Olive and Bean in Newcastle upon Tyne

Staff are lovely and I was seated quickly. The Breakfast was really nice , a very huge portion although I could not finish it all. I got a biscoff milkshake, I only realised when I started drinking it that it had banana in it which I don’t really like but the milkshake was still nice.

Sunday Brunch was amazing... great choices and reasonably priced. Breakfast burrito was fantastic.

A nice cute cafe. It was very busy when we visited so there was a wait and then we shared a communal table. Staff seemed a bit rushed and flustered. They had ran out of a few things which held up the delivery of food as we had to change our order. We were served by at least 3 different people which led to some confusion. No wifi which was disappointing as there was little to no signal in the cafe. Cakes and sweet treats all looked delicious and the lemon poppy seed was tasty Sandwich / panini was average. Chai latte was not good. A tea bag floating in milk with no flavour. Iced tea was better.

The food was cold , service poor, would not recommend.

Had a good breakfast here, big portion of french toast with a good amount of fruit and chocolate, and the breakfast burrito also decent. Reasonably busy, even for a Sunday morning, and plenty of staff with good service. Cakes to take out looked very good, so will have to be back to try some of those

Visited today for the first time. We were told to wait in the front section for a table but we were told to move multiple times which was frustrating. We waited quite a while for the table and we could hear staff moaning about their job etc. The staff were also quite rude at times. I asked for water 3 times and it took a significant amount of time to actually get it. That being said, the food is lovely and the coffee is great. Shame about the service and the toilets are also very dirty.

We came here today for breakfast for the first time and will be back. The food was great and excellent service. Amazing selection of cakes and tray bakes too!!

Sweet place located right next to the shopping centre! Drinks and food do take a little bit to arrive but it's worth it - the presentation is really nice. Staff are pleasant, helpful and nice to talk to, another review said they're careless, that simply isn't true. I was approached to order almost immediately and they asked how it was. Prices are fairly good, don't be fooled by some of the dessert sizes, they're quite dense! 10/10

One of my favourite cafes in Newcastle city centre. Their specialty coffees are a bit pricy but totally worth it for a novel experience. Generally relaxed ambience and great service overall.

Horrible service at this place. The sta ff have no interest in customer satisfaction. Orders were taken wrong and we waited 45-60minutes at least for a bagel and sandwich which was served cold.

The food is great, but the service is often poor. We walked out today due to the poor service. Seems to be worse when sat upstairs.

Fine as a very standard cafe but really nothing to write home about, not very intimate and comparatively slow service but has a fairly broad menu (though nothing was made overly yummy)

Lovely cafe cum restaurant. Very popular. Had some amazing cakes to either eat in or take away.

Friendly staff, always willing to help. All food freshly prepared and very tasty .Never been disappointed every time we've visited.

Had the half soup/half sandwich option. Very nice chicken mulligatawny soup and the beef and gherkin baguette. Have visited several times and never disappointed

Great spot in Newcastle for snacks and breakfast. Great coffee and one of the earliest opening in order to refuel on Sunday mornings. Service from a well staffed team was prompt and with a smile.

Amazing cake! We go every week. Staff are extremely pleasant, specifically a dark haired young woman (sorry we dont know her name) who always seems to be in when we are. She is so polite and really makes our day! Will definitely be returning and cannot recommend enough. Just make sure you get there in enough time as seating is quite limited on the bottom floor.

Good food but Gluten Free Beware! I went here with a friend as it was recommended to us and was attracted by the possibility of the option of gluten free toast (I am gluten intolerant). I ordered the avocado and eggs with gluten free toast. When our order came to the table I thought my bread looked remarkably like normal bread so I asked the waitress "this is gluten free bread, right?". She answered "yes". After one bite of it though I knew immediately it was normal bread so I asked another waitress who said "no that's the sourdough". They made me a new one with gluten free but sadly too late for me having had a bite. Now I'm having an extremely painful workday. So don't risk it, or make sure you triple check with different members of staff what's on your plate... 🤔

Gingen voor een echt Engels ontbijt met baked bacon, beans, mushrooms etcetera. Viel zwaar tegen het was Streaky bacon en geen bonen ook was het koud binnen.

