Oldfields fish & chips, congresbury in North Somerset

Absolutely atrocious fish & chips last night - dry and partly brown overcooked fish, parts of batter with no fish inside! As if it was reheated from night before . Appalling. And the soggiest soft mushy chips I’ve ever seen - even the small normally ‘crispy’ bits were soft & bendy! Don’t know how they could have got so awful?? Not a cheap meal either,, had to be thrown away. What is going on Oldfields?? Previous fish & chips have always been great , but I’m afraid last night’s were dire!!!

Fantastic takeaway. Food cooked fresh and is delicious, staff are friendly and helpful. It's worth ordering ahead as it gets very busy.

Classic food, good and easy eating. Made fresh so not sat around. There very quick at getting your order done and we really like to pre order so it’s ready for us to collect.

....asked for skinless cod but got a very thin over cooked hard crumbly portion of fish. The chips were made from potatoes past their best, having shadows and an earthy taste. On the up side the mushy pras were ok. Extremely, extremely disappointed.

We ordered by telephone and the fish and chips were ready when we arrived. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The fish and chips were excellent ! They were delicious.

Appalling service. Took 45 minutes to receive order which was wrong. Preferential treatment was given to particular customers. Nice fish though…

They stated a Friday would be busy, suggested we ordered in advance which we did. The varied choices were provided on time and as per our order. The quantities were good. Well cooked and e cellent taste.

Stopped to get some chips on the way out for the evening. Very tasty, nice and hot. Slight eait as i hadn't preordered. I will another time as I see they have pineapple fritters on the menu.Ten out of ten.

Ordered a veggie burger. Bit into it to discover it was a chicken burger. Apsolutely disgusted that I bit into AND PAID for meat when I don't support the meat industry. Disgusting.

Ordered 1 plaice and ! cod no chips with either. 2 regular cod one large chips, 1 mushy peas had to wait for plaice to be cooked. Called to door when order ready. given one large brown paper bag containing order. Arriving home 5 miles away order completely messed up. Received 3 cod and chips one portion of scampi 1 tartar sauce. Inside bag was a tip slip showing contents of bag and a price similar to what I was charged. Due to distant back to shop we decided to make do with the order, the fish was good far to many chips, scampi passable. (why do fish and chip shops pile so many chips onto an order?). For the order to have been called back to me and the fact I was called forward to collect my order the fact it was incorrect shows staff not interested. It was not as if the shop was busy, only two customer after me. one took their order away. I drove pasted my nearest fish bar, which had a long queue as Oldfield's had a better write up on Trip Advisor. Next time I will use this one . I would suggest more customer care with orders

The cod, mushy peas and curry sauce were excellent and huge portions given that the fish was a 'small portion'. Unfortunately the chips could have done with longer cooking to get some colour on them and maybe a crispy bit. Overall good.

Thank you to the member of staff who went above and beyond to help my elderly mum to enjoy shop bought fish and chips for the first time in quite a few weeks due to lockdown. She really enjoyed them.

We've been coming here for 20 years, and haven't had a bad one yet. Occasionally they are very busy and a few years ago service was very slow, but the fish & chips are always nice. Only complaint we really have is there are not always Clarks pies heated up, which are the best. Great to see them open again after lockdown closure.

This is the most consistent chip shop in the area: always good, ever reliable. The menu isn't anything extraordinary but thr quality is. Tue staff are friendly too which makes for a happy experience every visit.

This has to be my favourite chip shop. The portions are of a really good size and the burgers are really tasty and the chips are great

We had not visited this place in a while as ages ago we had some fish and chips that were very bland. So glad we went back! it was amazing and served in lovely cardboard boxes rather than plastic. Good portions and yummy food. Nice.

Been coming here for years. Always been good till recently. Hard chips. Dry, inedible fish. Order wrong for the second time in a row. The staff they have now (two young girls) unfriendly. Plenty of other fish bars around here. I won’t be wasting another penny on their food, that ends up in the bin!

The quality of the fish and chips is very good and the premises are nice and clean. But unfortunately since reopening the portion sizes seem to of reduced quite dramatically, especially the children's meal. If your child is older than 5/6 years it probably wouldn't be enough.

The food used be really nice 3 year ago !! What the hell have happen , the food is stoned cooled , soggy and under cook !!! Wouldn’t be coming here again!!! This Was last and final time good bye old fields !!!

Called into get some chips just as they were closing. Was greeted very pleasantly as if they only just opened . Excellent service and a huge portion of well cooked chips . Certainly an asset to the village

Fui a por un asador. Absolutamente peor nunca. asados La carne era vista y seco. Las verduras era hecha de brócoli. Y col y guisantes bajo preparado. Patatas sabía a pescado y estaban fríos. Ya no te dan salchichas y bacon con yorkshire y relleno - pero al mismo precio. Cuando les preguntamos por qué nos dijeron que no estaban realizando lo suficiente por porción. Fue la peor comida que he probado. Por favor da una amplia nacimiento. Sitio ha ido cuesta abajo. Mejor ir a yatton asados. Tuve que darle una estrella, pero no valía la pena.

