Old Restoration in Cheltenham

The barman was very friendly and helpful, hegave us a few recommendations on where to eat and where to go

Has great potential, but all the other nearby pubs leave it far behind. One real ale which had clearly been in the barrel for too long. Ironically it feels too large - perhaps a room could be divided up and left unused until business builds up. Makeovers can be contrived or wasteful, but this has a 1980s feel minus the nostalgia

It's the go to for drinks. Staff are fantastic and there is a nice atmosphere in the pub. Not usually overly busy so you can have a good conversation.

Popped in for the one early drink after shopping and before dinner in Cheltenham. Despite being 5 o'clock on a Friday we were the only customers!

I only popped in for a drink when meeting up with a friend, the staff were friendly and the place looked nice . There was a pool table and dart board.

Found this place by chance and what a find! Best Sunday lunch we’ve ever had, absolutely brilliant. Friendly staff, good service, fabulous food. Now we know where to come next time we’re in Cheltenham.

Little-known place with a nice atmosphere

Visited at short notice on Father’s Day, but luckily they were serving Sunday Roast all day, and at 12:30 we were their first customers, so a choice of tables ! Recently under new management, and the staff are friendly and efficient. Generous well cooked delicious meal portions, with a good choice of beer & wine. Well worth a visit !

What a lovely find for a quiet lunch on a Saturday before the theatre 🎭 amazing staff, lovely fresh food and affordable. Thank you!!! We tried the chicken and bacon salad plus chicken and bacon burger! Delicious!

Went on a Sunday, they were only doing Sunday roasts. Pub quiet at 1pm food arrived quickly. Veggie option described as a wellington when it was really a veggie puff!

Today I had another delicious Sunday Roast Lunch at the Old Restoration. This is such a lovely pub that is so welcoming and gives such fantastic service. The food here is always so good, so delicious and the portions are always very generous. It’s not just the roast dinners, you are offered an amazing choices of great food cooked by their very good chef Ant. I brought my family here two weeks ago and they were very impressed and would like to come again. Ben, the Manager is kind, always so attentive and very accommodating, always making sure everyone is happy. Jenny was so good, very patient with my granddaughters and looked after us so well. Ben even organised a wonderful Craft table for the children to entertain themselves. My granddaughters really enjoyed all the different crafts, colourful paints, papers and pens that they can use. It was a very well thought of craft table. Have told so many people about this lovely pub and that they will be given a very warm welcome when they come and will be served amazing food and be given fantastic service.

Best Sunday Lunch I've had in a long time! Veggie options were delicious! Shout out to Ben who went out his way to give us excellent customer service! We will be back!

I visit the Old Restoration often due to it being a very friendly pub with lovely bar staff. They always offer a great menu. The new menu is amazing! I tried the haddock fishcakes with hollandaise sauce and asparagus. It was wonderful, really top quality. I would certainly recommend the Old Restoration to anyone looking for food or a good night out.

My husband and I love the old Restoration pub in Cheltenham..the landlord and all his staffs are fantastic,always ask if everything ok,how was your day etc..something everyone needs to hear sometimes (Give it a visit guys) it’s a must visit..

Great service and choice of beers

Lovely quiet pub, had a wonderful lunch on the coronation. My daughter had face paints and crafting. Very friendly and helpful staff would highly recommend.

A large town-centre pub, plenty of tables, and plenty of large screens about. There was a good selection of real ales on tap. Surprisingly, at 5:30pm on a Friday this place was virtually empty, though when we left at 7:15pm they were setting up for live music, so it would probably fill up. Suited us just fine, as we just wanted a couple of quiet drinks.

Massively upped their game since being taken over. Great place for live music and have some of the cheapest beer in town. Not eaten but the food is apparently good. Have darts and a pool table.

Friendly large space with plenty of seating, beautiful building from the outside. The Sunday roast was sooooo good and filling, all sorts to offer on the bar drinks wise! Definitely be back soon x

Oldest pub in Cheltenham, Very welcoming landlord and one of the best pool tables in town.

