An absolutely magnificent "proper pub." James & Darren are absolute legends. Had drinks & food over a couple of days. There's not many pubs left in the UK like this unfortunately, nowadays. Top notch, service, friendliness & all good round community pub with thr locals to match. Without a doubt, we will be back again on our next trip to Devon.

Came here for a burger night with friends to celebrate my birthday. They hadn’t been before and certainly weren’t disappointed. The food was reasonably priced but the quality definitely exceeded our expectations. Fantastic portions, lots of flavour and well presented. A very enjoyable meal. The bar was busy and very cosy due to the roaring open fire. Perfect for an autumn night. The bar is well-stocked and fairly priced and the beer is well kept. The whole establishment is clean and clearly well cared for. In addition, the hosts (James and Darren) couldn’t have been more welcoming. They were attentive without being intruding and both welcoming and kind. Both of my friends (females) felt instantly at home in this establishment. We were even offered a lift home after our evening (which we gratefully accepted) -something that I’ve never known before!. Such unexpected kindness goes a long way and both myself and my friends will be returning. Keep up the fab job you are doing-if only there were more landlords like you.

This is a super friendly and laid back place. Great pub food. The pies are amazing - the best Homity Pie I've ever eaten! Try the trifle - it's delicious. Currently the tables are in a lovely outside space at the back of the pub and a series of live music events are set to continue on a monthly basis over the summer.

Weekend in Bishopsteignton. Popped into the Old Commercial for a pint. Due to COVID restrictions waited a bit for a table - no problem. Sat for 15 minutes, nobody came to take our order. Locals who arrived after us served at their table immediately by the landlord. Ignored by his serving staff. People openly walking to the bar to be served despite COVID rules. Staff behind the bar weren't wearing masks. We ended up leaving before we were served. Avoid at all costs. I'd recommend the other two pubs in the village - Cockhaven and Ring O' Bells - excellent service, no problems, smashing the COVID rules and regs! ☑️

Great beers and the owners and family who run it are excellent company if you just pop up there on your own. Now an authentic village pub as they used to be with a superb atmosphere. Now that they open at lunchtimes Friday to Sunday it's ideal if you just want a coffee with friends in the lounge beside the fire. Coffee made by Mabel the way YOU like it - unlike some coffee shops.

Visited a couple of times whilst having a short break in the village. It's a nice unspoilt establishment serving some nice real ales. Very friendly staff and customers, the one barman had a cracking sense of humour. Entertainment is via a turntable record player, there are some eclectic choices waiting to be requested behind the bar. At the top of the village, it is worth searching out.

Good beer, pub food and conversation await. Unlike many pubs this one is bucking the trend towards Farrow and Ball paint and bland makeovers. It is gradually being renovated into a proper traditional pub, with live music and a high standard open mic night most Mondays. Whether your tipple is real ale, cider (with the option of an excellent cheese board), wine, gin or non alcoholic the choice is all top quality with many local offerings.

We called in this small pub whilst visiting Bishopsteignton. It was very cosy and the bar staff seemed quite pleasant advising us on Gin. We particularly liked the quirky old style music being played on a record player from behind the bar. The décor is very outdated but in someways that suited the style. Its not somewhere I would stay for more than a drink or 2 but was still a pleasant visit. Thanks.

An absolutely fantastic little family owned pub! It’s got a very cosy atmosphere with some absolutely amazing music from their assortment of records. The food is simply incredible! My only criticism would be to have more ciders on tap! Even if it’s just one addition.

A strange pub for a Friday lunch, but to be fair, Mabel served a great pint of Dartmoor Ale and was a very good host. The other family members that were working that day we saw were not used to being in front of house. After Mabel moved on to sign for a delivery the mother? took over the bar and despite sitting there for some time with empty glasses we had to ask for a refill and a menu for lunch which was basic to say the least. We don't have big appetites but these was the meanest Ham Egg and chips ever!!! They are trying their best but some lessons would go a long way to this being a successful Pub. But as the beer was wonderful I will be back again.

This is a really welcoming pub, with great beer (I enjoyed the Dartmoor Dragon's Breath) and a short, simple but effective menu. Traditional pub food - pie and chips, ham egg and chips etc. We had freshly made scotch eggs - surprisingly fantastic, with a black pudding twist that really works. Also enjoyed playing 'Shut the Box'. Great hosts
