Olde Traditional Blandscliffe Cafe in Scarborough

Absolutely the best fish & chips we've ever had, fish was so fresh. Owner/staff really friendly also. Thank you, we will be back .

As usual on our day trip to Scarborough we went for lunch at our cafe of choice. Greeted with the usual friendly welcome and a chat about how things were going. The food was delicious, freshly prepared and cooked perfectly. We can highly recommend this cafe.

This is an amazing cafe to eat in. I have been going to this cafe since I was my sons age (1 year old) and I'm 30 now and i'm carrying on the family tradition of visiting everytime I'm in Scarborough, always amazing food and always 5 stars, never had a bad thing to say about this cafe

Good old fashioned cafe fish and chips, complete with bread and butter, mushy peas and a pot of tea. Good quality and very filling, service excellent and place was packed. Definitely recommend

Just goes to show if you come away from the sea front things are so much better.We dropped on this place for traditional fish and chips.Reasonable prices great staff and really outstanding food .we will certainly be going back

Visited yesterday and had a lovely meal. The fish and chips were delicious and freshly cooked and the soup, beef dinner and puddings were fantastic. The staff were super friendly and welcoming and they also made our dog feel very welcome. The price for Scarborough was very reasonable. Couldn't recommend it enough.

We was here Saturday 25th feb the wife had homemade leek and potato soup with a white bread roll was really nice I had scampi with chips very nice also good value for money friendly staff will be calling again when back in Scarbrough

We enjoyed our first trip to Scarborough since “lockdown “ and were happy to see our favourite cafe had survived. We were even happier that the standard of food was still first class, an excellent tasty meal.

We had fish and chips, very nice food. Welcoming and friendly. We will defiantly go there again when next in Scarborough.

Called in for lunch on a day trip and we were not disappointed. It was really quiet and getting seated was no problem. The cafe is on reduced hours 12-3pm during the current pandemic. It was lovely to see them open as the business has been run by the same family for over 75 years. Was hoping for a cooked breakfast, but a reduced menu is in operation. A little disappointing - but completely understandable given the circumstances. Staff welcoming and friendly. Food was delicious - chip shop style chips. Other family had fish and chips but commented it was delicious. Well worth a visit and hope the current climate does not impact the business negatively. Not many traditional cafes left like this! If it looks empty - please don't be put off. Food is lovely and we need to keep places like this going!

We have spent this Sunday on a visit to Scarborough and as we always do we called here for lunch. Our preferred choice was fish and chips as usual and as usual we were presented with a wonderful meal, freshly cooked and tasty, friendly staff and very reasonably priced, recommended.

Been going there for years while on holidays growing up,the people there are really nice food is great and the atmosphere is very nice

Truly awesome fish and chips best I’ve ever had. Service was friendly and polite. Perfect for us because they allow well behaved dogs and brought a bowl of water for dog. Will definitely be back

My grandparents used to stay in the Blandscliffe Holiday Flats and visit the cafe in its early years for their summer holiday. It has become a tradition for us to visit every time we are in Scarborough. The food is always amazing and the family atmosphere is lovely. Highly recommend the chips and you will be made to feel welcome.

We were here today on our first trip to Scarborough me and my family had a great fish and chips, and my little girl has cerebral palsy and in a wheelchair and she had a baked potato amazing service staff were very friendly and helpful

On our regular trip to Scarborough we visited this cafe , why ? , because you get excellent food served by friendly staff and at reasonable prices

Me and my husband have visited this cafe for many years and are always greeted with a warm welcome by Anna and her family. Food is wonderful and freshly cooked. They do set menu for £9.50 for three courses and it never disappoints. Would highly recommend.

What can I say about the Blandscliff café. Value for money 10 out of 10, staff 10 out of 10. I don't believe you could get a 3 course meal as good as this for the same price anywhere else. I have lost count how many years myself and family have been going to the Blandscliff and I can Guarantee we will be going back. The fish and chips is my favourite meal but there again my husband likes the steak pie. Good food at good prices

Once again on our visit to Scarborough we called in for the traditional lunch of fish and chips here and as usual we had a first class meal.

Cant fault this place , nothing was to much bother for the lady serving even down to explaing every pudding to our daughter, food was very tasty and fresh and a pot of tea that you can easily get four cups from.

Called in here Sunday for a roast dinner ordered 2 adult roasts 1 child's roast can't believe had to pay extra for vegetables and 50p extra per Yorkshire pudding come on girls Scarborough is the home of the Yorkshire pud I expect it on my roast lunch in with the price. A Sunday roast to me is just that puds vegetables should come with it saying that the girl who served us was lovely

On our occasional visit to Scarborough we always have lunch here, excellent fresh fish and chips and very reasonably priced, friendly staff always helpful

Came for a few days away was recommended here and absolutely amazing food and very friendly staff, will be here again.

