This is a bit of an obscure bar in a hotel with some really good food - especially Malaysian food. Quick and good service in a nice environment.

I did not complain at the time as I was a guest, but the food was well below average, I ate fish cakes and Nasi goreng, and they were both probably the worst examples I have ever eaten And to be charged !11.25 for a glass of wine is astronomical, The restaurant manager (Hungarian,i did not catch his name!) was probable the most unfriendliest person I have ever met Not a great evening!

The talented pianist at the entrance welcomed us inside the restaurant with the melodies of live classical music. The employees were friendly and respectful in general. The chicken with the curry sauce was one of the best ones that I've ever tasted. The only thing I really found strange was the waitress' attitude while seeing the cloth napkin positioned according to another country's table etiquette instead of British. She stood besides me with a strange look on her face without saying anything and waited for me to take the napkin to my laps to serve the hot plate, with an impatient body language. Such attitudes cannot be ignored.

Advertised as authentic Malaysian cuisine and priced accordingly, however, I ordered beef rendang and I can assume the traders that it was below par. Served lukewarm and lacking any real biting spice it would at the bottom of these dishes that I have eaten over the past forty years in my travels. On the plus side, the service was great, maybe even too over the top, so I would write it off on my one experience.

I decided I would order the Nasi Goreng which is one of my favourite meals. I have eaten this all over the world and can award this the medal for the worse one I have ever had! No flavour, no spice even though it was marked as 2 chillies which was medium hot. I also ordered a glass of wine which I had to ask for again. It said on the menu it came with dried shrimp which is what it should be. One dried shrimp! The service was poor and the staff did not know what they were doing. Maybe some support from the management would be good. The table next to me were asked if they would like a desert? The response was "we are still waiting for the main course". Need I say more?

Thought we would try the hotel restaurant as we were staying here. Big mistake, advertised as Malaysian specialities this is what we decided to have. Spring rolls were very stodgy and chilli jam not very chilli-i. The chicken satay was slightly better but quite sweet. Do not under any circumstances order the speciality dish, stir fried flat rice noodles with prawns or chicken, it was greasy, sweet and very mild. The lamb curry wasn't much better either. Restaurant ambience is quite good but air con is fierce, staff were very good, shame about the food.

We arrived for a lunch break. In my opinion, the staff was surprised to have customers. It took about 10 minutes to seat us in a empty restaurant. Things went north after that. After around 20 minutes after we arrived we managed to order. 30 minutes after that we got the order. In a short hour i had a tasteless soup, my wife had french fries without the side dish. We left utterly disappointed. We were charged for the full meal, even though not delivered to us. Chance of return = slim to none.

This was my second visit here for afternoon tea. The experience this time was far better than previously, due perhaps to the fact that it was a weekday afternoon and hence very quiet but also to the hospitality of the restaurant captain Emily Paczos who was not only very helpful but utterly charming and could not do enough for us. As we were very early, we managed to secure the best table in the restaurant - next to the window in the conservatory, overlooking Hyde Park. We were shown a brand new smart-looking menu folder (previously it was a nondescript card) which listed all the different teas they have available - an impressive selection. The food was good - brought out on the usual three-tier cake stand. There was a choice of 3 types of finger sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream, topped off with a selection of small cakes and macaroons. We also had a glass of unexpectedly good sparkling wine each. If you were feeling particularly hungry, you could order extra helpings for a surcharge. Service was attentive without being obtrusive - we were asked at intervals if we wanted more tea, but left in peace to linger for over 2 hours at our table. For the price I paid (via a discount voucher), this was extremely good value. At full price, I think I would have thought twice about coming, but to be fair, their prices are comparable with other hotels in central London offering afternoon tea. Here, you also get a pretty setting overlooking Hyde Park and excellent service from the lovely Ms Paczos and her staff.