It was very busy - we were seated as soon as possible- about 10 mins wait. The staff were lovely - thank you.

Went for brunch and the venue was very busy but turnover was fast. Front of house staff are great and food is amazing

The long queue outside at lunchtime showed how popular Olive & Bean is. The food is very good with a varied menu to suit all tastes. Many of the dishes are veggie and vegan friendly, there is a large selection of cakes and the coffee was lovely. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Excellent, faultless food and drinks, sadly let down by a minority of staff members who were extremely rude and patronising when simply requesting to move to a bigger table due to wanting large food order. Several tables were available and we had not had our order taken at this point, by which time we had been seated for nearly 30 minutes. Highly recommend the stuffed eggy bread, iced coffees and breakfast burrito. However it will be difficult to justify a visit again sadly due to the poor attitude of some staff (the rest were genuinely lovely. Mainly Sarah who is part of management, she is so friendly and welcoming).

I really can't fault the food, it's always lovely but the service is painfully slow.

Food was great. It did take 45 minutes from ordering to the food turning up, but that was probably just because it was breakfast on a Saturday. It was also quite noisy, but probably the same reason. I'll probably be back if I'm in the area maybe.

Long wait for coffee, which was only one drink for me. Staff just chatting while I was sat waiting for them to start making my drink. Place wasn’t even that busy, wasn’t exactly quiet to be fair. Drink was fine, place was clean and tidy.

Busy as always. Love their homemade soups. However, soup could have been hotter.

Food was awful, my panini was mostly cheddar, even though I ordered the chicken, bacon, cheddar and chilli jam panini. Service was nonexistent, we waited 30 minutes to order and the staff only approached us because they wanted us to move tables and that's when we asked if we could order. If it wasn't for that we would have waited much longer to order food Nobody asked if we had food allergies. Nobody asked how the food was either

Food was really good, however do not expect a friendly welcome from staff. Staff need to learn customer engagement. However well done food was really good.

The service was atrocious, we waited 15 minutes for someone to come to our table after going inside and alerting them that we were waiting. We ordered coffee and cake and waited a half hour for it to arrive, when we asked about the time we received no apology. I have a nut allergy which I informed them about and they brought me the wrong order which had nuts in it and didn't apologise when I pointed out the mistake. Overall, the food was nice but I would never come back.

Excellent find - staff were lovely, couldn’t be friendlier! Breakfast was great, coffee even better and reasonably priced. Quite busy which is a good indicator of how well it’s liked by the locals…outdoor seating available too for those nicer days.

Great food, especially the cakes! The seating is pretty cramped, but the desserts are worth being squashed in for.

Sorry, 2 slices of bread, a little chicken, bit of lettuce, a slice of tomato, half pack of 2nd rate plain crisps, a spoonfull of coleslaw and a latte, x2, do not qualify fora bill of £22, totally disgusting price for what was on offer.

Normal Coca Cola is not available, only diet cola. They then include crisps with every meal option and supply cutlery to every table in used treacle containers. I’d prefer normal coke with sugar than Diet Coke with cancer related artificial sweeteners. Dictators.

We had a delicious breakfast- the veggie bagel was very tasty. General cleanliness could be improved and would suggest only use the toilets if you absolutely have to.

Came across this lovely place when I was looking for something to eat ..... lovely food, I had salmon and avocado on sourdough and it was lovely.....would recommend to anyone and will definitely go back when I'm next in Newcastle 😊

Nice interior with good coffee and soft drinks. Didn't have any food but it looked good. Shame about the location though. Only criticism is the lack of attentiveness the staff showed to tables by checking if eveything was okay. Thankfully it was but for someone else it could have not been.