Habiendo estado en el apartamentos vacaciones cada año cuando era más joven, mi familia comer regularmente en el café de abajo y siempre fue genial. Podrá ser difícil encontrar la mejor comida en Scarborough. El café es un crédito para sean y su esposa Anna, yo no puedo recomendar que usted disfrutará de una comida aquí.

Fuimos dos días seguidos, tener el pescado y con trocitos de comida de 2 platos en ambas ocasiones. Las dos veces que fue fabuloso. Patatas frescas y el pescado maltratado estaba delicioso. El postre que tenía era una fresca casablaca y el precio era increíblemente barato para el alto nivel y excelente calidad de la comida. Estamos planeando una semana el año próximo, y la tradicional Cafe estará Blandscliffe arriba de la lista por nuestra comidas principales. Gracias a todo el personal por hacer que nuestra comida genial.

We went to this little fish and chip shop to sit in and have something to eat as recommended by my partners parents who have raved about this place and speak a lot to the owners...but as we sat and ordered 4 chip butties and drinks price in total about £24...WE was turned away as we were not ordering a meal yet they had a meal deal which would've ended up about the same price...They have lost custom for.that and more as parents went there every day..not.no more...we was left totally gobsmacked yet we went round the corner and had a lovely fish chips peas and cuppa and cob for £4.90..

Después de ir a Scarborough para el día y caminar por el paseo marítimo principal con chips después de chips, gracias a dios decidimos tomar una ruta diferente para intentar encontrar un lugar mejor para comer. Nos encontramos con viejos tradicionales y en resumen era precioso! Patatas fritas como lo propiamente nana solían hacer, pescado precioso, el servicio era maravilloso, con un personal encantador y incluso los otros clientes donde preciosa! Además de que era barato! Nunca comeré de nuevo en Scarborough en ningún otro lugar!

We regularly visit here when in Scarborough and always enjoy it just as much as the last time! The staff are so lovely the food is amazing! I love the steak pie! The children's meals are a brill size and they also do a baby meal of potatoes, veg and gravy which is only £1.10! It was a decent size bowl full too and my 11 month old son enjoyed it so much he finished the lot! Always enjoy coming here! Thank you once again! We will be back! :)

We visited this café again this week, first time this year, and the fish and chips were as good as ever, the service was excellent and staff pleasant. I fail to see how this café can be criticised at all.

Called in for lunch on a day out to Scarborough. Had 2 course meal, opted for the dinner & pudding. Two had fish chips & peas, tasty and ample portions, one had a Pie & veg. the puddings were delicious. Quite a quaint café on the hillside down to the seafront, but was very cold, don't think the heating was on, friendly quick service, reasonably priced.

Called in for our lunch and really enjoyed the fish and chips, freshly cooked and REAL chips. Great food at a good price.

We were a party of 4 plus a baby and we were looking for a little cafe so we could have a drink and feed the baby. They wouldn't allow the buggy at the table, even though there was plenty of room and he wasn't old enough to sit in a high chair. So we took the baby out and started making up his bottle, then noticed a sign saying during busy times they serve meals only. So we asked if we could just order drinks, but we were told no, they don't serve drinks and snacks during busy times. I wouldn't have minded but there were at least another 4 empty tables at the time. So we had to gather our belongings, and a screaming baby, and find another more accommodating café. Safe to say I won't be visiting this café again, even if we did want to order meals.

This café serves simple meals like fish and chips ,home made steak pie,choice of roasts and more ,also does great range of sweet courses at a very reasonable price staff very helpful/pleasant it was a pleasure to be in their café which we were 5 out of the 7 days we were in Scarborough ,we could not go on Thursday as it closes on Thursdays and the Friday we were out for the day and it closes around qtr to five.

We were looking for a fish and chip lunch, there were a few things on our hit list: must have a 5 hygiene rating (there are many of these in Scarborough), it must be fresh fish and the fish must be skinned. Blandcliffe café provided all these things, lovely fresh fish no skin or bones, the chips were fried in beef dripping, which was a first for me, but a favourite for my husband. We had good portions and very good service and it was value for money 2 fish and chip lunches with tea and bread and butter for £15.00. So if you are looking old style, traditional fish and chips this place ticks all the boxes.The only draw backs I can think of, there are no customer toilets on the premises and they only serve white sliced bread.However, I would eat here again because the fruit scones looked and smelled delicious

We visited Blandscliffe Cafe for lunch when we visited on Shrove Tuesday this year. It has been a bit of an old haunt since I was a small child, so this was a trip down memory lane.The service we received was excellent. My wife and small daughter were more than happy with their lunch. They both had a sandwich which came with a substantial side salad. They also shared a plate of chips, which really pleased my wife when they came and they were proper chips done in Beef Dripping. I enjoyed Beans on Toast. I was a little disappointed that they only offered White Bread for this though and not Brown. The food was still enjoyable though. It was all reasonably priced. We had two sandwiches, plate of chips, beans on toast, pot of Decaffeinated Tea, a coffee and a Fruit Shoot type drink and the bill came to £12.85.The other meals that I saw coming out of the kitchen were well presented and looked lovely. This cafe is famous for their Fish and Chips and it wasn't hard to see why. The other meals such as the Steak Pie and the breakfasts looked great too.The other disappointing thing was that I couldn't find any toilets in the cafe. This is either because a) they weren't signposted very well or b) there simply isn't any. Apart from this and the White Bread, I'd have given this cafe the full five stars. I'd still recommend this cafe to anyone who is visiting Scarborough for something to eat.

