Although the food and shop itself are great, when did fish and chips become so expensive 😞. Takeaway is not the same cost as a meal out

A, really, really good fish and chips. Very popular. Parking available just around the corner where there is free parking for an hour. Takeaway or can sit at the inside tables. Highly recommend.

First time coming here as I haven't long moved to paddock wood. Tasted amazing! The only reason I haven't done 5 stars is because I feel the pricing doesn't quite match portion sizes. Don't get me wrong, there was enough, I wasn't left hungry but usually for £12.50 cod & chips you'd typically have a fair amount of left overs to nibble on later. Regardless, taste wise it is definitely top-notch. Customer service is over and beyond (a kind lady gave my daughter a lollipop because she wasn't feeling well). I was hungry and it tasted good so I didn't manage to snap any pics before hand. I will next time though. The chicken looked lovely so I will also try the chicken next time too!! ☺️

Paddock Wood seems to be in its own weird ignorant world unbeknownst to what actually value and quality is. Fish and Chips in a village shouldn’t cost London prices, nor should adult portions be more like children’s sizes. Nearly 5 pounds for a Pukka pie, fish and chips over 12 pounds, all the while everything being bang average compared to other chippies in the surrounding environs. Service also takes forever, as it seems nothing is ever ready. All a freshly fried fish means is a pool of grease in the bag when you get home. I’ll stick to East Peckham, thanks.

Love this little fish and chips. It's always busy, which is always a great sign! The food is so good! The kids' meals are good portion sizes and cheap! Well worth a visit.

Oliver's is reasonably good fish an chip shop, service is quick in fact as the fish is in most cases cooked to order, I wish they would cook the fish a little bit longer, as sometimes the batter on the inside is a little undercooked although the fish is cooked (why is that)?. Fat too hot?. It's a little pricy too but everything is at present. Nice staff always polite.

Must say 2 portions of chips nearly £9 and were dried out every disappointed. Went to east Peckham 2 weekends ago and was great. Lost customers and it’s a shame for local business.

I have been going to this chippy for over a year now. The owner is very friendly and welcoming and the food is always great. The only time I seem to have a bad experience here is with the brunette lady that is usually front of house. She appears to go out of her way to be rude specifically to me to the point I would choose another takeaway option if she is working when passing by just to avoid a bad vibe. Manners and kindness cost nothing.

£3 for the worlds SMALLEST bag of chips & being a Londoner you know your portions, £3 will get you a bag 3x the size at least, these lot are raking it in!

My son went to Olivers from the lake and when he returned half the order was missing so instead of large sausage and chips and a fish and chips there was only a small bag of chips and the fish and chips no sausages

Had small cod and chips. The cod was a decent size and the batter excellent, crispy and tasty. Probably one of the best battered fish from a chippie I've had. Chips also good, cooked until golden brown. £19.95 for two small (but ample) cod and a large portion of chips which was more than enough for two people.

Sweet best chippy around great staff. Come from East peckham love it. Well done peeps keep up the good work.

No complaints here. It's worth knowing that they don't accept card payments temporarily (as of 10th Feb 2024, for about a month may be?).

We have been visiting for a few years and the fish and chips is tasty but the cost of living crisis has reduced the portion size. Sadly the "large cod" is no longer large. £24 for one quite small "large cod", a rock, battered sausage and a portion of chips is not value for money. Absolutely can't knock the quality of the food which is always excellent.

Second visit here to see if any better. Cod was tiny but nicely cooked but chips for a medium portion was probably just over a potatoes worth and not the best tasting bit 'dried out' wont be using again.

Definitely at the upper end of price for fish and chips, sadly not the best. The food was fine, but you pay extra for chips with your fish, and there were barely any! Certainly not enough for almost £3 worth of chips. The curry sauce was congealed, and the large cod was not particularly large, and it was very thin. We paid £23.75 for a large cod and chips, small cod and chips and curry sauce, overall disappointing, we won’t be coming back.

We have been here several times and never been disappointed with fish and chips. Lovely cooked fish with light crispy batter and chips are always perfect. A friendly service adds to the pleasant experience. Keep it up.

Had Cod and chips was very nice

I had the children's fish and chips, it was delicious, piping hot and plenty of it.

Bought 3 specials (lemon Sole) last night plus chips etc, was sickened to find in 2 of these fish contained large egg masses(roe) the size and length of my index finger! when I cut in I was horrified to find deep fried roe spilling out onto my plate. This made all of us feel sick, had to put it in the bin. Called to highlight this , spoke with Theresa who said I should have requested the fish without the Roe🤔. Was told this was not a fish and chip shop as not everyone gets their fish from Billingsgate like Oliver’s do, would inform their chef of my call. Really, customer always right and you should let them be aware that could be the case , that the fish could contain this. My name was taken and offered a discount on my next visit but on reflection don’t want to risk this again. I must say that in the past I’ve never had a problem with Oliver’s, I didn’t like the way my call was handled, very defensive and made to feel it was my fault for not selecting de roed fish 😬 What a waste of £41!

Fish was soggy, chips bone dry, no vinegar or salt, just rubbish, curry sauce 2 quid for small coffee cup, rip off - 15 quid for fish medium chips and sauce. should have got a Chinese

Chips are very nice, haddock and cod bites on the other hand tasted very fishy and not very pleasant to eat. Expected alot better for the price of the fish!

Fair choice of food. Not clear ordering instructions relating to eat in surcharge. But was ok overall

So lucky to have a decent chippy in the village! We had 2 x battered sausage and chips, a piece of fried chicken, burger and curry sauces and everything was cooked perfectly and so tasty. The lady running the shop is joy personified! We ate in and she let me open my bottle of wine and gave me a glass (BYOB, baby!!). Everyone left with a smile.

