DO NOT dine at THE OLIVE TREE , we went there two weeks ago and was charged twice for our meals I have have rang them numerous amount of times but unfortunately this still hasn't been sorted even though I have given proof of this happening. I have spoke to the accounts department numerous times also but to be honest they are USELESS they keep saying ohh I do apologise we will get this sorted but I'm still waiting for it to be sorted 2 WEEKS ON ,I have tried to get hold of the olive tree direct but that is proving to be impossible. Be very CAREFULL. ... . TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICES.

Came for food with the family at the end of the Christmas half term break! A lovely meal with so much choice on the buffet (perfect for people with picky children) We were greeted a lovely young girl called Ava/Eva who seemed to be hosting that night. She was so lovely and attentive taking the time out of what seemed a busy night for her to walk us through the buffet and to our table where she sat and really engaged with our kids. The restaurant is definitely lucky to have her. We had Custodio Fernandez and another young girl named Sarah looking after us; both did an amazing job and are an asset to the Celtic Manor! The buffet was great, everything was clearly labelled with everything dietary related which was incredibly helpful and as mentioned earlier there was PLENTY of choice. Will definitely be returning soon :)

We enjoyed afternoon tea to celebrate my moms birthday and what a wonderful treat it was! Our waiter H was absolutely amazing and nothing was too much trouble. The selection of both sweet and savoury was superb and both of us had such a lush time. The ambiance of the restaurant was lovely and I highly recommend 😍 thank you!

I am outraged by the staff at the olive tree. On Sunday night my husband and I had a meal at the Olive tree, we were having a really nice time as it was our 5 year wedding anniversary, the restaurant was getting slightly busy as there was a large party sat inside the main area of the restaurant. Me and my husband were both at the buffet getting food when we heard the boy that sat us down, I think his name was either Ryan or Robbie refer to them by a racial slur because they were asian. I was outraged by this, and my husband felt the same. This ruined our night completely and felt disgusted that someone like that works for a 5* resort where people from all different cultures stay and dine in the restaurants. We would never return to that restaurant again, and recommend that people don't dine there. Such a disappointing night that started out so great. On another note, the food there is very good, mains were brilliant and desserts were on another level, shame the staff have no respect for different races.

Went for afternoon tea and found staff were polite and friendly. Was surprised that there were so many children and babies in what you would expect to be a quiet and relaxing experience. Food was nice enough, although the bread for some of the sandwiches was getting a bit stale (as if they'd been sitting for a while).Altogether, a different experience, but not worth the standard price.

Our food order was not taken to kitchen so we were waiting 45 minutes for our food to arrive. My pasta was missing half of be ingredients listed on the menu so I sent it back. When it came back it was watery and still missing ingredients (chilli!). Apparently the kitchen was too busy to change my order...I had to go out of my way to flag down staff to complain too. Not very tentative!

We went for festive afternoon tea at the Celtic manor, the food was lovely. However issue after issue apart from this. The afternoon tea was advertised as having free parking however when we went to get the ticket validated was told ‘this offer no longer stands’? Also an issue as we paid the bill in cash upon leaving and a few days later £50+ was also taken with the card used to secure the table. It’s been a highly disappointing experience trying to get this money back that shouldn’t have been taken in the first place. I was advised on a Friday that my money would be back in my account by the Monday, however it’s now Wednesday and still no refund. I’ve had to send further emails that say it’ll take 7-10 days for the money to be back in my account and it’s the banks fault not theirs! I fail to believe that a big company like the Celtic manor couldn’t find a way to refund a customer any quicker than this. As it stands I’ve paid over £90 for an afternoon tea for two, no offer of a refund except for the money which they took incorrectly in the first place. Highly disappointing, I expected better customer service.

