Amazing food and ambiance. Good coffee and fresh sandwiches. the staff is very nice and polite. the place was nice and tidy.

We stopped by for a coffee and rest as we were walking around the city. The coffee was great. They also have great bakery items. It is a great place to take a rest.

A great place for lunch. The rolls and sandwiches were delicious and very fresh. The service was fine, the only issue was that the table next to us was not cleared in a timely manner

The staff are always friendly and helpful, and I’ve enjoyed Ole & Steen a few times, particularly the excellent Vegan Mushroom Melt. However, for the winter season, the menu has radically changed so that the only sandwich option is an awful squash sandwich instead. Same ingredients as the mushroom version, but with squash and cranberry sauce replacing mushrooms and truffle oil. Horribly sweet, bad texture, and a removal of an excellent vegan option! (The meat options all seem fairly normal which only makes it more frustrating)

I love the sandwiches/pastries here but really disappointed with poor and slow service. There were 4 people behind the counter. 2 people were waiting for coffee orders and because there weren't any, they were just standing waiting. The other 2 were taking one order at a time and wouldn't take the next order until the whole order had finished (lots of standing and waiting for sandwiches to toast and then even delivering to the tables (whilst the other 2 were standing around). It's 1pm on 27th October and I was there 10 minutes ago so perhaps management need to have a word with those staff working because it's very frustrating to watch when you are on a lunch break. Then when I did receive my toasted mozarella and pesto sandwich, it had been shoved into the bag so it wasn't even a sandwich anymore. Most of the mozarella had clearly slipped out in the cooking process so I was left with mostly bread and tomato. Really disappointed. Not going back unless I receive a free sandwich and the service improves. They really can't charge that kind of money and not train the staff properly.

I have no idea why this place is so popular. The cakes are enormous but are of very poor quality. Got some king size chocolate muffins that tasted of nothing . Everything is heavy , stocky. 0 baking skills. Bread is meh. Not coming back.

What a great service, refreshing to see helpful staff keen to help and greeted with a smile which has been lacking. Very clean café improved recently and tall lady in black with long dark hair made me and my children very welcome. Would recommend 👌

As annual visitors to the UK we have been to this bakery 5 or 6 times in the last three years, both to have coffee and pastries, and also just to buy bread. The in-house experience is pleasant, despite the sub-optimal seating arrangement. Pastries and sausage rolls are consistently good. Staff are friendly and efficient. Yesterday, however, our sourdough bread purchases were a disappointment. Having learned and practiced sourdough bread making over the past year, I regard myself as an experienced adjudicator of fine sourdough. The two loaves, one malted the other plain proved to lack any evidence of sourdough texture and had less character and taste than a standard supermarket loaf. Sadly, the only purpose for which they can be used is very expensive croutons! Was this just an off day? I doubt - since we experienced a similar revelation when we bought bread there last year. But back then we had no basis for comparison. Now we know how real sourdough should feel and taste.

Random queuing meant some folks were missing their turn. Took 7 mins to get to the front of the queue and then place the order and another 8 for it to be made. I get the barrista was under pressure but a “sorry for the wait” would have been appreciated. 15 mins to get a take away coffee is too long.

Every cup , saucer & teapot was chipped. Same on next table.service was slow, and cakes were not all that either. Disappointing

I haven’t been here for a while, it used to be great but everything has deteriorated! Service very slow, disinterested staff. The people sitting at adjacent tables were unhappy too with the quality of the cakes, luke warm coffee, all the china appeared to be chipped. Not a pleasant experience at all, won’t be re visiting, such a shame that this place has gone downhill so much

Ole and Steen HAD been our regular stop, especially cycling near Richmond, but no more. They've shrunk the apple pie so much it is laughable, but the inflated price isn't funny at all. Plus it is difficult to find seating, lots of laptop hogs. Staff aren't particularly friendly either, but the place always seems busy, so maybe others have more money than sense. We now go elsewhere.

Popping in for a quick cake and drink, we came across this busy bakery and decided to sit upstairs. Well it was riddled with student types on laptops wearing headphones - the type that order one drink and then stay there for hours, meaning other customers have nowhere to sit! 4 stars for the food, 2 for the venue/atmosphere.

A delicious spread of varied baked goods. Sandwiches, sweets, and also rustic and plain breads. A great and sure fire stop when visiting.

A variety of fresh bread, sandwiches, pastries and cakes are available. Just from the offset, you can see what Ole & Steen has to offer from the window - prior to walking in. The staff are very helpful, friendly and provide an excellent level of customer service. They are very knowledgable when discussing specific dietary requirements and are happy to listen and advise appropriately to these needs.The cafe has both downstairs and upstairs modern looking seating. The food although slightly more expensive than the average coffee shop - it was of a high quality and was very fresh and delicious. A great place for lunch or to catch up on some work!