Delicious coffee & food - the waffles were super yummy but it's a big portion so could easily be shared if you have a smaller appetite! Oat milk available and lots of vegan options too which is great to see. Staff were also really friendly and accommodating. One small note - we needed a VAT receipt but were told the till system didn't provide receipts showing VAT. It would be great to see this provided in future!

I had forgotten just how good this joint is, having not visited for several years (I don't hit town for eateries a great deal). There was quite a wait at the door to be seated whilst decks were swabbed this Good Friday lunchtime. Thankfully table service and ultimately grub delivery to us was absolutely not a life draining experience. Dad and I scored easily prepared tuna butties and panini's, but they tasted ace. It's not ultra cheap but still very respectfully priced overall for sure. It was full of punters and remained so during our munch time. It's been around a while now so give it a try if you're central.

Has alot of charactor, staff are lovely, food decent. Plenty of cakes/brownies to choose from and they all look delicious! Quite busy but I'd go back nice and relaxing.

Didn't know this existed, thought it was just a deli selling upmarket food and drink. It was only on the off chance that we popped in and realised it was a cafe, I must say we had one of the best breakfasts ever. Breakfast is served until 11.30am and is well worth a visit, we will definitely be back. They also serve vegan and vegetarian dishes,

Really good food, however, there is no ventilation upstairs. We asked to have a window open, but they were all painted shut.

I enjoyed having a vegatarian sausage and mushroom sandwich in the Olive & Bean and the staff were lively there.

If you're thinking about getting the bacon and mushroom pannini... Think again! Worst bacon sarny I've ever had.. And it cost 6 quid!

I knew it was going to be good when I saw a line of people waiting in the rain on Sunday afternoon to get a table. We had great toasted sandwiches and a decent pot of tea. A really good all rounder and no silly prices either. A definite on my must go again list.

One of Newcastle’s hidden gems: it’s one best coffee shop in town (with a range of four filters, and they’ve just started roasting their own!), there’s always a tasty cake on hand, and brilliant conversation. Great for work or a chat.

Wow, this place is incredible. Possibly the best breakfast I've had since birth to date. The feta cheese with pear and sour dough bread...I've had sweet dreams ever since. Highly recommended. It's a breakfast place mostly but I'd happily do breakfast lunch and dinner here all day every day

Called in mid morning for a tea and cheese scone. Got the scone warmed up but it was too hot and micro waved. In future I think they should use an oven to warm it up or asked if you want it toasted, which in retrospect I would have preferred. Fast service and polite staff thou.

Decided something thing different from starbucks. In the morning thought I'd try this place. 1st impressions were really good place looks quirky very clean plenty of good seating outside down stairs and up stairs. Staff very friendly well dressed in uniform. when entered everything looks well stocked and cleaned. Also very easy access if your disabled Toilets were emulate and again well stocked with toilet paper and loo roll. Although they were up stairs not sure if they have disabled toilets on ground floor. Coffee was a little over priced but not by much of your comparing prices to local cheap places. however probaly one of the best raspberry mochas I've had. And worth the price. Food was absolutely pefect had the eggs royale cooked to pefection well presented and sauce was delicious. Can't wait to cone back here try out more of there food and coffee. Overall can't fault the place although little more expensive than other places if your on a budget if your looking for high quality food and coffee that u would get from top restaurants then Come here very reasonable price if your comparing this place to higher well known establishments. great value for money for what u get and quality of food and coffee is second to one definitely be coming vback and if you not poped in yet u need to you won't be disappointed

Had a lush lunch here. Recommended by our daughter who had been before. Staff were lovely and service was great. Reasonable price and lovely and clean. Very busy and small downstairs but there's an upstairs and you can sit outside or takeaway aswell. Would highly recommend.

Had a lovely gluten free open sandwich and cake from here both absolutely gorgeous. The selection of gluten free food is brilliant, I will be going back the next time I'm wanting some lunch when in the centre of Newcastle.
