Old Beams in Milton Keynes

Easter lunch for myself, my wife and mother-in-law. Great service by Katie W who was just fantastic and really gets what top class service means. Food was good, but is pricey with lack of salad or even small amounts of garnish. Have started coming back to the Beams in the last 12 months as it has improved and drinks are not as expensive as the used to be (with the exception of wine). Still need to improve food consistency for the price.

Beautifully restored pub, the result of a fire many years ago, or so I'm told. But the best part of our, (myself, son and grandson), was the waitress service. Katie W has a bubbly personality that you can't help but like. Excellent job of looking after us with plenty of humour to suit our own personalities. Katie W, we will be back. Be prepared......

Just would like to say that the prawn and salmon fishcake was very disappointing. I would have said it was a potato cake. I had just 3 tiny prawns and couldn’t find any salmon in the ‘fish’ cake. Need to complain to your suppliers.

Lovely food, good range on the menu. We were served by Alicia who was very helpful and polite - she is an asset to the team. She helped with allergies, providing a high chair and was knowledgeable of the menu. She even offered some biscuits when I couldn’t have my chosen dessert due my allergy. How kind! What let this place down is the slow service as it became busy at around 6-7pm. No fault of Alicia’s but the pub needs to up their staff to keep up with the demand. You can tell it’s a popular place, understandably! We ordered dessert and requested that our coffee comes with the food, to which the coffee arrived soon after ordering and another waitress said the dessert was coming in a minute when it actually took another 20 minutes to arrive. Didn’t appreciate her attitude towards us and the false promises. Another lovely waitress fixed this for us however. Overall, lovely food, good atmosphere, mostly kind staff but let down by the slow service.

Really great food, had the shepherd's pie which was to die for and the beef was amazing too. Will definitely be back to try more. Katie the waitress was very friendly and provided great service.

I visited with my Son during a visit to Milton Keynes. The pub is beautiful, spacious and the staff are super. The menu is varied and interesting with something for everyone. We both ordered the rib eye steak, medium rare ,which was cooked to perfection, I have not had a steak as perfect as that for some time. We also ordered from the dessert menu, Apple and Rhubarb tart and Lemon Meringue stack, which were also delicious. The young lady serving us was very friendly, attentive and cheerful, nothing was too much trouble for her (didn't catch her name) . We will be returning soon without a doubt. Great experience , thank to all at the Old Beams.

I had a McMullen gift voucher to spend (long story short: I couldn't buy AK Mild after a gap of 30+ years). This was the closest McMullen pub to me serving AK Mild. The pub was clean, the staff were knowledgeable and helpful- and the beer was properly kept and tasted the same as I remembered from over 30 years ago.

This had to be the worst place I have ever been. Food was horrible and service was so so so bad that I had to stop here to inform all. We were given soup with hair, to which the response from the waitress was our chef is bold, it’s mostly your hair when it was clearly all the way in the bowl. Food plates was literally rushed on the table with zero smiles Did not take our drinks order until half way through our mains that too when we asked!! And did not clear our plates till the absolute end after we left the table even though we kept requesting. The table paid £200 for the food that was bland, hairy!!!, not cooked, cold bread!!! And the servers were outright racist, horrible and has zero hospitality!! Wish I had taken their names but this happened 13th Feb at 8:30 - 10:30 pm. This was for valentines plus a friends birthday to which they promised a birthday cake at the end which never came!!! So please please stay away!!

We visited on a Saturday evening for dinner. On arrival we were informed that due to a delayed delivery a significant number of dishes were unavailable. I have eaten here a few times in the past 2 months and each time the standard of the food has been disappointing. The service and venue are great but come on sort out the miserable menu and the quality of the food served!

Katie was an amazing host serving a choice of great ales/lagers and a really good menu which had us foxed for a bit but eventually went for the 4 for £26 plus sides.

We had a table for four on Christmas Eve and pre-ordered from the festive menu. The Pub and restaurant areas were packed with people also drinking outside. We could not find any disabled parking bays so went in to ask. We were told there were no disabled parking spaces. This needs correcting ASAP. We were seated promptly and our server was excellent throughout.Food service was also prompt which bearing in mind how busy it was was an achievement. The food was average particularly main courses which were a little dry . They may have been pre-prepared and kept warm, at least thats how they looked and tasted. Desserts were very good. We would return if disabled parking was provided.

Really good food and great service from Katie W who kept us informed regarding our food as there was a large party being catered for. Look forward to returning soon and hope to have her as our waitress.