My wife paid for a voucher online and we battled our way to the hotel to sample some Malaysian cuisine; we shouldn't have bothered: it was not only a gross misrepresentation of anything Malaysian, it was an insult. The decor is adequate but looks a teeny bit tired. We were greeted pleasantly and seated with menus. Angela kicked off with satay chicken which, though the chicken was tender the sauce was dark, peppery and minus any taste of peanut; my starter was tiger prawn satay: they were just ordinary prawns and the texture and tastlessness made me suspect that it had just exited a microwave, and as for the sauce, it was too dark and spicy without any hint of peanut - horrible. Angela then embarked upon char kway teow with chicken; it was so dark that it proved that soya sauce had been poured over it, and it was totally inedible - and this was supposedly their signature dish! -. I endeavoured to eat my nasi goreng with chicken and shrimp; again, it was too dark proving that soya sauce had been used in abundance in a mistaken compensation for flavour and rightful seasoning, consequently it proved tasteless, and the silly fried egg on the top was no way Malaysian - I could barely eat a quarter of it. And the only reason I did eat any of it was because I was damned hungry! To exacerbate matters, the service was awful: our main dishes - such as they were - took twenty-five minutes to arrive. And the coffee I had ordered would never have reached our table if Angela hadn't reminded them. They did apologise but sadly admitted that they had forgotten about my coffee. If we had been paying full price, I would have been justifiably angry. We had stayed in Malaysia for nearly seven weeks and sampled most of their dishes, including their infamous laksa - which, for some is quite an acquired taste - as it can prove sour on the palate. I can tell you now, the rubbish we were served last night was NOT authentic Malaysian and, in all honesty, couldn't be classified AS Malaysian cuisine. On this experience of service and food, I wouldn't recommend this eatery to my worst enemy. I sincerely hope that the management will treat this review as a constructive critcism and make improvements - they need to.

In spite of the fact that there were roughly as many people serving as there were eating, on this occasion service seemed to take the waiting staff by surprise. I, along with all other guests, suffered from the painfully slow service and the fact that half the menu wasn't available because of, and I quote, "the delivery boy going to the wrong hotel".Ordered one of the Malaysian curries, which I'm fairly sure came straight out of the microwave. Fortunately I ordered a Malaysian flatbread to accompany my curry (and I use the word fortunately loosely, as what appeared was more vegetable oil than bread) since otherwise I would have been paying a few pennies shy of £15 for roughly a Heinz soup tin's worth, both in size and flavour. If I ever stay at this hotel again, I'll be making the trip to subway for a sandwich.

My friend found out about the Frank Sinatra evening and we decided to go. The booking was a long and hard process, to start we were going to be 4 and after I managed to change the date of my committee meeting we changed it to 5, after a long holding on so far so good. I noticed that the singer will start at 20.30 and we were booked for 19.0h so we thought lets come at 20.0h we phoned in the morning to change the time and were told that we did not have a booking in the first place, so we booked for 5 and when we came in the evening were told that there was only a booking for 4, they made out it was quite full and tried to sit us in the back room by the window, a long way away from the piano and the singer, we said no we want to be near the singer and was told he would not start until 10 or 11, he had greeted us on the way in. Two of us came early and sat and had a drink and one asked for a glass of wine and said she wanted the bottle to be put in an ice bucket and to be brought later to the table, we got a full bottle and pointed out there was an open one waiting at the bar, it was sorted out that one glass was taken off. We got a table near and found 2 menus on the table, the waitress appeared and asked us to order, we said we only had 2 menus and were not ready, she gave us 3 more. There was a Frank Sinatra 3 course deal, not a very large choice but we all found what we liked. She took the order as well as the wine order, she made sure it was the right one and looked it up on the wine list. She brought the wrong one but as it was compatible, nothing was said, the starter took about 45 minutes to arrive, the food was well presented and we enjoyed it. The main course came, there were 2 steaks with different sauces, the wrong one was given, they swapped it, so far so good, we enjoyed the main course it was well cooked and presented and whilst we still had the dirty dinner plates after we finished the waitress asked us what sweets we wanted. We ordered 4 Apple and Blackberry crumbles, 2 with ice cream, 1 with custard and one with ice cream an custard and 1 Pancake stack with ice cream. The waitress came back and said bad news, we only have 2 crumbles left, we said good we have one with ice cream and one with custard and ice cream, and one more pancakes and the other I think was panacotta or something like that, sorry we have no pancakes. We changed to something else and by now were not too happy. When the sweets came both crumbles came with custard, luckily the custard was separate and it was changed. The singer Paul Toshner made the evening, he took requests from all the guests had only 2 very short breaks during which he put a recording on, he went tireless to all the tables, he played the piano, the mouth organ the accordion and was a treat to listen to. I think without him we would have walked out.The Head Waiter? Manager? came up and apologised to us saying that the booking as well as the kitchen was not under his due restriction and to apologise he would like to offer us a complimentary drink, which we gladly accepted. We stayed an other hour and listen to the music had a little dance, I was asked by a member of staff who looked like in charge of entertainment and the dishes from the sweet were not cleared until we started to leave at 23.30.I enjoyed it as I myself worked as a Manageress and a waitress for 10 years whilst in my 20th and know if you are short of staff, have to use casual staff and have a difficult chef and difficult costumers it is not a picnic. Although the evening (not cheap nearly £230) was not what we expected, Paul Toshner and the free drink made it a fairly good night out.