Quite simply THE BEST fish and chip shop I have used inland. Quality fish and chips. Eat in or take away. Fantastic staff who really care. I will drive 7 miles to this place rather than go to one in my village 2 minutes away.

Some of, if not the best fish and chips in the area. Crispy batter on the fish that stays crispy on the drive home. Well cooked chips.

Came in 20mins after opening and still didn't have chips ready, so had to wait 10 minutes. Chips tasted funny, an aftertaste from some kind of cleaning product I think. Otherwise very bland, not your classic fish and chip shop taste. Also, very expensive. Next time I'll drive to East Peckham where you get amazing chips for a reasonable price.

Very nice food and made to order

This is the first time me and my wife have eaten from olivers and its the last time the large fish wasn't large more like small the large cheesy chips was smaller than the small chips I'm sorry but wow get your portion control correct before you start charging £20.

Food was good and doors open to fresh air making it a safe venue if vulnerable.

Manager is rude to his staff. Chips were tasteless and we don't believe the fish was cod. It didn't look or flake like cod. Cheapest tasteless sausages used, so cheap they look white in the middle and the batter was really greasy. Just to top it off, you are charged an extra 20% to eat inside and this is not advertised. Be prepared to pay over the norm. A Sausage in batter and chips and small cod and chips was £18.50. Unfortunately there is no competition nearby and I think this is why the food is overpriced. Very disappointed.

Very overpriced. Not convinced the fish was cod. Greasy batter, dry tasteless chips. Owner wants an extra 20% just to eat in and is arrogant and cocky when questioned. Uses tasteless cheap sausages but charges ridiculous prices due to lack of competition in the area. Staff ordered about rudely and their morale seems low because of this. Clean premises just poor quality food and service

Very nice chips! We were on holiday and never thought we'd find a chippy open on a Sunday (1- 8pm). But to eat in they slap a 20% "Service Charge" on, so two little plates of chips & two cups coffee came to £11:20!!!

Well I’ve had I’ve eaten pie 🥧 and 🍟 from places and they have been not great so the first time in a while I had worked late so we tried this place in paddockwood last night I was a little worried but oh my gosh 😱 for a start for a small amount extra you could eat in wow 🤩 for this you get table service 🍽 I mean fare is fare I’m not doing the washing up right. We all so got a mug of tea 🍵 now the tea was made very well and chips perfect 👍 and pie too I have to say I enjoyed it we both did we had the meal in there the man whom looked after us was very nice gentleman polite smiling happy makes life feel just that little better at the end of a busy day you know that arhhhhhh feeling wonder 💭

The chefs & staffs are doing great jobs to serve the customers. Friendly staffs especially the lady took the orders, she always smiles and very polite. The place is very clean, open up the front door to enjoy eating indoor comfortably. I ordered a large cod with regular chips and something else, the fish was very fresh and cooked beautifully. Crunchy outside, softy inside and chips were not oily. I enjoyed the food very well😃

Used to travel nearly 20miles to get chips from here as these were consistently the best ones around. Dont know what happened since the refurb but everytime since then, the food has gone downhill. Chips not hot, curry sauce watery, even though prices have increased. Wont be going back. One good thing come from it.....now saving money on fuel...every cloud and all that

What has happened to the quality since the refurb? Has it had a change of management? On our first visit back we discovered that one of our curry sauces was only 2/3's full, so ok these things happen, so our next visit just 1week later we get chips that are Luke warm and curry sauce so diluted it was tasteless... won't be giving it a third go.👎 Reply to owner... With all due respect guys, the chips were luke warm the curry sauce was tasteless ... what's to discuss 🤔

Super food which tasted really good; smaller than your average shop portions. The cod batter was really light and crispy. The chips were just right - a great balance between crispy and soft. Star deducted for the size of the portions. I thought the "large" cod was actually quite small; at any other chip shop it would've been considered a medium at best. Regular chips were also a tad on the small side.

Dark crispy batter cooked right through and flakes of nice white cod. Just like old fashioned fish and chips. This was our first visit will definitely not be the last. Best fish and chips around.

Busy which is always a great sign but the service is efficient and super friendly! The fish is always cooked well with the batter lovely and crispy the way I like it 😊

Disappointed chips are so dry steak and kidney pie also dry and the fish was to wet from oil. Normally ok here but it's gone down hill very quickly. Will not go again

45 minute wait for 2 portions of chips, they made everyone queue outside except for one person who waited inside. If we hadn't already paid we would have gone elsewhere.

First time ordering a takeaway from here. We ordered chicken burgers, cod, saveloys and chips. Had to wait despite ordering but it was worth the wait. Food was lovely and fresh. Shall be back.

Everything was cooked perfectly, my only comment and reason for 4* instead of 5* was my large cod wasn't very large! Apart from that they're brilliant and they have special fish on regularly.

Food was generally ok, but the portion sizes are a JOKE. 2 and a half quid for a large got me about 2 small handfuls. That’s it. Also the fish was very greasy. Nowhere near as good as the old chip shops back in the day, or my local in East Peckham

I feel like I have been rubbed! Ordered a large cod & came back home just to find out a kid's menu size cod! It is such a shame that the other fish& chips shop had to close & Paddock Wood is stuck with this one.

Usually go here with no problem until today when I ordered a large cod. Got home to find it overcooked and full of oil and by the looks of it they gave me a small as it wasnt the size their large cod usually is
