Visited here for first time. Pleasant surroundings. Unfortunately staff explained they could not produce any of the cooked menu and took a very long time to produce cool hot drinks. I can understand that they were young and stressed, but they mixed up my coffee serving me with milk instead of a non milk alternative. Luckily I am non IGE allergic, so no anaphylaxis, just illness, but if otherwise it could be a very serious outcome. Sorry I'm having to post this, but I wouldn't like someone to suffer a life threatening scenario.

Planty of seating both inside and out. Food cooked to order so fresh. You need to alowe for this time wise. Hard to say about the price, not cheap but not expencive. Alowe between £5 & £8 per person.

The Old Kiln Cafe is located within the Rural Life Centre and is within the reception shop building. There is a large well organised outdoor area with burger and tea bar facility used for events of which the Rural Life Centre has many. The bacon butty, as the title states, is brilliant. Plenty of good smoked back bacon. Like everything about the cafe; generous, practical and well presented. The result is a busy spot with good sized family tables making for a convivial atmosphere. In the Winter months the cafe is only open on Wednesday and Sundays. Check the opening times on the Rural Life website. A hearty menu, good coffee and cake provide all that could be required. Especially on a Winters day. Previous visits, on busy days, I’ve seen long queues, hence the additional outside facilities to ease the pressure. Worth the wait. Definitely a five from me. The bacon butty wins every time!

We went in the summer and had an amazing burger and chips from the outdoor grill. For the same price (£8), today we had ham, egg and chips which consisted of 1 mediocre slice of packaged ham, 1 egg, sad looking salad leaves. Chips were nice though. Very underwhelmed for the money! Always friendly staff though.

Hearty basic food served in a 'shed' at The Rural Life Centre. Pleasant enough port in a storm but don't expect fine dining. It is what it is - unpretentious and acceptable.

Went for a sandwich and tea while visiting the Rural Life Centre. My Stilton sandwich was excellent and freshly made with pickle and a small salad plus a very nice mug of tea for £6. Lots of choice of food and drinks and all reasonably priced. Very good value and recommended.

This was our first visit and certainly won't be our last ...we thought our food was absolutely lovely ...Steve had soup with toasted cheese and said he hadn't tasted soup so tasty and the rest of us had wonderful toasted sandwiches complete with salad garnish and cheesy chips ...everything was piping hot and we really enjoyed it It does say on menu that you may have to wait a bit for food as everything is freshly made ! so don't expect ur food to be served five minutes after ordering but it certainly was worth the wait

For a cafe attached to a tourist attraction this was pretty good, really good if being honest. The Eggs Benedict were pretty much spot on, really really good. Children's food was fantastic too. If you're in the area, or visiting the rural life centre certainly give it a look.

I organised a corporate event on behalf of the Institute of Roofing London & Southern Counties Region at the Rural Life Centre and Jay could not have provided a better selection of fresh cooked delicacies for the IoR members. Although this was a business meeting nothing was too much trouble for Jay and his team at the Old Kiln Café. I looked at their extensive brilliantly priced menus that included breakfast, light lunch and full lunch menu. what a great café.

Servicio amable. Gran capuchino. Gran pasteles.

We couldn't really get enthusiastic about anything on the menu. The Ploughman's was a possibility but as we were a bit chilled by walking around the Rural Life Centre we decided for a hot meal. We have eaten too many burgers over the last few days so went for the Fish and Chips with a cup of tea. Very traditional. The fish was slightly on the small side but all in all probably as good as could be expected. The meal filled a hole but you wouldn't bring a girl here to propose to her unless you didn't want to get married.Another increasingly frequent site is the staff coming out to sit near you for their fag break after the chips are done and this café was no exception.