Visit blandscliffe cafe everytime we come to scarborough and always enjoy our meals! I LOVE the steak pie. My husband usually has fish and chips (also lovely!) And our daughter has a childrens meal which is always a great size portion! Lovely friendly family run cafe and although sometime a bit of a wait for a table it is deffinatly worth it! Reccomend any1 who has not been to give it a try! Hoping to return again soon!!

Every time we visit Scarborough we always have our fish and chip lunch here. Always lovely food and friendly staff.

We visited this café and had the best fish and chips that we have had for a very long time. Chips fried in beef dripping (like when we were kids) Fish and Batter were exceptional. Cost less than £14 for the two of us including bread and butter and two large coffees. We have visited a lot of cafes in Scarborough but in future it will be only this one.P.S. If you love Veggie Burgers maybe you are in the wrong café.

I don't know if the previous reviewer was in a different place, as our "real" chips were delicious and some of the better ones in town, compared to some of the other cafe's.We visited one lunchtime over a long bank holiday weekend and will definitely be going back. It is good old fashioned traditional food in generous portions at sensible prices (OAP meal sizes are available) e.g. fish and chips, steak pie and veg followed by fruit crumble, jam sponge etc in a traditional café setting. This is not the place to order a panini and espresso but there are other places in town for that. All the customers (a real mix of locals and tourists) seemed very happy with their meals. The waiter and waitress were both very helpful and cheerful. Please note there are no toilets but there are good quality public ones near the market almost across the road.

Worst food ever eaten. Don't recommend at all. Greasy soggy chips! Coffee was ok. Veggie burgers came on a cheap tea cake with no salad or toppings. Just dry patties. The chips were the worst thing to eat though. Gave me a greasy mouth for hours!

Family run business going back 3 or 4 generations so they must be doing something right to survive. And yes good food at the right price. Family of 4 can dine for £30 quite easily. Small menu but what there is is well cooked. Good desserts with good service. Can comfortably recommend.

Nicely located cafe. Fish and chips were enjoyable and fresh tasting. I felt my fish was a little greasy, although my husband didn't think so. He would have given it a "four". Staff were very friendly and service fairly quick. We did overhear people on the adjacent table being told they were being "kicked out" because they only wanted a child's meal (for their child) and teas. I don't think this was intended to be rude, but it didn't come across well. Also, whilst they had a sign saying "main meals only when busy", the place was, at the time, half empty, so it all seemed a bit unecessary.Apart from that, it was a nice place to go, very clean and relaxed, although a customer shouting into his mobile phone didn't exactly help the atmposphere.

Father in law introduced us to this cafe about 10 years ago - saying he always went here when in Scarborough. Went back for first time this week to find it unchanged and indeed proclaiming it has been a family business for many years. The food is very traditional - meat and 2 veg, fish and chips etc which is definitely a good thing. My wife thought the fish and chips were excellent. I had the breakfast but wasn't completely bowled over. First time I have had coffee made with milk as standard in a cafe (I'm told Barnsley pensioners wouldn't have it any other way)Place was nearly empty when we went in but filled up with pensioners until we thought we would leave to make space - I found the seating a little awkward and think it could perhaps be better arranged.

Lovely throughout if you like good english food in a characterful setting served by friendly people.No toilet so go for a wee first. Me, my wife and our two dogs go her all the time. The steak pie is fantastic.

We found this little cafe whilst wandering around scarborough there are around 3 cafes in close proximeter to one another, so we decided to call into this little cafe and it was a great find.I believe it is a family business and has been for many years, the meal was excellent in every way.It is at the top of a steep bank, but just off the main street and it was agreat find.The food is cooked freshly for everyone, so you have a little wait, but well worth waiting for.The fish and chips were absolutely delicious and I don't normally eat batter but it just melted in your mouth and even the peas were delicious. There was no-one in at first so we weren't expecting very much, but after we went in other people seemed to follow and when we had finished it was quite full.But it was definately worth another visit when we are next in Scarborough.Well worth a visit any time.The staff were excellent and friendly and the food was delicious.

Located just off the sea front it's quieter than other cafes but don't let that put you off.Quick prompt and friendly service but they allow you time to choose what you want to eat.Usually for me the chips let a fish and chips meal down but not here, it was delicious all round. Freshly cooked and prompt delivery of food£6.50 for fish chips peas, bread and a drink, and u can choose skin on or off the fish whatever your preference