It was so cold outside and we were looking for a coffee in a warm place.By chance we tried Ole & Steen and we were positively surprised.They have a large selection of pastry, good coffee and comfortable seats.The only thing could be improved is the espresso........but consider we are Italian, do severe judges for coffee.

Just went in to buy 2 long social slices but everything there looked absolutely delicious. Also had an open prawn sandwich while I was there, made with some of their wonderful bread.

Ordered the New York toastie and for all the ingredients it contained it was tasteless. Style over substance. Could do with a maitre d as heaving and service very slow. However the cakes did look lovely!

First visit to ole and steen on a trip to Richmond. I ordered the cinnamon social after having a small piece of it as a taster on the counter. Really the most delicious moist bun I’ve ever eaten, coffee was good too. I found it pricy at £3.10 for the bun, but really worth it! I brought another 2 for my kids to try when I returned home, they agreed it was the best ever. The only disappointment is there are no Ole and Steen cafes near me!!Recommended

Popped in for a loaf of bread and was served immediately at the counter with a friendly smile and helpful service. The place was crowded with mainly young people enjoying the coffee.

Lovely sourdough bread with avocado and perfect poached eggs. Washed down with a lovely cup of tea. Cant go wrong really. What's not to like?

Went here for a pastry and it was ok. There doesn't seem to be much of a queuing system which is frustrating when busy. There are also shelves by the entry with pastries on them and I watch people let their toddlers go up to them and poke them with their fingers. Absolutely disgusting. Luckily, the pastry we got was taken from a different section, otherwise, I was about to say something about how unhygienic it was. The pasty was ok but nothing special.

We called in at O&S; to get some breakfast on our way to Kew Gardens. We had the power breakfast and it was great and set us up for the day. Well recommended.

After walking back to Richmond from Twickenham after the rugby we wanted a drink and a snack. We were very happy to find this cafe open. We ordered two coffees a chocolate muffin and a pastry. Ordering was easy and the staff were friendly. Prices were also very good.

Having visited Ole & Steen in central London, the Richmond branch did not disappoint food wise. My only criticism would be that the tables which have a very high turnover rate need to be cleared and cleaned more quickly. There were plenty of staff near the counter, so keeping them clean should not be difficult. All in all I recommend this place.

I eat here quite regularly with my friends and enjoy the food it’s good quality and fresh. I was so disappointed to be passing their restaurant with my friends at 8:30 in the evening on Friday 7th June to see a staff member throwing away and sweeping up/ emptying multiple shelves of pastries (100 pastries) into a black bin liner for waste. Richmond upon Thames is one of the most affluent towns in the UK but still has poor underfed homeless people in its population. Me and my friends are GCSE age and still understand that this kind of wastage is wrong, why is the spare product not taken to a shelter or put a sign out and let people eat for free from 6:30... if the only destination for this good food is the bin. Will not eat here again until the waste policy is changed.

Been a few times now and love this place .I think the best coffee in Richmond and the cakes are really good ,try the cinnamon social .staff are really friendly .Gets very busy on the weekends .

Having found this chain in North London, we thought we would give the Richmond branch a try. As before, the cinnamon social was a treat and well worth the visit by itself. We saw some great looking toasted sandwiches during this lunch, the Wiltshire ham and cheese looking particularly appealing, and so thought we might return for lunch after our walk by the river. Sure enough, a couple of hours later we were back! In the end we opted for the carrot soup with ginger, turmeric and coconut (plus a dollop of soured cream and herbs), which came with two slices of their speciality bread which was delicious. The toasted sandwich will have to wait until next time! My only feedback is that the seating areas never look that appealing and I think more could be done to make their décor match the high quality of the food on offer, although Richmond was better than the Bedford Avenue branch in this respect.

Went a couple of times to Ole and Steen during our short visit to Richmond and sampled a number of their baked treats! Focaccia with potatoes was great and the cinnamon social deserves its reputation - really delicious and sticky and perfect with a coffee. The cheesecake was as light as a feather and the chocolate mousse cake was rich and genuinely heavenly. Glad I don’t live anywhere near here as my waistline would be in serious trouble!

I really like the avacodo and other selections on rye they do here. Varied and tasty. Haven’t tasted much else here but the bread is really good and lasts a couple of days.

