Okka Restaurant (Harpenden) in St Albans

First time here , brilliant service, really good food and wonderful ambiance! To be fair bit chic to be called a greasy spoon! This is definitely better than most greasy spoon restaurants/cafes ! I highly recommend this cafe/restaurant

Love this place, so much so that I come here three times a week for coffee. Breakfasts and food is impeccable. The highest quality, tastiest bacon and sausages from a local farm. Wonderful Turkish dishes too. Staff are the best too. Thanks Hassan, Phyllis, Hannah, Matt, Darcy.

Great little restaurant. Only had a coffee and full English. Both spot on. Loved that the sausage and bacon was grilled. Wife had eggs Benedict. Will go back to try different items.

Starters late, not together. Over priced soft drinks. Like soda and lime for 2 £6.40 2x coke bottles £6.50 . Starter, main and 2 drinks (non alcoholic) £35 A head .For a Cafe is very expensive 😕. Been twice unfortunately not again. Also put service charge not .

The staff lacks professionalism and proper management. Excuses such as "kitchen busy" are unacceptable. Improving customer communication and managing deliveries effectively should be a priority.

Fantastic food, beautiful tastes and flavours. Just nit-picking, tea should really be included with the breakfast, and although the 1 small Woburn sausage was lovely, it wasn't justified by the price. At least 2, or a large sausage pls. A few tweaks and it would have been 5 star, easily. Will definitely visit again still 👏 👏

Have been going here so often, it’s so delicious and service is so friendly. I recommend everything on the photos. The chips are to die for they are so crispy and succulent!

We sat and then left, as we felt other customers where priority when ordering due to the status of race.

Decent breakfast options but mains menu is lacking. Ordered a lamb shish which came out as a skewer of lamb on a bed of grilled tortilla and a side of rice. No sauce provided so was very dry but the lamb was tasty. At £18.45 for the dish I would expect at least some tzatziki or otherwise to come with and could be more generous with the meat portion as it was only 4 chunks of lamb. More options available for the breakfast and brunch menus which the restaurant clearly does better at. Service was a bit disappointing. Waiter pointed us to our table and didn't bring out enough water for the table when asked and was absent otherwise. Coffee was also fine but felt like decaf. The atmosphere was good, seems to be popular with locals at lunchtime. Overall an ok experience, but considering the price of dishes I would expect larger portions or accompaniments for the mains. Either improve the mains options or cut from the menu and focus on breakfast and brunch.

These guy asked for feedback and took it happily... All brilliant besides the lamb which was tasty but a bit dry. Everything else was amazing. The service was calm with genuine smiles, positivity and emotional intelligence . I'm a complainer and 100% recommend these guys. The Turkish house wine is excellent VFM. Order Sea Bass, Strawberry Pie topped with Custard plus an Irish coffee and spend the night in heaven!

Always good service, great menu, reasonsble prices I've returned to find slight remodelling but the same delicious menu for breakfast and brunch. All tastes catered for from full English to some Turkish dishes and a few veggie options. Staff was friendly and service was prompt. Good coffee and fresh OJ available. Do not take a table near the coffee machine. Okka is very popular with LOUD people and the coffee machine makes conversation impossible. Breakfast for 2 was £45 - a bit dear.

Visiting Harpenden and found this place by chance. I have to admit that their Burger is amazing. It's one of the very rare super delicious burger you can find in UK. Lovely staff, calm and relax atmosphere. if I'm again in Harpenden, definitely will visit for that Burger again

Lovely staff, very helpful young lady seating 7 of us Sunday morning just gone. Everyone's food looked great but too much sauce on my eggs Benedict for my liking. Would definitely go again to try other food

We were looking for somewhere to have lunch and came across Okka. Great find and excellent Aperol spritzer. We sat inside where the ambience was calm. Not sure that the music was a good fit for a Turkish restaurant.

Don't order via deliveroo! Oka take the order and then later cancel. This has happened to me several times. Oka, either come off deliveroo or honour orders you have accepted. I waited 25 mins for my brunch only to be told by deliveroo that its cancelled and I now have to wait 5-7 days for my money back. Not the way to treat your customers!

We had a nice brunch today. Nice atmosphere with lovely staff. The turkish songs playing in the background made my day way much better 👍 It has been a while I haven't listened Ezginin Günlüğü and MFO songs. So thanks for that. Menemen is a bit different than traditional Turkish Menemen. They put mint and spring onion in it which changes the original taste a little bit. And they didn't mix the egg with the ingredients. It's more like a shakshuka with poached eggs. it was tasty tough. Will definitely come back for dinner and other menu items.