1st time being there since the new owner took over. Cannot praise enough the friendliness or attentiveness of the staff. The food is worth a review section in itself, large portions of freshly prepared, tasty food at a very reasonable price, especially considering the quality and fresh ingredients. We had a Sunday roast when we visited and have never had better quality, portioned and tasty food, with a specific shoutout to the chicken and super tender beef! Would definitely come again, and would definitely recommend to friends.

good food and good service from Ben! Only recommendations are to pan fry the cabbage with soy sauce to make it a bit more tasty! And maybe some more training with the bar staff just to help things run more smoothly and efficiently (minor critiques). but the beef roast was quite delicious, very filling and I was very happy with the service! hoping for more people to check it out - seems like it could become a really nice local and student pub!! Also very reasonably priced!! Ben had some other quite difficult customers at the time but he kept his cool and was super polite!

Would highly recommend The Old Restoration . We booked our works Christmas meal for friday 16th at 6pm . Great welcome from Ben where we were shown straight to our table . Beautifully decked out for us . The Christmas meal was fantastic . So much food and great quality . Service was fab . We made a mistake with our dessert choices and ordered apple tart for one of our guests instead of the choc mousse by mistake but Ben sorted this and a choc mousse was made from scratch . Amazing customer service!!! Book your Christmas meal now . I promise you will not be disappointed . Five stars from us all . Thankyou Ben and team x

Great Food this evening, we had the Ploughman’s Sharer and it was fresh and tasty, Great Service too

Brilliant Christmas Dinner menu. We went on a Christmas meal this evening. Really stuffed after eating. Would definitely go again.

It was a nice enough pub but why put cinnamon on the dinner and gravy without telling you on the menu. Not everyone likes it! Couldn't eat it all, nor could the people on the next table. Just need to fine points a few things that's all.

Very friendly owner, but we waited nearly an hour for two bowls of soup, and two ploughman's lunches, both of which came without cheese, including the one that was vegetarian and actually called 'the cheese ploughman's. When we asked the server, she said she didn't think ploughman's lunches came with cheese... 🤔 I think some improvements have been made already to this pub, and I see a few more its future...

Sunday roast under new management. Was great value for money before, even better now. Nice olde worlde feel with a nice selection of drinks. Dog friendly if that's your thing, and kid friendly with more than a reasonable sized meal.

I took my kids down to this pub for the free Halloween carving event and they had a lot of fun, we decided to stay for lunch and the food didn't disappoint. We are looking forward to future events.

Decent pub in Cheltenham Town centre with cask ale brewed locally. There was a band on when I last visited; Good atmosphere but band not top notch; decent enough but poor acoustics.

Some staff have poor hearing. Surprised 2 identical rounds--£2 difference.

Always make a point of going to this place, bar staff very polite and courteous, free pool, albeit a deposit for the cues.

Honestly we only came to play pool and the table was very good. Nice atmosphere, the only downside was the beer which was a bit off, but besides that, top place!

We visited yesterday Sunday, in the evening,was very quiet. Ordered roast, waited ages and came out cold, and it was the worst roast I had in England. Staff didn't care about providing good customer service. No soap in women toilet!

I like the place itself but the service is slow despite being empty. Had a coffee which seemed to be missing much of the actual coffee and tasted mostly of warm milk! Going to give this place a miss for awhile.

Awful meal and experience. Went with hubby and my 3 kids on a recommendation and star rating. Menu online is completely different from that on the premise plus no kids menu. All of my 3 children said the food was terrible and left most of their meal. My husband had hunters chicken which was disgusting. Tomato puree instead of BBQ sauce! Sweet potato fries were as thin as match sticks and burnt. Service was terrible, no one came to check if our meals were OK or if we needed anything to go with the meals. On paying, my husband told the bar manager of the poor quality and shockingly was told "what do you expect for that price". We eventually got 20% taken off the food, which still left us with a bill for £50 for food that we didn't eat. Have since food out that the pub has changed ownership recently , so just beware the 4.5 star rating is definately not for the present owners.

No draught beer on sale they ran out of gas.

Das Lokal ist sehr einladend und gemütlich mit einem Touch einer irischen Bar. Wir waren zu Abend und hatten einen Nachtisch. Ich denke es schmeckte in Ordnung. Die Preise eher hoch (£7).

Ale was surprisingly good, not visited for a long time and it's better than it used to be. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. Went in to watch the Six Nations and it wasn't too busy. Didn't eat, but the food we saw coming out looked good. Some accessibility issues due to the building being on different levels.

Good High Street pub.. Actually had London Pride on tap!! Bit dead in terms of atmosphere and food is.. Average.. Shame!!