Was feeling a little fragile on a late Sunday morning and decided to get a bit of brekkie and some fresh air, only most places stop service breakfast at 11.30 and this was 12.15 thank goodness for Kiln Cafe, beautifully presented, quality food (except cut bread but not too worried about that as bacon and sausage was superb). Excellent value, great coffee, lovely staff, good atmosphere and the cafe was spotlessly clean. Outside loos are not good but not cafes fault that's down to the rural life centre and the clues in the name a bit rural (campers will be fine!) so I can survive a shabby loo! The roast dinners that came out of the kitchen looked fabulous too. Will definitely return

Popped in for a quick lunch and as we have found before, made very welcome. The order was quickly taken and done so with a smile and short chat. The hot food arrived quickly as well and it was fab. Chicken and leek pie with veg and at my request chips rather than the new spuds. They accept Jess our Bulldog without issues, although the gift shop said we wouldn't be allowed in with her. We knew this not to be the case. I would check that your dog would be ok in the cafe. If its wet and covered in mud expect not to be admitted.Prices are very good and food well presented and cooked. Warm and welcoming on a cold overcast day.

Visited while at the attached Rural Life Centre, but you can come in without paying for that. It's cosy in a dated sort of way inside, which is perhaps the plan, to tie in with the Centre! My children and I visited at lunchtime and it took an absolute age to be served, not because the staff weren't working flat out, as they were, but just because it seems like a popular place and there were plenty of customers. Queuing was also made tricky as the queue goes right by the tables, so probably not that great for people eating in the inside area either. Once we got to the front all was easy to do and the order efficiently taken. We headed to an outside table - there are lots out there so this is a better option if weather permits. It then seemed to take ages for our food to be delivered to our table, but they do make everything to order so this was understandable. My children had the children's lunchboxes and I had a veggie burger - all went down well! My advice to anyone visiting with children is that if you have more than one adult in the group, send one person in to wait and put in the order, while the rest head off into the grounds, and then fetch them when the food arrives! However, despite the length of time it all took the staff were friendly and efficient and our food good. There is a great range of options on the menu and people around me were tucking into all sorts of tasty dishes!

We took a picnic as one of our number is a fussy eater, so only visited for tea and cake. However, once we saw the food being served we knew we had made a mistake. Our cake was delicious - but the food being served to other customers made our mouths water. You can even turn up for a roast lunch on most Sundays, apparently.

This is a small place in quite a tucked away location but nevertheless a very nice country setting. We were staying at Dragon Lodge for a few days so came to this place quite a few times mostly for breakfast. It was always excellent and service quick and friendly.

We popped in here for a breakfast before hitting the road at the end of our holiday. It's in the Rural Life Museum near Tilford but you don't need to go to the museum to use the cafe. The service was top notch and we were made very welcome and the breakfast was fresh and tasty. What more is there to say. Thanks

Fabulous pub, great service and so welcoming to a large group (16 adults). We prebooked a few weeks in advance (with no deposit despite previous comments) as we knew other pubs would struggle to accommodate us. When we arrived, the staff couldn't have done any more for us; we were welcomed warmly, served promptly and had utterly delicious food. We will definitely return, and it was a truly wonderful place to idle away a Sunday afternoon in such a comfortable, beautiful venue. Thanks to all the staff, very much appreciated!

5 out of 5! First visit, lively and friendly. Fantastic, tasty, hot fresh food. Starters, calamari, and chicken wings were delicious. Mains, kofte kebab, and pork kebab are also excellent. Buffalo fries were stunning. The two veggies with us had superfood salad and a sweet potato dish, which I was assured were really good!!! Good choice of beer and wine and delightful staff!! Cost us about £72 per couple, including drinks and gratuity, which I considered very acceptable for the evening we had! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. We will definitely be going back! 👍🏽

Lovely woodland setting with very pleasant outside seating. But the cafe facilities were rather poor. Two "hot" sausage rolls were taken from a cold display case and were barely warm. a "cream tea" came in an assortment of pre-packaged plastic containers. This plus a couple of coffees came to over £20. Along with a disappointment with the arboretum itself, this did not make for a good day. We are not quite sure why the NT is even managing Winkworth, let alone currently expensively now expanding its facilities.

Disappointed, chicken burger was 70% lettuce, hardly any Asian slaw :( typical takeaway restaurant being tight and overloading on the cheapest ingredients :(