It was a buffet. But the choice was rather limited. They were offering dried up beef or dried up pork. There was mint sauce but no apple sauce. The meat was really inedible. The roast potatoes were awful, The chef needs to read a cook book and make them properly. This was our big family Christmas meal hosted by my parents and cost a huge amount of money for all of us. For the cost I expected much, much better. We have been to the Celtic Manor many times and the quality of the staff is deteriorating rapidly. Today was again pretty poor. Except for the ladies guarding the entrance to the hotel bar, they were actually very helpful. The one shining light, and the reason I have given 2 stars rather than one was the dessert section. That was very good.

we came for afternoon tea with santa today. The Children we're so looking forward to the event, however, it was absolutely terrible. Firstly, while we were eating our sandwiches we we're asked to go and see santa, meaning the children had to leave their food. On entrance to the room, the elderly gentleman helping Mrs Claus, forgot to tell the children to post their letters. Resulting in all the excitable children clambering to get their letters in the post box first. Then, when Mrs Claus had finished the story she made it clearly visible that she was turning on the radio to signal Santa's arrival which totally ruined the magic of Christmas and santa for the children. I don't understand why same the gentleman who forgot the post box aspect of the event couldn't have the radio, it would have been far better concealed from the children, as the focus was on Mrs Claus reading. Upon Santa's arrival, the children had no time at all with him, they were seen in groups if they had siblings, Santa made no attempt to read the name badges which had been given I assume for that very purpose. I was only given enough time to take one photo as a group before the next group was ushered in, subsequently pushing my children out the way signalling our time was up. Needless to say all my children we're disappointed, asking why santa didnt talk to them. Back at our table the children didn't want to eat their sandwiches as the bread had began to harden, the tea was cold and we sat waiting for our scones. The time at this point was now 3:50pm. My partner and I waited for 10 minutes watching waiters serve all the tables around us; 6 tables at this point, as most people had left, while we repeatedly were overlooked. Nobody came to take away our empty plates nor ask of we were ok. My partner polietly asked a waitress if we could have our scones, she said she would try. However 10 minutes later we both watched her cleaning away tables and ignoring us. It was at this point my partner decided to just pay the bill. The manager at the till asked if everything had gone well, my partner advised the service had been slow. The manager at this stage gave an unenthusiastic apology and said she would try to box up some scones herself for us. Another 10 minutes later and still nothing, no boxes, no scones to the table, just waitress' clearing tables ready for the next lot of customers. Eventually, we were served two baskets of scones by a gentleman who asked if we had received any, I advised him no but we have asked to have them boxed up if possible. This man walked away from me without even acknowledging I had spoken to him. I have never been treated so rudely at a restaurant, and after waiting over 25 minutes at this point for some boxed scones with 3 disappointed children, I was less than impressed with the entire event and service. Lastly the manager that my partner had told the service was poor came with the scones, but no jam or cream. She left saying she would see if she could get some from the kitchen, and took the ones from the table away. Why you would box scones without jam or cream I don't know, but we waited thinking it couldn't possibly take that long to get some jam and cream. How wrong I was! Another 10 minutes later with the children growing ever more restless as the waitress' continued to prepare for the next session watching us as we were clearly 'hanging around'. We gave up waiting and left at just gone 4:30pm without jam or cream, with 3 disappointed children and 2 very upset adults. The whole situation can only be described as a shambles of service which fell very short of expectations, and most definitely not value for money. I am beyond disappointed that such a reputable establishment such as the Celtic manor provided such a terrible service, took our money knowing we were disappointed, chose not to make any effort in putting things right, but further exasperated a bad situation. This has left us with a very bad feeling, we've been left feeling unimportant as customers, taken advantage of, and forgeten about. Bear in mind this cost us over £100 to receive such poor service. Yet when we complained we were told thanks for the complaint see you next time. SHOCKING! There'll be no next time. This event got canceled before for poor service seems they haven't improved Thier service.