We have been coming to this lovely pub for many years. Unfortunately the last three times have changed our views on our once 'local'. The chaps that stand at the end of the bar vaping has caused me to write this review. I have brought it to the manager's attention but unfortunately nothing has been done about it. Sitting having a quiet drink after work was spoilt this evening by the inconsiderate and disrespectful men who think it is ok to vape inside. I can't keep complaining to the management and to be honest I am extremely disappointed. This would never have happened when Scott and Tracey were in charge. Such a shame as I have always been a big supporter of The Old Beams. Not anymore !!!!!!! Would I go back, maybe in the summer when I can sit outside in the ' non smoking' part of the garden !!!!!! Shame on you !!!!!!

Had Christmas Lunch yesterday with work, which was nice. Have to say the waiter Zoe was Fantastic, she was really helpful and couldn't do enough for our group which was not small so she did a great job to keep us all happy :)

What an amazing meal we had, my wife and I 5ook our visiting Swedish family to the Old Beams for dinner on their arrival in Milton Keynes, 2 of us opted for ribeye steaks another 2 had fish n chips. Oh wow the steaks were perfect so delicious and well presented. The fish well, 2 huge fish on each plate were massive, again well presented and delicious. We often go to the Old Beams, but this meal was so wonderful and gave our Swedish guests a great food experience. Brilliant evening, thank you team Beam

Why don’t they sell their own brand of UPA. It’s a fabulous beer. For that reason alone I shall stick to Warbler on the Wharf! This place is nice, the staff are good. The menu is the same as most other McMullen pubs. So - I might as well drink where I get the drink I like best!

We visited this evening for a meal and was met by Courtney who was welcoming and explained the menu to us I had Panko Mozzarella starter and pressed pork from the Specials Menu It was lovely and we enjoyed the atmosphere in the Old Beams restaurant We will visit again and a big thank you to Courtney who was so helpful

Was welcomed at sat by the wonderful Lisa, made us aware of the specials they had on that evening & it was one of the best dishes I’ve ever had dining out before in my life, Matt the assistant manager recommended a cocktail as I simply couldn’t decide & it was the most refreshing delicious drink I’ve ever had, the service and the staff made the experience one I will never forget. Not great - chicken Milanese was inedible due to being over cooked so much it was charcoal. Kids pasta for £6.95 had 7 pieces of pasta, needless to say he was still hungry and he’s 6. The fish of the day had mouldy salad on the plate which meant when you eat it you can just taste mould. My husband had fish and chips which was lovely. But for £84 and only 1 dish was edible it’s really poor. Same menu as Warbler on the Wharf which has always been amazing compared to this. The chefs need further training and guidance

A great return visit to this friendly establishment. Taking advantage of the weather, we sat in their lovely garden for a few drinks and a bite to eat. We and our dog were well looked after, they even have a dog menu. Dogs are made welcome in the bar also, for those not so nice days. It’s good to know that we can all go together 🐾

We received the usual warm and friendly welcome from Scott, Courtney, Vlad, Valentina and the rest of The Beams team. Enjoyed our main courses & desserts followed by the Nearly Diamond tribute act. Great atmosphere. Everyone was having a good time. Fantastic cameo from Matt from behind the bar. Would highly recommend.

We have visited this restaurant man times and we were looking forward to trying the new winter menu. I was recommended the shoulder of lamb. Having been in hospitality over 40 years. The dish was very fatty this gave the gray leaving a fatty residue in mouth. Sorry but it was not good it will not deter me from coming again, we are all able to have an off day

Went for a lunch as seen reviews and thought it would be good. The pub, and outside area is beautiful. The young lady serving us was very hospitable and helpful. Food however was poor. Crab linguine, hunt the crab, luke warm. Husband chose cod loin. Unfortunately no cod, so opted for the chicken pie, asked for new potatoes, waitress wasn't sure they had some! So ended up with chips. A pie that looked whiter than the chicken as microwaved. Would return for a drink, not food.

We were on holiday and I waited too long to write this review, but I'm going to the effort now in September because this was really a very good experience. The food was so good that we tucked right in and forgot to take pictures of most of it. It was so good that we went back again before leaving the UK. I recall that we had a lovely salad, fish and chips, steak with mushroom gravy (Stilton), crab pasta and the most amazing value mini dessert (for those who really want pudding but can't fit in a normal serving) and coffee/tea. Trifle, toffee pudding and blueberry something? Each visit our server was both friendly and professional. Even the loos were charming. It's nice enough for a special occasion and comfortable enough for a casual lunch. It's surrounded by lovely greenery.

We held our 40th Anniversary party for family and friends on Sunday 27th August. We hired the private space with buffet. The service from Lisa was fantastic for the whole time. She dealt with everything from start to finish and made sure all ran smoothly for us. The buffet was excellent which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
