Don't sell crab claws after 2000 which was the only reason I came, so ordered fish and chips and arriving in less than 5 mins 😅 over cooked and dry id of sooner went to the chipper shop. I'd recommend going somewhere else. I wouldn't recommend eating here lol better to go across the road.

I have visited O'Connors for years, over a decade and unfortunately nostalgia couldn't cover this visit. As per usual, it's a popular spot, and getting a table isn't easy, it always had a reputation. However the menus hadn't changed since the early days, I overlooked it. We ordered 4 mains and a few sides, two of the mains were delivered first, the 3rd 3-4 mins later, my mains 10 mins after everyone else. Having a staggered dining experience isn't what anyone wants. Sadly the Seafood Chowder didn't hit the spot pile before, the sauce was few and far between, and the fish bland. Next the Fish Pie was bland, it's composition gelatinous/gloopy in texture, and the champ served to accompany, it's scallions we're dirty. Sure we could say it was freshly made, but they had soil on them, that's not good. The sides are served in a tin serving cup, it doesn't take long for moisture to build up, the fries became soggy and loose texture, effectively sitting in their own grease and very unpleasant. I advised the staff off this as feedback and was informed 'yeah that can happen'. A simple fix would be to use a plate. At the back of the Pub there is a large outdoor seating area/smoking area, when the traffic to and from is frequent the smell wafting in is very unpleasant for non smokers, mainly at the back of the bar, the extension. Sadly overall a less than enjoyable experience and is has killed what used to be a spot to look forward to visiting.

We came in on a Sunday evening. I had mozzarella dippers for starter and cheese and veggie cakes with chips for main. Mrs D had chichen and bacon pie. Drinks were a couple of pints of Guinness and two bottles of Heineken The food was decent pub food, and we both enjoyed what we ordered. The bill was £49, which is excellent value. The let down was the service. Lots of staff, all wearing headphones and presumably getting instructions over them, but not sure if there was any system to ensure customers were looked after. And afraid to say that they weren't particularly pleasant, never mind friendly. I expect more in Ballycastle and generally the people are lovely. Having said that - the big lad with glasses and dark sorry if curly hair seemed to be working hard, as was one of the youngest looking waitresses. It's a nice bar ace the food was fine. Could be really good if the staff take a minute and give you the time of day.

We visit Ballycastle on a regular basis (usually around every six weeks) and we would also go to O’Connors two or three times a week whenever we are there. However, our last visit wasn’t the first time that we were left underwhelmed by the specials on offer. My partner asked for the fish and chips and asked if the chips could be garlic chunky chips instead of normal chips but when it arrived the order was wrong. I ordered the peppered cod goujons which was supposed to come with a lemon and caper sauce and a side of my choice. When the dish arrived, it was no more than six fish fingers and a little lit of salad on the side ( for 16 pounds!!). When I asked the waitress where the lemon and caper sauce was she came back with plain mayonnaise in a dish! We were in Ballycastle all week and didn’t return- which is very unusual for us. Also, the Guinness was not up usual standard. We will unfortunately will have to give O Connors a miss until the food improves. Such a shame, as our whole family love this pub but the quality of food has been declining in the past couple of years since it was taken over from Cormac.

Had to ask to order our food after waiting for almost 45 minutes. Had to ask for our table to be cleared after we finished. Asked for desert menu and again had to go and find a member of staff to take our order. Every time we ordered a drink the staff didn't even think to lift the empty classes from the table. It wasn't like they were short staffed, it looked like the were actually completely overstaffed and they all just hung about over the high chairs at the bar like they were on a night out. All I can say is avoid or prepare yourself for disappointment.