This is not, by any means, a restaurant of 5* quality nor is it worthy of its high price tag. The food wasn’t just bad it was actually disgustingly unpalatable in some instances. Stayed here mid week and initially wished to dine at steak on six, but closed, Pad, closed etc. So not many options to dine on site but this one. The tomato soup was actually used as a pasta sauce in another station at the buffet. The Waldorf salad was vile and tasted as if the ingredients had gone off. The rest of the salad section stank and tasted of rank fish ( which was at another station so any guesses why). Other selections that were way, way below standard were some extremely dry, overly spicy noodles. Dry, gloopy pasta. A chewy, beef gloopy mess of a dish. So basically anything we tried from this buffet was awful. I would have much more enjoyed a McDonald’s or just some paltry service station sandwich than all this. They really need to sort this restaurant out as it was unacceptably shocking food for such a resort. We did complain after and thankfully they didn’t charge us for the food.

We have been coming here for years as group for Sunday Lunch and alway have had a great meal but last Sunday we came at 1.30pm and there was hardly any Starters left and not being refilled the selection was very poor, main course I was only offered 1 piece of Beef and had to ask for another the roast mixed root veg were so hard the were non-eddable and the roast potatoes were soggy. The selection on the hot plate was poor too. As for the desserts by 3pm there was no hot puddings left or Gateax’s and not much else and when we asked staff to replace them we were told there was No More to put out . Some people in the restaurant had only just come for there meal and the desserts were empty. We will therefore not be returning appalling !!!!

Food totally out of keeping with expectations for Celtic Manor on a first trip. Evening meal buffet and then breakfast. Mediocre at best. The breakfast 'free from' table was pitiful. A few pieces of bread, some marge, milk, yoghurt and cornflakes. Had much better at premier inns. Ambience wise, a cross between eating at an airport (similar parking prices) and motorway services. No sense of quality at all.

A group of us stayed at the resort, choosing the dinner and bed and breakfast deal. Dinner was in the Olive Tree restaurant on site, and consisted of a hot buffet, with starters, mains and desserts. The drinks took 20 minutes to arrive. Starters included mussels and smoked salmon and were fresh and well flavoured. Some of the food sampled from the main buffet were not so enjoyable. The cauliflower cheese was mushy to the point the cauliflower formed part of the sauce, the gnocchi (described as “hand rolled”) resembled green mash potato in look and texture and lacked much flavour. Nothing resembling an Italian dumpling here and not a lot to suggest fine dining.Apart from the sprouts, the vegetables offered appeared to be a cooked bag of frozen veg- those tasteless baby carrots that you get from most supermarkets. Dessert offered a number of choices, and the cheese board was varied and good. Service was basic although it was a buffet so I’m not sure if this was an issue or not but we certainly didn’t feel it warranted a service charge. Particularly when the bill was rather fictitious when it came to our drinks.... which took so long that most of us had finished starters.

We are local and do eat at the Celtic manor a few times during the month. Today was very interesting, kids screaming, running around unsupervised and appeared to be uncontrollable. We also had wasps chasing us around inside and constantly landing on the food, we did tell the staff who tried to swat the wasp but to no avail. It really ruined the experience as we were constantly trying to avoid being stung. Ended up leaving quite a bit of the food because we were unable to relax at all. All in all we spent 30 minutes there and charged 70 pounds for the the privilege. We won’t be returning to the Olive tree which is a shame as the staff are fantastic.

Purchased a voucher online back in February for myself and my partner to enjoy a spa day and afternoon tea, everything was good until we got to the olive tree restaurant. I thought thr staff were very unorganised and seemed like they didn't know what they were doing. We ordered vegeterian sandwiches and it went to the wrong table which wasn't much of a problem but could see other things going wrong as well with the other guests. As we went to leave after our food one of the staff handed me a bill, I told him I had already paid online back in February, he said it was probably just a reservation I said no that's not right. Another member of staff took me to another desk to check, she also asked me for my voucher code (which I thought this should of been asked before even entering the restaurant) rather than trying to charge what was already paid afterwards! All turned out to be ok so we left and came home. Not the best experience and probably won't return. Expensive for bad service.