When you walk into a café, smile and say hello, you don't expect to be scowled at to say the least.... I ordered and because my favourite pastry was missing, endured an awful plastic bun. Coffee and bread is always excellent here, the service can be good, but to be honest there are better places in Richmond with better attitudes such as Paul and the neighbouring Kiss the Hippo

Discovered this after getting off the bus just outside. Really nice lunch with toasties, would recommend for a light bite, lovely food,good staff, nice setting.

Was passing with my gf on the way to the tube. Bought a couple of Danish pastries and stake away coffees. They are just as good as the branches in Denmark and the coffee was top quality.

been few times and always terrible service and the staff is either just rude or just clueless! Few months ago I went to get a brownie and i said i dont want the end of it as i was getting for a work colleague and this guy that was working there said 'oh i cant,has to be in order,i will give you this one is just bigger'..had nothing to do with being bigger,just didnt wanted the ends which they all looked burnt and didnt want to pay so much for a burnt corner of a brownie.I gave it more chances,I even had a sandwich there and even took away few pastries.Is just so chaotic and id rather go to another place than go in there.Yesterday went in and the staff had no idea what sort of pastries they had,let alone that i was waiting there for ages and he went twice to new customers that they were just coming in!I was getting rather annoyed ...just imagine Weatherspoon with very expensive pastries and cakes.There is no system whatsoever and it seems you have to fight to be served.Sometimes there is just 2 people waiting and still seems you have to wait ages to be served and to let them know you want to be served.Oh my God,there are so many better places in Richmond,that I don't want to be put myself through that ever again!AND!so expensive !A pastry slice with just some cinnamon is £3,and don't get me wrong,is nice but go to Pret for same thing at £1.60 without the food being stored next to the floor and feel like a fool by quing up and not being served!My fiance and I went there when they first opened,we thought would be such a nice place and we thought maybe they need a few months to adjust to everything but it got worse.If you never been to one,sure...try it!But very few people would put themselves twice through that.The staff needs retraining ASAP too.

Lovely cafe on Richmond High Street. Spacious, great coffee and great selection of cakes, sandwiches and pattiserie.

We enjoyed a delicious soup, chicken sandwich and coffee. The service system is slow and uncoordinated. We found the tables dirty with the clearing away service poor. For this reason every time I go into an Ole & Steen I end up aggravated despite the lovely baking! The management changed the service ticket system but the new method of queuing is if anything even worse. Maybe LMVH need to send in some top people to sort this out.

A wonderful place to enjoy a cup of coffee and a pastry! The staff is very friendly, which is a nice gesture when you are visiting from another country!

Of course, the baked goods are outstanding. Both presentation and taste. We had to go back for a second cup of the excellent espresso. The barista really knew his business. Definitely worth the trip.

Lovely little pastries, kids had a toastie (not so keen) and a prawn baguette which was tasty.

Although the pastries are er 'rustic' and lack the delicate touch of a pattisserie, this is a popular addition to Richmonds shopping experience.

I'm a local person to the Richmond Ole & Steen. I shop there and buy different breads, sweets and coffee at least twice a week. I can honestly say that I love this bakery and I am so happy that they have come to Richmond so that we can enjoy the beautiful variety of Danish breads. However, there are only three or four members of staff that are very nice and approachable. This afternoon at 6pm I walked in there, ordered a coffee and was waiting for 15 minutes to be served. There was nobody in front of me that I could tell. After 15 minutes, when I said to the person operating the coffee machine that I was waiting for 15 minutes, he started laughing at me. The person who served me was laughing at me too. Soon they were joined by another and the three together started to laugh instead of apologising and serving me coffee.

My wife and I stopped in for a quick bite and a cup of coffee. The bakery had a ton of good looking treats and the sandwiches were very good. The selection could keep you coming back for awhile before getting to the last one. The outdoor seating was nice, so we enjoyed the weather. Great location!

The cakes are delicious and almost irresistible but because the savoury choices always fresh and also delicious, they are also just as appealing. (And we often have both!)

This place is a lot cooler than outside which is why I chose it. The Aircon is a dream. The rpices are pretty standard and the décor is a bit sterile, but that is the Scandinavian look. The truffle lot is sooooo tasty!

Horrible system to serve customers. U need to take ticket and after none respect this. Noisy place and service is whispering numbers. Don’t be bothered to take ticket just come and order. Nothing special. Do not recommend - go to one of the many off street cafes.

Went to purchase some sweet snack for afternoon tea/coffee. Great eats to choose from, the chocolate brownie was particularly rich. The place was not as clean as can be expected around the seating areas, but as we did not sit down, this did not matter.

Fabulous coffee and fantastic cakes, pastries and breads. The staff are so nice and friendly, nothing is too much trouble, looking out on to the street, great place for relaxing and people watching.