We went into this pub for something to eat. We sat for ages. Granted it was busy. However most people were leaving. Two female staff, suitably dressed, cleared other tables. The young male employees, inappropriately dressed in shorts (is this place a male version of Hooters in America) were wandering around the pub doing nothing, one had a mobile phone in his hand, another one was standing outside the front door smoking as we came in. Eventually a female server with headphones on came to clear the table. We asked for a menu, but of course how could she hear us!!! I observed other people at the front of the pub near the front door were being served whilst we sat like lemons for 20 odd minutes. Interestingly these customers were wearing GAA tops. The waiter eventually came to us but I said we would be leaving and going elsewhere. You can keep your O'Connors ". i.e" NOT for me experience!!!!!!! Truly woeful. Strange became Ballycastle is in County Antrim, NORTHERN Ireland, that's the United Kingdom of Great Britain and NORTHERN Ireland so your website should be "O'Connors.UK" NOT "ie". O'Connors is severely lacking in British customer service, British customer care, British manners and British etiquette! Young disinterested "waiting staff" and ALL the males inappropriately dressed wearing tight shorts, with one male scratching his nether regions. We had a lucky escape and left! Will NEVER, EVER, EVER SET FOOT IN THIS PLACE EVER AGAIN 😡👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

Coming from the Deep South in the United States, I’m used to eating simple food with simple ingredients, that is cooked well and tastes great. We call it comfort food because it is cooked with love and care. So when eating at establishments that offer simple food, I have high expectations. Most try to make it fancy and exotic, when all they are really doing is ruining it. So with that in mind, I never was hoping for some good hearty bar food. I got was something else entirely. O’Connor’s not only cooks simple food, they do it exceptionally well. I had the pan fried chicken with champ, I think champ was the REAL mashed potatoes with fresh green onions. Sorry if I got that wrong y’all. The greens onions didn’t overpower the potatoes, they just added to the flavor. I am a mashed potatoes snob and they passed my test with flying colors. The chicken breast was fork tender and moist. A hearty gravy was the perfect compliment to both the chicken and the potatoes. Fried onions came on the side. The onions were shaved paper thin, then battered and fried to perfection. The batter gave them hint of savory and the onion was the sweet. Oh and a side salad with fresh green, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions and a homemade dressing rounded out the meal. We never figured out what was in the dressing but it was very tasty. I need to mention the portions. They were big, big enough for two. I could not finish it. I tried really hard. I hate to leave a good potato behind, but the staff and my companions would have had to cart me back to the tour bus. This leg of my trip, was my chance to touch base with my Irish ancestors so to speak. I carry about 30% of Irish DNA in me from my father’s side. I’ve always wanted to come to Ireland. My people immigrated during the potato famine. According to what we have found through research, they sailed from Louth. I expected to be wowed by the beauty of the Irish countryside, that I had only read about and seen through pictures, and I was. I expected the Irish people to be friendly and they were. I was not expecting the best meal of my trip to be take place in a little local bar in Ballycastle, Northern Ireland, but it was. So if you love simple food, made fresh, go to O’Connor’s in Ballycastle. They do it really, really well. Simple food done really well. Shout out to Mary, our tour guide, for recommending O’Connor’s.

We have been in Ireland for the past 6 weeks and have excellent experience drinking and eating in the pubs. After checking the rating for O’Connor’s(4.5) we decided that this was where we were going to eat that evening. We walked in, the bartender asked if we planned on having food, we said yes and he told us to sit wherever we wanted. We waited 10 minutes and no one came to our table. I went to the bar to ask for menus and the server asked where we were sitting. She came over to our table gave us menus, cleaned off the table (wiping all the crumbs on the floor) and left. Another 10 minutes went by, and still no service. A group of people came in and sat behind us. The server immediately brought them menus and took their drink order. At that point we decided to leave. We waited over 20 minutes for nothing. Oconnors should not have staff that treat their customers like this. This was the only establishment in all of Ireland that treated my wife and I with such disrespect. The 4.5 rating is not deserved.

None came to check on our meals so unfortunately when they came to clear the plates and asked how the meal was it was a bit late. I had hardly eaten my Cajun salmon as it was over cooked (the salmon) and dry (the noodles and the salmon). I’m fairness the waiter asked if I wanted a free drink or desert but with half a bottle of wine still to drink and not being one for sweet things it wasn’t really making up for the meal. They said sorry when we went to pay but we paid the full bill. Just annoying when the bar prides itself on local seafood. Either offer a discount or just cook the food properly. More food /drinks doesn’t really cut it.