Came here for lunch the other day and distinctly underwhelmed. Some confusion over where we were supposed / allowed to sit was followed by very average service and some mistakes with the Malaysian food we were having (asked to specify a kind of rice for the nasi goreng when it states it comes with fried rice on the menu, then after specifying biryani rice, we got standard American long grain anyway). The food took an age to arrive and the portions were huge, too big really, but sadly tasteless. The char kway teow was ok, but the nasi goreng was very forgettable, a big bowl of rice with a fried egg on top, you would get the same standard from a cheap takeaway place for a third of the price. The roti canai (flat bread) was nice, but sadly arrived with no dipping sauce (a cardinal sin in any self-respecting Malaysian eaterie). Even with a lunch deal voucher it still felt poor value, we won't be returning. Go elsewhere if you are looking for good Malaysian food.

There was only enough jam and cream for 1 person and there were 3 of us. Two of us did not eat ham or seafood and the sandwiches which came were egg, ham, prawns. I have eaten here on a handful of occasions and have always been impressed with the service and the menu, however on this most recent visit I was unfortunately disappointed. The menu seems to include some more items and the food was still very nice, but the service was poor. They didn't seem to know what to do when we asked for a table for 2 at 9pm, there were no tables ready, the waiter didn'ts speak very good English, he was shocked that we were ordering from the set menu and didn't know what was on there, we waited ages for any bit of service and any course, and there was a great deal of faffing around in order to charge the meal to the room. To add insult to injury, upon checking out this had been completely messed up and the drinks were allegedly on a different bill...but they were unable to produce the signed bill in order to prove this (which they wouldn't have been able to do as it was not true). Compare this to the free drinks and grovelling afforded to a woman on a table next to us who complained that there was "different coloured" meat in her chicken curry (some was breast and some thigh as explained to her but this explanation was not enough and she got another meal plus 2 free drinks for waiting!!!). Seriously unimpressed.