I booked a table of 15 for afternoon tea at the Olive Tree at Celtic Manor. The staff were patient and attentive, taking time to ask everyone individually what they'd like to drink and if they had any dietary requirements to ensure the order was correct. We were given two bottles of complimentary prosecco which was a lovely surprise, and the ladies who weren't drinking were given amazingly posh non alcoholic cocktails, which looked lovely and tasted great. This was a nice touch as you often non-alcoholic alternatives aren't offered. The afternoon tea itself was delicious and very generous, there was plenty for everyone. Cake boxes were offered to allow us to take what we couldn't manage home. We spent a good few hours there and weren't rushed. All of the staff who served us were brilliant - particularly our main server Custodio who was helped by Brett, Body, Beth and Arejija. Although the food quality was good, and the waiting staff were attentive I would not return. The music was so loud and cheesy it really set my teeth on edge.. I pass the Newport M4 junction often, and have always thought Celtic Manor was an ugly building on the outside; but knowing that it was a 5 star hotel and that Obama stayed here I'd hoped it was better inside. With an approach through an underground car park and then a warren of corridors and lifts the general impression is oppressive, ugly 80s decor. The 'Olive Tree' felt like a foyer, 3 storeys in height, more like a shopping mall and certainly not a 'garden room'. It's an enormous area full of empty tables in a kind of banqueting suite. The only attractive area of the restaurant that looked out onto green trees (featured on the hotel website as 'the olive tree' ) was closed off. Our table was cramped when the tea arrived, and at over £70 for 3, I would have expected a table cloth.

Visit again, Breakfast have improved . But the evening Dinners are just awful. We visited Tuesday evening, we booked our table for 7pm when it opened. When we arrived they where still finishing putting the food out, (no issues there as it means everything is fresh for when we are seated). We was shown to our table....... Went up for soup.. COLD!!, so went for the salad which was pleasant. Went round to the mains and everything just looked overcooked and dry (most of it was covered in sauce aswell!!) went for a roast sat down started eating .....COLD. Couldnt belive it,we was the first people in the restuarant. They was only serving about 20 people as they had a big IMI conference happening so it was so quiet. How can the food be so wrong yet still want to charge £35 per head and also put a service charge on top of this. My partner barely ate any of hers and just opted for a few desserts. The only person who really ate was our daughter as she had just fruit and she ate for free! going by the reviews we arent the only people who are having this problem. It was similar issues when we came before, but gave it the benefit of doubt this time as we thought it could/should have improved. how worng we was and left feeling very out of pocket and also left a bad taint on our final night of a very enjoyable stay.

We booked here on Boxing Day for the buffet. It is grossly overpriced and they have the cheek to add a service charge! However, the main complaint is the quality of the food and the mess around the ice-cream machine. Starters (fresh tomatoes, etc.) were OK but nothing more. The vegetables were awful - the carrots, for example, were recognisable only from their colour; I also didn't know that it was possible to have so much fat on turkey. The staff were very dilatory at checking the various offerings. The desserts were mixed, with the main complaint being the mess around the ice-cream machine, including on the floor.

Had Sunday lunch here today. Despite booking for a toddler, no high chair was at our table on arrival. One was duly brought, unfortunately it was filthy. Cleaned by the waitress at our request.

Have stayed at the Celtic manor hotel a few times and on every occasion I have had an excellent breakfast at the OliveTree restaurant. Good selection of items, all fresh cooked, attentive table service for teas, coffees, etc

Utterly shambolic. Meat stone cold & plate running with blood. Run out of vegetables after queuing for almost 10 minutes.then had to search for gravy. Person carving roast beef using his fingers, and was reluctant to give 2 slices as he stated they were running out.

Let us start with breakfast. This is the default breakfast location for guests at Celtic Manor Resort and so is understandably busy. However, that doesn't excuse the frequency with which they run out of crockery, or the cold food. Staff just don't pay enough attention to the buffet stations (how can you run out of bowls at breakfast?) and when they do they get it wrong - I saw one server throw more mushrooms into a full tureen of them, which was astonishing enough even before I discovered that even the new mushrooms were cold!