My wife and I have just eaten dinner here. First, the good...the staff were pleasant, and the pub was busy. We were hopeful that it was a sign of good things to come, but alas, no.... That's all the good. Now the bad bit. It was one of the worst meals ever served up in a restaurant/bar that we have eaten at. Mountains of mashed potato covering a large plate (was supposed to be champ), 4 sausages on top, what looked like packet gravy, and 2 bits of lettuce seemingly constituting a salad made up an very disappointing Irish classic. My wife had this the day before at the Carrick-a-Rede bar in Ballantoye where she loved it. Tonight, it was a shocker. My salmon was over-cooked, and the thai noodle bed it came on was supposed to be with Asian vegetables and was basically some capsicum and onion in a creamy sauce. No semblance of any asian herbs. Seriously, the meals I had at boarding school 30 years ago were better than that. I would not even serve that rubbish up to my grand-mother. When we told one of the staff, they disappeared. We waited 5 minutes for someone to come by to explain what was wrong with the meals, but no-one came. When I complained at the bar when paying, the answer was "really?" as if it total disbelief, and then did nothing to alleviate the situation. No semblance of a "terribly sorrow" or a "let me see what I can do" re the bill, or "I'll get the manager"....Simply nothing. They just charged us 30 quid for 2 very bad plates of food and that was that. The 6 ladies on the table next to us had stunned looks on their faces when the food came out. I know why now. I'm no chef, but a nice piece of oven baked salmon next to a mix of arulua, tomatoes, kalamata olives, some red onion and cucumber, with some sprinkled feta, a little bit of red wine vinegar and a light drizzle of olive oil is all that is needed. Add in some warm sour dough from Ursa Minor (the bakery down the road) with some dipping olive oil and I don't mind paying 16 quid for that. For my wifes meal, downsize it by half, get the champ right, get some quality gourmet sausages, and do a decent salad, and then you've got value for money at 13 quid. As it stands, it's a total rip-off. There's just too much stuff on the menu that is neither healthy for people or even tasty. It seems that the concept is volume is a good substitute for quality. Wrong.... Be warned: Do not eat hear...go to the co-op around the corner, grab some eggs and amke yourself an omelette at home. If you don't know how to do this, look up Jamie Oliver and watch a video on how to do it. You'll save yourself 20 quid and have a far tastier meal.

They were busy but we were able to order drinks and wait in the bar. The service was very good and friendly. We were informed that we had to wait, which wasn't very long at all, but we appreciated being told. The food was excellent, very generous portions and excellently prepared. I had the fish and it was perfectly cooked. We couldn't fault them and would happily go back.

Probably the best food in Ballycastle. I ve eaten every where in the town but return here regularly. Superb service and great food from an excellent kitchen. Highly recommend. Always busy . Nice to have a beer whilst waiting. Usually fairly quickly called to table by excellent staff.

Our server was inattentive all evening but the worst was that she told me we could get a side dish not listed on the menu. We were then charged £11 euros for a salad that we understood would be included in the price of the main. Manager was inflexible.

Although Caesar salad was not offered on the menu as a side to accompany main course, I asked our server if it would be possible. She said yes. But we were charged £11 for the salad and the manager said he had no choice but to bill us for it. Disappointed with the service in general but very upset about what was an expensive mistake caused by a server's misinformation.

Very welcoming staff and the best seafood chowder we’ve had. Plenty of fish (including prawns), large portions and beautiful wheaten bread on the side. Also, the butter was soft…what a difference that can make to your bread! Fantastic!

As usual, tonight's food and service was great. On arrival we were next in queue for a table which was ready by the time we had decided what to have to drink. Service was very efficient and friendly, Colleen looked after us brilliantly as usual....

Coffee shop it is not . It is more like a greasy spoon cafe. Seems to exist mainly for all day brunches and not coffee and cake. Choice of cake in the ‘ coffee shop’ limited unlike in the bakery downstairs. Loos clean but tables were not . Staff friendly enough but lack of menu information letting them down. Some menu boards above serving area seem to be covered by bin bags . Vibes of a seventies cafe . Sad .