De haber estado aquí varias veces y tenía unos para llevar y servicio. . . mi última visita en noviembre era horrible, así que le dio una amplia nacimiento. . Esta fue mi primera visita desde entonces. . Y por desgracia mi última.. . Me hicieron esperar 40 minutos simplemente para salchichas y patatas fritas. . . Aprecio que tenían problemas con el sistema eléctrico, pero como admitió el corte de dos chicas que trabajan por tu esta noche (domingo), no estábamos seguros de cómo restablecer la Freidoras . . ¿Por qué tienen. Dos personas trabajando que no saben cómo configurar la escasez de energía después de Freidoras .. . . Solía ser un lugar encantador. . .

Teníamos las patatas, bacalao, guisantes blandos y frijoles. El pescado era bonita, pero bajo las luces por un tiempo muy largo. Las fichas donde estaban duros y secos. El servidor detrás del mostrador era grosero y no sonrisa una vez. Las puertas correderas no abra y cierre correctamente. Este lugar ha disminuido mucho.

Nos fuimos a congrebury para conseguir algo de la tienda de la orina al lado de la tienda de chip. . . pensamos ya que no teníamos el almuerzo sin pop en la tienda de chips y comprar una bolsa patatas fritas. . . . entramos y dijo cualquier salchichas maltratada y ella dijo sí 2. . . Nos reímos y dijo. regalos tendremos 2 y una bolsa fuera de patatas fritas. . El dijo de £4. 10 (salchicha pequeña £1. 20 me vaya que es caro, pero me pareció que bond para ser agradable a ese precio. . . . . Bueno, qué puedo decir si había estado más cerca de ellos habría llevado de vuelta fueron las patatas fritas y salchicha maltratadas peor que he comido! ! ! ! . . . Ni siquiera se molestó o a menos que como patatas fritas en seco frío y salchichas bañadas de grasa barato. maltratadas . . . Unbelievably slow and both battered sausages were completely raw in the middle. Would not visit again

A menudo me había pasado este fish and chips en el camino desde y hacia el aeropuerto de Bristol. Pensé que podría parar y probar. No me decepcionó. Empanada bonito, bonito pescado, patatas fritas bien y blanda pease.

Have eaten their fish and chips quite a few and they are ok . well most of the time. Being as we would have to travel some 7 miles for better ones they are convienent.

on route betwixt Langford and Congresbury, also does Sunday roast takeaway.Easy to find good parking spaces.

Long queues made me think it would be better than it was. Also, nowhere to sit inside and only one picnic bench outside by the busy main road

Undercooked frozen fish with soggy batter and virtually raw chips - not conducive to a good night in.

Cooked fresh , more than I could eat, the Cod and chips and Chicken and chips were very good.You can sit outside or take away

My local chippy and glad it is. Everything is nice and freshly cooked with good sized portions. My only gripe is that the service is just so slow.

Excellent quality fish and chips. The haddock is among the best I have ever tasted, which is why I drive well out of my way, and past several other chip shops, to enjoy the food served here.

I was sadly disappointed when I paid a visit to this chip shop at 9.40 tuesday5th May, to be told all you had left was pies. You opening hours are advertised as 5pm-10pm, it also states on your attatched pdf menu that several of your offerings are cooked to order, well apparently this is not the case. If you are not prepared to serve food after set hours shut, remove your opening hours and dont brag that you cook to order when you had no intention of serving me what I wanted. I felt very let down with this service as I have previously enjoyed your food and have even reccomended you to friends and family.

Oldfield's sell great food, and have a large menu to choose from. They also serve carvery for Sunday lunch which is great.

Every time we pass back from weston we pop in for our takeaway tea! The best around even better than most in Bristol.

Not been here for many years. Previously it was poor. I was happy to find that it is now very good. Proper service and quality fish and chips.

Well cooked fish and chips, large portions with good options. Always clean and has friendly staff. Once had large take away order for 50 people, the Manageress could not have been more helpful.

Briilliant love the fish & chips has to be the best chip shop in the local area, its up there with the ones in cheddar!! :)

I tried This fish & chip shop for the first time since it changed hands at the beginning of January. I have since been back twice more. The quality of the fish & chips is top rate and if anything the portion sizes are a bit big. I normally go on a Friday tea time, so there is always a queue. However, I have not had to wait more than ten to fifteen minutes. My only criticism and it is nit picking, is that the queuing system is none existent, so you have to guess when it is your turn. The staff are very friendly and efficient. I hope they keep the standard up as in my opinion it is much better than other local fish and chip shops

Since the chip shop changed hands we have tended to use more often. The fish batter is very good and the chips always taste freshly cooked, the staff are very efficient and will cook some fish to order. They also do a carvery on Sundays but I haven't tried this yet.

Good food with good size portions. It seems busy enough that the turn over of food is reasonably fast so always quite fresh. Nice friendly staff. service can be a little slow at times, but that's made up for with a nice smile and large portions!
