Well what a fab pub, very friendly and the food was exceptional. We were staying just across the road from the pub, so very handy to go in early evening for food. Maddie and Jim are very good hosts and made us feel very welcome. A perfect pint also says my husband. Would love to go again when in the area. Love Gill and Pete. Xx

Wow. What a wonderful place. We arrived early for our Sunday lunch but we were immediately welcomed and made to feel at home. My mum and I had the roast pork with the most delicious piece of crackling. My husband had the roast beef which was very tender. All the vegetables were fresh and perfectly cooked and the Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes were fabulous. A very friendly pub and if we lived nearer we would become regulars. Thank you for a lovely meal.

A lovely warm, friendly place to eat - and dogs are welcome. The food was delicious and nothing was too much trouble. The Crayfish Thermidor was really nice and although part of the locally reared rump steak was a little ‘chewy’ in places (which wasn’t obvious even to the trained eye), we were brought another one free of charge which was extremely tasty, tender and cooked as requested. We had declined the offer but was told “it has to be right”. Perfect customer service and 10/10 from us. Lovely people, lovely environment and delicious food. When in the area we will definitely visit again. These people have got running a pub/restaurant spot on across the board. Thank you Chequers.

We called in for lunch after calling and booking 10 minutes before arriving. On arrival greeted warmly, all the required covid measures in place, including T&T app, plus taking home phone number. Seated and ordered our drinks and starter, then main. Our meals were absolutely delicious, very generous portions, my wife could not finish hers. Despite the strange times, we felt relaxed, and safe. We had a lovely time, thank you very much and please relay our thanks to the chef. We would, without hesitation, recommend this pub.

Amazing food! The burgers were cooked to perfection and the onion marmalade with Brie was a great topping! For dessert I had the sticky toffee pudding, which was a must at this time of year. This dessert went above and beyond my expectations; I am confident that this is the best sticky toffee pudding in Suffolk! This restaurant/pub is very dog friendly as ours was treated just like any other customer. I love that the staff asked if it was okay to bring him treats over too, to which we said yes! Basil definitely wants to go back ASAP.The atmosphere here was so friendly and peaceful. We felt very relaxed and at ease. A final shout out to the staff who were attentive, polite and friendly. Also, we would like to thank the chef(s) for their immaculate food. We’ll definitely be popping back before our staycation ends!

We were staying nearby and, after stopping in for a drink, booked a family dinner for the following day. The measures in place to prevent Covid-19 were well organised and we were welcomed and shown to our table by Carol. The food was excellent and the service from Cara was friendly without being intrusive. Cara had overheard that it was my daughter's birthday and so her cheesecake dessert arrived with a celebratory message! Our only disappointment was that when we decided to return later in the week, the pub was closed as Andy and Carol were taking taking a few days holiday. However, we'll be back next time we are in the area.

We have been to this pub quite a few times previously and we never fail to feel welcomed, the owners are always so friendly and the waiting staff really enjoyed having a chat with the children which was so nice for the kids. The new COVID measures put in place make you feel very confident and safe. The adult meals were all lovely (fish and burgers) the portions were perfect too, even managing to fill up my always hungry teenager! The only thing that sadly lets the pub down are the children meals. This occasion we ordered the margarita pizza (£7/8) when it arrived it was very clearly a bog standard value frozen pizza that had been whacked in the oven (we can all recognise those from the endless kids parties, right?!) my child really wasn’t keen (and we couldn’t blame them!) so we shared our dinners instead. They could easily make the children’s menu something to look forward to and still make a profit eg. The locally sourced free range pork is literally on their doorstep, some sausages & mash, or spag Bol, homemade fish fingers or a small version of the adults burgers would be absolutely perfect, and I promise it will pay off as parents would choose to go there more often.

There were locals around the bar but plenty of people eating leading to a buzzy atmosphere. My hunnie had the roast dinner which he was very impressed with and I has the veggie burger which was tasty with perfectly cooked chips. Lucking we had room for dessert. The ginger rice pudding had been popular as we had the last portion which was delicious along with the berries Eton mess which was yummy. This was all washed down with a very good Malbec. Our first time here to support their special World Vegan Day menu. It was a masterclass of fabulous food! The presentation was top class and the flavours divine. It truly was a gourmet meal and for a restaurant that doesn't usually cater for vegans (they will if given notice) they did brilliantly. Popped in here before heading on to an evening concert at Snape Maltings. Was a real delight. Really warm welcome by the Pub Owner and his wife who squeezed us in among the busy bookings that night. Even got the kitchen to deliver promptly at 6 pm. The menu was great and the fish pie was one of the best we had tasted for a while. And the Suffolk Ham was thickly sliced and as tasty as it looked. The pub is one of the rare independents from the Adams’ stranglehold in the area so it was good to try the Woodford’s Wherry for a change. The village is indeed fortunate to have such a local drinking establishment. We were sorry we could not have stayed longer.