Service was fine, atmosphere was fine, food and price weren't. Sandwich using stale supermarket sliced bread, focaccia burger wasn't focaccia whatsoever, dry burger on a bread roll... For £17 bacon and cheese not included, pay extra. Frozen chips slightly raw. Won't be coming back

Amazing restaurant the food is delicious. My son wanted to have brunch and we had the Full Monty from Oka. It was really tasty. Well cooked, staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is great! Thanks Oka :-)

Lovely local restaurant with super friendly team.

Used to be brilliant. Unfortunately since it was take over last year the service is now really bad. Long waits for food, wrong items being served amd a general lack of interest in providing service by the waiting staff or the maitre'd. Sadly, no longer a local gem.

Breakfast here sitting outside with their usual friendly welcome. You can be sure of setting yourself up for the day with lovely choices whether it's a full breakfast or something lighter like avocado, poached eggs it's your choice. We visit regularly.

Really good food at good prices.

Lovely place on the High Street. Was treated to a birthday brunch here 🎊 The service was good the staff are attentitive to your needs giving you enough space to relax & order no rush. The place is kept very clean from my observation... as soon as a table emptied the spray bottle & cloth were out for cleaning! 👌🏼 The breakfast was freshly prepared to a good standard and presentation... I noted they do a lunch & dinner menu which is Mediterranean 😋 so I will definitely be back to try lunch & dinner one day... there is also a small outside eating area at the front 👏🏼 Before I forget the prices are reasonable you won't be out of pocket!

DECEPTIVE SIGNAGE. I came here for breakfast having seen the BIG SHOUTY 15% DISCOUNT sign outside. In small text beneath, it says it applies only between 0800 and 1000. Fine, that works. Only when sat inside do I notice in *even smaller print* that this discount applies only Tues-Thurs. So WHY, I ask, is this sign on display on a Saturday morning if not to lure in customers under false pretences? I raised this politely with staff but was naturally denied the discount. Nice breakfast, if a little pricey (even for Harpenden). However, no plans to return due in part to the above dishonest signage issue.

Underwhelming to say the least. Food was ok at best; lacking flavour and even basic seasoning. We ordered musaka (bland and lacking the ingredients described in the menu), half chicken (dry and over cooked), zucchini fritters (oily and rather tasteless) among other easily forgotten dishes. The service was friendly enough but the waiter didn’t really know what to do with our honest feedback so that was a little disappointing. Will not go back

Very low on staff so had to wait a long time for food. We was given a free hot drink and manager apologiesd . When food finally came it was very nice and reasonably priced

I stopped at this place by chance and I liked it. Food and cappuccino were good, waiters were kind and I got a discount too for having breakfast during weekdays. Would come back again

Food was good and ingredients fresh and tasty. Portions were filling and what we tasted generally felt very authentic (a rarity around the town of Harpenden, where it's hard to find eateries sticking to their avowed tradition, unadulterated by tweaks to suit the locals' palate). The only thing that slightly marred the experience was the very slow service. I'm usually not fussed by waiting a little and wouldn't comment on it had it not been an exceptionally long wait. Having languished at our table for nearly an hour after placing our orders, the waitress eventually took notice and came out; she informed us that an "issue with their machine" was causing the delay, but reassured us that the food was now on its way, and that to make up for the inconvenience we would get a 10% discount. We thought this was not very timely given we had been sitting around already for so long, but again were quite easygoing about it; however, our wait was far from over and it took another 20 minutes or so to finally get served. Perhaps a slightly bigger discount than 10% would have been in order at this point. So all in all, I would return as I enjoyed their food and it is as genuine as local options get around here, and having looked around at other tables I do believe this was an isolated incident as others seemed to be served quickly. It's just that a tad more attentiveness in our experience would easily have garnered this place one if not 2 extra stars. I look forward to a better one next time around.

Had bubble and squeak and didnt like it, sausage wasnt nice and toast came with no butter. Expensive for breakfast. Personal taste, i hear good things mainly.

Visited this lovely cafe for the first time today. Cozy, nice pictures on the wall and incredibly helpful, friendly staff. The food arrived quickly and it tasted great. Lots and lots of options for different breakfasts to cater for everyone. I will definitely be visiting this gem again.

Had been to Okka a few times before during the day but this was our first evening meal there. I cannot fault it. It was very friendly, and the food was wonderful - fresh, quality ingredients prepared really well.

It's good to enjoy a different kind of breakfast there. Had Pesha Menehen this morning love it. It's so delicious! They also do vegetarian food there. Highly recommended!

I have been there before too much rushing around, over crowded, food very poor.

I had a cooked breakfast , it was served hot plenty of it and it was quality produce. Very pleased I will return. One word of caution it does get busy so you may have to wait , on a Saturday anyway.

Despite having a sign outside stating brunch was served until 5pm, and being told by the waitress we could order off the brunch menu we were told that brunch finished at 3, when we pointed at the sign, we were told that " oh that, that's been there for years" we paid for our drinks and left, very unhelpful manager.
