We were attending a wedding at the nearby Davenport House and booked for 2 nights at The Old Vicarage. It was an excellent choice as the wedding venue was only a 10 minute walk. Check in was efficient and we were handed our key to the Claverley Room. We had a huge 4 poster bed and antique furniture, including a wardrobe you could have gone to Narnia in! The room overlooked the rear gardens and the Shropshire countryside beyond and the bed was incredibly comfortable so we enjoyed 2 very comfortable night’s sleep. The bathroom was modern with a large walk in shower and toiletries were provided. Breakfast is served in the conservatory and guests are asked to complete a menu choice sheet the night before. The full English breakfast was superb and there’s also a choice of cereals, pastries and fresh orange juice. The staff are welcoming and friendly and happy to help with directions or alternative places to eat. We weren’t able to eat here due to a large wedding party but we were recommended The Dog Inn & Davenport which is only a 10 minute walk into the village (see separate review) and can thoroughly recommend for both food and hospitality. We would definitely stay here again.

We went to The Old Vicarage for a family Sunday lunch today. The food was really good but unfortunately the occasion was ruined by poor service. We arrived at one o’clock and all ordered the same starter but it took over an hour for these to arrive by which time we were starving-no bread was offered. The main courses(again all the same) and desserts also took an excessively slow time to arrive which spoiled the whole experience. There was no atmosphere as the restaurant only had three other tables.A disappointing experience.

Great food, they use a local butcher with a good reputation, the beef was particularly good, the whole meal and drinks were excellent value for money. The staff are friendly and natural, the surroundings idyllic. Highly recommend.

We had a 3 course lunch here today and the food was excellent. It was all prepared and cooked to perfection - the chef obviously knows how to balance flavours resulting in a superb lunch. The lunch was only surpassed by the outstanding service that we received from Caitlin - thank you!

Although we were the only diners in the delightful restaurant, we were made to feel very welcome and looked after in a professional and friendly manner. The food was delicious and we had a memorable evening.

We have organised our 2 daughters wedding receptions here and had a good time. So decided to have our family celebration here for a Sunday Lunch. There is no formal Sunday Lunch menu it’s an ala carte menu We had 6 grandchildren with us the menu catered for them really well. Homemade tomato soup went down a treat one had humous with crudities small roast beef and homemade chicken nuggets for the kids and chocolate brownies for pud. They scoffed the lot. Starters for the adults were pig cheeks fruit and thick jus delicious, roasted smoked aubergine pate, pea and smoked ham soup all looked and tasted delicious . Mains roast beef and Yorkshire puddings,Lamb casserole, skillet steak, roast pork all the mains accompanied with fresh vegetables including cauliflower cheese (yummy) Now for puddings I had the raspberry Cranachan, chocolate brownie with raspberry sorbet and caramel topping. The whole meal was a delight the whole family enjoyed both the food and the return to the venue. The food was great value staff were attentive but not over bearing. We will definitely return on Sundays in the future. Thanks to the team for providing a memorable occasion.

Attended for a family lunch and the service and food we received was very good. Our group of 14 arrived and were greeted in a cosy drinks area where we could all chat over a drink. When our table was ready we were moved through to the restaurant area. Food and drinks orders were taken by the team, and the food arrived for each course on time, and well presented. We were able to eat at our own pace and no one looked to move us forward at a faster pace. Not something you get in a number of restaurants at this busy time of the year.Food was of a high standard as was the service. After the meal we looked around the hotel and grounds. Will definitely becoming here again for a meal or to try out their afternoon tea.

My partner and I visited The Old Vicarage restaurant today for Sunday lunch. We are due to marry here in February and wanted to try the Sunday lunch menu beforehand as it had been recommended to us by friends. What can I say, the restaurant truly lives up to its claim as ‘Exquisite Cuisine in Beautiful Surroundings’. The quality and value of the food far exceeded our excpectations; 3 courses for £27, absolute bargain. My partner opted for the haddock starter and pork main, and I went for the pate and beef - all delicious. For dessert we both had the baileys cheesecake - fully recommend this, best cheesecake I’ve ever had. We finished with a coffee. The venue and its surroundings are truly stunning. The orangery is light and airy with uninterrupted views of the rolling countryside. Bliss! But the jewel in the crown at the Old Vicarage is the warmness of its staff. The staff are professional and incredibly friendly. Clearly a great team. Sarah, the hotel owner takes time to chat and always makes you feel as if you are being welcomed home. Fully recommend visiting if in the Shropshire area. We’ve already booked our next Sunday lunch in a few weeks time.

Well what can I say that hasn’t already been said, from the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and relaxed. The staff were fantastic throughout our stay and were really attentive to all our needs. The room was very comfortable and the recently fitted out shower room was excellent. The restaurant experience was out of this world, a must try even if your not lucky enough to stay over the night. A great family run hotel we will be back soon, thanks for everything.

Our son and new daughter-in-law held their wedding ceremony and wedding breakfast at the Old Vicarage last weekend 27th July 2018. We couldn't fault it, the venue, service, food, atmosphere, staff were all perfect. The venue itself is ideal for an intimate, friendly wedding Sarah and her staff paid attention to detail and helped us achieve a truly memorable occasion. Even the registrar from Shropshire Council was wonderful, she put everyone at ease and set the scene for a really great, relaxed day/evening. Our thanks to everyone at the Old Vicarage, we would certainly recommend.