My friend and I were staying nearby over the Bank Holiday Weekend, and on the Saturday we decided to go to the Old Chequers after a 6 hour walk, before we went back to our hotel. When we walked in, there were many empty tables, with on a few with reserved signs on. We approached the bar area, where we asked for a table, and the waitress looked at us and said, "how many for?" It was pretty obvious there was only 2 of us, then she responded with, "sorry we're fully booked". I then said, it's only 2 of, we'll be very quick and there are many empty tables. She then said, "everyone has booked for 7:30pm". I then said, we can sit and eat at the bar, to which she replied, "we are not allowed to serve food at the bar". At no point did she even try to help. We could have sit outside, or she could have suggested a time where it would have bee quieter, however she did not even want to help.

We called in for Saturday lunch. The pub is clean and smart with friendly staff and a great pint. The food was wonderful too. Crab cakes for starter were very light and tasty. I had the battered fish and my wife had Sea Bass. Both dishes were cooked to perfection. Will call again when visiting this way.

Met a friend for lunch here today for her birthday as she has recently moved to the village. Wasn’t sure what to expect but wow what a little gem. The inside of the pub is beautifully decorated and very spacious. The landlady was super friendly and very welcoming. My friend and I decided on roast beef which was delicious very tender and perfectly cooked, it arrived with Yorkshire puds, carrots broccoli and cabbage and roast potatoes and very tasty gravy. Although we were quite full we couldn’t quite resist the sticky toffee pudding with caramel ice cream, beautifully presented and again delicious. The prices are very reasonable too £11 for the roast! I would definitely recommend this pub with a very relaxing ambience and super friendly team and delicious food what more could you ask for? I will definitely be returning.

Visited here after a disappointing meal the night before at The Crown and Castle. Enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch with friendly owners/staff. Lucy the beautiful Scottie was a particular highlight. Varied vegetarian options (always a bonus for me), cosy decor and dog friendly. We will definitely return and can highly recommend!

We received such a warm welcome from the lady of the house as soon as we arrived and so it continued! The food was delicious and the atmosphere very conducive to a lovely family meal. Highly recommend the roast and a very good choice of desserts; all presented well and friendly and efficient service. Would definitely return and recommend others to visit this welcoming establishment.

Not much to look at from the outside and the sort of pub you might drive past but it’s worth stopping for a meal. Very nice decor inside and we found the service of our lunch excellent. We had pork and beef traditional Sunday lunch. My wife said the pork was excellent although the beef wasn’t the best I had ever eaten. I found it a bit chewy(hence 4 stars) however, it would not deter me from visiting again. Perhaps just a rouge slice. Anyway the rest of the meal was of a high standard. There was a good selection on the menu of sweets. The weekday menu seemed to have a good selection that we intend to sample. Seems it’s not open on Mondays. My advice would be to give this pub a try.

We were staying in Aldeburgh and googled somewhere to book for an evening out and I'm so glad we did. Greeted so friendly by the landlords of this establishment as soon as we arrived. We were a party of 10 and had a lovely long table at the edge of the restaurant so really felt nice and private away from the other diners. The food I can only describe as outstanding. All of our 10 meals came out hot, fresh and presented beautifully. I would definitely return if I am this way again. Glad we found this special country pub!

It was some time since last we were here and a snap lunch with close friends was a grand idea. Initially we waited for menus, then when we ordered the wine the wrong sized glass appeared. Then we had to prompt the waitress so that we could order the food... When it came it was fine, with different meals ordered around the table. Again we had to wait to order dessert, it was as though the corner table was invisible. Puds were fine and then we left. Is it me???

From the moment you are greeted here everyone is friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is nicely relaxed. Every memeber of staff goes more than the measured mile to ensure that diners are happy and are enjoying the meal. We were staying at the hotel and dined here for five nights in a row during which we enjoyed a wonderful variety of lovely, sea-fresh fish - Lemon Sole, Skate Wing, Hake, Megrim Sole and Sea Bream. There was also Whitebait to enjoy and, a new favourite, the Salt and Pepper Squid Tapas. A meal here is leisurely as everything is cooked to order - don't expect "instant" service - it is worth the wait. Breakfast is also good and plentiful both hot and cold ... bring a good appetite - portions are generous!

A gem of a pub where we have previously stayed but this visit was for food and drink only. Important to remember it is a pub. Tables are not reset able and many people pop in for a drink only. The food is simple but plentiful, flavoursome and satisfying. As for drink, well it is an Adams pub - enough said.

On the way to our holiday destination in Suffolk ,we got lost. I was so desperate to use the toilet we stopped at the Barley Mow only to find it was closed ! Two men in the carpark asked if they could help and very kindly opened the Pub doors to let me use their toilet.....I can't thank them enough. They also pointed me in the right direction of my holiday destination. Thanks guys. I cant comment on the pub itself as it was closed.