Tea leaves, ample choice and varied.Latte ordered and requested to 3 different members of staff before it arrived 20 minutes after asking! Tartlets, sandwich’s,cakes and scones delicious. Prosecco was equally hard to get. So,tea very good, service very poor.

A pleasant afternoon tea. Excellent service from each member of staff who saw to us throughout. They were a highlight to the afternoon. A good selection of leaf teas available. The savoury and sweet selection were very much enjoyed and a nice variety. I recommend the prosecco which was lovely.

Food was very nice and there was a good varied selection. Roasted meats, asian section, Italian section, cold meats, good fish choices too. The table service though was a little hit and miss. Waited a long time for drinks on a couple of occasions and yet they still put a service charge onto the bill.

If you are ok with buffet eating then the olive tree is OK for you. The food quality is reasonable.

Found the staff helpful but inexperienced. The food was just ok. Tables left with used plates and glasses on them. Not what I expected for a 5 star hotel.

We ate here while staying at Celtic Manor Resort. Plenty of hot and cold choices. Service good. Lots of tables to choose from so didn’t feel crowded. Nice to be able to go outside when you had finished and enjoy a drink.

The buffet was surprisingly good and fresh and well replenished. Many guests we encountered the days before complained about the lack of refreshment of the buffet but to a man all twelve of the group had a very good dining experience

This is the main breakfast and 'go to' restaurant in the hotel used for mainly buffet service - food is very good and varied although ideally I would have liked to see a fresh breakfast prep area for omelettes etc as in many other 5* establishments. But that does not say what is provided is not good, as it is, just that other UK and foreign resort type hotels offer that in their Buffet restaurants. It can be very busy but that is explained in the hotel with a guide to best and busiest times to take breakfast

Do not eat at this restaurant, if you are planning on having a DBNB pay the extra and eat somewhere else at the hotel. If you are on a BNB only, go to McDonalds or find a Toby Carvery.

This is a very large restaurant, with lost of buffet style dishes on offer. Some were a little dry and the roast potatos resembled soft bread rolls on the night I was there. However the choice is many and varied, so there is bound to be something for everyone.

The room is large, which includes the Garden Room. Friendly staff show you to your table where the tea or coffee is brought to you. There is such a large choice of food for breakfast, and you can have as much or little as you wish. The food is fresh cooked and very tasty. Plenty of staff available if you need help, anything cooking. They cater for all tastes. Thoroughly enjoyable.

“Mediocre at best tonight” describes both the food on the hot buffet and the service received. Starters were ok and deserts very good. Main course veg was very obviously frozen not fresh. Cauliflower so hard (undercooked) that my knife failed to make an impression, yet the broccoli was cooked to within an inch of its life. Nobody came to ask if we were happy with everything. The coffee was no more than partially coloured warm water. When we asked for it to be replaced they came to try and “top up the cups”! When we refused that and insisted on fresh coffee in a fresh cup, it was delivered without milk, cream or sugar. It seemed that staff were then avoiding my eye, and I had to go and ask at the desk for sugar. Could it be because Terry Matthews was also in the restaurant with a group of people? Not at all what you expect from that establishment, and to be fair, not what you usually get. We praise them when good so it’s only fair to criticise when it’s justified. They did remove the service charge from the bill. Restaurant staff also made notes of the dissatisfaction, let’s see what they suggest. I hope they respond accordingly.

They got our table for 8 booking wrong and then tried to squeeze us on a tiny table despite showing our e mail confirmation of a table for 8. The waitress apologised and tried to get the restaurant manager to move us but he told her to give us some extra chairs. we stated this was not good enough so the waitress returned to him. He left us waiting for 15 mins just standing there before he then decised to bring the extra table which he was standing next too for the whole 15 mins.

Stayed at the manor, a respectable 5* hotel let down by this atrocity. Firstly let me just say that this hasn't been my first stay but it was by first time having dinner at this restaurant. Breakfast is also served here and is normally a decent standard but dinner has a long way to go.

Excellent venue for events, I can't comment on the rooms, service or the food as I set up for a party but the staff were very friendly. It has a split level stage area lost if seating.
