We were given the Xmas menu on arrival. We then proceeded to order we were told they did not have one of the mains which two of us wanted. Then asked if we could order burgers which we did. Food portions were small, the burgers were just about ok. They were served on a plank of wood with the chips on an enamel dish. We all said it did not look good. The staff were not well turned out in fact quite scruffy. The outside of the pub was covered in leaves, 15 x minutes of sweeping could have cleared it up. We will not return.

OK, the roast was good, there was no pudding menu. Verbally three items. Unfortunately the staff were not at all properly dressed and the servers were very, very young and inexperianced and one constantly chewing gum while we ordered. Everone was pleasent however. This should be a good venue, and the only one we could find to offer a Sunday roast at short notice. The building is not maintained and the outside ares are covered with weeds. Such a pity, as the food was good.

Our experience vastly differs from some of the latest, in a positive way. We arrived at the Hawkenbury for a Family meal booked a few weeks earlier. Little did we know at the time that this clashed with the England Quarter Final Euro Game, adding to this was the game was running into penalty shootout. The pub did not have the booking despite it showing on the App as confirmed. However rather that argue the point the Pub team asked us how we wanted to deal with this. The pub was packed with people watching a tense game and the thought of having a table among this and trying to sit down to a meal was not appealing. So they offer us free drinks till the game ended and they would then set up a table in a quiet area for us and take our orders. The game duly ended, thankfully with an England win. The pub was still busy but nicely so with everyone having a good time, us included. We were showed to our table and orders taken. The food that arrived was superb, I had the Butter Roasted cod and it was excellent. The rest of the family were all suitably impressed with their meals too. We had starters and dessert, I had the great Lemon Posset, all again very tasty. The team at the Hawk and Berry checked and made sure we were well catered for. A perfect example of how a challenging situation can be remedied with communication, common sense, and customer service. Thank you Hawkenbury team. How customer service should work and a rare example of this art these days.

What a great decision to choose the Hawk & Berry pub for our monthly meal with friends! Michael was the perfect host, the food was amazing and the pub itself has a fabulous atmosphere! It has a great rear garden/patio where dogs are welcome, they also have a BBQ hut on the patio, can’t wait to take the poochie back!

We had two starters and a side for lunch. The crispy beef was soggy and not crispy. The green vegetable was hard as a rock and uneatable. The poached pear salad had pear which seemed not to have been poached (it was certainly very hard), had candied walnuts which were not candied, and curly endive that turned out to be a lettuce leaf, The patatas bravas were overcooked but edible. These dishes together with one large and one medium glass of wine cost us more than £50. Despite complaints there were only lukewarm apologies. The decor is improved, but the service is patronising (I am not "luvvie"), As per our usual custom we will give this place one more "go", but two strikes and they are out!

The place is beautifully decorated. Out of 6 of us only one person didn't like one of the dishes. The rest of us enjoyed our food alot. Now the reason I marked it down was we werent able to get a Christmas dinner in the week leading up to Christmas. Now apparently you had to order it which wasn't even an option when I booked the table a few weeks before. Apparently it was only put up on 2nd of December as an option. Now we were a group of six so quite frankly they should have proactively called or email people to see if we wanted that option we were already booked in. So no Christmas dinner for us on our ladies Christmas lunch.

Venue lovely shame about the food, I unfortunately sat facing the bar where the food was being plated, the empty plates were placed under hot lamps then a man in a black jumper, not white overalls so not sure if he was the chef, bought the food out to put on the plates by hand, when I say by hand I mean he literally picked up each item with bare hands and put it on to the plates squashing every item down with his bare hands, I told fa lady who I thought was the manager that I didn’t think this was very hygienic and she said she would sort it, but nothing changed. There is no way I would go back as if this is what they do on show what do they do behind the scenes, this is not a cheap place to eat, the staff were friendly

First time here and the food, a Sunday lunch was excellent. The staff were attentive and plesent, however the tension and atmosphere between the staff was apparent. The decor and furnishings are excellent but please clean the exterior windows. The Chef plates up next to the bar and I found the handling and tossing the food about a bit offputing. OK this is how its done - preferably in the kitchen for me. Will come back just hope the place is still there.

What a wonderful venue. Now in gastro pub form it still has all of the sophisticated ambiance of it’s more formal predecessor. We enjoyed the more informal atmosphere, the beautiful bar now approachable as a place to be. The food was good and both the food and wine list are well priced. Staff were friendly and attentive. This place deserves to succeed as it is a differentiator in a competitive gastro pub market.

Food was lovely compliments to chef! could of been slightly warmer but that is a personal preference, The manager in blue dress today speaks to staff appalling and in ear shot of customers , very unprofessional! Waitress we had was lovely and kept us informed as we did have a wait from main to pudding. Was not impressed overhearing the manager wanting our table to be Gone! We would of been gone if the pudding came out in a timely manner! Not impressed at not being able to be given a receipt of any kind when requested.

My wife and I went for a Sunday Roast. The staff we were friendly and nice, and made us feel very welcome. Unfortunately, the food really let them down. The beef was very poor quality meaning we had to leave most of it. The cheese on the cheese board was plain and again poor quality, and the grapes were past their best. The wine was again very poor. This pub/restaurant has all the makings of a great place but they are falling short with their quality of food and wine, especially when the cost of the menu is very expensive. The outside main entrance is unclear (confusing to find) and needs tidying up/ weeding. If they care less about profit margins, and invest in their food quality (to match their prices), wine selection and outside appearance, it will go along way with their reputation

A lovely space, have not eaten here as yet but intend to as the table next to me’s food looked good enough to eat. It’s really pleasant inside. I see a previous comment mentioned lighting being too low, it’s not anymore, just right in my opinion. A very chilled space. I see someone mentioned the roast in a previous comment, I intend to come back on a Sunday soon.

An extremely well presented establishment with an excellent outside patio, which clearly shows a lot of care and attention has been paid to the detail in it. Inside is tastefully done although could be brighter. The bar area is spacious and inviting. Staff are extremely pleasant and attentive and look after you well. Online it’s unclear for the menu offerings but was pleasantly surprised with the sharing platters (which needs greater advertising). I also feel that lunchtime / afternoon menu during the week could attract more business with 3 or 4 upmarket sandwich / baguette choices - maybe a chicken with mango or a seared tuna and caramelized onion. Well priced for the area in both drinks and food, look forward to coming again when I can be assured of the menu options. Like the Hawk and Berry change of name.

Invited here after a funeral, have driven past while at work many times, but never actually been in until now, lovely atmosphere and they did a lovely spread, only complaint I had was the lack of parking, I appreciate there were a lot of cars that day, and it would be impossible to extend car park due to position, I have also looked at the menu, we quite often use the theatres in Tunbridge Wells and like to make an evening of it by eating out, but unfortunately the menu doesn't seem to have item's that would be appropriate for us,

We visit Thackery’s two to three times a year and always have a wonderful evening. The welcome as you arrive is always special, always warm and friendly, and like seeing old friends. The main event is obviously the food, and the quality is always 5 star. Quality produce and cooked to perfection by the head chef and his team. An extensive wine menu is always a treat, with plenty of options whether by the glass or the bottle to choose from. We are never disappointed by Thackery’s , and are looking forward to our Xmas eves yearly visit next month.
