The attitude of this waitress ruined Mother’s Day for my elderly mother and, though we have enjoyed many good meals at this restaurant, we won’t be returning as the service was shockingly bad.

I have been going to Olivo for long lunches with friends for many, many years. The restaurant has been, deservedly, a much loved local institution. Therefore, I was a little apprehensive to hear about the change of ownership. However, I am pleased to report that excellent food, the authentic Italian ambience and the accommodating service remain resolutely intact, just like the place itself. Long may it continue.

The food is absolutely delicios! Every dish i tried was bursting with flavour and cooked to perfecțion.I've been to many similar restaurant but this one truly stand out! We have eaten here many times, The restaurant had a very attentive new manager, she is very attentive, the food service and the whole experience were excellent from start to finish. We will be back and thank you to the team. The food was exceptional and I don't say that easily as I am a chef.

We went to Olivo for lunch yesterday during our first visit to Guildford. The food was delicious with generous portions and lunch sets were great value for money. We had an opportunity to get know the restaurant manager, Diana, her adorable son and chef. They were very friendly and gave us a special treat. We will definitely be back and thanks a lot to the amazing team! Highly recommend and is so close to the castle!

It was our first time eating here and must say not a great experience. I had the Tricalore salad which would normally be lovely ripe beef tomatoes, good quality buffalo mozzarella and ripe avocado with some fresh mint. This was the complete opposite, hard cheap and tasteless tomatoes, avocado could not even be cut as was so hard and the mozzarella no taste and very cheap. This is a very simple iconic Italian dish that does not require any cooking, just quality ingredients. It really was awful so sent it away. To add insult to injury it was left on the bill and had to ask for it to be removed. Another strange thing was there was no balsamic vinegar, again a staple Italian vinegar, instead only a thick a gloopy balsamic glaze was offered. The rest of the food was just okay really. Service not great as had to ask for everything over and over again , water ice, and cutlery for every course. There were a couple of newish young members of staff who really tried their best and was very much appreciated. There were two ladies with turquoise blazers on, presumably supervisors, the bigger lady was not friendly at all. I asked her for some ice and she just stared at me then tried to be all nice and smiley right at the end as we were leaving, sorry just not good enough. Sadly could not recommend or visit again☹️

The best risotto and carbonara I have ever tasted in an Italian restaurant .The flavours are fresh, making the dish out of this world. Will always can rely on a tasty, out of this world, meal in this establishment.

This was the closest I've ever got to experincing actual Fawlty Towers. Still reeling from an utterly surreal dining experince saturday evening. The restaurant seems lovely- really beautiful and atmospheric, already decorated for Christmas. The waiting staff were very attentive. However, a number of things happened this evening which surprised me... Firstly, our food took over an hour to arrive. When we'd been waiting for almost an hour, we asked where it was, and were told apologetically that there was a large party of 20 upstairs that had to be served at the same time and that was why ours was late. However, a different waitress told us it was because our meals had been given to another table by mistake. Not sure what really hapened. They were very apologetic and we finally got our meals. Things were also not going too well on the table next to us either, who got brought the some glasses of red wine multiple times despite repeatedly saying we orderered white - WHITE!! Finally got our meals (delicious). We were given a soft drink on the house each as an apology. Our meals really were lovely. However, our enjoyment of them was interrupted by loud angry arguments that appeared to breaking out in the enttrance to the kitchen in front of our table, involving some staff members (not sure if with each other or with customers, but something very heated was going on!). Things then got more heated, but elsewhere in the restaurant; things started kicking off with a (seemingly very drunk) customer. There was loud swearing, squaring up and angry arguing and everyone in the room was staring. I hastily asked for the bill at this point as I was worried about it turning into a physical fight and we were pretty close to the action! Waiting staff kept coming over to us to apologise and to try and explain what was happening, and to assure us it isn't usually like this... The bill was brought over to us and we paid. I must admit that after this expereince I was surprised they hadn't taken the service charge off, but had still charged us the full amount for service. Being very British, we didn't say anything and dutifully paid it. But then, as we were about to leave, and chatting, a waitress came with the card reader and tried to get us to pay our bill again! We had to laugh. So, all in all, lovely food, very entertaining (if we were there for a comedy show), a bit disconcerting, and a very memorable night out.

Olivo is a cosy little restaurant with an outdoor seating area in a prime location in Guildford, right by the castle and a stones throw from the high street. We ate the duck which was divine, really different and well cooked as in my experience as a meat usually hit or miss.. and my partner had one of their superb pastas; honestly I forget which one but I had some and it was lovely. More than anything loved the ambiance, felt completely comfortable and made to feel at home by the friendly staff and its easy to see its a family run establishment. Highly recommend.

We've done this for a few years now. We're in London on holiday, take the train out to beautiful Guildford. Stroll High Street (this year in beautiful sunshine!) and then meet up with our nephew and niece with their families for a beautiful meal. And, once again, Olivio's made sure we had a delightful time. In fact, we were the last ones in the upstairs part of the restaurant. As we head back to America, we can't thank you enough for a memorable family time.