Our first night in London, and the menu looked tasty. Eating the menu would probably have been better than the food we were served. My Tom yum soup was overly salted, then the main dish was served...white rice, with boiled chicken served over slices if raw tomato. Booked afternoon tea as a birthday present for my mum. What a huge disappointment! On arrival our reservations for four could not be found. Once seated in a cold summer room (two of us kept our coats on it was that cold) we were given menus that did not have any details of teas or sandwiches in them. The Champagne arrived and a glass was promptly spilt over my mum. The waitress was indifferent and used our napkins to clean the table, my mum, the menus and the cup dowsed in champagne. I had to ask for another table as our tablecloth was not changed. We were moved to another cold cramped table. We had to ask for the replacement champagne. When asked which tea we wanted and the waitress was told the menus did not contain the options, she stood in front of us opened each menu as if I was lying and then said 'Oh yes'. Three pots of tea arrived, nice large pots, however the teapots were dirty and chipped at the spouts (all three!) including the milk jug. I had to ask for a cup to drink my tea! A cup arrived with no saucer! We asked for a saucer and two side plates were given. I gave up!The sandwiches were nice the cakes mediocre, nothing special. Everything just fell short of expectations. In fact we left most of the cakes. With vouchers we paid less than half prices, however we still felt robbed!Absolutely awful, a complete comedy of errors, which we laughed at but if it had not been for our mother we would have complained bitterly and left after the champagne incident.

Having checked into the hotel after 8 pm we decided to have dinner in the Olio restaurant . The menu looked interesting and we opted for set dinner 2 courses for £26 We ordered around 8.45 and there were only about 6 other diners in the restaurant. It was almost 9.30 however before we got our starters. I had goat's cheese and leek twice cooked souffle which had obviously gone wrong somewhere and was as flat as a pancake and tiny - you could have eaten it in one mouthful. My daughter ordered confit of duck leg with crispy duck crackling , what arrived however was shredded duck (the type you get in Chinese restaurants with pancakes ) and no duck crackling in sight. It was bland and tasteless .For mains I had ordered duck breast and my daughter lamb. The waiter arrived with a duck and a chicken dish ,when we pointed out his mistake he took away the chicken in the meantime I tasted my duck and figured that it might indeed be lamb- so tastless it was hard to tell what it was . After about 5 mins he returned and said that indeed my duck was lamb and that I would have to wait to get the duck. We had already waited so long I said that I'd eat the chicken . It was a plain piece of grilled chicken breast edible , the dauphinoise potatoes that came with it were ok. My daughter's lamb was on a bed of mash which had obviously been microwaved . With this we had a glass of wine each at £7.95!!! ( I think). We did not order desserts after the fiasco of the first two courses. When we got the bill they did give us 20% discount because of the mistake on the order but it was a poor evening all round . We had planned to buy breakfast in the morning but gave it a miss as result.

We decided to eat there as it was close to our hotel and the menu looked good at the first glance. However, when we entered the service personnel was not well trained and could not give us any advice about the food. We ordered Asian style food and my dad had spring rolls. When asking for soya sauce the waiter said he had to double check if it was available. After 8 minutes the spring rolls were cold and there was no sight of the waiter. We then asked again for the sauce and had to wait another 5 minutes until it came. No need to mention that the food was cold. I had a shrimp salad which was probably the most loveless food I have ever tasted. The marinade was just simple sweet source sauce from the supermarket. The worst part of it all was a incredibly bad musician/piano player. Everything he would play was just wrong and when we asked for songs, he would simply play them even more wrong. All in all absolutely not to be recommended

La comida no estaba mal, y bueno y rapido. Estan abiertos de 12 a 22.45 por lo que es muy comodo comer a la hora que a uno le gusta

We went to Itsu in Victoria for lunch. First off, there was nobody at the counter. No staff to be seen.....they certainly weren't cleaning tables! When the staff member came to the till, our order was taken as we were told, 'stay there it's coming'. A few seconds later, our rice pots were brought out. Cold, hard, rubbery awful. We asked for the toilet code and got, 'it's not working' in a 'couldn't care less' manner. The tables were filthy, the floor was filthy, the whole place did not look cared for. I ate a few mouthfuls before binning it and leaving.

I think this place might have closed now. I tried 4/5 to order over the phone then I went down in person but the place was closed. Feel sad that they've closed. Used to enjoy their food

No volveré

I strongly advise to avoid this place...the staff are incompetent. No card payment facility. The ATM didn’t dispense correct cash. The drinks are awful and the food is terrible at best ! Carlton Lounge is much better for Shesha and food and is in a much better setting, this place is more of a make-shift smokers den at the back of your garden...