We've been eating at the Wheel for the last three or four years and were always guaranteed a warm welcome and excellent pub food. Until the past six months or so, when the food hasn't been so good. And it's noticeable that the place isn't so popular - usually the car park is full (a sign it's popular) but in recent months there have been plenty of spaces. On our last visit I had beef in red wine which was just unpleasant - tasted as if it had been stewing away for days, was a huge thick and glutinous mass of unattractive goo all over the plate. My companion's fish-n-chips was OK - but so it should be! Who can spoil fish-n-chips? Oh let me answer that question - a nearby hostelry did spoil them spectacularly and the woman in charge was rude and horrid to boot, which is why we took our custom to the Wheel. Look through my reviews and you'll find it! Now the Wheel is on the turn (so to speak!) so we're voting with our feet for a while, and will perhaps give the Wheel another turn in a few months' time. I hope it improves, because it's a pleasant place to visit - but if the food's no good it has to be a no-no!.

Recently visited to celebrate my friends' 60th Birthday... afternoon tea with her and her Mom.... there was only us and another couple in the orangery for the tea but it was absolutely lovely! Beautiful selection of sandwiches with tea and then gorgeous cakes and pastries and scones and cream! Lovely selection and good value, we really enjoyed it... the only think I would say is that they could have done with a little background music but other than that, perfect!

We have been to the Old Vicarage many times over the years - the people who own it have been there a long time now although the staff seem to change regularly. For a 3 course Sunday lunch in a lovely place like this the price is good - the beef was of excellent quality and very tender, plenty of veg to go with the meals too although I did find everything a tad on the cool side - I like piping hot food if it is being bought a distance from the kitchen! However, it has to be said that they are very good at adapting the food to help our gluten free friend who does struggle at some places - the chef here is always able to adapt the food to suit. The Orangery is lovely and bright and warm on a winters day but lacking in ambience and atmosphere when there are only a few diners - needs some background music! That said, it will not put us off going again, it is a lovely place with lovely people - Sarah the owner and her husband are very nice and always have time for you however busy they are.

My family treated my husband and I to a two night stay at The Old Vicarage in Worfield. It was my 70th birthday which was conveyed to the Hotel but I was disappointed that even though we were the only visitors there it was not mentioned. The food was good we ate dinner on the first night in the dining room and because we were the only people there we were put in a smaller room for breakfast which was delicious.

We recently got married here on the 22nd December and are so glad we chose The Old VIcarage for our wedding venue. Everything was perfect from start to finish. All our guests had a fabulous day and commented that it was some of the best food they have ever eaten in a restaurant. We would like to thank Sarah, Lesley, Vicky and Carlo who looked after us all day. I particularly liked the Leighton room which is large and comfortable for the bridal party to get ready. All the hotel rooms were filled with our guests and we all enjoyed an excellent breakfast together the next morning. The location and Orangery looked amazing and cant wait to see our photographs. The restaurant is open for lunches and dinner - the beef is superb for Sunday lunch so please give it a try. All the best for 2018 from Sharon and David

We stayed overnight for a midweek wedding. The location is beautiful in the middle of the countryside. The meal was the best I have had at any wedding I have been to, which includes weddings where tens of thousands were spent! All the staff were brilliant all really friendly and professional at the same time. Bar staff could do with a bit more training to help things run smoother but this wasn’t a major issue. Drinks a little more expensive but are in keeping with the area. Room was lovely spotlessly clean. Again just needed a few minor touch ups to keep the standard. All in all a great day and night. Thank you!

Visited for dinner with family and was not impressed. The theory behind the limited choice set menu and the “fine” dining was clear but in practice it became cloudy. The two starters of salmon and quail were tasty but small portions with the sauces taking away the individual taste. Our main courses were beef, duck and fish and whilst the portions remained small, the duck and fish were good. However the beef was fatty and chewy and over half was left on the plate. The side dishes were necessary even though they incurred extra cost as without them there would have been insufficient food. The sweets were basic and the cheese selection tasty.

We recently got married at The Old Vicarage and can't thank you enough for such a perfect day. Such a beautiful venue, Sarah and her staff were brilliant throughout (we especially loved Carlo as our master of ceremonies), and food was fantastic. Many of our guests also commented how lovely the venue was and how good the food was. We very much hope you will still be serving Sunday dinner next year as we are already planning to come back for our anniversary! Thank you again, Rachel and Aid

Why is it as a wedding party you think you would get cheaper rates charged £115 but to book the same room £60 Plus breakfast still only £85 so being ripped of in my opinion you would think larger the party cheaper the rates

We love to go to the wheel as the food is always good and its local!! The only down side is that when there is more than 3 in our party we seem to have to wait for up to a hour before our meal arrives.

I must echo the views of others. A really lovely restaurant spoiled by sparrows landing on the the table where cakes are being cut and on uncleared tables. Very unhygienic - there must be a way to stop them coming into the tearooms. Never encountered it anywhere else. Health and safety would have a field day!
